Very poor experience. I came here for my birthday to get my nails done and left very disappointed. The whole process was very rushed and there was little to no communication. I asked for dip with cat eye on top. They couldn't figure out the cat eye effect so they just put a line which I think was lazy and doesn't look good. My friend and I wanted to get our nails done as we were having a girls day in Encinitas. The place we had made a reservation at canceled on us so we were looking for another option, and walked past 101 Nail Lounge. The staff said they room for a double mani pedi. They took both me and my friend, they sat me in a chair next to hers while they started on her pedicure. Then they turned on some like-warm water and told me to put my feet in. They left me there for thirty minutes as the water grew cold. I wondered if they were hazing me. The lady finally came over to me and then proceeded to peel the skin off of one of my toes, which hurt quite badly! I looked down at said toe, and noticed my unpolished toenail was now bright red! Not with polish, but my own blood. After she bashed my feet with a brush for a while and continued torturing my toe, she finally gave me the most half-hearted gel pedicure I've ever had. After a like an hour and a half she was done, I stood up and picked up my purse so I could walk to the nail station, and two of the women jumped up, insisting that I pay immediately as if they thought I was going to leave without paying. After this insult I continued to coerce myself into remaining at this establishment, with hope still remaining in my heart. I showed the woman doing my nails a picture of my desired French tip, almond shaped nail and did did a decent job of painting, but left the nails only half attached to my actual nail, with huge air bubbles as though I had glued on a cheap press on. Gorgeous, LONG lasting gel manicures here! Great vibe. Everyone is really sweet. Tim is my favorite. Appointment is fast, and my nails grow super long after one of his gel manicures. I also have very tight fingers/hands/wrists and Tim never gets frustrated with me. I got a gel x manicure here (took about an hour) and spent $70. The following day - 7 of the nails POPPED OFF. I immedaitely sent them photos and asked to speak to someone because this was such a waste of time and money! I had to drive to Arizona for Thanksgiving the next day, so I wasn't able to come back into the shop to get them fixed (nor did I have the time because I have a baby with no child care). Long story short, the owner refused to give me a refund of my money and said I had to come back to get them fixed. Later that week, part of my nail bed literally PEELED OFF. It is extremely sore.... so I do not feel comfortable coming back to a place that damaged my nails and clearly isn't doing the proper protocols :( I never write reviews but I was extremely disappointed with the service and the professialism from the owner who should have made this right by refunding me but did not. PSA I have never written a bad review in my life. I've been looking for a nail salon in CA, as I'm from Arizona. I searched and was willing to drive the 35 mins to this nail salon based off their FB page! I got a dip manicure at 10:00 on a Friday, and three of my nails cracked by 6:00 that night. I've been getting dip for almost a year at home, and this has never happened! My nail tech also managed to make both my pinky fingers bleed from the dremel. I called and booked an appt to fix them. I told them the color I had on and they insisted it was a different color. Turns out I was right and now three of my nails don't match. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE went in for an expensive ex gel manicure. The nail technician had a very dry affect to start, giving off the impression that she was not happy to be there. No eye contact, no "hi how are you". It was "what do u want" to start. I explained: gel x nail, baby boomer and showed a picture. She said something like "we can't do that baby boomer effect with gel" which I know is not true as I had that same thing done at a different salon before. But I went along with it and chose another plain color gel. It was like she was the customer not me. She started by filing down my previous gel x nails. She was WAY TOO ROUGH and didn't move the electric file around enough so it generated excessive heat and in turn a lot of pain to my nail bed (it's physics kinetic energy dissipating into heat onto my very thin nail bed). I told her "be careful please it's hurting my natural nail is very thin" "ouch!" She groaned something and continued to do the same terrible job. After all the previous gelx was gone she then changed the electric filer bit and started getting really close to my cuticles, no cuticle softner, no cuticle pusher. I asked about what her plan was for the cuticles which clearly needed to be taken care of. The response took me by surprise, she was extremely rude about it! then went on an unintelligible rant about how I was stopping her from working and if I stopped asking questions she would be able to work more quickly! I said "I have the right to ask however many questions I want about a service that I am paying for. It appears that you are frustrated and so am I" Absolutely ridiculous. at this point I almost got up and left but decided to take a deep breath. After my previous gelx was almost all filed down she had me soak my hands in acetone then filed again. Again, very roughly and unapologetic about it as I continued to express that it was causing me pain. This particular nail technician had no domain of the English language and had an extremely thick accent, that combined with poor vocabulary and incorrect grammar made it extremely difficult for me to understand what she was saying. I would prompt her to repeat what she said, and let her know when I didn't understand what she was saying. She would sigh loudly and then start talking in Vietnamese to her co workers. I presumed with almost certainty that she was bad-mouthing me. SO UNPROFESSIONAL! A fiasco! We proceed....as I was already too far into the service and didn't have time to go to another salon that particular day and needed my nails to look done. She then glued the new gel x nails, used EXCESSIVE amounts of nail glue which then overflowed on the edges and glued onto my skin. The attitude on this technician was very unfortunate! It's totally okay to be a foreigner and have a very thick accent and have incorrect grammar...what is NOT okay is to get mad when people ask for clarification or repitition. Especially when you are dealing with paying customers. I am never coming back to this shitty salon with shitty customer service I hope they bankrupt and learn a lesson. They should get out of this business altogether. The result of my manicure was mediocre at best!Her demeanor extremely off putting and unpleasant. And it cost me 73$ read more

Extremely mediocre pedicure by Danny. Took him less than 15 minutes. Barely touched my cuticles or my calves with his massage. Left dead raised skin on top of my toes. Came at my foot so hard with the sander you would have thought he was going to sand some wood! He scraped off the skin on the edge of my little toe, and it bled for the rest of the pedicure. The woman at the front desk came over and cut the skin off my toes after I expressed my displeasure, which he should have done in the first place. I got a bunch of excuses, and he told me he did things that he didn't do and said I just didn't see it.......I didn't feel it either! Then she charged me $30 for the whole thing!! Unbelievable....not even a discount for injuring me!! Or an apology for sanding the tip of my toe off!! Unreal. So now I get to wear a bandaid on my little toe to cover my new, expensive polish with my summer sandals. My daughter wanted Acrylic nails as part of her middle school graduation gift and had a very specific look in mind. We called and scheduled an appointment on a Tuesday around 2:30 and they were able to get us in at 4. This was a few days after nail salons opened back up, so everyone was pretty much booked out at least a few days. Needless to say, we were pleasantly surprised that they were able to accommodate us with short notice. Upon arrival, we noticed that there were quite a few people packed in to this fairly small space. We stood outside for at least 10 minutes not sure if or when we should enter. Once inside, we were shuffled around a bit. With all of the new acrylic shields , it felt even smaller than usual. I got a basic pedicure while my daughter got a full set of acrylics. Even though one of her nails was a bit crooked , she was happy . I was grateful to have the service available again, and I thought they did a pretty good job considering the circumstances. Overall, we were happy with our experience, and we would return. It was a little chaotic but that was mostly due to high demand and new safety protocols post quarantine. read more

I made sure to call ahead asking if I needed an appointment before I began walking the 5 blocks to get there. Lucky me! The gal who answered what I'd like done- gel pedi. I walked down to a more spacious salon- bright inside and there were plenty of nail techs working on manicures. I signed my name in & was directed to an end chair. Thank goodness there was a huge tv on (Dr Phil was the man of the hour). Volume was down & captions were on display. I picked my gel color & my tech was very gentle. I normally pumice my feet before going to a salon, but, this was an unexpected visit. She removed cuticles w/ a tool I've never paid attention to before & at first I was nervous that she'd poke me w/ it. Not once. lol During the gel color phase, the lamp bumped into the big toe on my left foot. And she corrected the issue by redoing it. I received a lotion & oil massage on both legs & feet after my paint was dry. I put on my ballet flats when my service was complete. There's an atm located inside this nail salon- which I've never seen before. Very accommodating. Didn't use it, so I don't know what the service charge for it is. What I did notice later in the evening when I got home- the red gel polish on my pinky toe was removed. lol At least it's my pinky toe & I have red polish hanging around the house somewhere. read more

My favorite local spot for Mani/pedi. been coming since they opened. The group of employees is always friendly and nearly always ready to take on new orders walk-in clients. I make appts somewhere between 1 hour & 24 hours in advance as sometimes they can get busy. I prefer to do gel on my nails and can say that the staffs removal of gel is gentle and caring (I have very sensitive nail beds). I also appreciate how thorough they are when doing nails; they do it right the first time and my gel lasts 12-17 days dependent on my work. I am a florist and have my hands in water and Art often and the gel holds up. other places it only lasts 7-9 days. if you pay cash you get a few dollars off. if you are a walk in, it's not normally more than 15-30min wait. i know most of the techs by name and know about their kareoke, kids or neighbors. it's a welcoming place. I've been going to this nail place for 4+ years now and would never go anywhere else. The nail technicians are fun and talkative and the receptionist is really sweet. It's not like a typical nail salon experience because they really make you feel welcomed and if you're a regular they'll remember you and what's going on in your life. I've yet to have a bad experience here after getting a regular manicure, gel, paraphin wax, pedicure, and acrylics. Each and every technician is great and I have no preference of who I go to for any service. The acrylic fills typically take about 1-1 1/2 hours depending on what type of polish or design you get. They are very intricate when it comes to shape and design and ensure that your nails are the thickness, length, and shape that you ask for. I've tried the princess dust, fairy dust, and holographic dust from here and they all last until your next fill. They are capable of executing any design you ask for as long as you let them know in advance over the phone and I've had amazing designs done on my acrylics over the years. They also can do fun ribbons in many different colors for the holidays. The pedicure service is very relaxing, especially with their new renovations and brand new massage chairs/bowls. My favorite pedicure is the Aroma pedicure because I love florals and they add in lots of floral scents in the water and in the lotion they use for your massage. I've yet to have a painful experience during a pedicure because they're careful with the tools and the massages they give really ease your tension in your feet and legs. Overall, this place deserves full stars and lots of recognition. 101 Nail Lounge is a place I trust and somewhere I'd recommend for anyone who wants their nails done in the area. The man that did my polish change asked if I wanted to cut my nails I said yes, but only a little. He chopped off all of my nails. Some are so short that they hurt! I go here all the time and I am so disappointed with the recent manicure I got. I normally get my acrylics here and right now I am taking a break and just getting gel manicures. This time I tried dip powder and 3 days after getting this manicure the top layer of the gel is peeling off and the powdery layer underneath is showing. It looks absolutely terrible. I noticed the girl doing it wasn't comfortable with doing dip powder, and I wonder if she made a mistake. Even right after the manicure she had left black spots on other parts of my hands. Within 24 hours, my nails started bumbling and peeling off. It was a mess. I am still trying to fix them. My nails were strong after a year of no gel or polish. The man who did them was very rushed and clearly not focused. He literally ruined my nails in one go. I think there are staff there who are qualified but sadly the man with a blonde buzz and mini bun isn't so careful or caring.
