Food was just ok, not what I would have expected from a restaurant that claims to use only farm ingredients. Service was sub par, as waitress didn't stay engaged and made us wonder if she was ever coming back at times. As for the ambiance, they lost their identity. Of all the places we saw and ate, this was not a favourite. It seemed trendy, with a trendy menu and a great location, but the service was slow and it wasn't that clean, which you can see in my pic of the jar with the wording '40 turkeys and 30,000 free range eggs'. It casts doubt on everything. Moving on and eating elsewhere after, we realized that the prices were above average for what we ordered. Also, we didn't realize it was an 'appy place' and had hoped to order a dinner. What we ate was fine and seemed similar to options at other places, so it did not stand-out. Part of the issue is that we had expectations that weren't met. We must have looked unimpressed, because the manager approached at one point explaining that they had wound down 'happy hour' and so the servers were swamped, however that's not my problem when I'm hungry and want to eat at an establishment. Being in customer service, I expect that service at the start, middle and end of any delivery day be consistent and this just wasn't. They stole my money Never go there . They stole My money. They made a mistake on my bill and were supposed to cancel . But they never did and made me pay the new bill. I contacted them by phone and email with all my patience. They kept asking one question per email and took forever to reply. After a few months I'm still waiting to get my money back . They don't seem to take it seriously and it is serious since that restaurant stole a customers money . So never go go there. The Q Happy Hour group was at the Commons on February 21 for a monthly happy hour, and was served by Nikita, and her friendly coworkers. We were a large group of about 17, and she was a delight and didn't miss a beat on taking all of our complicated orders, and stayed on top of all our asks with a smile. Not a great experience. We went in during happy hour Friday, the place was not even half full. We started off by ordering drinks that took FOREVER (they are totally loosing $ by serving soooo slow). We ordered 1/2 dozen oysters that came with a few sauces that looked like everyone else had used before us....the containers were bigger than needed and messy. I could just tell that we weren't the first to "dip in". Ugh!! serving shell fish you have to be careful to start with so having they added risk of who knows what, was gross! Oh and no fish forks either. REVIEWER # 44 I stopped in here during vacationing in Victoria. I read that this place had good happy hour which caught my attention. I arrived a little over 4PM on a weekday and was greeted by the lovely staff. 10 Acres Common is the sister restaurant of 10 Acres Bistro and Bar, which I went to visit before coming here. I loved the atmosphere at 10 Acres Bistro Bar, but the food option here is better in my opinion because they offer more of a variety. This place serves a wonderful happy hour during the hours of 4PM-6PM and even offer a late night happy hour 10PM to close. I had a wonderful server named Katie and a lovely guy (totally forgot his name) but they were so helpful in assisting me in what appetizers to choose. Based off recommendations, I ordered the: -Tempura Ebi Roll ($12.50) -1/2 Oysters (half price during happy hour) and; White wine Everything was delicious! The tempura rolls were LIFE (you must order). They offer a generous happy hour menu and for each day they offer "specials". My favorite days to come would be: Tuesdays ($5 margaritas), Friday ($9 Champagne Cocktails) and Saturday ($8 classic martinis). Whatever you do, make sure that you order the 1/2 price oysters (totally delicious and worth the price). 10 Acres Common offers a lovely white wine and sparkling wine menu. The menu here is a little more expansive then there sister restaurant. Here they serve everything from tacos, curry plates, fish and chips, shrimp man and cheese, steak...a little bit of everything! The only con was when I received my receipt and noticed that although I came in for happy hour, they were charging me full price for the oysters that were actually supposed to be 1/2 prices. Luckily, I made sure to check in with the more experienced staff that seemed like they have been working for a while, and fortunately they agreed with me and made the change to my bill. Make sure you check your receipt! Overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Victoria. It's one of my favorite places for happy hour! read more

I've read a few comments about this place and, since it was near my hotel, decided to try it. We arrived early enough to get an ok table by the corner inside, by the window. The noise was pretty muffled where we sat plus the majority of patrons decided to enjoy the mugginess weather outside. We ordered the 2 piece fish and chips; the skewer platter with sirloin steak, chicken breast, raita - olives, hummus and naan bread; seafood arrabiata; and pan roasted salmon salad. Everything was confirmed delicious by me and the company I ate with. If you're used to eating small meals, the skewer platter and salmon were fantastic. The pasta had fresh selfish, which was very good. The halibut for the fish and chips wasn't as flaky as a cod fish but it was tasty. It was a bit thick. Overall, this place is a great place to get a bite to eat but I would suggest to come early. Once you come after 7:30p or so it starts to fill up. The place usually has music at around 8p so you may want to come before the musical hour for a bite to eat. read more

Heard great things about this establishment so as I am in town for three month's I thought we'd check it out. Waited at the door for I'd estimate 3 to 5 minutes with multiple servers walking past, another 2 groups of two behind us, Restaurant was NOT busy, finally someone came to ask if we'd been helped (obviously not) I said no, another 2 to 3 minutes before someone came back to seat us in a very curt and unpleasant manner. Easily ten minutes of being seated, server(s) walking by us as well as someone whom I assumed was a manager without a single recognition that we were even there. Went for an early dinner a few days ago (6:30) to celebrate two friends' birthdays -- a total of nine of us. Because of the group size we were charged an automatic 20% gratuity: the service was average (and slow). The atmosphere was more Sports Bar and the loud "background" music made conversation very difficult. I had a half rack of ribs with sides of cole slaw and french fries. The ribs and slaw were good enough but the fries were mostly small and overcooked -- likely the last of the batch. My wife's calamari didn't seem fresh; her sushi was good. Great location, yummy food, good ambiance. We dined here on a Tuesday evening and had to wait just 5 minutes for a table. It was crowded and a little loud but that just added to the ambience of the place. We got a pitcher of Margarita and it hit the spot. Service was a little slow but it could be because it was so crowded. Food: we ordered the tempura roll to start off with. It was good. I got the Fish and Chips with halibut. Which was cooked well. My husband got the lamb burger which he absolutely loved. I loved the flavors too. He got it with a side of Yam fries and Caesar salad. The Yam fries are to die for. We went against our instincts in search of oysters and landed here. It is in the middle of the most touristy part of the city. The oysters were pretty good and those alone would bump my rating up to 4 stars. The burger was over cooked, dry, and the sauce was not complimentary of the meat, and not good in and of itself. The best part of that burger was the bun. The sushi platter was so-so, nothing to seek out. P's beer was disappointing. We agreed this has been our only disappointing food experience in Victoria. Ironically it was by far the most expensive one, too, despite happy hour prices! Go for the oysters, go somewhere else for the rest of your meal. The view from the patio is great; however, they've packed so many tables into the patio that you can barely move without bumping chairs. I really wanted Fish & Chips while in Victoria, and I resorted to coming here after discovering that Fisherman's Wharf was entirely closed at 5pm in November, and my only evening option was going to be restaurants in town. I was further disappointed that I couldn't get halibut, but the cod was available. The crispy coating was good but very greasy. Either the fish wasn't fried at the right temperature to prevent oil absorption or not drained long enough or both. The fries were nothing exceptional, and the coleslaw was creamy but didn't have much flavor, so I didn't bother to eat it. 10 Acres Commons does have great daily food and drink specials. I indulged in a couple of margaritas for $5 CAD. It also has a nice big bar and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. read more

10 Acres is a little bit confusing in that it's essentially three restaurants in one. There's 10 Acres Commons, right in front, overlooking the harbor, great place for cocktails, wine and beer with oysters and a "bar food" type menu. Then, there's 10 Acres Bistro in the far back, with a more casual menu, and 10 Acres Kitchen right behind the Commons, with a farm-to-table Northwest cuisine type menu. The Commons has a great happy hour - 1/2 price oysters, and other various daily specials. On Monday, it was prosecco - $6/glass or $30/bottle. We were celebrating our anniversary and had a double oysters and bottle of prosecco, and it was absolutely wonderful. read more

We tried to get in on this past Saturday afternoon, but it was packed. Decided to return on Sunday afternoon after a whale watching excursion. Arrived about 4:40pm. The hostess mentioned that were in time for Happy Hour pricing and seated us with the Happy Hour menus after a ten minute wait. The place appeared to have plenty of seating available. We sat for 15 minutes at our outside table before a server greeted us. We placed our order and asked if the Happy Hour pricing was still in effect. She checked in with her "manager" who said that since our order had been placed after the 5:00pm Happy Hour, our order did not qualify for Happy Hour pricing. She apologized for arriving on her shift at 5:00 and not getting to us earlier. We ended up paying nearly double the HH menu pricing. Very disappointing. Not the server's fault. Apparently, the manager had other priorities than taking care of us. We'll not return. read more

I enjoyed the whole concept behind 10 acres and the back of the menu makes good reading. The servers are vibey, pleasant and clearly happy to be working there. My honest opinion is the food is not up to the decor or the service. It's not bad, it's just not 5 star. I had the baked oyster, calamari and they never really appealed too much to me and my wife. I did enjoy the prawn tempura. My wife said I am too generous in giving 4 stars and should give 3. She says she would return there for drinks but not food. She says the food is over fried. So my advice is 10 Acres you have a good idea, good concepts about the farm etc but sort out the food. It's not up to the hype or your service. read more

Tourist trap. Lots of hype about farm to table. Well I think the problem is the items sitting in a hot pickup bed until it gets to table. Poor experience. No greeter at podium for 5 mins. Glasses with lip prints and kids wouldn't drink the out of them. No order for 15 mins. Premium Kushi oysters with bad "I'm not fresh taste and not sweet". The oysters came with no sauce but then sauce brought in a unchilled tote basket with open uncovered on table to table containers which is not hygienic but only 3 of 4 sauces had a spoon at all. Ceviche was cheap stuff small but ok. Warm Beer in unchilled pint glasses. Self serve silverware at table with only 3 napkins for seating of 4. The Lamb burger cooked well done and hard. Fries were good. After eating no server for 10 mins then they came and manager glaring at server. Now different server because the credit card machine out of paper. Sent her to get another machine and now he is clearing pile of dishes that have been there 15 mins. Terrible. I left $5. My wife feels I ripped them off. Now we are even. I won't be back. Excellent food, lively atmosphere, comfortable seating, great customer service & fair prices... what more can you ask for in a restaurant? Husband and I came here just after 5pm on a Wednesday with our 1.5yo. I don't think they have high chairs but I didnt event ask because the booth we were given was sufficient for us. Hubby ordered a local beer on tap and said it was delish. We then proceeded to order the ceviche (very good), prawn rolls (average), clam chowder (tasty), calamari (yummy and generous portion) & B.C. Oysters which hubby also said was excellent! Would highly reccomend this place if ur looking for a great variety of tasty, fresh food. Everything we got we shared and we left more than satisfied! It's close to all the hustle and bustle of Downtown Victoria. We spent about $80.00 total with tax and tip... and I would say, worth every penny! read more

We arrived at 10 acres because we were hungry... and boom & batten couldn't fit us in. It is with great dismay that our second alternative offered an unacceptable experience. I am about to shyt all over this joint, and I'll let you in on a lil secret... it's partially due to the food poisoning I received from eating here. One may deduce that getting a salad with confit tuna that the salad may be a bit more elevated than a McDonald's salad; it wasn't. The flavor profile was lack luster, but the cherry on top was the rotten tuna they tried to pass off. It was slimy. Tasted wrong. And instantly came back up for some . My server was so awkward and timid it was impossible to even speak to her on this matter, the poor girl would crumble and never come out of her home again- so I left her alone. It was also my friend's birthday, she doesn't really drink and so I ordered her a muff diver to be a little bit cheeky... boy did that backfire when they decided to put vodka and hot sauce in the shot instead of Baileys. On what planet sir. So fast forward to my aggravating conversation with the manager, Jimmy. This SoCal laid back douche bag may very well be one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. He didn't seem to care much about anything. And when we explained to him about the shot my friend spit back out his response was "oh I put tequila in them". Like sir you don't get to pick the recipe here, if I ordered a vodka soda are you going to give me a tequila sunrise? No. It was fun but strange to have to defend why a recipe should be what you ordered. It is understandable that sometimes a restaurant is having an off day and the food is bad or the manager is rude, but food poisoning from seafood that was poorly handled is a hard no for me. All in all 10 acres seems to be promising with their beautiful location, inviting interior design, and uhm I can't think of a third good thing to say about it. My new favorite in Victoria! We made a night of it! There were four of us and we sat at the bar. We had fantastic service from some really nice and fun people! They have Oysters on happy hour, and their happy hour sushi platter is also so amazing! We also had a delicious ceviche, and later in the evening had steak and lamb meatballs. I was too busy eating so I forgot to take pics. Oops! This place is conveniently located in the Inner Harbour across from the Empress. Great service. Happened to stumbled upon it on the way back to the Royal Museum. Sat outside in their enclosed sidewalk dining area. Our server was very accommodating and great conversationalist. Hit it off with my husband about fishing. They traded some secrets as we are from out of town. I had the spicy tuna roll, my husband had the chicken sandwich and we shared the farm salad. Everything was spectacular and reasonably priced for fresh, farm ingredients. Even the iced tea was excellent (and cutely served in a mason jar - nice touch). The restaurant has a great location, on a corner facing both historic Victoria buildings and the waterfront. And the interior, with high ceilings, brass railings, and a clean casual look, is great. The outdoor patio is a great place to sit on a beautiful day. The bar has daily specials and a happy hour daily, and I had their tacos and a margarita. Delicious. Food here is farm to table and they have an extensive menu, with many great options. You will find something you like, I'm pretty sure. However WAY too much chutney and pickled onions, it was vinegar-overpowering. I ate most of it but ran out of willpower for the last 2 bites. Husbands chicken burger was over-fried too dark. Fries were ok but not amazing. Mediocre Service. seemed no one employee was responsible for our table, and their system of "every waiter does every table" isn't working well.
