Not gonna lie: first impression wasn't great. Run down strip malls aren't our thing, and then we discovered that Roz's is inside a pharmacy. But the "Yelpers" say it's awesome, so in we go. It's a small diner tucked to the left inside the front door of this wonderful ole-timey pharmacy. Seat yourself and order up. If you want to shop à la Cracker Barrel style, while you wait for your food, do it! Ms. Roz is doing her amazing cooking behind the counter. The food was delicious and the portions are so big, you can often share. We enjoyed our meal immensely and service was fast. There were 7 homemade cakes on the counter waiting for someone to order a slice! When you get to the east side of Richmond, come check out Roz's and then shop next door at the antique mall. Good times!!

Complete with black & white checkered tablecloths, cozy booths and tables, and a menu with all American favorites including homemade limeades... this is the perfect spot for lunch. I've had the egg salad, the grilled cheese, and the turkey sandwiches. The grilled cheese needs more cheese, it was a little skimpy, but the other sandwiches were good! The service is friendly! I love coming here for a bite after antiquing next door. The Colonial Pharmacy has a small gift shop, toiletries, medicines, and home health care items. I gave 3 stars because the restroom was pretty gross... that hallway and bathroom needs a facelift!

Our entrees were equally as tasty. I ordered the salmon and it was done well! My only personal preference would be to swap the green beans for the collards next time--the green beans just weren't cooked quite the way I prefer. That said, everything else was really enjoyable. Overall, a great meal at an equally great price. We were pleasantly surprised to walk out for under $65 without ordering drinks. Definitely felt like a great value, and we'd happily come back!

There is a huge empty booth right in the front across from the hostess stand, no one was sitting there, we asked if we could sit there for just a moment to cool off in the AC- we were rudely told no we had to wait outside. The next family in line included 2 elderly women and a baby all dressed gorgeous, they also were told they had to wait outside in 105 weather. After about 20 minutes of waiting, (I was just going to tell them to forget it) they said our table was ready. Well, instead of inside with AC as we requested we were seated in a gazebo porch area that they claimed had AC. By this time we were so desperate for cool, we didn't argue that we had requested INSIDE not whatever this room was. It ended up being like sitting in a tuna can. So uncomfortable, my husband and bro in law just went and sat in the car with the AC blasting. Waitress was sporadic to put it nicely. Meanwhile, back inside the booth across from the hostess stand was still empty. Food was fine. But I don't think this place will be around much longer.

We had the option of getting brunch or the regular lunch menu. I ordered the OG chicken sandwich and it was amazing. The chicken was full of flavor and juicy and I liked the sauce that came on it. The only complaint I had was the service. The server wasn't bad but he also wasn't good. It almost felt like he did not want to come to our table. He forgot to put in the order for one item that my table asked for. We had to flag him down to ask for refills or things like the check.

Their famous short rib egg rolls were a bit burned on the outside so a bit dry on the inside. They did have a very good sauce served with them that pretty well covered the flaws. We also got the sweet potato corn bread. It was tasty, but fell apart just a little too easily. I had to eat it with a fork. The risotto that came with my duck leaned a little too far to the mushy side. The duck itself was really good. My niece had the salmon, and she had no complaints. She said she had the leftover last night as a sandwich and that it was delicious. Service was excellent. No notes.

Indoors was great; they have cool AC for that hot day. Matthew who tended the bar also took care of us. He answered all our questions. Chicken and waffles were good. The chicken was crispy on the outside but tender in the inside. I enjoyed the pineapple upside down pancake. The sweetness was just right. The pancakes were fluffy and the pineapple was refreshing with cherries on top. Pork shoulder hash was good too. Enjoyed the food and experience here.

Bees and bugs were a little annoying but comes with the territory. Some fans on patio might help with that though. We ordered the chicken Cobb salad, the fish and chips and the ahi tuna plantain tostada. My mom loved her Cobb salad and my sister loved the fish and chips. I liked my order of tuna plantain tostadas for the flavor and creativity but the tuna wasn't the best cut because it had a lot of ligament in it which made it less appetizing unfortunately. Service was fast and friendly and it is handicap accessible for both inside and outside which was helpful for my mom but the chairs outside need some cushions. Parking lot fills up quick most days but there is street parking.

The food won't necessarily blow your socks off-- however it is consistently good, a lot of vegan/gluten free/etc options, lots of cocktail and beer options, and even the pickiest of eaters could find something they enjoy there. It's a very popular restaurant, so today, when we entered, while we were greeted right away, there was a 30 minute wait. The time actually went by relatively fast, and by the time we were seated, large cups of ice water were already there at our table, as well as a carafe to refill them. There's no physical menus, instead you scan a QR code which brings you to their menu. They have lots of drink options, including several specialty cocktails, beers, and ciders. Our waiter was super sweet and attentive, and the food came out relatively quickly. For my drink, I ordered a local cider from a Virginia ciderie, as well as the It's A Wrap, which has cheddar, ranch, mixed greens, tomatoes, onions, peppers, and your choice of protein (I got tofu). I also got a side of the Mac and cheese, which I could tell was made in house. Super creamy and flavorful with a hint of spice. My wrap was also insanely good! I'm impressed by the amount of vegetarian options here. Any burger can be made both gluten free or vegan, and the choices of protein make it more accessible for everyone who comes in. I'm really happy we were recommended this place!

For a Saturday night, the atmosphere was lively but not overwhelmingly so. It is a small space so I was very happy that there were still side tables available to sit at & enjoy our food & conversation. The staff were very welcoming, helpful & courteous. & although my husband were probably the most aged patrons in the place, we never felt out of place & I sincerely appreciated that we were able to go there & feel comfortable being a part of the Saturday night community. IYKYK As for the food. The Fried mushrooms were absolutely yummy. They were crunchy on the outside with a light & fluffy texture to the mushrooms inside. We ordered the Chicago Dog & the Sloppy Joe Dog & Black Lodge has the BEST hot dogs I have ever tasted! & believe me I have eaten a lot of hotdogs in my lifetime. Their hotdogs are juicy & full of flavor. My husband is still talking about their hotdogs a day later & how we have to go back again[this was his first visit]. For drinks we had the Jager-Rita, Miller High Life Pony & Green Tea shot. They all were great & complimented our food perfectly. The Green tea shot was so smooth, I definitely recommend trying it If shots are your forte & even if they are not. I am not a shot person but I really enjoyed this particular drink. I definitely recommend Black Lodge if you enjoy a very casual, laid back bar/cafe type of restaurant that has food & drinks that are very upscale but reasonably priced. Also, the atmosphere is very bright & bubbly. A perfect Saturday night hang out type of vibe. So once again I definitely highly recommend giving this establishment a try!
