Zucchs, on 342 in Red Oak, across from the High School, is a sister restaurant to the popular breakfast and lunch restaurant "Gravy and More" (in the shopping area located behind it), so I was NOT surprised when they dropped off two small slices of very buttery zucchini bread for us to start the meal. What DID surprise me was the interior of Zucchs. We were told to seat ourselves in a restaurant that had very interesting twinkle lighting against a mostly dark interior. We decided to sit against a far wall in a booth and were greeted by a very charming waitress who told us all about the menu and Zucchs. Zucchs is listed as a $10 - $20 range dining experience. I believe this menu now reflects our changed economy with entrees nearly all greater than $20 and burgers and sandwiches greater than than $15. Salads with a protein $15 - $24. Desserts $13. Sides were very reasonable. My husband and I both ordered burgers. I ordered the All American Cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato and hold the mayo for me, add extra pickles! ($12.50) He ordered the Western Bacon Cheeseburger with Bacon, iceberg, tomato, onion rings and a side of BBQ sauce ($16.50) I didn't have to have fries as my side. I could choose from a list of 12 sides! Now you're talking. I chose the onion rings, my favorite with a burger. Our burgers arrived looking great, hot and yet I don't understand why they can't melt the cheese. Sigh. The Burger, otherwise, was terrific. Nicely toasted, thoroughly dressed, gave me everything I wanted plus delicious onion rings instead of French fries. My husband's BBQ sauce was spicy sweet and yummy. Great with the onion rings. I had heard, even read, that Zucchs was Red Oak's new upscale restaurant. But what I was hearing in a nearly empty restaurant was intrusive overly loud Country music and it remained that way for most of the time we were there. Yes. I should have spoken up. Now Zucchs is also billed as comfort food, American food for diverse tastes. I see nothing about the exterior or any marketing that says country. This tells me when it's nearly empty, the chef preference is country. Loud Country. Five stars for the Charming, thorough and sweet service though. She made sure we had everything, I mean everything we needed. All in all, we enjoyed our meal and would return. There's adequate parking and plenty of distanced tables and booths. Even a private dining room. There's a drive thru now, too! read more

Excellent cozy local restaurant. Nothing to shout from the mountain tops about but definitely a friendly vibe. Food was at best average. The catfish had to been from a frozen bag and the steamed broccoli was either steamed for hours or boiled until the whole thing was mush. The burger was average. read more

We were a party of 15 so I was prepared for some tangles. I will say it up front I will never go back! I ordered a ribeye steak. It came out cold to the touch. Thought ok we are a big party no problem. I explained to the waitress and much to my surprise two ladies piped up with the same complaint. I noticed the steak was a bit on the thin side but remained positive. 2nd steak came out and it was way over cooked. I ordered it medium rare and it came out probably medium well. Sent it back again or tried to and waitress said the manager had to approve? WTH you cooked it wrong not me! Anyway manager stopped by and looked at it and agreed it was over cooked. So on to steak 3. It arrived in a to go box. Guess I was no longer welcome. Got home tried to eat said steak but could not get past the gristle and the fat! It ended up in the trash! $36 for a ribeye you could almost read through and it was inedible read more

Possibly best shrimp & grits I've eaten. Excellent, much much better than most. Large shrimp, superior sauce with perfect mushrooms and peppers in sauce on grits. Ribs were very good with above average potato crisps and homemade hush puppies. Friendly attentive staff. read more

Last night I missed out on an amazing Coconut Cream Pie, but I scored with this amazing dinner at Zucchs, Chicken Pot pie...went back to have pie and was delighted to find a rich and delicious Chocolate Cream Pie...perfect with their great coffee, locally sourced. Zucchs is a great addition to Red Oak. The food was awesome. From the complementary zucchini bread, to the creative, flavorful entrees, we thoroughly enjoyed every part of our experience. The interior of the restaurant is in the works still, as it used to be Randy's Barbecue. I would definitely recommend the Gallus, which is oak smoked chicken. Very nice place from the people who brought Gravy to Red Oak! Great food, service and atmosphere. Looking forward to going back and telling others about it too. We were eating a late lunch and it was not too busy at the time so our server actually went over to Gravy, across the parking lot, and got some cinnamon rolls for us.
