December 27/2024: Dinner with Torsten, Manuela & my Al. This was a super cool restaurant. I'm the middle old town Frankfurt. By the looks of the place it's been around for many years. The food was superb. The Jagerschnitzel (pork Schnitzel with mushroom gravy) was delicious. It came with a side of house made bratkotoffel (Potatoes). I ordered a side salad with the meal as well but it came late so it was a 0.5 deduction. As for the service, our server was very pleasant & kinda "German smiled"...meaning it looked kinda forced but the smile was still there. There were no complaints about this place except one...portion size. It was quit small I found so I deducted 0.5 for that. This could easily move to a 5.0 with minor adjustments. A great place to take a break from the crowded street at the oldtown area. A place to enjoy some beer and classic German dishes like schnitzel and spätzle before more walking. The portion was about right. You'll also be paying a bit more for the experience in this area. When we were there for lunch, there were a lot of older German locals. The waitress was really nice and spoke English very well. I believe another older lady might be the manager (or owner), and she was super friendly to everyone. read more

We found Zun Standesämtchen when we we're trying to get out of the rain. We walked in and promptly ushered to a table where the waitress told us 4 beers coming up. We laughed and just went along with it. We ended up getting the original schnitzel which was really good and my friends got the Frankfurter plate. All in all was a good meal. Please not make sure you eat everything on your plate because even leaving a little food on your plate they think something is wrong with your meal. They do take take Mastercard and Visa. read more

A long-standing restaurant in the heart of romerburg frankfurt! This was our first meal in frankfurt and it set the bar pretty high. It wasn't that busy when we came in the morning (just an hour after they opened), but after we left there was a decent crowd! Even though our waiter spoke very little English, he was very pleasant and welcoming. We sat inside on the first floor near the bar but they had more tables and seating areas in the front patio and upstairs. The chef's special came with a perfectly cooked pork knuckle that was bigger than my fist. The meat was literally falling off the bone and the gravy sauce tasted like any other salty brown gravy. The tangy/vinegary sauerkraut paired perfectly with the salty pork and gravy sauce it came with. However, the potatoes that it came with was a little too greasy for our preference. The schnitzel in mushroom sauce was pretty good. It was friend well and the mushroom sauce tasted very fresh and delicious! It tasted like the perfect mix or cream of mushroom and brown gravy. Overall, this place was pretty good and right in the center of romerburg, a tourist center. If you want to try some iconic German food in a historic building, come on by! read more

I was treated so poorly at this establishment my second time visiting. I've been here before and have ordered food with friends and family and was a patron here that spent a good amount of money. I looked to this place as a focal point of my time in Frankfurt but, after today, this place has left a dark mark on my travels here. I came to use the ATM as I had used it previously and wasn't aware of any others in the area. I walked in and asked politely to use the ATM where they the owners refused me access and a waiter physically barricaded the steps, physically preventing me from entering any further, they told me only paying customers could use the ATM and told me unkindly without any sympathy or suggestion for a different location that I wasn't allowed to use their ATM. It is a rarity to have this experience in Germany. I wouldn't say this without reason. After the hostile interaction, I reminded them that I've been a patron here before, spent my money here before, was a paying customer. It was a strange, unkind, and rude interaction especially in a heavy tourist area. I understand Germans can be stern but this felt prejudiced and was unwarranted when they'd be benefiting from my money surcharge from the ATM interaction. Why they had to tarnish experience in their establishment there after spending a good amount of money there? I will never know. I will not be back and will not be suggesting anyone to come here either. I also felt like they were being racist & xenophobic towards me because of my religious garments which I did not wear previously my first time there. read more

This is a nice little spot to enjoy a meal with some beers in the old charm of the Römerberg area. This is a more touristy area but that didn't seem to cause any real issues for my group. The service was actually some of the best I had during this visit to Germany. My pike dish actually tasted like a trout almondine dish back home in New Orleans which is high praise. The waiter ensured our beers were kept refilled and took great care of my group. The food and ambiance were really nice in this area and the outdoor beer garden area was a pleasant place to eat and drink. When I visit other countries, I have a very simple rule of thumb when it comes to locally owned restaurants; if it's packed with locals, it must be good. This rule was no different when it came to Zum Standesämtchen. While walking around, I was looking for a random place to dine and there are several restaurants just in the Römerberg circle. However, it really caught my eye that Zum Standesämtchen was packed with people. I decided to give it a try and much to my surprise, there were tables still available and no reservations were required. I ordered escargot, onion soup, a frankfurter with freshly made mustard, mashed potatoes, freshly made sauerkraut and beer. All food came out not fast but not too slow, just the amount of time I knew it would take to cook all dishes if I was to make them from scratch. And that is exactly what I tasted, freshly made and very hot food. I also learned this is one of the oldest restaurants in Germany. If you visit Frankfurt AM and happen to be walking around the Römerberg circle, give this restaurant a try, you will not be disappointed. read more

Came on a Sunday afternoon, party of 3. We lucked out on an inside table and was seated right away. Our server gave us the menus and as we browsed through, dishes were being brought to other customers. We all tried to look at what people were ordering since all 3 of us were tourists. After our sever took our order, this is where the disappointment started and hence the 1 star rating. Our food took 45 minutes to arrive whereas we were seeing other patrons who have arrived after us get their plates before us. Our server passed us numerous times without a word- not even to tell us our food is coming or to apologize for the wait.. nada. When food finally arrived, the loaf was so salty it was almost like eating rock salt. Service and food were terrible (for lack of a better term). I had a bad interaction with the waiter. I was going to sit on one of the tables outside, but the waiter asked me to sit inside because the table was reserved. There were few other tables that were empty but reserved, but this one didn't have the sign for reservation. It was quite apparent from her face that she was lying and she simply didn't want me to sit there because the table was for four people but I was alone. Okay, I can understand that because she would want to have a table with four people (and make more money). The table has never been filled until I finished my dinner and left there. By the time I left, over half the tables outside were empty. As other reviews commented, the waiter "assumed" 20% tip and was typing in 23.80 euros with my bill of 19.80 euros. Also, she first rejected a credit card payment by saying that it is not allowed for below 24 euros. At the end, she accepted my credit card. I usually give 20% tip in the US and also 10-20% in Germany, but she wasn't worth any. I know it's a great location (although you don't get to see the Römerberg if you're forced to sit inside), the food was okay, but there are better ones at this price. I understand the price is for the location, but I wouldn't comeback for dinner ever. It seems they don't care customers much because there will be always a lot of people at Römerberg. When you get off the train near the Romemberg section, you are confronted with a large promenade of western shops and eating options ( Pizza Hut, Burger King, even a Dunkin Donuts). Ignore these and head to the Romemberg center where you will find the Zum Standesamtchen. Small, welcoming and open well into the evening, the restaurant offered excellent service (by Robbie) with meals served at piping hot temperatures. Started with the encrusted soft cheese appetizer with jam and bread and then mows to some Goulash before having a salad and the Rahmscnhitzel. The app and the entree were both done well with an abundance of mushrooms in a flavorful but not overpowering sauce in the latter. But what stood out for me here was the Goulash. Best I've had with tender strips of beef in a tangy and lightly spiced base with finely chopped and cooked vegetables. Delicious, give it serious consideration on your next visit. read more
