Amazing dinner. We have been served by Craig before and he's a wonderful server. We splurged - it being a special occasion - and had the 300 dollar shared meal. It was outstanding. It started with the most delicious mussels. Then on to crab legs - so many - with clarified butter. This would have been enough but we also got filet mignon, vegetables and potatoes! Everything was delicious (and there was plenty for another meal the next day!) We had an incredible evening - and we returned the next day for lunch. I have a pretty annoying allergy, but this restaurant always makes sure I'm safe. We usually get a window table which provides a breathtakingly beautiful view of Victoria's harbour. read more

The food is good, not spectacular. We shared the dinner for two. The view was great, restaurant ambience was nice and their chowder was phenomenal! At one point we were using the crab scissors wrong and he came to our table and said "let me show you how to use those properly, ripping them from my husband's hands." So rude, there were many other ways he could have approached that. The gentleman that served us was not friendly, he had a put off attitude we were even there. I also had a gift card for $200 that he was not pleased to take off our bill,. He had to enter a code and it took him, not kidding, 5x to do. First a shout out to a very nice local woman. We were on foot befuddled by the GPS direction. She directed us to the Blue Crab. We arrived during their Social serving, between lunch and dinner. What a beautiful restaurant with a great view. We chose to sit in the bar. Our server was knowledgeable and made great recommendations. The service was great. We came here on a Wednesday night and it was mostly empty. However, most of the seats next to the window facing the harbor were taken. They sat us on the upper layer of the restaurant, so we could still see the harbor somehow. It was beautiful with night lights. We ordered 1. West coast steamer pot for starter $25, 2. Lobster and Pacific prawn papardeli $41, 3. Chanterelle mushroom risotto $32, and 4. AAA 6oz tenderloin $55 (all prices in CAD). The steamer pot came first.. and while it's good, the seafood wasn't particular fresh or impressive, and the sauce was too savory/salty for me. After waiting for maybe 30 minutes for food, they finally came. My lobster and prawn pasta was good but again, the sauce was a bit too much. The amount of seafood given was also quite sad. The mushroom risotto wasn't cooked al dented, though the taste was fine and wasn't too salty like other dishes. The tenderloin was good, but I enjoyed the side veggies that came with it and the sweet sauce better than the steak itself. Overall it was just an alright and pricy dinner, so I think it's only worth it if you can get the seats next the window as the view was quite nice. This was the most expensive meal from our trip but I didn't think it was worth. read more

This is located inside the Coast hotel. The host was very friendly but our waiter seemed brief. The crab was good and I enjoyed the tools they have. The chicken was ok. Nothing to write home about. We also enjoyed a glass of wine which was pretty good. The view from the table was lovely and the ocean is always nice to see. The price was about $150 CA including tip. read more

Nice view of inner harbor. The crab was pricy, but that's what my wife wanted! She was happy and enjoyed the special shell-splitting scissors. It came with a side of lovely roasted veggies that I ate while she was occupied with the crustacean legs. I had the cod, which was nicely crusted and nestled on roasted fingerling potatoes and confit of something (sweet potato?). Beautiful on the plate and very tasty. The apple cake was delicious. We are staying next door at the Worldmark so we decided this was a great place for an appetizer and cocktail. We were right. We had a beautiful view of the harbor and our server (I didn't get her name) made sure we were well taken care of. I had a Bloody Mary, my husband had an old fashioned. Loved my drink but hubby's had a bit too much simple syrup. We shared a delicious shrimp cocktail with a blood orange cocktail sauce that had just the right amount of that wonderful citrus flavor. We returned for dinner when our first choice had no mussels (boo). I wasn't a huge fan of the red sauce, but they were still delicious. My husband loved the scallop crudo. It was fresh and looked beautiful. And for the first time ever, they brought me a finger bowl! We stopped by this morning for a quick breakfast because we knew a huge high tea was coming up. I had a big, flaky croissant and husband had a sausage and egg breakfast that looked amazing and must have tasted great because he cleaned his plate. So yum! read more

My husband and I had late dinner reservations so we needed a place to kill some time. We grabbed a glass of wine from the lounge at Blue Crab. You pay for the view. They have an enormous window that gives you a beautiful view of the ocean. While it was incredible, the price was steep. read more

Another one for the exclusive 5-star club. Located inside the APA hotel, it's a rather dim lighted place with an excellent view of the harbour. The view alone is worth dining here, but the food here puts it over the top. My family ordered the following: Crab Cakes - Excellent and they did not skimp out on the greens! Steamer Pot - About what you expect for a seafood medley. Broth was on the light side. Garlic toast was a nice touch. Calamari - VERY good. I now have a love for humboldt squid! Seafood Chowder - Interesting cream soup taste. The seafood was plentiful as well. Alaskan Snow Crab - Can never go wrong with it! Note that it's not predone at all, so you get the full authentic taste. Hopefully you know how to take it apart piece by piece. Service was excellent throughout, despite serving us 30 minutes later than our scheduled reservation. Well worth the wait though! read more

This is a MUST-TRY restaurant. Many painfully mistaken people on Yelp and Google Maps alike will say that this restaurant is overhyped, or that it is harboring and hiding hundreds of extremely small french soldiers. But the lips of those who tell and guard truth and integrity in the culinary world may remind you that many foolish Americans said the same of our beloved statue of liberty, whom hosted only 30 or so french soldiers, and they didn't even do that much! I can only await with bated breath the beautiful day that France finally recognizes Canada for its similar valor, and awards it a similar statue. The dishes I tried were the Lobster Pappardelle, The Romaine heart salad, and the Smash Cheeseburger. The first thing to note is the basic bread they brought with all seafood items. It was ludicrous. It drove me and my beloved band of trained mini-horses to near insanity, all of us fainting briefly upon trying the crispy, fluffy, decadent, buttery, garlic encrusted slices. The lobster pappardelle was a marriage of rich, tomato cream sauce, and fresh lobster and prawns. I like to imagine them all packed in an underwater club, with all the little critters dancing to barnacle songs, much like the beloved film, The Little Mermaid. Maybe instead of eating mindless creatures, relieved from a drab life by a merciful fisherman, I was eating happy shrimp, who died satisfied after a long night out. The Romaine Heart Salad was the most interesting blend of flavors of the night. It was sweet, piercingly tangy, and somehow so intense and nuanced that words escape me. The cheese was fresh, well held up, and complimentary to the crisp leaves of romaine. The Steamer Pot had a rich and amazing cioppeno base, and went amazingly with the mini-horse killing bread. The ambiance of the room was complicated. The weight staff was well intentioned but disorganized. they only gave us one napkin for a party of 17 mini horses and one human, and we needed to ask for utensils. When I cut the napkin into eighteenths, suddenly I was the bad guy??? You gave me the napkin, with a knife INSIDE it. Most mini-horses are not meat eaters, but they were difficult when asked about the vegan options. Upon asking for extra napkins, there was a steady stream of them, like a malfunctioning sushi conveyor belt, and by the end of the meal we couldn't even see the check under a sea of napkins. Poor information as to what to do to cover our parking, Fish and chips was awful, hard crispy breading, fish inconspicous by it's absense. I will not eat at this rsuaurant again. Too many good places to choose from. read more

Went on a date night on Sept 6 2021 and had a great night. We were seated right by the window overlooking the harbour. I would recommend ordering the hombolt calamari starter ... this was lightly covered with breadcrumbs, flavorful and not rubbery at all. For my main I had the beef tenderloin with lobster. The beef was so tender and perfectly cooked. Instead of lobster claw ... I think a tail would be better. Overall this place is a solid 4.5! read more

Why do people love this place so much? We go every time my inlaws are in town, because they stay at the Coast, and everytime I'm disappointed. The prices are insane and the food is mediocre. We had breakfast there last week and it was awful. My son had burnt pancakes, our eggs were over cooked and two of the meals were forgotten under the warmer while the rest of us ate. My potatoes were so salty they were inedible. The bill for 5 people was $140 and we had no alcohol.I emailed them and thecouldn't even be bothered to respond. My only guess is that they stay in business because of the hotel. . read more

We arrived in the afternoon. They weren't sure about where to out us and eventually to get us seat at a corner. We ordered local crab, salad, bread and wine. The crab was served after a table beside us who ordered after we placed the order. When we received the crab, the service stopped there. No one come over to us and asked for more such us cakes or coffee. They just left us without asking any more service, and not even came to our table to give us the bill. We literally had to get to the front desk to pay by ourselves. In general: Good food, but come with the poor service that doesn't match the price we pay for. read more

If the price demanded is the same as the menu offered. Our experience at Blue Crab last evening: The VIEW is wondrous. Watch the busy harbour: Seaplanes. Big Ferries, mini FERRIES. Boats. & more. It sparkles in the late afternoon sunshine. Located inside the Coast Hotel in James Bay, Blue Crab is an attractive comfortable restaurant. Complimentary underground parking, take lift up to lobby and restaurant. Arriving at our reservation time, no one at greeter station 'pls wait to be seated', we stood for several minutes. Given a 'windows on the world' table for four. Impressive. Wow factor views. Given a 'FRESH sheet', "specials of the day" menu. As we were catching up with 40 year friends, a very happy occasion, it was a great evening. We chose 48 dollar mains X 3 with the 'special' wine match, a local Chardonnay, @ 35 the bottle, as offered by the 'daily sheet' and confirmed by server. One 42 dollar main from the same 'daily sheet'. We pointed at the menu. He took the order. We opted for starters from the regular menu. Crab cakes really well executed dish 19 bucks for two little ones. A spicy aioli accompanied, as did a slaw. DELICIOUS. My fresh green salad 12 bucks also excellent. Toasted nuts. Fruity bits. Tasty balanced dressing. Generous portion. One of our party started with a chowder. Very good said he. 3 mains were the 'crabby halibut' daily special 48 bucks a pop. (HODGEPODGE said the menu) Luxury ingredients suggested. Topping of house special CRABmeat over the fish disappointed a little. no 'lumps', but wispy dry salty fibres suggestive of crab. 'Swimming in milk', as advertised. Wife's steelhead trout dish @ 42 bucks was one of the best mains she's ever had. Lightly deftly cooked. Moist delicious. (I know, she let me have a taste). Thumbs up. Service. As mentioned earlier, a tardy greeting / seating. Basic. Barely functional, not 'host of the year' stuff. No refilling of wine glasses. Ditto H2O. No one asked me whether "everything's all good ?" UNTIL he was clearing away the main plates, cryptically inquiring if he could get me a 'doggy bag' for my uneaten overcooked dry halibut! No thanks. IT'S OVERDONE. DON'T CARE TO EAT. The bill had no adjustment for the largely uneaten main. It included a 20 dollar OVERCHARGE for the clearly marked and confirmed by server (35 dollar 'matching' the halibut main dish), local Chardonnay which drank well for THAT price point. Inquiries at the pay station and requests to speak with a manager were brushed off. (NONE 'available') We paid as requested. Value? Starters excellent. 3 out of 4 mains ok. Wine good, then the 'over charge'. 70 bucks a head for the experience. Service as described. Rating in this forum? Is two a cruel rating? There were some fine moments. Is 3 stars too high? Can't call it a 4 / 5 , too many 'stumbles' for the 'fine dining' league. Tuff call. Can I ask the video referee? We took an average opinion of four diners arriving at 3.0. Blue Crab had terrible service. Two people arrived at 3pm, looking for drinks, appetizers and a meal. Order oysters and calamari for appetizers, took so long, decided not to order main course. The calamari was just warm, should hot out of deep fryer. So three beers, two wines and appetizers it took 1 hour 45 minutes. Might still be waiting for main course. Never going back. read more

Absolutely amazing! We are staying in Victoria for a work trip and selected this as one of our employee dinners. We had a pretty big group but this restaurant handled everything perfectly. They were professional and friendly and just overall absolutely amazing! One of us has a few food allergies and the server went out of his way to ensure that the dish was served correctly. I really appreciate his attention to detail. The truffle oil mushroom soup was very flavorful. Everyone that ordered it raved about it. I ordered the braised beef as my main dish and it was delicious... But I also really enjoyed the bloody Caesar Cocktail - the exact right amount of spice! I highly recommend this restaurant! We were the only people in for lunch and it took nearly 40 minutes to get food. I'm not sure why this place has such good reviews...the food is not good. We ordered the crab cakes, "burger of the month" which was tuna and fish and chips. The crab cakes were ok, they had a decent amount of crab but otherwise not a ton of flavor. They were accompanied by a "salad" that was half a plate of pickled fennel. The tuna burger was literally a dry ground tuna patty on some bread; nothing else. It was like eating prison food and the fact that we were starving when we got here made this a very disappointing experience. The fish and chips was a very small piece of fish with breading that was still mushy, served with some shredded cabbage; there was no flavor to the Cole slaw at all. We've had some great seafood so far in the island and we were very disappointed in our experience. Our waitress was very nice but the service was extremely slow even though we were some of the only people in the restaurant. Do not recommend. read more
