I would be careful with this place. I went here on recommendations that their pricing was the best. I printed out their discount coupon online. When I got there I made the mistake of presenting the coupon before I got the price. Their estimate form has preprinted values except for the base price. I was amazed to find that instead of the approximately $62 that others advertise they estimated $95, discounted $20. and I ended up paying $10 more than elsewhere. We brought our truck in there this weekend and told them we forgot our valpack coupon but they said they would honor the price. Ended up charging my husband $93 out the door when the coupon was for $27. When we called to inquire about the huge price difference they said sorry, that's our posted rate. I just called to get a quote for a smog check and when I called the man over the phone didn't even give a polite greeting, no company name, no first name of the person I was talking to... Nothing! After I stated why I was calling he said that a smog would be "$92.50 for a 02 Envoy. But that if I made a appt with him it would be the discounted appt rate of 49.99" now seeing that noone should ever pay more then $50 for a smog check... ever!! I asked if that was with the $20.00 coupon I had and his response was (in a very demeaning manner, as if I were a child who wanted candy but didn't do their chores) "you asked what the price would be for a smog check after the coupon, so I told you... $92.50 if you don't make an appt and the discounted appt rate is $49.99" I informed him that he didn't need to speak to me in such a way. The waiting room was super clean. This was my first time having a SMOG test. The staff explained the details of either registering the vehicle via the mail or online and suggested I wait a few hours for the certificate to electronically be recognized by the DMV. read more

After having an overly terrible experience at Cheap Smog, I went to 101 Express Smog. I honestly should have gone here first. Greeted upon arrival, I filled out my paperwork, within 10 minutes they pulled my car into the shop. I waited another 10 in their quiet lobby. Done. It's worth the little extra in pricing. Great customer service means everything. I was in an awful mood when I drove in and I was completely turned around by the time I left. i made an appt. this morning for this morning and was done and out of there in 20 minutes. The staff were courteous , efficient and on-the-ball. I'm very satisfied and would have given them 5 stars if they hadn't charged me an extra $20 because I had a Nissan Frontier P/U truck---never been charged this before and was suprised by it. But, since I didn't get a quote when I made the appointment on the phone, I really can't complain. The bill was still $10 less than I paid somewhere else two years ago. I would recommend this shop to anyone looking for an inexpensive and efficient place to get their biannual smog. And they have a very friendly shop dog. In less than fifteen minutes my vehicle had passed the smog test, had been paid for, paperwork had been submitted to the DMV, and I was happily on my way home. My experience here was great. I got a quote over the phone and when I arrived they whisked my car right in. David was polite and efficient, not like the other 2 smog places I scoped out before finding 101 Express. I was charged $40 out the door, just as quoted, which included the certificate. I was aware that if it needed a retest it would be more, but that is common practice. Many places charge more (up to $70) which includes a free retest upon fail. DO NOT get your vehicle smogged here!!!! I have an aftermarket intake which didn't have the CA sticker of admissions. Knowing that my truck wouldn't pass, they still went ahead and did the smog test and charged me. They told me I needed to get the sticker so I contacted the company and got one. I went back to get my truck passed and they told me I must re-do the entire smog and they'd charge me again. I thought this was rediculous because the first time I went in there they could've easily looked under the hood and saw it didn't have the necessary sticker. It's EASILY visible that the sticker wasn't present. I would not recommend this place to anyone! They are unprofrofessional and ripped me off!!!! All could have been prevented if they took one simple step. read more

I got a Smog Check this past weekend. Service was great and loved seeing a woman out there doing her thing, but i had one problem once I got home (3 blocks down). My check engine light illuminated. My car (07 Jetta) was running fine and there appeared to be no obvious problems, but on the following business day, I called off work to take my car in for a diagnostic test to see what was wrong. It turns out that,indeed nothing was wrong with my vehicle and the mechanic stated that after getting my smog test, the smog system/computer triggered the engine light code to come on. $50 down the drain!!! Soon after, i drove to 101 Express Smog and explained what happened. They initially denied that their system could have caused that but would still not compensate me for getting a diagnostic/taking off work/etc. A few days later, they allowed for me to retake the smog test to see if i would experience the same problems. As expected, it did not light up initially until a week later. They have a great business and a friendly staff, but just wanted to post my experience, in case it happens to anyone else. read more

I printed out the valpak coupon for $31.70 smog +$8.25 cert, called them to confirm the price and that my vehicle was not subject to any additional fees, and that they could take me right away, and then drove over. They took my car right away, I was out of there in 15 minutes and only $39.95, which is $10-40 cheaper than the competition. Both technicians were very polite and pleasant. Went here for a smog test today and the guys were great. I called in advance for a price... then called back after I'd found an online coupon for $20 off. The man on the phone explained that I'd still get the same price he'd quoted earlier... Something weird about online coupons being just for the walk-in price. So, for that misleading coupon deal, i give 4 rather than 5 stars. But regardless, I'd googled and called around and, for my particular vehicle- and the need for a test only or gold shield station, this place was literally half the price of anything else offered in Sonoma county. I left happy that my old car had passed, that they'd taken me immediately, provided an air-conditioned waiting room with a view of what was being done in the garage, and were pretty quick- less than 30 minutes. Got a coupon in the mail. Made appt. saying I had a Jeep. They open at 9am, not 8am like the coupon says. Was told 20.00 more for a Jeep, Truck or SUV ( which is half of all cars out there). Nothing was said to me over the phone about an extra charge, nothing on the coupon. This made them the most expensive not the best deal in town like the coupon said. I also called 3 other smog places and they did not charge extra for my jeep. If your looking for a deal and have a truck, jeep or suv, look elsewhere. I read the other posts and was a bit concerned but decided to try them. Called ahead and got an appointment easily for the next day. Went in and it was done in a few minutes and no issues at all. Chris was the person who helped us and he was very pleasant and efficient. I had called for the appointment so was told it would cost $39.95. I asked when I was there what the cost was if there were no appointment and got a very weird answer. I had such a good experience I decided to write my first Yelp review and am surprised to read the 1-star slams. This is my second year in a row going to 101 Express and both times very satisfied. I called and got a very good quote and made an appointment for later the same day. Arrived at appointed time, hung out in the quiet waiting room, and 15-20 minutes later I'm done. My older car passed even though the timing marks were quite worn and hard to read. Dave suggested I have my mechanic mark the crankcase so the marks are clear. Technically, a car can be failed for this. Very happy with the service and price and will return next year. read more

Horrible place! With my $20 off coupon it still came to $64, but that's not the worst part. My vehicle failed smog but it was based on a visual check because my AIRRAID air filter didn't have a CA state sticker. They still charged me 64 even though they knew ahead of time that it wouldn't pass! Not a good way to due business. Never go there. read more
