We came on a Saturday night around 9 and there is a lot of seating and TV's around the whole restaurant. Once you are ready to order, you go to the bar to place your order. We got the BBQ chicken & Italiano pizza, they were both served hot and delicious! The pesto on the italiano was very good, and the bbq chicken was flavor packed. I've never been a huge fan of any Zorbaz restaurant (typically 2 Stars at best) but this experience went really well. We sat at the bar (unusual for me) and the bartender (appeared to be a newer employee) was friendly and attentive and created/served a great Bloody Mary. My Zorbas Chicken Bowl (see photo) arrived quickly and looked good. The ingredients appeared fresh and the salad was a perfect (warm) temp. This was, by far, the best experience I've had at this chain and hopefully, it will continue on my next visit. Fingers crossed! read more

Zorbaz is a very popular tourist destination in the Grand Rapids area. This must be driven by the objectively beautiful beachfront and welcoming staff. However, the food is a big letdown - serviceable at best. And, perhaps that's the point - you head up north during the summer months for having fun with friends and family. Second time visiting a Zorbaz, both within a week. This visit was a bit before noon on Saturday. Place only seemed to have a few other tables occupied, not sure if their busy time is lunch, happy hour, 9r dinner. Visit last week at another location we tried pizza so this time we tried the Mexican. We ordered: chips, salsa, and guacamole - chips were alright, salsa wasn't very spicy, and guacamole was ok but nothing great. Colorado connection burrito - ordered as hoped it would be spicy as have had good Colorado Chili in the past unfortunately the spice wasn't there. Chicken and rice burrito - overall the burrito was ok but the chicken just didn't have the flavor I would hope for in a good burrito and is a mix of white and dark meat. We went to have a couple of pizzas late on Monday, only to be welcomed by very offensive music, f word, n word, degrading women and just awful racism. After going up to the bar (no table service) for drinks, 2 taps on special $4 and a vodka red bull the total was $16 (way overpriced) then going up again to order food (no table service) only to be ignored after the bartender acknowledged I was standing waiting to order food, after 2 females that walked into the bar, obviously they were regulars. Then found out the pizza dough machine was not working so we decided to leave. After telling the bartender that the music was very offensive one of the regular females decided to get in my face about it, calling me names and telling me I don't belong there. Meanwhile all this time the bartender and other staff just stood there and let her swear and call me names. I will never step foot in there again. On my first outing around Lake Pokegama we drove or boat up to Zorbaz for lunch. The food was a little pricey but this isn't your average pizza joint, and demand was high (they were swarming with lake lovers) so I'm sure they'd stay busy regardless of what they charged. We had two pizzas and a round of margaritas. We tried the BBQ Chicken and a half taco, half Thai pizza. Both were really good with the BBQ chicken being the fav. I loved all the fresh toppings and hope they piled it really high with garnishes. Zorbaz is one of the only surf bar experiences available in Grand Rapids, and sorry one at that. The only thing going for this place is location, which I cannot deny is a pleasant way to spend time on the lake. Aside from that, this place is like a Midwest amusement park... Overpriced and Underwhelming. I've only ever the 420 burrito, which I've ordered on three separate occasions. At first I was satisfied with my purchase, but the sobriety of my other two visits told me otherwise. Portions got smaller and over all quality got lazier than a teenager working their last shift of their summer job at the movie theater. Buying a dozen packs of cigarettes and disposing of them to curb addition would be more productive then the 20$ some that I've spend here. However, I will be returning tomorrow for another burrito. read more

Came here for lunch it was pretty dead. Played a few of the arcade games while waiting for another party. Place was clean. My husband and I sat at the bar for lunch. I ordered the spaghetti while my husband ordered the toms special under the Mexican food. I wasn't too impressed with my meal. Tasted like cafeteria food. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his meal. The service isn't anything to brag about. The server didn't pay much attention to us. My glass was empty multiple times, I had to call the bartender over after waiting about 20 minutes for a refill. Visiting the area and came with a large group, several kids. Didn't really like the food and was confused on how service works here. We order our food at the bar then servers come out to deliver it but they dot get our refills or anything. Menus were sticky and floors were dirty. I've been coming here for a of couple years and it never disappoints! It takes a minute to adjust to reading the menu (every "s" is replaced with a "z"), but once you get it, it adds to the fun! I love the outdoor dining and spending time on the beach. I've been there to see sand volleyball tournaments and the energy was great! My 4 year old loves their food and exploring the water. We usually get pizzas and they don't go to waste. I appreciate the restaurant's steps towards being environmentally friendly by lessening the use of plastic lids and straws. read more

Zorbaz is an obnoxious conglomeration of drunks. The food is not good, the bartenders are slow, and the smell of stale alcohol permeates throughout the building. If you're a 20-something looking for a good time, then it's perfect. For the rest of us, especially those with kids, I'd suggest staying far away. read more

On my various travels through northern Minnesota I have historically tried to avoid ending up in Grand Rapids for the night. Nothing against the town, but I had never really found any place to eat that I really enjoyed. Restaurant options in Grand Rapids always seemed to be predominantly fast food chains. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with hitting up a Subway for lunch as you're making your way across the North Woods, but I personally enjoy finding some local flavor once I'm done working for the day, and Grand Rapids never quite did it for me. However, I've recently started to change my mind on this town, because the last several times I've been in Grand Rapids I've made the trip out of town to Zorbaz. It took me a while to find this place the first time. It was a month or so back, and I had spent the better part of a rainy late afternoon wet and miserable. I was staying in Grand Rapids that night and would be meeting up with a client the next morning. I was coming into town from the west on US 2 and happened to see a billboard advertising Zorbas - I'll admit it caught my eye due to the bottle of Grain Belt, which sounded real good at that point in the day. I didn't catch all the details as I blew past, but I was determined to go there for dinner that night. After checking into my hotel, I drove back up to US 2 and drove back and forth through town with no luck. Finally I drove back to the billboard and saw that Zorbaz was a few miles south of town on Pokegama Lake. That explains why I had never happened upon the place before. Once I knew where I was going, it was certainly easy enough to find. On my inaugural visit I made my way in through the light rain, and helpfully there's a large sign on the door explaining the ordering process. Basically, you can sit at the bar or at any of the tables, and you place your order at the bar. I found a barstool at the end of one side of the bar and sat down. The tap selection is quite large, and I was happy to see New Belgium Fat Tire on tap (just recently introduced to WI). I received a curiously-folded menu and perused my options. Zorbaz is, interestingly enough, a pizza and Mexican joint. Having always gone solo I have never gone with the pizza, just the Mexican options. The menu, as with everything associated with this place, replaces all "S's" with "Z's" - salsa becomes zalza, and this leads to just a bit of reading comprehension issues. The bartender helped me out with a recommendation for the Colorado Connection burrito, which was a large chicken burrito with an excellent verde salsa topping. On subsequent visits I've tried the enchiladas and the taco dinner, in keeping with the standard burrito-taco-enchilada triptych of the Tex-Mex restaurant. The bartenders have always been quick and attentive, placing my orders and refilling my glass right on time. The place is well-lit, and there's a number of TVs above the bar, always tuned to various baseball games on my visits (sadly not the Cubs, usually the Twins and other assorted ESPN national games). According to the menu there are multiple Zorbaz throughout northern Minnesota, all along lakes. Coming across the river I did see piers for boats to tie up below Zorbaz, and I bet that would make for an excellent stop after a day on the lake. The food has always been decent. The burritos and enchiladas are fairly heavy, and while the verde on the Colorado burrito was interesting, I thought the spicing of the chicken in the enchiladas was a bit off. There isn't much for lighter options aside from quesadillas off the appetizer menu. There are a series of proprietary hot sauces that are served with the meals, and I found these to accompany the enchiladas well. The Triple-Z hot sauce was surprisingly well balanced, with nice flavor and a real kick. Prices are probably on the high side compared with a standard Mexican restaurant, but the prices for New Belgium were not too high at all, balancing it all out in the end. I definitely enjoy stopping here when I'm in Grand Rapids, and I can see this as being a really fun place to spend a night. read more

I LOVE Zorbaz. It iz ze bezt. It's a really fun atmosphere with many activities, including pool, Big Buck Hunter, volleyball and the lake. My huzband (I can't help myzelf) and I spent a lovely afternoon on their deck, looking over the lake, eating the gigantic pile of delicious chicken nachoz and sipping our cocktails. Food is just ok, for the prices I expected more. The portions are big enough. No kids menu so you spend 12.00 for them to eat very little of the meal. A group of 6 and each meal was brought out separately with several minutes in between, so long that you can't wait for the others to receive their because yours will be cold. You order everything at the bar, get your own drinks, utensils, plates, napkins. Why am I paying 12.00 for two tacos? The only reason I gave two stars is because the atmosphere is cool. I don't give out many 5 star reviews however this place really impressed me. The atmosphere was awesome! The service was really great. The beach area looked amazing, and the food was really good! My coworker and I ordered a burrito, a pizza, and some nachos. The Nachos were very good! The burrito, while not being authentic, was tasty. The pizza was also very good. The bar looked stocked however I did not order any drinks. There is no question in my mind that if I am back up in Grand Rapids again I will be coming back here. They have won me over. We haven't eaten here yet, but yesterday we played Sand volleyball and it was a blast!!! It's a really cool atmosphere. They have a cool bar down by the courts and plenty of seating! I'm only an infrequent visitor to Zorbaz on Lake Pokegama, and that's because I live 2,000 miles away in San Diego. But Zorbaz is always fun to visit. The food is pretty good. The only reason I'm giving 1 star is because I love their chicken nachos. Other than that the food is terrible, service just as terrible, drinks overpriced and barely any liquor. The first time we went, we sat down and were not aware you had to order at the bar. Very inconvenient when you come in with a family of 8. We sat there for 20 min before finally being able to stop and ask a waitress if someone was going to take our order. After being told we had to order at the bar I had to find something to write on and proceed to the bar to give her our family of 8's order. Appetizers came out with the meal (chips and guac) they forgot my daughters pizza, my burrito was cold in the middle. No one offered to fix anything after complaining twice. No one cleaned our table off, had to again go to the bar for the bill. There's a place for a tip....for what? You do everything yourself besides carry your food out. Tons of workers standing around chit chatting with each other always. I've been a few more times and it's the same thing over and over. This past summer a group of us had arrived and walked down to the beach bar. My brother was standing next to an intoxicated man (not in our group) and when my brother reached the counter he was cut off before even having one drink...at all! The owner has a Colorado connection I believe Tthe green chile is listed on the menu as Colorado Green Chile and I wouldn't argue with that. When I vacation in N Minn in July (mosquitos aside,it's often a bit of true Paradise in July) I used to Jones for some green chile back in CO. No longer,perhaps the first and only good green chile North of Minneapolis,at least that I'm aware of. This is primarily a large pizza joint that was a series of upscale places in the past. Now it's more of a friendly,inventive bar and still has a great lake view and easy lake access for those boating on this very pretty lake .(One of about 1,100 lakes in this county!) read more

We had a couple of decent beers and then unfortunately we ordered the California Cheeseburger Pizza. Beware Vegans, there is a hint of meat on this pizza. I would say the pizza was simply awful.
