We went here the night of prom a few days ago. First of all, the waiter dumped a pool of oil on my friends dress. He held the plate super high off the table over her head and reached over her. The oil spilled everywhere on the table, including her phone, splattering and ruining her dress. IT WAS A PROM DRESS that cost more that $100. Completely unprofessional. Didn't help clean up the mess either. She was only compensated when we complained and there was hardly an apology. Never coming back again. The food was not worth the long wait either. What a perfect addition to State Street, especially in a sweet spot one block from the Overture Center. The chicken Marsala was delicious as was the Pappardelle. We shared a starter of Crostini with roasted mushrooms that was so good it suggested licking the plate clean. Service was attentive and friendly. I have a suggestion. Please add a starter salad of lovely baby greens in addition to the wedge salad and the Ceasar. Make it sizeable so that it can be shared. We will be back! read more

My friend and I went to 107 State for a girls night out. First impressions were great. The ambiance was great and it's a beautiful place inside. We ordered the salmon with asparagus and the steak with fries. Both were generous portions. The steak wasn't the best I've ever had, but was definitely solid and the fries were to die for! The service is the reason for the low rating. We sat at our table for over 20 min with no server coming to our table although several staff walked by us. I finally had to go ask the hostess to get us a waiter so we could get some water and order our food. No apology from the hostess, but she did go find someone. The waitress finally came and asked if we were ready so I mentioned that we had been waiting for 25+ minutes by then and yes we were ready. She said "sorry" and that was it. We let it be. Our food came in a reasonable time, but we had to pull another waiter to the side to ask for our bill again after telling our waitress 10min or more prior we were done with our food. She cleared my friends plate, but not mine and we did not see her again the rest of the evening. Overall, I'd give them another shot since the food was good. My better half and I decided to stop in on a Friday night to check it out. I haven't been in the space for awhile and forgot what a great interior they get to work with. The original stone walls with the dark wood booths and bar and tables gives a warm and cozy feel to the place. When we had a chance to sit and review the menu, we noticed a few peculiarities. I realize the restaurant is still relatively new and could be still working out the kinks but wanted to point these out: 1) Appetizers almost the same price of sandwiches-An order of fries is $7 while they come with a burger priced at $12. 2) Entrees with no description-107 State does a great job listing the ingredients to their sandwiches but for the entrees-just simply the protein. For example, the menu lists grilled chicken. It could be the best chicken ever but without providing any other context, its hard to get excited about 3) What does 107 want to be when it grows up? Is it an app/sandwich place or more upscale with grilled streaks and other entrees? The reason I ask is depending on where they want to go, they may need to examine their wine prices. With some glasses $14 or higher, hard to reconcile that when eating a burger that is cheaper than that. If it wants to be more upscale, the wine prices makes sense but perhaps the menu needs to change as a result. Moving onto the food, we both order burgers with mine being the bacon burger. One of my biggest pet peeves is when restaurants asks about how I want my burgers cooked and then proceed to overcook it. That was the case for my order when I asked for medium rare and got a patty approaching medium well. With that said, I can appreciate the hand pattied beef (which I think comes from Knoche's Butcher Shop) and the quality of the ingredients and flavor of the burger (although overcooked). Their bun was stellar-soft yet sturdy enough to holder the heft of the burger and toppings contained within. The fries appeared to be homemade but were unfortunately limp. Properly fried, they could have been delicious. I thought the service and waitstaff did a fine job with checking in without being too obtrusive. Don't know if I will be back soon but will be scanning other reviews and seeing how it progresses. I think they have the underpinnings of something successful. Time will tell. read more

I have come twice - once with a large group (10) and once with just one other person. Both times the staff has been on. it. Definitely make a reservation because it is a smaller place with limited seating, but the ambiance is great for a swanky dinner or a date night - dim lighting, exposed brick, cool bar. The menu is diverse in pasta and burger selections (I have had both and they are 10/10). Make sure you come hungry if you are getting the pasta, the portions are very large, but the burgers are a bit on the smaller side. I often see people even just having a drink at the bar (highly recommend the moscow mule). read more

We visited 107 before a trip to the comedy club, it's in walking distance and takes reservations so it was perfect. Service with a smile with the young college staff. Actually most of the people IN the restaurant look under 30, but that makes sense as it's downtown. It's an Italian + American fusion. Prices were reasonable for what you got. I had the pepperdalle pasta with pesto cream, green beans & pistachios. it was rich and, flavorful and filling. i would have replaced the green beans with asparagus but it was still very good! everyone enjoyed their meals- highly recommend! read more

It was a birthday dinner por mi. I started out with the charcuterie plate which had a nice burrata that was the perfect foil for the pepperoncini. The ham left me puzzled though and was closer to a canned hormel ham than something more hearty and befitting of a prosciutto. Kind of flavorless as a result, though sliced as impeccably thin veils. The Caesar salad was the best my dining partner ever had and the plate was spotless after he was finished. The entrees were rigatoni with a lamb ragu which was very hearty and packed a punch heat wise. It was good. The gemelli with green beans and pistachio in a cream sauce was curious. The idea was greater than the result which was a massive serving that was very heavy on the green beans. They were crunchy and tres al dente but cool in temperature in contrast to the molten pasta they sat on. It could have been my taster, but it was hard to coax a flavor from the sauce even after adding salt. Pistachio chunks would have been a better idea in some sort of stock rather than a whitish emulsion. It was not bad but more underwhelming than anything else because it lacked a flavor and the cooler green beans were more textural than complementary. The thyme collins, however, was very nice to nurse with the pile of pasta. The service and overall vibe was terrific A nice place for dinner but I paid for my curiosity and will wait for my next pasta with crushed pistachios, or ask that it have include some spinach, sausage, or even garlic. read more

Wow. So, went there last night w reservations made from their website. Super nice staff though it was one of her first shifts she was great and pleasant and efficient. We ordered the salt and pepper wings, burrata, smash burger and blue cheese burger. We had a bottle of wine and they were very fairly priced. We were very happy w the food. The wings were light with a clean flavor and a nice Calabrian chili sauce. Not bready and heavy. The burrata was simple and well done as well. I think next time we may ask for more pepperocini on it but it was a nice dish in general. The burgers were well made and had a great flavor. Next time we will try the Valentino! I will definitely be going back. It is a very well done menu and I hope they do well. We will try to support this restaurant as best we can. The owner was there and working In the back and running g food which was nice to see. Clearly want to help an entrepreneur and he had multiple staff members working hard for him. The food itself is a great reason to go. It's location is nice. I hope they do well. Very nondescript place from the outside. I really wanted to like this place. We were excited to try it out. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype. What went well: We arrived before our reservation and our table was ready for us. Nice corner booth that gave our party of 5 our own little space. Cocktails: great selection, well made, tasty What didn't go well: We had 3 burgers and 3 pasta dishes amongst us. The pasta special of the night was Wagyu beef and bacon. Our waiter had to "check with the chef" to see if they had any left at 7pm when we ordered. Food came out hot but the dish was WAY TOO salty. Our burgers were all cooked WELL done. The waiter never asked how we'd like to have them cooked- I don't think any of us assumed they would be that overdone. One person in our party asked for a side of green hatch chili with his burger and was told "I'll ask". He then asked to add lettuce to his burger and was told "we don't have lettuce" - even though a burger on the menu features iceberg lettuce (more on that in a bit). There was one order of Penne ala vodka (their #1 seller) and when the food arrived another pasta dish with red sauce was brought in error. The waiter apologized and said he would get the correct dish out ASAP. He then comes back to the table 2-3 minutes later with the wrong pasta dish and says "I know you didn't order this but did you want it instead or just wait for the other one". Um, I'll wait. Hysterically, our table was then approached by another waitress holding 2 salads, inquiring if they belonged there (but they "didn't have lettuce" for my BIL's burger ) Nothing fantastic about the penne ala vodka once it arrived- nice heat to the sauce and diced pepperoncini's were good addition. I would go back to 107 State for a cocktail- their bar area is gorgeous. Would I eat there again? No. read more

Food was pretty bland and definitely not worth the extensively long wait. Additionally, the service was unprofessional. For instance, the server spilt a bunch of oil on my friends prom dress, phone, and dropper her cutlery and hardly apologized or compensated her properly. He didn't even bother to clean up the mess. I had to go to the manager and ask for her to make him give my friend a proper apology and reimbursement. And all he would compensate was her meal, which hardly made up for her ruining her over $100 dollar dress. I do not recommend. read more

Sad to say I wasn't super impressed with 107 state. The menu was not the same as is online and prices were a few dollars higher-- which I understand raising prices but the menu online should be updated as well I think! The cheese curds were alright but weren't super fresh and the batter was too crunchy. The pasta was good but seemed too average for the price. Their menu was so limited to only burgers and pasta with a few appetizers so I didn't have much choice as a non meat-eater. Went for my birthday with family and our waiter was also not friendly or welcoming. Waiter did not ask how others wanted their burgers done, which ended up also contributing to just an ok meal. Overall pretty disappointed. Food was just okay so likely will not come back unfortunately. read more

Based on the burgers - I'm going for a 5 star. It should be noted that in our party of 6, the 4 people who got burgers voted for 5 stars and the 2 who got pasta and the special voted 4. The burgers at 107 are the real deal!!!! I had the Garlicky and it was such a unique and tasty delight! The old fashioned and the blue cheese burger were also tremendous hits. Fries on the side are also wonderful and worth the added side. Iceberg wedge was good not great and orchiette pasta was tasty- bolognese was good, classic and as expected. I don't review many places, but the only thing that was better than the food and drinks was the service. Ordered wings, prochetta, and pasta. Multiple warm and cold drinks. All great. Bartenders, servers and kitchen staff were great. Even on a big game day, they made dinner the highlight of our time in Madison. read more

I brought my new boss here after a trade show and he ordered the pork chop. 75% of it was raw inside. Not medium, but fully translucent pink. When a different waiter came by he was high as a kite and offered to "heat it up more" WHAT?! So my boss ordered a burger with no onions. It came out with onions. After looking at the menu posted (which turned out to be old) we decided it was the fickle hand of fate that landed us there and we went in. Turns out Saturday night is prime rib night and boy am I glad we did go in. We both got the prime rib. Excellent choice. It was crusted with a mushroom rub before roasting. It was delicious. The potatoes that came with it looked deceiving boring, but turned out to be herby and tasty (including whole cloves of roasted garlic... yum)! In town for 2 days, wanted to try something new. Super friendly, excellent bartender. Old fashioned was just as ordered. There with one coworker. Tried a cheese appetizer and some wings, both great and also creative. We ordered 2 very different dishes, one pasta and one large steak. Had our first visit tonight. My husband asked for lettuce in his burger and the waiter said " he'd ask" ( they serve salads so we know there's lettuce in house, and frankly, it's a burger how is it a hassle to add lettuce?) Our Waiter never asked how we wanted our burgers done, and every one was done well, which wouldn't have been our preference. My friend ordered the Penne Alla Vodka, and when the waiter brought the wrong entree ( knowing it was the wrong entree) , instead of just correcting it he asked if she'd just eat the entree he mistakenly brought ( seriously?). Another friend and I ordered the Pasta Special - Waygu beef and Bacon Ragu- it was super salty and underwhelming. Walked in on a whim. Picked up on a few queues that leaned interesting. Good tunes; quality sound; really attractive bar as a centerpiece; greeted in a friendly manner and Hibiki whiskey among a well stocked shelf. Figured I'd order a beer from a quality menu while my wife ordered a nice Sangiovese, all good. Decided to have a little something and ordered the wedge. Too much dressing on the salad but the pork belly bacon was killer. Added a shrimp penne pasta that would have benefitted from a dash of white wine or a quick lemon zest, but good stuff. Enjoyed the service, the stop and the vibe. This place is fighting for space in the world and deserves a shot. Give them a try. read more
