It is the quintessential greasy spoon, the only kind of restaurant that could match the Americana energy of spring sunset baseball. While the name implies a burger focus it does not give justice to the full breadth of the menu. Eating my feelings I opted for the Chicken Fried Steak plate with mashed potatoes, corn, and a buttery griddled dinner roll. It was like biting into a lynyrd skynrd guitar solo on 4th of July. They're super generous with the thick cut bacon and they literally wrap the patty in the bacon like nothing I've ever seen before. The amount of care they put into my burger genuinely impressed me. Came late night after some pool and beers. This is an old school diner, the type you see in the movies. Breakfast, burgers, shakes and the daily specials. I had the Double Bacon and Mushroom Cheeseburger, which our server highly recommended. Our server was really friendly and enthusiastic. Food came out pretty fast, Burger was huge, a bit sloppy but expected with the amount of bacon and mushrooms piled on top of two 1/4 patties. Wow I am so disappointed because I always come here but this time the service was off. I repeatedly said what I wanted and they ended giving me something else and the French fries were very stiff and no flavor. The burgers here a good, but everything else I have ordered is low quality food. Biscuits and gravy special, I was hoping for a winner, but it was barely edible. Chewy eggs, weird looking and tasting gravy, hard biscuits, and half cooked bacon. Fries are usually undercooked or overcooked as well. I simply go for the burgers at this point. Just no lettuce on there, it's shredded. And the milkshakes are decent. I was hoping for better food since it's one of the only late night spots, but at least I know where to grab a late night burger. read more

Working in the area for many years, there are not that many places to eat late at night, especially in Martinez. 1/4 burger is finally back to being 24/7 for the first time since the pandemic. Some people will complain about the prices increasing but hasn't every establishment? Plus their food is always cooked to order and way better than choosing a fast food spot. My bacon cheeseburger combo here is only a few dollars more than any fast food spot, and again working nights it's the perfect place to get food that's hot and fresh. Their bacon burger literally has two huge strips that wrap around the entire burger. They do not skimp on their ingredients either. It's a no frills, consistent place every time I've gone. Can't believe I've never reviewed before, since I've been eating here for 20 years. The burgers, patty melts, fries & onion rings are really good, but my usual is bacon & eggs. James cooks everything perfectly usual hours are 10pm-6am) but the other cooks are good too. The pancakes are huge, plate size. I often get some to go & heat up the next day. They reheat really well. All the food looks good and I've never heard anyone complain about food or service. The reason I deducted a star is because the prices are getting so high that it's cheaper to drive to Digger's for lunch. I understand prices need to be high enough to cover increased grocery prices and I hope higher wages, along with all the other higher costs today. Nothing has been spent on updating the building, inside or out, since I've been going. lol. The charm of the bar stool that's been broken for as long as I can remember, the window seals so dirty, they've never seen a cleaning product. lol. It would make me feel better to see the place cleaned up a bit. One very positive thing is that I feel very comfortable going here alone. As an older woman that's very important to me. When we walked in, most of the patrons were eating breakfast, but we came for burgers. It's a nice place with just enough parking. Not too loud inside, but your usual small restaurant expectations. We ordered 6 cheeseburgers and six fries. It came out quick enough, and off we went to the work site, which was 20 minutes away. Showed up and passed out the burgers. You would have expected the bun to be a little soggy due to the size of the burger, which was huge, but they held up all the way to the end. A definite plus. This is a great place I think it's open 24 hours a day too. Portions they serve are great. The food is very tasty. The only problem I had is that when they gave me the biscuits and gravy the guy put the gravy on and set the plate aside. And I got the meal it was not hot. But everything was tasty in fact I think that they gave me too much. Coffee was nice and they give you large portions of creamer unlike other restaurants will give you a small sample. That way you don't have to ask for more. The staff was friendly I've been here a couple other times before and went definitely recommend it it's a little difficult hard to find. Fast, delicious food with absolutely no frills and solid service. Menu is a bit confusing - most things are very cheap, but some things are oddly expensive. Coffee surprised me in particular. But overall the value here is very good. Onion rings are battered as opposed to breaded - definitely my favorite style. Mushroom cheeseburger was excellent. Sadly good ol 1/4lb Big Burger has really gone way downhill... The good first: Milkshakes are still excellent, the burger was still decent. The bad: the fries and onion rings literally had no salt on them. How do you pull a fried side like that from the frier without salting them? Sure, I can add salt, but everyone knows it doesn't stick right unless you do it right out of the frier. Additionally, the fries were soft. The burger had WAY too much mustard. Now for the worst part of all... The prices have jumped SUBSTANTIALLY. Literally the bacon cheeseburger special went up over 40%. I have been eating here for years, so I was shocked to hear my total. $15 for a bacon cheeseburger meal makes this place no longer the cheap hole in the wall. It's also not as good.
