Excellent place for a family event. Our ten-strong family did the Prison Break room a couple of weeks ago. We booked a 4 pm slot on a Sunday afternoon (it cost $300) and were the only ones there, besides our host, a laid-back, helpful young gentleman. The room was a bit claustrophobic at first with the ten of us crammed into a tiny "Jail Cell" - we had an hour to "escape" before the warden returned, and I had to will myself to not stare at the clock counting down the seconds, like in the TV show "24." Fortunately, this wasn't our first rodeo, and remembering epic failures from escape room misadventures in the past, everyone just got to it - communicating loudly, solving puzzles and deciphering clues, which allowed us to unlock more puzzles and clues, which in turn led to codes and keys which opened fiddly little locks. Everyone got involved and contributed, from the youngest (8-year old) to the oldest (80-year old) in our multi-generational family. We had a blast, moving from room to room, asking for answers from our host when we were stumped, and making steady progress till we were free - with almost ten minutes to spare. We were all smiles when taking the obligatory post-escape room photo. The Toy Box escape room beckons. We will be back! read more

One thing about escape rooms, is that getting to them will always be hard to find LOL its like the escape room starts there! Stumbled upon this escape room just looking through Yelp and wanted to have some fun with friends! We have done a good amount of escape rooms in the past so I guess I have sort of standard when it comes to my reviews. I look at the staff, decor, room puzzles and overall experience. 1. Staff The staff was so amazing and fun! We came in very loud and excited and they definitely matched the energy. Everyone was greeting us with a smile and eager to explain to us the rooms. They were very thorough with the explanation and definitely tried to make it as immersive as possible. Super nice people!!! 2. Decor We did Toybox and Prison and both rooms had really amazing, immersive decor! It was something out of a movie. Once you enter the rooms, you definitely feel immersed and part of your role due to the amazing design and decor! 10/10 on the design for sure! I can tell not one single bit of effort went to waste when planning the designs of these rooms! 3. Room puzzles Cant say much here without giving away spoilers for the rooms, but I would say overall the puzzles were really engaging and tricky enough to make you sit there and think. You know when there's those puzzles that you spend too much time on and next thing you know a chunk of your time is gone? Yeah, one of the rooms definitely had that LOL Toybox has more interactive puzzles while Prison had more technical/thinking puzzles. Thats something to take account of when you're choosing what room fits your preference! 4. Overall experience Loved the overall experience! My group escaped both rooms with about 20 mins to spare in each. I definitely would recommend this for first time escape room-ers because theyre just super fun!! :) read more

As I said in my previous review, I was going to come back to finish off the last room, Prison Break. I have to say, it was a much better, more enjoyable experience this time around. We had a different gamemaster and this person was on top of the clues, and explained the puzzles or areas we missed nicely. I'm not sure why, but I kinda like Prison Break more than Toybox. Toybox has the better room design, but Prison Break had a better flow or use of room? Not exactly sure how to express it into words, but I give a slight edge to Prison Break. I'm glad we came back to Zscapes again, and I can't wait for their next room! read more

We are a group of beginner escape artists that have done 0-4 escape rooms between all 4 of us. We did the Toybox Escape Room and were slightly intimidated by the posted difficulty level. However, we had a wonderful experience overall. Our room had puzzles that interactive, but also required some skills... our group is comprised of avid board gamers and we thoroughly enjoyed the various mentions and implementation of different classic board game elements & mechanics! We completed the puzzle with time to spare and felt quite accomplished with minimal game breaking hints. Also our game master Mako was very kind, helpful and attentive. We had a seamless experience of hosting a party of 8 kids for a birthday. Making a reservation was easy, the location is a little hard to find but once in there, it works out well. The kids really enjoyed it and were able to crack the solution and escape just in time a their time ran out (they did get a little help from the people who run the place). We booked a room on a Friday at 642 pm. for a game at 8pm. The hours of operation say they're open until 10pm. We show up and find out there's no one here? What happened? Nobody home? I sure hope we can get our money back. Very dissapointing. :( read more

I've been to Zscape three separate times the past few years and have always had a great time. I recommend booking a private room to avoid spending your booking making small talk with randoms. For COVID safety purposes, masks are required and hand sanitizer is distributed throughout the building. I love that their game masters are genuinely invested in the puzzles and teams they guide-- always hyped us up and gave helpful clues when needed. Before entering the escape room, you: sign a waiver, have the option to set aside your personal items in their lockers (small, not large enough for a standard backpack), and receive a thorough breakdown of the storyline behind your room's theme. Their puzzles are nonlinear and have decent variety. To avoid giving too much away-- you'll definitely go beyond the basic lock-and-key solutions to "escape". The VR room we tried (Mad Mind) was more linear but still creative. If you have any level of motion sickness, be prepared to get WILD vertigo at the 20 minute mark and every 5 mins afterwards LOL. My group had to remove our headsets every so often to recuperate. Some glitches made my partner's VR character fly offscreen at least 6 separate times... Not too immersive. But overall, still a unique experience that's worth trying. Note: their rooms are very clearly well-loved... From worn-out gadgets to rips in their wall decor. Definitely takes you out of the experience to some extent when the game master has to intervene and tell you that the holes in the wall aren't related to the game; they're actually from the previous guest who thought punching holes in the wall was the the answer to another puzzle LOL. They could definitely use a little repair and TLC to get this place back to 100%. Second note: FYI: Zscape is up a flight of stairs with no elevator available. We were able to get up just fine, but the staff were kind enough to offer a refund or reschedule if we needed to. Over the phone they were extremely apologetic and understanding-- we really appreciated the gesture. read more

6/5 The reason for this poor rating is because the people of this business told us is to come at 5:45, on the dot so that we could start the game at 6:00 sharp. However, when we got there at 5:45 the doors were closed, the lights were turned off, and no one was there to accommodate us. After serval knocks in the door, we called the place and they said that they will be right with us, except they weren't right there. We as a family run a very tight schedule going from soccer practice to swim practice, we just wanted to take one hour of their busy schedules so that we could all spend time together as a family. The girls were very disappointed as was I because we were all looking to take a busy break from our busy lives, and spend some quality family time, but unfortunately we did not get that chance. This is the second time coming to this location. The first time we did the Toy Box room and struggled to obtain some of the clues as many were black light activated. The letters, numbers and symbols had been re-written a few times, so they were near impossible to read, requiring more and more hints. The rules are simple, if it moves easily, it's likely a part of the puzzle. The problem was that there many broken components of the game, we couldn't tell if they were parts of the puzzle or not, causing time delays. We were told kids come through and treat the room with disrespect and there is simply no time to reconstruct broken items in the room. Ok, can't fault the staff I suppose. Because there are only so many escape rooms in the area, we wound up going back another time for the Prison Escape room. This time around, the amount of broken items in the room was very frustrating. There were three "rooms" that we had to get though and EACH room had broken items. One spinning component literally fell off in my hands. We did solve to get out but after several hints. Broken pipes, chairs, puzzle pieces. When we asked about this, we got the EXACT same answer. Crappy kids, no time. Maybe add an hour to someone's shift to repair these rooms. One hour, some duct tape and industrial glue and good as new. If the mirror is something interactive, maybe put a priority on fixing that since it's in shards. read more

I don't enjoy giving negative reviews but I feel others should be warned. This was genuinely the worst escape room I have ever done. It was dusty, there were mechanical failures, and one of the number combinations for a lock in the second room was completely random. At one point the game master came in and shoved a door open after we had solved a puzzle and nothing was happening for about 10 minutes (we were not given this time back). Toward the end of our time I had completely given up. It felt pointless to try given how poorly designed/maintained this room was. Plus one star for the robot. Parking was easy. read more

Came by to try both of their rooms. We did the prison escape first then toy box next. Personally, I enjoy the prisoner escape room better as it was more immersive and made sense. With just two people we were able to escape with about a minute left to go, and it was quite fun. The toybox room had many puzzles, and for a group of three was a bit difficult. I recommend at least four people for this room. Unfortunately, for the toybox room, we were unable to escape in time. It was fun and if you've never done, I'm skipping for give it a try. read more

It was my first time doing an escape room and I had such a blast. I honestly had no idea what I was in for since I have only heard stories from other people about these escape rooms. I had so much fun that I'd gladly come back to try one of their other rooms. Check in was quick and easy. It's very clean and tidy inside with some seating. Had to wait about 10-15 mins to wait for the other group to finish their session, but that wasn't a big deal. There are puzzles and games you can play while you're waiting your turn. Once in the room, our guide gave us a briefing of what an escape room is, the rules, what we have to do, etc. She was very informative and answered whatever questions our group had, but overall fairly simple rules to follow. I ended up losing track of time with how consumed I was after the game started. Although, we didn't end up winning, I had so much fun with everyone. After leaving the room I did notice a VR room which looked pretty fun! I might have to try the VR game next time. I highly recommend and I will definitely be back to try other rooms. read more

Great rooms here! Did both the Prisoner Escape and the Toy Room shrinking. The Prisoner Escape was my favorite, but it was a bit of a debate before deciding. Both rooms have very unique puzzles and stories. I did each room with a group of 5 total and we beat both of them, but they definitely challenged us. I am excited for their next room they are making! This was my first time going to this escape room. It was tucked in the back of the building but we were able to find it. The game host was very kind and courteous and explained all the rules to us. Once we were "locked in" we all proceeded to tackle the escape room puzzle. We did the "Toybox" and we accepted the challenge of doing "Challenge Mode" which is using 3 tips or less. I got to say, it was a challenge and extremely fun as well. It was very colorful inside the room, and it did remind me of playing so many various board games and other stuff. Our group did have our moments where we had to use our tips, but we only used three the entire time. We escaped with a little over 10 min to spare in a 18% escape rate room. I would come back again to tackle their other escape room setup. read more

We had such a great time here!! The 4 of us had reserved Prison Escape, rated as 3 difficulty out of 5. Wow they put a lot of thought into all of the pieces of the puzzle. We got to the end but didn't quite make it out. Our brains were fully exercised and we were all fully engaged the whole time! We definitely want to go back and try the other escape rooms. As a bonus, they took a picture of us at the end with our chosen signs. The rooms are 10 people capacity but no other people joined us do we had the room all to ourselves. Did the Toy Box today- Pros: Very friendly staff. Interesting game. Fairly attentive and as many clues as you need. Cons: the lobby and rooms are less polished and fancy than other escape companies- some walls made of brown card board boxes- some components broken- we actually got stuck in a side room because the door was broken and they had to reopen it so we could go back into the main room of the game Worth doing but at 30-35 dollars a person there are nicer better cared for rooms. read more

First of all I want to give kudos to the really kind and helpful staff member who helped us w/our room. She was great and her customer service skills are impressive. The room was fun, but we're taking away one star, because parts of the room were put together with cardboard and other things that looked to be falling apart. There was dirt inside some of the props and the cardboard walls were flimsy and hard to read. Overall, a fun game (The Toy Box) and great customer service, but dirty, flimsy room. Having been to the Danville escape room, Oakland, San Fran and Livermore, this is our least favorite. We played the Toy Box game. The game itself was very, very run down (poorly done). Parts were broken, dirty, torn, weathered, worn away and it seemed like someone did it by hand. It did not have the professional feeling that you get at the Danville escape room where items are framed, prined, in great condition. Most escape rooms show a video to set the stage of what you are about to do; it adds to the production value; this place did not. Some clues were very easy to retrieve in this game, others were quite challenging. The game itself is challenging overall for those looking for a harder game. It also took 2-3 minutes at one point to get our game masters attention to receive a clue. Bonus: It is close to the Danville/San Ramon area. Easy to park. Net-Net: Definitely go to Danville Quantum Escape first, then give this place a try to form your own opinion or if you are looking for a quick location if you live in the area. read more
