This place is cute! I appreciate the heritage feel. Fireside Grill has such a cozy, welcoming atmosphere, perfect for happy hour, lunch or dinner. The food is fresh and beautifully plated, and the service is warm and attentive. We came here during happy hour and had the Margherita pizza, prawn sushi roll and the gambas al ajillo. This place is gorgeous inside and out. It was a bit loud inside but that's just because it was packed with people. The server was wonderful. The food was so good. I got the Buddha bowl, and honestly no notes. It was probably the best bowl I've ever had. Lots of gluten free options. Will definitely come back. read more

We have been here many times over the years but most recently we took my MiL there for lunch. We had a margarita pizza, burger and I ordered a cup of soup and small Caesar salad. With an 18% tip the total was $100! The lunch was average - certainly not worth that steep a price though. We only had one Diet Coke - no alcohol. The most shocking part though was the cup of soup I ordered was $12. It was literally a very tiny cup. We all stared at the tiny size of it and laughed. Nice service and food was 'fine' but i think we won't be going back again. The pricing is unsustainable and the dining room is an echo chamber. read more

We have had reunions here many times. Great for large groups and equally as awesome for a quiet date night. The set menus are fun when available. And anything ordered off the menu is also very good. A highlight of my last visit was the desserts. Our table bought them all so we could try them all and they were all equally impressive. And the Pinot Noir offerings are exceptional!! read more

The food was pathetic. My burger was a pile of mush and had no flavour. The slice of tomato was so thin one could see through it. Three tiny peaces of onion. My friend ordered the baron of beef. Barely any meat on it. We found a few flecks of cheese and again, no flavour. The restaurant claims 'best good' online at their restaurant. The establishment is lovely but the food is awful. We have been coming her for many years. We will not be going back for a while nor will I recommend it as I have been. read more

Only been once so it's hard to judge. They're apparently quite famous for their prime rib, which I did not order. Service is quite friendly without being obsequious. It's pretty old school, catering to a decidedly blue hair demographic, although there were a couple of younger folks spotted there in a possible first date situation. Dark wood faux Tudor interior. The Caesar salad I had wasn't bad actually, although the grilled chicken on top was kind of dry. I gave it a 4 star as I believe a 5 star should be saved for a truly exceptional experience and beyond just an almost exquisite culinary experience. Having said that my spouse and I enjoyed our anniversary dinner at the Fireside Grill. I heard good things about the overall atmosphere, service/hospitality which has greatly improved over the years. But it always comes down to the quality, taste and presentation of the meals. For me anyway. In that regard we were well pleased. Perhaps we were slightly disappointed by the menu selection, though they do make pizza too if that's your thing. The alcohol and wine selections were good and at fair prices. I'd say that portion sizes were on the smaller side which is typical for the more specialty top-chef type prepared meals. We had the Iron steak and pork belly/scallops. I'd rate them highly though the light gravy on the steak seemed a bit bulk-prepared. At least that was the impression my wife had. The steak itself was grilled to perfection. I loved my scallops -- so very tender as was the pork belly done perfectly. We declined desert as we didn't like the combinations of flavour, at least on the current menu. The restaurant has a number of upper and lower seating areas, some rather hall-like. My overall impression was that this venue accommodates larger groups and as such, was a less intimate setting than I expected. We were seated by a gas fired fireplace which was rather cozy so that worked in our favour. Our server was courteous and friendly. Food was brought to us in a timely manner considering it was a busy weekend evening. Patrons at the nearby bar were quiet and respectful. Parking was tight but just adequate with overflow parking available. There was a handicap entrance as well. The value proposition was reasonable for this day and age but I'd save the bookings for special occasions myself. read more

Brought my wife and two teen boys here our first night staying in the Victoria area. The food is mediocre at best, with nothing gourmet or even high quality about the ingredients, preparation, presentation, or taste. There are pieces of our meal that we thought were good - the fries were fine, the bordelaise sauce on the 24-hour chuck was good, and my gin and tonic was fine - but the overall impression is one of a run-of-the-mill cook in the kitchen, and no chef works here. I wouldn't mind this if the prices were more pub-like, but the bill for the four of us was somewhere north of two-hundred and we didn't pay for the one dessert we ordered because there was a hair in the middle of my son's lasagna (which he otherwise said was pretty good). The patio was fine, and I cannot comment on the atmosphere inside because there was a wedding happening in the courtyard and they had the music needlessly turned up to Spinal Tap levels, making it impossible to eat inside without wearing earplugs. My husband and I consider ourselves respectful people we were turned away from the restaurant and told there was a better location for us on the bar side. Horrified by the treatment we will never be back. It was pure discrimination. We were wearing casual clothes but felt they were not nice enough , I guess. The restaurant side was almost empty. We are locals and eat out once a month its our dinner date. The waiter who went to seat us told us that we would be more comfortable on the bar side lounge side. It did not feel right. Definite, discrimination on their part. It's sad because it would have been a great date night place. It's beautiful inside the restaurant. Expensive. From start to finish, beautifully seasoned international food, outstanding service, and the wine were sensational. It was an incredible experience. We came as a group of ten, which happened to fall on their phenomenal Wine Wednesday and happy hour deal. How perfect is that? Their tasty menu is very international, offering high-quality steaks, prime rib, baby back ribs, sensational salads, colourful Asian Buddha bowls, and vegetarian options. We tried many different dishes from each menu section. Super tasty and seasoned on point! The staff were friendly and attentive and made us feel like we were regulars on our first visit. Booked a Celebration of Life in the upstairs Minstrel Gallery. Tim met with me ahead of time and showed me the room and went over details and answered all my questions.He ensured we had a screen set up in the room for a film presentation. This ended up being a rather crowded event with more coming than expected. Our main server JD and the other waitress who I did not catch her name, took incredible care of us. Could not have been easy for them managing all the drink orders but they did a great job. Food was laid out buffet style exactly as planned. We went to this place for the Sunday brunch and liked our experience for the most part. The selection of their buffet brunch was decent. The taste and presentation of the food and dessert were good. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated which some people might love, at least I loved it. As tourists in town and celebrating our first anniversary we were looking for a nice classy sit down dinner that would also be accommodating to my dietary restrictions. Everything in the city was booked so we found Fireside Grill and gave it a go. SO GOOD!! The environment of the old Tudor style hall is grand and feels fancy. The food is amazing. It's fresh, they have unique flavor combos, and they have gluten free pasta to substitute as needed! It was all so delicious, with good service, and friendly staff. The only recommendation I have is that they spruce up the bathroom. The fake flowers, cheap soap and warn dirt doors detract from the restaurant's ambiance. read more

I ordered a takeout burger and showed up at the exact time they said to, little wait after then, no problem. I go to check my burger after getting in my vehicle, little amount of fries, no problem. I go to take a bite of my burger, I notice the bun is soggy/ soaking wet, look in the burger, lukewarm beef, I taste a bit, the cheese is vile, a weird sweet savory with the super salted beef. The fries were insanely over salted as well, I was actually in disbelief. I'm pretty sure at this point someone purposely did this to the meal. I've never complained or written a review ever for a resturant. But I felt I should write something that might help guide others. I honestly hope this is a one off thing, and this doesn't happen to other customers, if that's not the case, I really hope this place gets shut down, I immediatly tossed the overpriced burger. I definitely would've gotten foodpoisoning from that lukewarm abomination. I make better burgers at home for way less. Just didn't feel like cooking that night so I ordered takeout. Beautifully decorated restaurant not too far from the Swartz- Bay ferry terminal. There is a decent selection of food in the menu and they have some lunch specials as well. Recently tried the calamari and the housemade beef send crab gratin burger. The sauce and mushrooms in the burger were really creamy and plump, but I didn't find the burger juicy enough and the ground meat in the burger was a bit too thick. The burger also came with some yam fries, which was tasty but a bit over salted so I would recommend to tell them to go light on the salt on the fries if you plan to order it. The calamari was perfectly fried and they had two sauces that came with it - I should definitely order this again. Overall a nice little stop on your trip to Victoria or to the island. read more

I recommend Fireside Grill. That's the takeaway for sure. I love the hilltop setting and the Tudor & heritage feel of the place. There are a couple of nice outdoor and indoor seating areas. Our food was mostly excellent. Our service as well. Nice wine list, well priced. Good variation of fresh and local menu items including island oysters, sockeye salmon and halibut, all of which we ordered and loved. The desserts were phenomenal! Truly. All of them. Additionally, the scallops and pork belly was probably the best dish our group of four ordered. The calamari, while cooked to perfection in terms of being tender, was battered in a way that got too greasy and fell off. Super dill sauce though. Our server was excellent. We sat outside near the fireplace, the environment of the seating area was perfect and not overly crowded. Prices are good for what you get. Same meal in the states would have costed us 20-40% more. The interior of the restaurant has a lot of charm whether you are sitting inside or outside in the courtyard. I went with 66 high school students and we had a set menu of burger with fries and pop. Don't worry! They sat us upstairs and away from the public. They were able to accommodate various diets. The burger was done very well considering there were so many of us. Arrived without a reservation and were seated upstairs overlooking the main dining area and their Christmas tree. Felt like we were in a fairytale. Seamus was our server and he was extremely helpful in explaining dishes and what was popular. The food was grand - full of flavour with depth and creativity. Beef short ribs were tender and moist with a crispy cauliflower and the salmon cooked perfectly. The menu is full of land and sea selections and a couple of nice offerings of vegetarian dishes as well. We shared the dessert for two which had two-bite sizes of two each of four of the desserts. Darrin was our server and he was Very Professional, Attentive and took great care of us. Thank you Darrin, you made our visit even better. From 3 to 5pm, they have House Red and White Wine, Sangria, Phillips Blue Buck for $5.00. They also have GREAT Appetizers: (Prices are approximate) $ 5 Truffle Fries $ 5 Flat Bread with a dip that changes every day. (Humus, Blue Cheese, etc) $8.50 Calamari The Best Value and the Best Calamari in Victoria. $5 Cheese Bread. (These are like small breadsticks with a dip) Their Patio is perfect in the afternoon, you can get Sun or Shade and the view is very nice. Update! The very next day after our visit... I did indeed get sick. I had actually forgotten about my Fireside meal with the "off" crab, so didn't understand my all-day nausea & dizziness! Not until the evening when nobody else in my fam was sick & it just occurred to me- food poisoning from the stinky-off tasting/looking crab eggs Benedict! Our party arrived with a reservation and we were seated upstairs overlooking the large open dining hall. The ambience is warm, quaint and full of character. The Tudor building was constructed in 1939 and many of the original details remain like the vaulted timber frame, leaded glass windows and oversize fireplace (hence the name!). It's a charming space and I imagine quite stunning at Christmastime. I see why this is a popular place with the older crowd. Service was professional and attentive. Most of us ordered from the 3-course tasting menu that changes seasonally. Smallish portions but well presented. A couple of people at the table were disappointed the cheesecake was deconstructed not a traditional graham crust. Food is comparable to Med Grill across the road (fine but not totally memorable).
