Been wanting to check out this spot since they first open but no luck finding reservations. However, Sunday around 5pm was perfect. Was able to find street parking nearby and restaurant wasn't too busy yet. Host seated us right away, our table was perfect and spacious. Modern, clean and chic decors. The overall service was amazingly delightful. We had trouble picking out from the list of cocktails and one of the waiter was able to explained each one to best our taste buds. I would describe the food not your typical traditional French cuisine but more of a modern twist. The dishes we order were all light, flavorful and refreshing. Love the citrus and herbs incorporated into the dishes. The portions were huge and fulfilling. The duck was delicious but wish it paired with a mash or possibly creamy risotto to dilute the richness a little. But, the presentation of each dish was well crafted like a piece of art. Will return even just for a cocktails with friends.
Appropriately named "To the west," this classic brasserie with fresh Californian influences reflects a best-of-both-worlds approach. Made an early Sunday dinner reservation for our party of 4, watched the restaurant fill up throughout the evening, and lingered for 3+ hours in typical French fashion enjoying the lively atmosphere and savoring each sip and bite. Service was fantastic and we never felt rushed. À L'Ouest is such a lovely and highly anticipated addition to North Park -- a grand corner property from The Trust Restaurant Group that finally opened, and it absolutely delivered. We waited a few weeks after opening to check it out, and it was fabulous. The service was warm, the style is gorgeous, and the food was truly to die for. They also have an upstairs bar called Georgette's, which we didn't get to try this time, but it looked beautiful -- definitely planning a return visit for that. We ordered the Ravioles du Dauphiné, Steak Frites, and the Salade de Laitue. Hands down, the ravioles were the standout dish -- something I would come back for again and again. It arrives as a sheet of 20 square ravioles all connected, and the cheese, butter, and oils make it insanely rich, silky, and flavorful. By far my favorite. The Steak Frites were excellent -- perfectly cooked steak and thin, crisp fries. The salad was fresh and simple, a nice complement to the richer dishes. Service throughout the night was excellent. Although we don't eat much seafood, there were tons of options available -- oysters, lobster, mussels -- so seafood lovers will have plenty to choose from. A beautiful new North Park spot with great energy, thoughtful service, and food worth returning for.
This place fully lived up to the hype!! Having seen so much fanfare online, I wondered if it could possibly meet the expectations - and it did!!! Our first dinner here, we were pleased with the ambiance, setting, and thoughtful service. We had a full rundown of the menu (which just made things harder because EVERYTHING sounded good). Drinks - complex, fun, and flavorful! Something for every taste. Fruits de Mer - smoked mussels were SO good. we were slurping out whatever leftover chili crisp we could get. Hors d'oevres - obsessssed with this ravioles du dauphine!!! Beets had amazingly complex flavor and texture!! Such a good balance to the BUTTER filled ravioli. Entrees - pork shank fullll of flavor and goodness. came back for the french onion burger another day and it did not disappoint! I want to try everything on this menu!

The service was warm, friendly, and attentive throughout the evening. Our server made excellent recommendations for both the food and drink pairings, and every suggestion was spot on. It was such a lovely night celebrating life with friends. Every dish had its own unique flavors and was absolutely delicious. Don't skip dessert--the lemon tart is a must! The only item I'd pass on is the baguette and butter, as I've had better elsewhere. Everything else? Simply enjoy. Highly recommended!
This is a lovely restaurant with outstanding service. The atmosphere is nice for sharing a meal with friends as you are able to have a conversation without shouting. We ordered the salad, asparagus, french onion soup, swordfish, fries, and the pork shank. Everything was very good. Standouts were the pork, fries, salad and asparagus. Prices are high but to be expected with this level of service. Great for special occasions!
What a beautiful new restaurant to join the Trust Reataurant Group! It has ample seating. And both nights I was there it was packed. However, my second visit we luckily snagged seats at the bar. We ordered cocktails to start, the Interlude was an easy choice. It's their take on a classic martini, served partially poured with a sidecar to keep the rest chilled. The LE 76 and Bisous were light and refreshing! My favorite starters were the liver mousse parfait and the crudo. We ordered the crudo as recommended by our bartender and it was possibly the best crudo I've had! The liver was super creamy and topped with a dollop of strawberry jam, just delicious. We also had the Manila clams, Confit pork shank with marcella beans, ravioli de Daphine and ratatouille. All shareable and very delicious! I spied Chef Wise at the bar. But I wouldn't recommend the table we had, since it was adjacent to the bar and a very busy walkway. The bar seating wraps around to the sidewalk. So you can walk in to just enjoy a drink at the bar or as you wait for your table. Overall, I loved the quaint French ambiance, classic but not over the top. I can't wait to return!!
Worth Going Out of Your Way For Some restaurants are good. A few are memorable. And every once in a while, you leave wondering why every restaurant can't operate at this level. A L'Ouest was one of those experiences. From the moment we walked in until the last bite, the service was as close to flawless as I've experienced in San Diego. Professional without being stuffy. Friendly without being overbearing. Every detail seemed intentional, yet effortless. The food? Spectacular. The steak may very well be the best I've had in San Diego. Perfectly cooked, unbelievably tender--literally cut-it-with-your-fork tender--and finished with a sauce that elevated it without hiding the quality of the meat. The burger wasn't an afterthought either. It was one of those burgers that makes you stop talking for a minute because everyone at the table is too busy enjoying it. Rich, juicy, perfectly balanced, and absolutely worth ordering. The ravioli was outstanding, the grilled vegetables were beautifully prepared, the fries were crisp and addictive, and every plate that hit the table looked as good as it tasted. The beverages matched the food--creative, well-crafted, and top shelf. I always try to find something that could have been better. This time... I couldn't. If I had to score it, it's 6 out of 5 stars. San Diego has a lot of great restaurants. A L'Ouest belongs on the very short list of places I'll enthusiastically recommend without hesitation--and I'll be back.
I've been here for dinner but decided to check out their brunch. Had their Le Bloody and their Le Loupe cocktails. Everything is handmade here and that includes the bloody mix which was absolute perfection. Le Loupe was like a tasty refreshing cantaloupe. Get the Bloody Mary if you want savory get le loupe if you want sweet and refreshing. We started off with their beignets for food. Wonderful! Highly recommend! Wish they were a bit more piping hot but seriously the tastiest beignets I've had thus far. We then had the croque madame and the avocado croissant benedict. The croque was our favorite. It's a favorite of mine so I'm kind of a snob with these and this blew my mind. I swapped the salad for pommes Frittes and it was the best move I could have made. 15/10. My husband had the avocado croissant benedict. Again everything they make here is homemade so the croissant was really good. This was a great choice but honestly the croque was just SO MINDBLOWINGLY GOOD. Will have to come back to try more. Please note the brunch crew is more chill and more casual than dinner. The service was impeccable. Special shout out to Alana our server and Diego who made sure we were having a fantastic experience. Reservations recommended! It got a bit busy. You could walk in and probably be fine but it may be a gamble as the day progresses. Get there early to account for parking as it's only street unless you go caddy corner where there is a parking structure. This place consistently gives me reason to come back and I can't recommend it more.
Parking is difficult. Best to either pay for one of the nearby lots or be prepared to walk a few blocks. Interior was very nice. A great place to take a date. If you do not have a reservation expect to sit at the bar (if available). We were seated at the bar. They have candles at the bar that smell very strong. Staff were friendly. Tried: Fish sandwich $21 - the French fries were overcooked and lukewarm. We barely touched them. I would upgrade to something else instead of fries. The fish sandwich was a little salty. It may have needed to drain a little longer as it tasted like a mouthful of oil for the first couple of bites. Bun, sauce and lettuce were nice. I'll be back to try their French onion burger maybe with a reservation this time for dinner.
Super cute, new hot spot!! We stumbled across this while driving and passing by. The outdoor bar concept was what drew our eye. We were just looking for a cocktail, so we sat the bar. The bartenders were all super outgoing and friendly. We tried the Le 76 and Royale Spritz. We loved both! Super refreshing and a good balance of sweetness. The indoor decor was adorable. I'd love to come back and try the food.
We came on Saturday night w rsvp and were seated on the sidewalk patio. Gorgeous night for dinner outside and people gazing. Decor is old French. I loved it. Not a fan of the bathrooms though. Service was excellent. Austin was very personable and we enjoyed is company. Food was a bit of a miss. They were prepared fine but nothing wow me. Prices are high so that doesn't help either. It was good to try once. Parking can be hectic around this area. We parked at the paid Union Bank parking structure. Which is across the street from the restaurant.
Came here with my daughter for a Mother's Day Brunch. It was such a delightful treat! As we stepped through the main entrance, we were amazed by the beautiful decor. I've been to Paris twice, and I felt like I was transported back to the French cafés along Avenue des Champs-Élysées (Paris's most famous boulevard featuring all kinds of boutiques, cafes, and restaurants). Our server, Victoria, took excellent care of us and was incredibly sweet and attentive. She made recommendations of her favorite dishes and we ordered all of them: MAPLE GLAZED BRAISED BACON TOAST - soft scrambled eggs, chives GRILLED BEETS - black garlic marmalade, fourme d'ambert, hazelnut, endive, asian pear FRENCH ONION SOUP - oxtail, gruyère, cooper sharp, chives FRENCH OMELETTE - boursin, bibb salad The French onion soup was our absolute favorite and was notably THE BEST EVER. Seriously, I've had French onion soup at countless other restaurants, but this was the best. What made it really stand out was the fact that they added a generous amount of oxtail that was slowly braised in the soup. It was incredibly flavorful and very crave-worthy. C'est magnifique!

Finally was able to make my way into the Trust Group's newest addition A L'Ouest in North Park. Right at the busy corner of university and 30th, A L'Ouest brings new life to a once eye-sore of an intersection, with a fresh French inspired menu and swanky new setup. Ample patio space, floral decor, and a bright open air dining room makes for the perfect backdrop for a happy hour or a nice date night. The drink menu impresses with tons of options and a fun martini service. Didn't make it past the drink menu but will absolutely be back to try the dinner menu. The Bon Mot martini was fantastic. Bonus - Georgette's their upstairs speakeasy also opened recently with piano barn lounge. Excited to stop back in for the full experience! read more
Overall -- a fantastic experience. Let's get to it - the star of the show for me was the French Onion Soup. They use a slightly different cheeses, but also cook it with oxtail. The oxtail was what makes it! It added an additional depth of flavor. Amazing. The steak and frites (we went with the New York strip) was really great and a fair price considering the price of prime steak today. The baked beets were amazing with a nice mild blue cheese, golden beets, and nuts for the crunch. Cocktails were very good as well with lots of options! The only average item for us was the beignets. They were okay, nothing bad -- but nothing amazing. They would be a skip for us next time. Also, staff was super friends and Sarah (Sara?) the server assistant was amazing. Friendly, talkative, and such a pleasant energy! We'll be back. read more

This place was nice with a good atmosphere and stylish vibe. The space felt polished and higher-end, and the bartenders were genuinely friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome throughout the afternoon. We only came here for drinks and sat outside at the bar. We had dirty martinis and Carajillos. The drinks were well made, but definitely on the expensive side for what you get. That said, you're probably paying more for the ambiance and overall experience than anything else. Even with the higher prices, we still had a good time and appreciated how kind and personable the staff was. Great spot if you're looking for a more elevated night out and don't mind spending a little extra on cocktails. read more
I very much enjoyed eating at A L'ouest. A+ for vibes. A+ for service. But they're pricey, so not an everyday regular outing. ;) I find that their appetizers / smaller bites are much better than their entrees. Unique cocktails -- highly rec the bisous! Delectable. Highlights: chicken liver parfait, ravioles du dauphine, and the tartiflette. The banana mille-feuille is also a standout, even when I don't usu like bananas. Recommend going as a group, so you can try more dishes! ;) read more
We've been wanting to try this place since they recently opened. Reservations were about a month out, and we came on a Saturday for dinner. I thought parking would be worse than it was, but there were a few Lots very close by with no issue. Since we had a little bit of a bigger party they placed Us in the only booth in the restaurant. It's carved out into the wall and very cute. It had its own chandelier and a curtain you could close if you wanted privacy I'm assuming. It was decorated with pictures all over the wall. The staff was great and explained the menu very well, and made some recommendations. They ordered several dishes between all of us. French onion soup with oxtail was amazing and a must in my opinion. Everyone loved it and it actually had more oxtail and I expected. I will definitely be ordering this again. French onion burger. Unfortunately this was extremely salty and I couldn't finish it so was a bit disappointed. I did scrape off some of the onion mixture on top which did seem to help of it. I'm not sure if this is always how it is or if it was just a one-off. Steak frites. These were delicious, and the texture and flavor were perfect. The gravy they pour over top of it was so good. The portion was pretty generous as well. The Pate with Jam On Top was probably at least favorite. The Jam really overpowered things with the taste, and I just couldn't get past it. None of us really enjoyed it. The beets we're a favorite of everyone's, the texture and flavor in the nuts they added all came together nicely. The ravioli appetizer was also a favorite, everyone enjoyed it. It also had some type of small nuts in it, which added a little extra something, and the flavor and texture was good. Would order again. Unfortunately we were too full for dessert, so so have to try that on the next visit! The menu prices vary, and i feel like it's got a good bit of options. I'd recommend coming here for a special occasion like a date night, or birthday celebration to check it out. Im betting it will be one you return to. read more
À L' oeste is french meaning 'to the west' westward. The restaurant self describes as a brasserie, which is a dining place that serves beer, wine and food in a casual relaxed setting. Located in North Park, a very trendy popular area of San Diego. As part of the Trust Restaurant Group, this restaurant offers traditional French cuisine with a modern flair. Have dined here a few times; sometimes drinks at the bar lounge and other times with a group of friends sharing appetizers. My most recent visit was for Sunday brunch, which was an added service to the usual dinner service. The brunch menu was limited and didn't offer some popular selections from the dinner menu, which was a disappointment and should be corrected. At Beverly Hills Spago's I often order off menu items from the lunch or dinner menu and the restaurant always accommodates, always, which merits 5 stars. Note worthy dishes from the À L' oeste menu: Salad Laitude, French Onion Soup, mini seafood tower, tuna crudo and Steak Frites..steak was prepared perfectly. Service from the servers during brunch was combative. I ordered a specific salad, but was presented with a different salad and the server insisted that's what it was. Good thing I took a picture of the salad I ordered and had to show the server, who was proven wrong, Trés Mal! Another service faux pas was the long wait for every dish to be prepared and presented, so sloth slow. The quasi manager tried to cover the service errors by the kitchen and servers but the entire dining experience had me wondering like I wanted to leave asap, where's the exit?...'to the west?' Although I may be partial to French foods and while most of the food here was delicious, the disorganized chaos from the servers was NOT a relaxing dining experience especially during brunch. Rest. Review Location& view : The location is ok, Parking is an issue. Recommend indoor seating. Ambiance: Overall place is nice and quiet. Service: great. The receptionist was really nice and food/drinks were served in timely manner taking in concern that Sat/Sun nights this location Would be fully booked, but serves still managed very well. Drinks /: we ordered 3 drinks from the bar all were amazing Food : we ordered Appetizers: Tuna Crudo & Steak Tartare which both tasted phenomenal. Dinner: We had Steak Frites ( Wagyu eye of rib) would not recommended, it was over cooked and they place the sauce on the steak right away without asking for our preference . The other dish was Ravioli which was below average, very greasy and not rich with flavor. Desserts : Had Banana Mille-Feuille was so delicious. Would I recommend the place ? Yes. A'louest has my heart! The vibe of this space is immaculate. Dark, moody, sensual. Amazing spot for a date night or dinner with the girls. Our waiter was nice and attentive! He did a whole layout of the menu and gave us his recommendations as well. We ordered 1 cocktail and 1 mocktail, both were delicious! I still think about the pomme pomme mocktail, would also be amazing with alcohol. The ravioli appetizer is a 10/10! I would go back solely for this dish. Do yourself a favor and order it. A L'Ouest Restaurant has now been open for a couple of months. I have been wanting to try it for dinner. A friend invited me to a meal, and off we went. As other Yelp Reviewers have noted, parking is extremely tight in the area. The restaurant itself is located on the very busy Northeast corner of University Avenue and 30th Street, in North Park. There is no valet parking. The entranceway to the restaurant has a sloping floor. Caution needs to be exercised, especially upon leaving, if you have any mobility issues whatsoever. We each enjoyed the Sole Meuniere. However, the portion was too large for one person, and the dish is likely intended to be shared, although the printed menu makes no reference to that information. It is nice to see this old-fashioned dish on the menu. We were surprised the waiter slapped the check down on the table before it was requested. We were even more surprised when, after we signed the check, and it was sitting on our table, he snatched the signed check from under our noses as we finished our bottle of fine Burgundy. Gorgeous restaurant in North Park! Make a resy because it is booking up fast. We waited about 1 month for a decent dinner time. My girlfriends & I came here for a birthday & had a blast. Friendly & professional service, delicious cocktails & the dishes were yummy! Also, what is that fragrance you have as soon as you walk in? It smelled phenomenal! Cocktails, apps & desserts are all a must. Skip the mains, they were not flavorful & way too expensive. Loved this restaurant!! Def going to come back again soon. Everything we ordered was delicious. Their Ravioles might just be my favorite pasta I've tried in a long time. Everything was seasoned really well and balanced. Nothing was too much or too little. Service was great and the restaurant decor was really pretty. Also don't skip on the banana dessert! Surprisingly disappointed by A L'ouest after seeing phenomenal reviews. The food was excellent overall (really enjoyed the lamb tartine), but I won't be back after the poor service. The entire experience lasted almost two and a half hours and ended with the server blaming us for the poor experience we had, which I find to be completely unacceptable and is not something I have ever experienced previously. The duck entree, while fantastic, was $87, and the service we received did not remotely justify the price. It took 15 minutes to be greeted after I sat down (my friend arrived before me), and another 15 to have a beverage delivered. The server did not introduce himself, ask either of us if we'd dined at A'Louest before, or offer to review the menu or provide recommendations. He was clearly rushing and I worry they were understaffed, both in front-of-house and kitchen given the ultimate pace of the entrees, which came out an hour after we ordered them. The patio does not have heaters of any kind, which are necessary after dark in San Diego, even in summer. The interior was beautifully decorated and had a phenomenal vibe, as did the very clean restrooms. We were waiting for our check after dinner and I finally went inside to ask for it. The manager promptly brought it out. I then shared with him some feedback on the experience and he was very gracious, even providing his business card and offering to help (maybe provide as discount? He didn't specify) if we returned. However, it is what happened after this that led me to write this review and ensured I will never return: the server actually came back to our table and proceeded to BLAME US FOR HOW LONG OUR FOOD TOOK TO COME OUT! "So everything was great, just some issues with the pace? That's actually the normal pace - but if you had put everything in at once, we could have brought it out faster." I looked at him and simply said, "it would have been helpful if you had asked." He looked shocked and said, "what?" "It would have been helpful if you would have asked if we were ready to order. We had to ask you to order our entrees, and you didn't take the order until we'd finished our appetizers. You also did not inform us that we should order everything all at once." Not only did we have to ask to order our entrees, we also had to flag him down for appetizers and he was nowhere to be found after we'd finished eating. I have literally never been blamed by a server for a poor dining experience. I was shocked, and it was completely avoidable, too! All this gentleman had to do was let us know at the beginning of our time at A'Louest that they recommend putting in everything at once. As mentioned previously, he did not explain the menu, provide recommendations, or suggest that we place an order for everything together. Blaming guests for a disappointing experience is an egregious violation of any semblance of a service standard and completely unacceptable. As a result, I did not take the manager's business card as I have no desire to ever dine here again and am posting this review to warn others. Et Voila, Blue Boheme and Wormwood provide similarly quality and taste with significantly better service. The vibe at A'Louest is exceptional, but after this shocking and disappointing dining experience, I will not return. read more

the dishes! the vibes! everything was perfection. this place came highly recommended by my cousin and I am so glad my boyfriend and I came to try it. we did make a reservation a month in advance since we were visiting from out of town. this place has exactly the upscale vibes I was looking for, the bar is a bit of an open concept idea and you get a view facing towards the rest of north park. the attention to detail and interior design was immaculate. as for food, we ordered the following which was sufficient for two of us: - smoked mussels: topped off with this crispy chili which add more of that smoky flavor. served cold which was still just as delicious - crispy lamb neck terrine: lamb coated in panko crumbs, with their take on a tzatziki sauce. very good but actually our least fav of everything we ordered - raviolo du daphigne: sooo good, smothered with cheese and butter and just melts in your mouth, surprisingly pairs well with the dover sole - dover sole: quite hefty for the price ($84) and very excellent. cooked in brown butter, capers and lemon to squeeze over top - banana mille fieulle: i'm not usually a banana person but this was FANTASTIC. very subtle with the banana. goes with this marshmallow ice cream that just balances it out so well. Honestly the bestttttt dish of the night can't recommend this place enough!! they also have a speakeasy upstairs called georgette's which we were able to check out but consider making a reservation before or after dinner if you are interested read more

Loved this new spot in the heart of North Park. The main appeal is the chic vibe and the outdoor bar with standing space, plus indoor bar seating if you're walking in. It gets quite busy and reservations go fast. We put our name in around 6pm for a table and never got called even after about 3.5 hours, but we ended up just grabbing seats at the bar and still had a great time. We ordered a few cocktails and food and everything was really good. The steak frites were cooked perfectly with a super tasty sauce and crispy fries. We also tried the tuna crudo and grilled beets, both were great. The beets were way more flavorful than expected and I was obsessed with the black garlic marmalade. Sitting at the bar ended up being one of the best parts, and the bartender was super attentive and really helpful with cocktail recs! read more
My first experience we had to wait around 40 minutes after our reservation time to get seated but the food and service were amazing so we wanted to give it a second try. This time we waited again close to half hour, which is frustrating when you're waiting weeks for a reservation. They need a better system of clearing out the tables with earlier reservations. The tuna crudo was delicious but the price point for certain items is really steep. $26 for 5 small pieces of tuna or 6 little mussels is too much. The main dishes were more appropriately priced except for the sole and duck that rang alarms at $85. The service was great once we were seated. However, with the price tag and difficulty getting early reservations and getting seated I think I'd rather go to Steak48. read more

Oh my god! Wow wow wow. This place is amazing! I am in love and need to eat here everyday! From the cocktails, wine list, fruits de mer aka oysters, hor d'oeuvres, and the incredible steak frites and ratatouille.. I almost licked the plate. I am so impressed from the care and detail of the interior - it had a vintage California French-brasserie vibe - very cool. Every where you looked the staff was ready and waiting to assist! I was so impressed with their opinions on flavors and they were all so knowledgeable on pairings! I have a new reservation already - can't wait to come again read more

Food is as pricey and not up to par Ravioli: 5/10 decent but not remarkable Bread: 2/10 ok, but not worth 10. Very underseasoned Steak frites: 5/10 not flavorful, meat had weird taste to it and the au poivre sauce was lackluster. French fries were mid French onion soup: 5/10 was ok but not anything special Soufflé: 10/10 the high point of the meal and among the best I've had. À L'Ouest (to the West) has opened in a long vacated corner in the heart of the North Park neighborhood. This is the latest entity from The Trust Restaurant Group with Chef Brad Wise at the helm. The ownership spent a lot of time and money to refurbish the space into an upscale French brasserie. Reservations on OpenTable were a must during the opening weeks as the demand was high for the dinner service that runs only from Wednesday to Sunday. The dining room was spacious and could seat well over 100 customers. A central bar was stationed in the back of the room. There was even a staircase that led to another level, however that space has not been developed yet, let alone open for seating. I sat at a table adjacent to the front windows. A small lamp was provided at each table so diners could view the menu which was divided into five sections... fruits of the sea, charcuteries, hors d'oeuvres, entrees, and sides. I selected the Black Cod Brochette for an entree and added a side of Saffron Bomba Rice. Both items were delivered simultaneously. The pieces of cod were on a metal skewer that the server removed. Chanterelle mushrooms, butternut squash, pistou, vin jaune, and herbs were the other components on the plate. The fish was cooked nicely, but I found the sauce to be salty. The yellow rice was seasoned with honeynut squash, guindilla pepper, and aioli. It was also salty for my taste buds but not to the point it was inedible. A list of seven desserts and five cocktails made up the after dinner menu. I normally don't order dessert, yet it was necessary this time because I needed something sweet to counter the extra savory items I had consumed. The Banana Mille-Feuille was my choice. This was a puff pastry with caramel and marshmallow ice cream. The chef who assembled this item deserved kudos for the presentation. The ice cream was exactly what I needed to cleanse my palate. The prices were on par with the newer fancy eateries around town. The service by the staff was solid. I would probably order one of the wood fired entrees at another visit. If you enjoy the other restaurants from this ownership group, then À L'Ouest will be right up your alley. read more

Came here for drinks after Bacari so the space is very cute fun lively service was good. We just got a drink so they came very quickly, but I just felt like the dreams had a weird aftertaste. I happen. We're both fully can't even describe the aftertaste, but looking at the food going by it look good so I'll give it a go and try it for dinner one of these days read more
I've been very excited to try this place out, came in on a Thursday night and was able to grab a bar seat. It's a very interesting bar where you can look out the window, I didn't even think about where normally you're looking shelfs of alcohol, it's quite different to look out a window, pretty cool. The cocktail I got, the grand chancellor, definitely gave old fashioned vibes. But elevated. Very nice. Perfectly balanced. Big rock with design. Well done. Started off with the french onion soup, which how else do you review a french restaurant except by the measure of their french onion. This was really outstanding, and I have a high bar here. Cheese was beautifully broiled on top. The crusty bread on top was easy enough to break apart and eat (it isn't always). The broth had a deep, rich, beefy flavor and even had some shredded beef in there which was a nice bonus. And then of course plenty of onions. Super solid, though a touch pricey for soup sadly. Went with the pork shank for my entree and man this thing was huge. Again beautiful presentation, big chunk of meat that just fell off the bone. Nice pickled veg accoutrement to add some acidity and brightness to an otherwise rich and fatty dish. Same for the sauce. Beans were a nice addition, but this is a meat forward dish. Probably ideally split with a few people ordered alongside some other dishes. From the menu, the ravioli look so good in a giant sheet, definitely want to try those. Also the french onion burger is also something I've gotta go back and try. I couldn't possibly finish the pork shank after the french onion soup and ended up taking the other half home which they boxed up for me. Finished things off with a creme brulee topped with lavender macarons, a fun twist. Very solid, nice portion, classic, can't go wrong. Service was a bit odd, it seemed like the bartenders weren't quite sure what area they were working, and I had a bit of a hard time ordering at points. But these sort of things could just be kinks of the brand new restaurant, so to be expected, and nothing too terrible. Staff was friendly and entertained my questions. They have Kronenbourg on draft which is a really fun thing to see as a classic French beer that you can't really find in the states. It's a pretty basic lager, but something about it just evokes the memories of traveling in Europe. Apparently they can only get it in a weird size and had to get a special tap for it. Respect! The atmosphere is pretty, grandiose, though cool on the color palate makes it feel a little less warm and inviting. Also I'm not sure if they were burning candles or where the smell was coming from, but I kept getting strong wafts of I think Jasmine? I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it, it was an interesting, I think it's cool they're trying to go for something different. Also don't sleep on the dessert cocktails, they all sound incredible, the banana creme brulee especially. Check it out before you decide on a drink! Wish I had seen it before I ordered. New kid on the block doing french food right. Now all I need is some beef bourguignon on the menu! read more
