This is a genuinely nice venue, right on the beach. On hotter days the AC struggles a bit and things can get warm and humid inside. They don't take reservations, so a wait is common, but it's worth sticking around for. Our server was just ok, a little slow and not totally clear when explaining the menu or how many people each dish could feed. We started with shrimp and a few other appetizers, all solid. Every steak comes with a salad that's filling enough on its own. The real star, though, is the tomahawk, easily enough to feed 2 or 3 people and cooked exactly right. The rest of the steaks we tried came out just as well. For the price, the steak quality here is hard to beat, and that alone is enough reason to come back. My girlfriend came into town and wanted a steak. I've been trying places and I heard this place was great.. We arrived relatively early and there was already a wait so we sat outside. We have fans and shade to keep us cool. My gf had a filet and I went with the NY. It was my favorite steak thus far! The seasonings were amazing. My server, Jamie told me that they called it a Montreal seasoning. She had an understanding of wine and helped me pick the perfect glass of red! She was very attentive and had great energy! I wanted nor waited, for a thing! That's a big deal! The salads and starch were included with the entrees. But we added the steamed broccoli and we spilt a bernaise sauce. I swear I could eat that plain, I liked it so much... let the pictures be my proof. My entree was only 45 dollars... completely affordable especially with salads and starch! Let me start by saying I've been wanting to try this place for over a year. After hearing so many people say it was worth the price, we finally decided to go--and now I'm wondering why we waited so long! The bruschetta appetizer was absolutely delicious, the house salad was fresh and on point, and my 16-ounce ribeye was cooked to a perfect medium. They do charge a $7 split fee, but it includes an extra salad and side, so it was well worth it. The service was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. All other reviews are exactly right, this place was incredible and honestly one of the best steaks I've had. We came around 6p and had about a 30 min wait, they don't take reservations and there's about 50 seats so be ready to wait especially on a busy day. The salad comes with balsamic vinaigrette and they do have another dressing, I think it was bleu cheese but can't remember for sure. It was a really good salad but I highly recommend asking for the dressing on the side because it was drenched. The rolls were really well flavored, nice salty/garlicky topping and served warm. The ribeye was cooked perfect medium rare and the baked potato was piping hot with butter and sour cream. Lacked a bit of flavor but they have salt and pepper on the table. I got the Gorgonzola sauce and can confirm it's famous for a reason. $6 is a bit egregious for the saucer you get of it but I'd buy it time and time again. My husband said the lobster was the best he'd had and it was cooked to be perfectly tender. Garlic potatoes and filet were both well flavored and the steak was cooked well. We were seated outside and they had heaters but if there's a cold snap definitely come prepared to be cold as the porch is basically a breeze thru lol. Still as great as ever! Better than Ruth's and at half the price. All remodeled after the hurricane and they have indoor and outdoor seating with space heaters if it's cold. We both got their Rib Eyes which melt in your mouth with a perfect Char. Service is terrific and just a very well run restaurant. Haven't been to 1200 Chop in over a year. It did not disappoint! Lucked out with only a 45 minute wait so we had some beers on the patio. We were seated at the bar and the service was prompt and friendly even with the restaurant being packed. The dinner salad was delicious and came with bread service. The filet was cooked perfectly--mine medium rare, my partners medium. The bartender suggested his favorite Pinot noir of the few they have. Finished dinner with some crème brûlée which was very good. Two filet Oscar's, two wines, a beer, and a brûlée came to around $134 (without tip) which is pretty reasonable since everywhere is so expensive now. read more

Please start taking reservations!!! This is a great steak restaurant however, not taking reservations tends to make the guests " aggressive "as people push and shove and get very tense.!!! OMG! This is the best steakhouse we have ever eaten at. We are from Dallas, Texas and it surpasses Texas steakhouses!! They have a private parking lot, which is great. They don't take reservations but we got 2 seats at the bar, which were great!! They only serve beer and wine. The house cab was actually really good! Our servers, Christopher and Elijah were amazing! They go above and beyond for exceptional service!! The head chef, Chase is above amazing. Our food was exceptional! Dewayne, in the kitchen, was on point! From the rolls and butter, to my 1/2 wedge blue cheese salad (which is plenty) and super delicious. We both ordered the 7 oz filet, medium, which was perfect & you could cut with your fork!! This restaurant gets full quickly but its so worth the wait. My mother and I took a little trip to St Pete's Beach and the surrounding areas just to get out of our comfort zone and live life a little. Although I'm not a big fan of St. Petes Beach, there are areas that are great, but.. overall.. I don't think I will be moving there anytime soon.. I think there are quite a few restaurants and other businesses that are doing a fantastic job with their locals and tourists. What was great about this restaurant is that even though it caters to tourists it didn't feel touristy.. if that makes any sense. My mother and I had the exact same dish, Filet Mignon and baked potato and cooked spinach... the starter was included with the meal..everybody got it... its a gorgonzola, walnut, cranberries, vinagrette salad.. you know which one I'm talking about... and based on the salad (which is their teaser dish)... Beyond 5 stars and better than most steakhouses I have been to. Yes, better than Bern's if we are talking about food quality. I will say it is a small venue and here is the kicker - they don't take reservations. You MUST get there 30+ minutes before they open to get a table. And even then, you are not guaranteed to get a table. My friends and I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon and arrived on their patio at 4:30pm (they opened at 5pm). There was a line within minutes. We were luckily seated inside and served immediately. All I have to say is order every appetizer because nothing disappointed and the steaks cannot be beat. Scallop appetizer - best scallops I've ever had. Truffle fries - you can't beat that flavor and for $10? MUST GET. The NY strip was beyond perfect and it lasted me 3 meals as leftovers. Great little restaurant on St. Pete Beach. Every beach town in FL is full of places that don't care because they don't have to, the tourists will fill the place every night. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THOSE PLACES. This is a legit steakhouse! Great service, delicious food. Great steak (we had the filet skewers and a ribeye), but the highlight of the night was the pork chop (without the mango salsa) one of the best one ever had anywhere!! My wife added a scallop skewer and said they were delicious. The sides are great, tried the brussels sprouts, mashed and au gratin, all delicious, but honestly a waste of space, save the room for the meat!! The wines are decently priced too. So we found this place on a whem on vacation. It was pretty packed but they had a spot available by the front door but the seating was wayy too close to the patrons next to me for my liking so we decided to leave. One of the servers came out to ask what was wrong which I thought was so nice and he stated that we could sit outside because they had fans so we did. So glad that we decided to stay. So I took my friend there to celebrate the end of her chemo and hopefully the end of all cancer for her, and I've always raved to her about this restaurant. This time we went in and our server was rude. All she wanted to do was get us out for the table. They brought our salad, and I hadn't even taken a bite and She just picked it up. Didn't even ask me if I was done I had to stop her from taking it then she gave me an attitude about it. It was very loud in the restaurant and we had asked for something specific from her and she did not bring it so I said I'm sorry. Maybe you didn't hear me cause it was so loud in there and then she snapped me. I heard you. I'm just not gotten it yet and I'm talking. We waited quite a while before I said anything Then my steak came back way overcooked and I know that that's not her fault. I have never sent a male back in my life ever but I'm not paying $60 for something. I wasn't gonna eat because it was overcooked and she made me cut into it in three more spots, I know how to check if the steak is cooked and I've already cut into it in the thickness of the middle, thinking it would be a little rare there. I hate wasting food so I do not send back food. when I said something to her about it being overcooked, she was pissed. And it was because of her attitude I decided yeah you know what I am sending this back so I did and she snapped it up real quick and then when she brought it back, she just dropped it in front of me and walked away not like could you check it and see if this one's OK. Anyway, the last two times I've been there I feel like the quality has gone down. The service used to be really good and we always had fun with our servers and I always tip really well. I mean extremely well because I know the food cooking isn't in their control. And I'm really not picky. But this server got the bare minimum tip and I'm kind of taking chop 1200 off my list of good places to go. If you're gonna pay that much money for something they better not be rushing you which she just kept grabbing our plates like hurry up hurry up the table next to us twice in the couple they complain about her too. They leaned over to us and said something actually both people that were in that table said something to us. What was supposed to be a nice night to celebrate this lady really took the wind out of our sales. She was rude to my friend and we really didn't take that long. It was my son's birthday and he decided on a steak dinner, so I called to make reservations only to find out they don't accept reservations. It was a Tuesday night, so I didn't think it would be packed at 6:30 PM, I was wrong, it was packed. But it's a very small restaurant so it fills quickly. The wait wasn't too bad, maybe 25 minutes, and thankfully, we were seated inside because it was a cold night. Service was phenomenal, we were waited on right away. The menu was short sweet into the point. I couldn't decide if I wanted a ribeye or New York strip so the server suggested the ribeye. We ordered the bruschetta for an appetizer, it was interesting, with shaved Parmesan on top. The steaks came out and looked fabulous, they have a good char on them, but with plenty of flavor and unlike another steakhouse, they use seasoning. My son ended his birthday dinner with a crème brûlée, which was phenomenal. I was shocked at the tiny space for cooking could allow for such amazing tasting food. read more

The lobster at first was so good and flavorful but as I kept eating it, it got really salty. I tried my moms sea bass she ordered and omg that was amazing. I was trying to decide between the ny strip and the pan seated snapper and my waitress said - if you ate going to het a steak I tevommend the ribeye - but otherwise, the snapper is first rate and her favorite. Bread and butter started the meal with a fantastic dinner salad made of mixed greens, toasted tiny walnut pieces, cranraisins, tiny bits of what I think was apple, pine nuts, gorgonzola cheese and it came dressed in a sweetish balsamic dressing. It was fantastic. Mt entree was served looking like a piece of art. The snapper was set atop garlic mashed potatoes and those potatoes were packed with flavor. A lobster beure blanc sauce topped the dish and surrounded the the entire dish. I almost asked for a spoon to ensure I vould get every bit of its deliciousness but managed to get most of it without one. The fish was topped with a balsamic glaze and finely diced tomatoes. We have been here before and know to come early. There were plenty of people in line before 5;00 and no way to keep order of who was there first when the doors opened at 5:00. We got the second to last table as the restaurant fills quickly. We started with the goat cheese appetizer which was crunchy on the outside and creamy inside. We split the twin Oscar filets and they were perfectly seared on the outside and juicy on the inside. The Gorgonzola sauce was a perfect addition to complement the steak. We topped it off with a nice bottle of the CS Cabernet. They need some type of number system for the customers standing outside when it opens to be fair. read more

This place is very hard to get a seat there is approx 9 tables and a small bar. It's first come first serve and no reservations are taken. People line up one hour before the place opens to save a seat. They only serve beer and wine. The porterhouse for two was very good and comes cut off bone and presented nicely. This is the fifth time trying here and honestly, the first time was the standout. To spend over $100 per person , I expect more . The steak was good but not great . I too can rub steak in Montreal seasoning and cook medium rare . Their steak is not special , not melt in your mouth and no bone in option for ribeye. It is mealy and not juicy . I had the ribeye while my wife had a filet , both medium rare. Asparagus was ok , larger than most and seemed boiled , a char would be preferred. Small ice cream scoop of mashed potatoes that so lonely on the plate ... because it was the size of a small lime. Fantastic intimate local steakhouse with an excellent reputation. Stopped in here on a Tuesday afternoon off-season expecting not much of a crowd, by 730 they had a 25 minute wait. This place is definitely popular- and I can see why. I had the filet mignon with Gouda cheese sauce- it it was definitely one of the best filets I had ever tasted. I'm a fan of leaner cuts, and this steak was so flavorful, and seasoned to perfection. The Gouda was the ultimate compliment. All steaks come with a house salad and a baked potato or mashed potatoes. You can sub a different side for an up-charge. I wasn't a huge fan of the salad, it was quite sweet with craisins, apples, and a honey vinaigrette. I wonder if a different dressing might have been subbed, but I didn't ask. I was a fan of the bread, but I personally don't love sweet butters, this one was very sweet, I'm assuming a honey butter. The only other negative about this restaurant was how Smokey it was inside, immediately visible upon walking in. To be honest, my eyes were burning by the time we left the restaurant, although I might be a bit sensitive to it. Overall, it would not prevent my return, but I might consider sitting on the patio instead. Service was fantastic, and expedient. Everything came out quite quickly. read more
