Hubby and I dropped in for dinner during our recent visit to Victoria. It was 8pm on a Wednesday evening and it was really busy. We were still able to get a table. We had the Humboldt squid, lamb pappardelle and fried chicken. All the dishes were good but not outstanding. The fried chicken was my favourite; very crispy and the slaw complemented the dish well. Absolutely terrible service. If I could rate this spot 0 stars, I would. Very rude older male server was careless with table items and unfriendly, interrupted and cut me off while I was speaking saying "he didn't want to hear it". I can't imagine how such a person is able to be employed. The chicken burger was mediocre and the soup was atrocious and inedible. I would absolutely steer clear of this place if you desire industry standard service and delicious food. I can't begin to emphasize how rude the server was. He at no point asked us how our meal was and when I had to literally carry the soup over to him at another table even after making eye contact thinking he's coming only to being further ignored. I politely was explaining the soup was off, he cut me off and told us to leave! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!! The one nice server said "yes, he isn't taken well by customers and he is rude" well then owners, why would you let this individual continue to drive away customers in such an over the top way. No restaurant should ever treat a paying guest like that. He literally told me to stop talking when I subsequently complained about his terrible attitude and lack of customer service. Best place in Victoria for a drink and snack with friends. Friendly hosts, chatty servers, and great deals. From sushi to oysters, all their seafood is served fresh and with tons of options. My only issue is sometimes service can be slow, but it is a busy bar downtown and the drinks and food are more than worth the wait. read more

Stopped in for the Dine Around menu. Crispy calamari appetizer was spicy and sweet with fried sliced jalapenos and a nice dipping sauce. Entrees: fish and chips, seafood stew and shellfish steamer with frites were all good (although we realized when we got home that they forgot the frites). Two stars because our waitress was friendly. The food and drinks were pretty damn bad. This place bills itself as "farm to table". I would not want to be an animal, vegetable, or farmer on that farm. Specialty cocktails were ordinary and lacked alcohol. Mussels and clams were fresh, but lacked flavor and salt. Fish tacos were over-blackened, bland, and not half as good as those at the Temescal farmers' market (Oakland,CA). Pasta was "greasy and poorly presented" according to my 8 year-old. Saving grace of the meal? The exchange rate is really good and so the meal was not crazy expensive. Don't waste your money or insult your taste buds. Was visiting Victoria B.C. A few days ago and 10 Acres Commons was one of the more memorable places I ate at on my birthday trip. We were there in between lunch and dinner so we just snacked. I had a nice glass of Chardonnay (from Napa) along with a cheese platter. It was awesome to try some cheese from a different country and the platter was beautifully prepared. My companion ordered oysters on the half shell and they brought out 4 different toppers for his oysters. I'm not an oyster fan so can't give you my review on that but he must have loved them because he ordered a second platter! The weather was gorgeous and sitting outside was great. The only thing is sitting outside your subject to smokers walking by or standing near but this is NOT the restaurants fault. The topper of my time there was our waiter, Cam! He was so nice and accommodating. Cam's knowledge of all the wines were very impressive and we did a little 2 taste test on the Chardonnays. He was always smiling and just straight up beat and happy! He even was impressed with my creative ice bath for my 1/2 carafe of wine!! Thank you again Cam and I hope you enjoyed your 2 days off!!! read more

So disappointed in this restaurant. Poor service and poor food. We were four people. We only received 3 appetizers and had to remind the waiter for the fourth. We received only three dinners. One dinner was tortellini . We counted 7 tortellinis. Twenty minutes later our friend received a salad. The waiter told us there there was a miscommunication. The entree would arrive shortly. We went to this restaurant for the first (and last) time Wednesday & had possibly the worst service ever! The place was less than half full, but it took them over 20 minutes to get our appetizer to us. Our waitress, who never told us her name, cleared the dishes & said they were finishing up our burgers. 25 minutes later we finally got the burgers which were horribly overdone. We finished them & flagged down the waitress & asked for our check & she said ok & then disappeared!! We finally had to ask the hostess for our check & she got someone to take care of us. Terrible service. My husband and I were seated with menus. After taking a look at the menu we decided what we were going to order, a lamb burger with salad and a regular hamburger with fries. We closed our menus to indicated we were ready to order and proceed to wait for 20 minutes while waiters continued to walk past our table. After 20 minutes my husband and I were ready to get up and leave until a waiter at the other end of the floor noticed that we had not been served. He came by and asked if we had been served to which i replied "NO!". He apologized and took our order. When our food arrived the fries were unbelievably salty. As we were eating our meal we got live entertainment in the form of an employee of the restaurant encouraging a customer to dance on top of the bar. Atmosphere: With a casual yet chic atmosphere, this place offers a great dynamic for either going out for a few beers, or having a nice sit down dinner and a bottle of wine. Food: Very impressed. Not only was there a lot to choose from (tacos, jambalaya, burgers, sushi, salads and more), but it was delicious! I've been to The Commons a few times now and have never been let down with the food. Service: Service has been genuine and tentative. Managerial presence is especially above average. We had Matt greet us at the door, and check up on our table to make sure everything was good. WORST dining experience EVER. Restaurant was so loud we couldn't hear people at our own table. Pointed it out to manager who was very dismissive. One table was particularly loud, seemed they may have been "over served." Dinners around us also voicing frustration with noise level. Silverware kept in can on table not changed between seatings seemed very unsanitary. Waitress forgot one of our 5 entrees, other 4 dinners got cold waiting for fifth so we could eat together. We never saw waitress again after we pointed out forgotten entree. We had to flag someone down to ask for everything from salt and pepper to the bill. This was really good food. Went in wanting steak and was a little disappointed they only had it on the skewer platter, but so worth getting it! I did not leave disappointed after eating the food! My husband and I split the meat and cheese platter and the chicken and steak with hummus platter (don't remember what it was called). The drinks were strong and delicious! This is the place to go if you like being overcharged for very little food of a mediocre quality. The quality of the food is okay - nothing to get excited about and nothing to justify the prices. We are not big eaters but the six microscopic oysters and the squash salad consisting of a pile of sliced zucchini and very little flavor didn't exactly hit the spot. Lucky for me when I asked for bread - as if that were some exotic suggestion - they took 10 minutes to bring me a toasted stale baguette end for which they charged me $2. Beautiful patio in the summer! I went with my mom as a birthday treat. I found the portions to be small, but the commons had some of the best calamari I've ever tasted. My mom and I also ordered the seafood gratin, which was delicious but we kept having to ask for more bread! We asked twice for more bread, so they definitely need to plate more initially. Service was prompt however. Also, my raspberry basil lemonade was pretty bland for something with so many flavours in it. Overall, I'd still come back, but I want to try the other 10 acres restaurants as well. read more

It was recommended to by the concierge when asked for a good spot for seafood and vegetarians. This cool little spot was scrumptious, thoughtful and going to be on repeat. The menu offered variety without being cluttered. The Oceanwise offerings coupled with 10 acre farm's organic locally grown, seasonal produce made for a lovely meal. (Seafood platter and seasonal risotto) The pumpkin cheesecake was the cherry on top. But the real treat was the attentive and engaging host team. Would've given 3 stars, except for the way the manager handled a situation with our table. We were served spoiled oysters and told our server about it, she said she would let the manager know. Manager never approached our table to find out what was going on. When we received the bill, they had only partially discounted the dish (by 20% for a total of $3.50 on a check of over $400), because we had eaten some of the oysters. Nevermind, that we actually had had to spit those oysters that we supposedly ate (I know, gross. But not as gross as they sewage flavor of those things). This is the worst place to go to. The service was terrible. The wait for the food was too long. I ordered the chicken burger and didnt get the buns with it. Burgers are supposed to have buns right?! The chicken on the burger and tacos I ordered had too much seasoning and fried for too long. The chickens were brown almost black. I didn't get any lettuce and pico de gallo with my tacos even though on the menu it said explicitly that there was lettuce and pico de Gallo included with the taco. The place is amazing, looks very clean and hipster feel atmosphere. We accidentally visited here when we need to eat lunch, so 2 people ordered the mixed Spanish Plate, 1 fries and steak and got a 1 skewer plate. All of the food are amazing, steak is a bit pricy but its great. The Spanish plate was tasty, I tried it also and the skewer is also taste good which is like a Mediterranean type. Went on a Mon. afternoon after Imax. Loved the friendly knowledgeable staff and the comfortable seating and atmosphere. The sun came out and they are positioned to receive the most throughout the day. Had the Lamb burger and it was great!. Friends had Cobb salad and fish tacos and they were awesome as well. Locally grown food and environmentally aware business was nice to see. Our server was from the north of England, she was very good at her job. We went to Victoria for my birthday and although my wife wanted to experience several places we just had a great vibe walking by the Acres Commons....well the bottom line that is where we ate for the next three nights. The entire place is just perfect. If you want a fun music filled great bar scene with super food, or if you prefer a more mellow scene you can just hangout under the heat lamps and cheerfully supplied mini blankets if needed or just a great beautiful night under the stars during the warmer nights as well as a wonderful of the harbor and the Empress Hotel. Also if you want a truly beautiful and more traditional formal dining experience in the rear is the Kitchen which is yet another great place. Basically this is truly a the "GRAND SLAM" of eateries. Also the staff was exceptional. Our servers remembered us and even put a birthday candle in my Roasted Cauliflower Gruyere Dip which was so outrageously delicious, not to mention the 3 dozen oysters we managed to eat each night! Also if your a beer sophisticate you will for sure enjoy the great selection of the local BC brews and many more. Great place Great food Great Service Great Vibe.
