It's a liquor store what do you expect? Well less than a 15 dollar markup on a 19 dollar bottle of wine at the other liquor store around the corner. I'd ask why they're still in business but it's obvious once you see the face rip prices they charge. LITERALLY will go anywhere else - and grudgingly go when it's the only one open. Stopped in here last night for a couple bottles of wine as for a dinner party I was hosting. The staff was knowledgeable and really guided me to a proper wine based on what I was serving rather than trying to up-sell me. I am not a serious wine drinker but I know what tastes I like and they seem to know how to put that all together and direct you well. I ended up with a couple south american wines that my guests loved. Prices seemed extremely fair and I feel like I got great wines for my budget. (target was no more than 20/bottle and there was a lot for me to choose from) I will surely be back, such a great place. For someone who isn't quite as skilled in knowing what to expect from a label, I can't wait to have a chance talk to them before I buy. read more

Love em. Lex Liquors is so reliable and here's why: If you're in a crunch, and don't have time to go in-person, they'll deliver. I'm habitually late to things so I've even told them I have limited time to wait and they hustle over. They also happily give recommendations and pricing over the phone if you give them an idea of what you want and ask for advice. The same goes for in-person. I've gone into Lex Liquors for advice on sparkling wine, champagne, and wine and they always help me, giving me options within my price range. For instance, I've told them I'm looking to pair with fish, or pasta, or buying a celebratory gift for a friend, and they happily give their two cents. While they are very nice, their hours are wrong on yelp and they close early every night I've gone. They close at 11:45 and almost always they close before that. It's frustrating when you think you can make it to this store before they close and now you can't make it to any other store before they close. Update: the owner did contact me and apologized for the incorrect hours. So I have given them more stars. read more

Lex Liquors caught me by surprise and what a pleasant surprise it was! When you step down the stairs the store really opens up. I was greeted by the staff right away. First thing I noticed was a large selection of whiskey & scotches, which is right up my alley. It was also nice to see 3 tables of sale items right in the middle of the store. Before I could ask, an employee was already there to assist me. The staff seemed to very knowledgable as I asked about California reds. They asked such questions as "what price range I would like to be in", if their was a "specific varietal I was searching for" and also if it was "for dinner or just to sip on". They made me feel very comfortable. Another thing I noticed as I walked to the back area (for the California reds) was two full fridges of whites and sparkling wine. While a lot of small liquor/wine shops seem to hike the prices of their alcohol, 111 Lex Liquors offers a great, consolidated selection of branded fine wines/liquors at a fair price. It's below street level, in an awesome location of the Curry Hill area. It's very convenient considering some of the restaurants in the area are BYO. I was making my way to the Curry In A Hurry BYO restaurant across the street but was in search for wine and saw this little store sign that simply read "Wines and Liquors". It was a great decision to come here. I love the fact it's small, and that they keep their wines organized by region while the prices are clearly displayed. They have many wines on the rack and also chilled in a fridge. I was able to find one of my favorite white wines within seconds of walking in, and it was actually priced the same as in NJ (Oyster Bay - Sauvignon Blanc at $13.99). I really prefer the smallness/size of this shop. You won't be overwhelmed by choices when you're browsing (at least when you're in a rush), but the ones they do sell are solid and safe bets. Highly recommend this spot if you want the basic selection of the best wines out there sold at just the right price. read more

This is the go-to place in the neighborhood for booze. The liquor is overpriced, just like it would be anywhere else in NY, but they have an impressive collection of intoxicating agents, so what can I say? They also have my favorite tequila (Avion...yes, just like the one in Entourage), which is a plus in my book. They also have a pretty good collection of wine, which I know little about but drink regularly because of the health benefits (something to do with antioxidants I think, or maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to drink). The staff hasn't ever been particularly enthusiastic, though, which makes checking out feel a bit grim. It's a heck of a lot better than any of the state-sanctioned places I had to endure in Philly back in the day, but otherwise, it's pretty typical. It's the staff that "makes" it for me. 111 Lex makes its home in a cute cellar on the East side, very conveniently located near my office. A friend and I stopped in to grab a couple red wines for a wine tasting, and chatted with the owner. He asked us a few questions about what we were looking for and ended up helping us select two that we both really enjoyed. Despite my best attempts to sound like a wine connoisseur, I'm pretty sure I failed miserably. But Leo and the rest of the staff were so knowledgable and inviting, it really didn't matter. Plus, you get 10% off six bottles and an even bigger discount when you buy a case. They have a large selection to choose from, whether you're looking for something cheap, or a nicer bottle for a special occasion. read more

It was raining and had previously snowed. The sidewalks were slick and slippery. We walked around but it was miserable. Went back to hotel for lunch asked server if there was a wine store or liquor store nearby. I wanted to get a bottle of wine. She didn't know of one. I went to yelp and found this business that delivers. Yay!! Large selection of wine and spirits. The online site didn't work for me but I called and staff was knowledgeable and happy to help. Let's just say I love the fact that this place is open until 11pm instead of 10pm (as many other places seem to close a bit earlier)...so when we were in need of a bottle of red for a late BYOB dinner, this place sure did come in useful. I'll be honest with you, I'm not even sure this place has a name - its in the basement of a building, and you need to walk down a flight of narrow stairs to get there, but what a find! The service is extremely friendly, and they make great recommendations. We came in after grabbing some food in Curry Hill and were looking for some chilled wine to bring to a friend's place. I've been a dedicated customer to the wine shop for over a year and I definitely can say that the shop has grown tremendously. Always warmly greeted by the staff and just by my luck I always manage to catch their free wine tastings usually done on the weekends. Has a great large selection of wines from all over and a nice selection of cold wines in their 2 refrigerators. The owners are very accommodating to the their customers, I once requested a particular Ethiopian wine that was impossible to find anywhere in the city and they managed to get it in for me within a week! It's also conveniently located outside all the BYOB Indian restaurants so anytime I'm out to dinner there I'm always set with wine. read more
