In a Woodstock mood, I went for a mushroom motif inclusive of a mushroom onion soup and mushroom infused homemade cavatelli. You won't get points for atmosphere as the location is main street central and directly across from an Irish pub that is still serving the same slab of corned beef that they first boiled in 1991. From the menu I expected the restaurant to be a bit more upscale but it was more homey. Not a problem. Park across the street and walk back across to enter. We are welcomed and seated immediately. The decor gives a clean farmhouse feel. I love Farm-to-table dining that actually delivers in execution. It's BYOB. We were provided a carafe of chilled water. The specials explained to us thoroughly but we would not be distracted. My dining partner had already decided on the grits and scallops. Me? I am an eggs Benedict connoisseur. I had no choice but to go for the wild boar eggs Benedict with truffle hollandaise over cornbread. 12 Farms kicks off your dining with a complimentary mixed green salad with radish and beet slivers, seeds, and a homemade thyme dressing. Refreshing and light. Then we ordered the soup of the day - a Hakurei turnip, chicken with ginger - and the split pea crispy duck. Sooo hot! It must have come off a cauldron in hell. Delicious. The split pea was Smokey and smooth. The chicken and veggie soup was perfect on a Fall day. Flavorful. The entrees! The first time I tried wild boar it was so dry I thought "never again". No concerns here. The cornbread was thick and high, served warm with tender shredded wild boar. Similar to a pulled pork. Two poached eggs sat on top of the shredded wild boar and were covered in a delicious truffle hollandaise. Decadently done but homemade tasting! Flavorful but not salty or heavy. I had a side of creamy cheddar grits with garlic and it was heavenly. Our other entree was grits covered in a omelette with 4 blackened scallops, dressed with a side of carrots, onions and a light, creamy gravy. Again, every bite was bursting with flavor but not heavy or salty. Scallops were fresh and well cooked. Friendly, responsive service from knowledgeable staff also goes a long way with me. 12 Farms Restaurant just nailed the whole dining experience. Perfectly executed meal. Well done. Had valentine day dinner and chose the price fix option which was $65 however half of the entrées, definitely most of the good ones including the special all had a $25 up charge That's fine I guess, but the first two courses which they combined into one dish was a soup sampling, and a salad choice. The soup sampling consisted of three very tiny cups that were sort of like an espresso size cup. The salad was a very small portion. They said that the portion sizes were not smaller because of the $65 price fix option. If you ordered the salads à la carte they arranged from $19-$22 I believe. Had I did the à la cart and received that portion for that much money I would be disappointed to say the least; my wife and I often share a salad before entrées and generally speaking they are big enough to share but their portion wasn't enough for me alone. Presentation was beautiful and service was great, as well as the ambience, and we have been there several times. We are raying a 3 because of the positives, but I did consider making it a 2. We have passed this place 100 times and finally made it in, and I'm so glad we did. The staff is very friendly from the start to finish. All the food is farm to table and beyond fresh ingredients. The menu has so many different delicious options it makes it hard to choose just one. But we did start with the blueberry scone, which was beyond fresh and delicious. We then got a complementary salad. It was so fresh. You can taste that it was probably pulled out this morning from earth. We then got the avocado toast, which was a special that morning, and it was out of this world. It was on top of a focaccia sourdough that was so good and as odd as this sounds, there was bacon with the avocado on top. Delicious! We also shared the wild board Benedict. We've never had anything like it and it was magnificent. We did actually return for a lunch the other day where we shared a chicken sandwich that was also out of this world and a crab special sandwich that was dreamy. All in all this place is a new favorite and not too far from home. Very happy to have found it. The staff has been warm and welcoming each time we come . It was the Saturday before Easter, a beautiful, sunny spring day, so we decided to take the Corvette to the Tulip Festival in Upper Freehold, NJ. We weren't the only ones with that idea, as an extra 25,000 people seemed to have the same plan! Arriving at the gate, after finding free parking, we were told they had reached capacity. Rats! It looked like a fantastic sight - tulips in every color imaginable stretching as far as you could see, along with food trucks and a charming windmill. I even chatted with two ladies who were close friends with the Dutch owners, flown in to help with the event. Disappointed but undeterred, we hopped back in the Corvette, put the top down, and enjoyed the drive. My wife, Jeanne, discovered a small restaurant in Hightstown, NJ, called 12 Farms Restaurant. It was 20 minutes away and off we went. Public parking was plentiful, and we entered the over 150-year-old building, immediately enveloped by its rich history and the delightful aroma of good food. Our waitress, Quinn (the same name as my granddaughter!), greeted us warmly and described the specials. My wife quickly chose the lobster mac-n-cheese, while I perused the extensive menu. They don't serve alcohol, so we both opted for their delicious peach iced tea. 12 Farms prides itself on sourcing high-quality ingredients, including grass-fed beef, fresh seafood, and local produce from family-run farms like their own farmette, Little Big Acres in Millstone, NJ. Their aim is to offer diverse and creative menus catering to various dietary needs, including vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. The menu was indeed impressive, a great mix of gluten-free, vegetarian, and protein dishes. Options like the Jersey Tomato Panini and the Acho Chili Braised shredded chicken sounded wonderful. After much deliberation and another refreshing peach iced tea, I decided on the OG burger: a Wagyu beef burger with thick bacon, local cheddar, and onion jam. While we waited, enjoying the view of Hightstown's bustling main street, a fresh greens salad arrived - a bright and tasty sweet and sour mix with pine nuts, thinly sliced turnips and cucumber, and a flavorful vinaigrette. The edible orange slice was a lovely touch. Soon after, our entrees arrived. The Lobster Mac-n-Cheese was a generous bowl of large macaroni with plenty of lobster chunks and a creamy three-cheese sauce topped with greens. My wife clearly loved it. My OG burger was substantial, topped with cheese, thick bacon, and their house-onion made jam, accompanied by seven small home fries and more greens. Large burgers can often suffer from a soggy bottom bun, but I decided to eat the flavorful Wagyu beef, onion jam, and pickled jalapenos separately, thoroughly enjoying the delicious combination. Completely full, we skipped dessert. It's worth noting that 12 Farms is a cash-only establishment. Overall, I give 12 Farms a 4 out of 5. A perfect date night for New Year's Eve! They opened specially for the holiday and had lots of gluten free options. It was our first time eating here and loved the experience! It's been over 2 years, since I had been to 12 Farms for Sunday brunch! 12 Farms is a wonderful and unique alternative from the other brunch fare around town. The best part is all the ingredients are from local area farms, making 12 Farms a healthy option with all fresh ingredients.  This farm to table restaurant has very reasonable prices, outstanding service, and very good food. For brunch, we were given the complimentary choice of still or sparkling Pelligrino. That was a nice treat. Last time we were here, they gave us complimentary scones. We ordered the Wild Boar Benedict and the Shakshuka. My husband and I both devoured our entrées and thoroughly enjoyed them. In the past we tried the Vegetable Frittata and the Farmer's Skillet, both options are also great. Oh, and for coffee lovers, the French Pressed coffee is quite nice. We waited extensive amounts of time to order and be served and it was frustrating. The ambiance could use some work too. We aren't from the area but this came up as the closest place for breakfast in the location of the Tulip Farm. This place was amazing! We were on a time crunch so on their website it said that they accepted reservations so I made a reservation for when they open at 10am because the inside is pretty small (cute but small). The staff on the phone were super nice. I told them that I really hoped they had the avocado toast from the pictures I saw online but they couldn't promise it would be on special. We got there at 10 for our reservation, seated right away. The specials didn't include it but the chef had enough to make one order. It was the best avocado toast we've ever had. I don't know if it was the bread or the light touch of citrus on it but I'll be dreaming about it. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We are definitely going to go back. Everywhere we went we were talking about it and recommending this place to people. They said since summer is coming up, the avocado toast should be on the menu more in case anyone is going for that. So good 100% recommend!! Ohh since we also got the Garden State panini, they give you a salad for the table and the dressing is fresh and delicious. 4 of us came here on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and it was not very busy fortunately since we arrived very late after our reservation. I got the shrimp & grits ($22), which was interesting because there were 2 types of grit it seemed - one regular, and one flavored with beets(?). The shrimp was very well-seasoned, and I appreciated the yolky eggs and salad that came with them as a contrast. I tried the French Toast ($12 - it was pretty sweet and cinnamon-heavy, but friend liked it), and the duck grilled cheese ($17 - this was very good with lots of duck, I would get this next time). They didn't have any pies available, so we got the cranberry almond cake ($11), which was just alright. The cranberries were just on top, and the almond cake itself wasn't very moist, but not dry either. The homemade whipped cream on the side was really good though. 4.5 stars for me, but downgraded for the disappointing dessert - hopefully there will be pie next time! read more

Jason was most gracious and attentive.The level of excellence of both the quality and presentation was definitely 5 star! Went here for lunch on a Saturday. The place is cute intimate only about 10 tables or so. The waitress was very friendly and pleasant, she kept checking on us, the wait was minimal for our meals. For appetizers they had some very unique freshly baked scones, I usually don't like scones for their dryness but these were nothing like that. I ordered the OG burger for lunch that was very juicy and well cooked. We also order the shrimp and grits, the grits were phenomenal but the shrimp I believe 4 count were ok, and the last plate was a chicken avocado panini that was also good. Dessert came around with a flourless chocolate cake which was rich and dense my only wish was that it was warm or room temperature, not cold. I absolutely love this place and will make an effort to stop by whenever I'm around the area. The wild boar benedict was godly. You must try it. The bison burger was not dry or gamey. On the contrary, it was juicy and well balanced. I was excited for the wagyu beef burger but found that the bacon was way too salty and overpowering. Would not order it again, but everyone else at the table seemed to like it. The korean pork buns were well done. The flavors were nothing out of the ordinary, but it was well executed. I found it hard to justify the $15 cost for two buns. The baked cinnamon custard french toast was very cute and tasty, I just wish there were more per order, and more in stock. We wanted 3 but they ran out. The server was informed and very friendly. The orange juice is freshly squeezed and the coffee (I forget the source) was clearly made from fresh beans and had a vibrant flavor. If you like brunch foods, come.
