Visiting from Los Angeles, CA. The establishment was a random choice. I must say, It has been the best meal that I have had in Florida! We were welcomed and seated by sweet Scarlett. Our server,Jose, was the best. Very respectful, professional, attentive and knowledgeable. The manager, Kong, came to greet us and made sure we were satisfied. In my curious conversation we found out that he was from LA, CA as well! We mentioned that we wished they had a Crane in California. The food was AMAZING! As an appetizer we shared a beet mango salad. It was so well prepared. My hunny had the surf and turf. He said it was delicious and cooked perfectly. I had the filet mignon plate over vegetables. We truly wanted this place to be all that it seemed, unfortunately it fell very flat. To start, we attempted to order the beef carpaccio. We were told that they were out of this item. For the benefit of the doubt these things can happen but typically a Friday 615 dinner running out of several items is a bit surprising. Our friends also were told several items were not available. The grilled octopus was a nice second choice appetizer. We enjoyed it. The sauce and texture were great. We then moved onto the main course, which was a crab-cake dinner with fried green tomatoes and capers. We were told that they were out of green tomatoes. We select selected risotto. Unfortunately for this price point we were let down. It was hard to distinguish the crab with all of the other binding sauces, and bread? The risotto came out in a big clump, it was very dry as if it were reheated and not freshly made. I wish I could give a better rating. We had hoped that this would be another new restaurant on our radar however lights out on this one and on to the next. I would like to end on a positive note. The food here was generally good, but there were a few dishes that didn't impress me. The Wagyu dumplings were completely average, with a few hard pieces and only 4 dumplings. The tartare and ceviche appetizers were served with only three crackers each. And the truffle fries didn't taste like truffle at all. Also, for the price of the sides, we were only served 4 pieces of asparagus. Portion sizes are not sufficient for large parties. On the positive side, the Wagyu steak was cooked perfectly and served with vegetables. The restaurant also has a huge bar with tables along the walls. We had a nice meal at The Crane last weekend. My coconut cocktail was tasty but very light on the alcohol. Our wagyu dumplings appetizer was tasty. Our 33oz tomahawk was cooked perfectly and was also very tasty. It came with a curry sauce, which was very good and a chef sauce which was just ok. Based on the mixed reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect for the food but we loved everything we got! We shared the lobster spring rolls, which were good but I do wish the lobster was finer diced. The lobster was large chunks in the spring rolls and I think it would've been nice to have lobster throughout rather than large pieces. We both had the surf and turf - delicious! Our steaks were cooked perfectly, the lobster and risotto were so good. Flavors were great! Our server was so sweet and helpful telling us specials and things on the menu. I wish I caught her name! She brought a birthday dessert out for us to share and it was a delicious chocolate mousse. I will definitely come back to this place! We dined in with a reservation and we're seated immediately. I believe it was around 630pm on Friday or Saturday and it wasn't busy at all. It actually didn't get busy until almost 8pm. Our waitress was very chipper and smiley, very helpful I might add. I liked the menu a lot and I noticed it was a little bit different than what was online which was not an issue for me. I really liked how the menu was set up with hot and cold options. Starter items, raw items, and what piqued my interest, Small bites. That small bites section has seafood and meat that is served at 3 ounces each. That is perfect for someone like me because I prefer seafood, but sometimes I may want just a bite of steak. The other side of the menu has larger plates and sides. All of the options are great. I started with the oysters which were just ok. The tuna ceviche which to me was not what I would describe as cevi he. It was more like a tuna poke arranged like a tartar. It had a lot of textures like raw tuna, mango, avacado, tabiko etc. It was a lot to handle. I liked it, didn't love it just because of the many textures plus, I thought Ibwas ordering ceviche. The small bites...I ordered scallop, lobster, and A5 wagyu.The scallops were cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. The wagyu was cooked medium well and was great. For the price (I think 29$ or close to that) it was a great deal. My lobster was way overcooked and they brought me a new one that was also cooked perfectly. My husband's full plate which was the ribeye steak I believe was also cooked perfectly. The sautéed spinach was also great. We both enjoyed our meals. Our only complaint is that everything was cold when we got it and we didnt actually wait that long fir our food to arrive. I tried all three 0 proof cocktails and liked them all. The last one on the list was my favorite. The restaurant is very nice and I like that it isn't giving steakhouse vibes. It's giving cool and chic. Sitting at the bar finishing up my meal and figured it was a good time to write about it. The Crane appears to be a Japanese or Asian steakhouse with a pretty diverse meat and seafood menu and a number of Asian fusion appetizers and entrees. The restaurant is bright and inviting with a modern Asian feel to it, a large bar in the middle and lots of windows for natural light. They do have some sidewalk seating. I came in a Thursday night and it was dead, so not a good sign. Maybe 3 tables sat and literally no one at the bar. It's a shame because I really enjoyed my meal and hope they make it. I started with their mussels which comes in a curry and fennel broth. Not spicy but a bit of a kick. Absolutely delicious though. Two people could split it but you're still going to be very hungry (though granted, I got it without the bread). I also got their house old fashioned. This was a bit of a disappointment. I forget what bourbon they used but it wasn't very well balanced and while they didn't use ice chips, they did use 3-4 medium sized ice balls instead of a single large cube (readers of my reviews-all 2 of you-will know I am a snob on this issue. I'll say this-it was okay, but not great. At the same time, it also wasn't too expensive so at least I didn't pay a lot for it. Maybe they just used a cheap bourbon. For my entree, I got their maple duck breast which comes with cooked veggies but I also got their truffle fries because my stage name is Fatty McFatterson. Duck-fantastic. Tender and absolutely delicious. Veggies-great, sitting in the duck juice they were very good. Fries-okay. They were fine but enough with the truffle stuff. It just makes food more expensive and I don't think it adds anything. Service was excellent but again, I was the only person at the bar. So, 4 stars. I'm taking 1 away for the drink and fries. I would support 4.5 stars if I could go there but I don't feel like a round up to 5 is justified. Still, I absolutely would come back. I really enjoyed my meal. read more

My first meal at the Crane was incredible. It was by far one of the best meals out I have had in a long time. The steak was really the star of the show here- we had the steak bites as an appetizer and my husband had the ribeye. Both were better than steaks we have had out that have cost over a hundred dollars. The Chilean Sea Bass was also the best fish dish I've had in a long time. It was so tender and perfectly cooked, and the sweet curry sauce it was topped with made it outstanding. Their house vinaigrette on the house salad was also delicious. I enjoyed the Berry Fizzical cocktail also, which was like a spicy margarita fused with a mule. We were both blown away by the food but also had exceptional service, even on a busy night like Valentine's Day. We'll surely be back. read more

We were seated at the bar and were hoping for happy hour specials after reading the sign by the door, however they did not have happy hour that day as it's only Sunday-Thursday sadly (we went on a Saturday). Was really looking forward to Valentines dinner here last night but when we arrived they had swapped out their regular menu for a preset price fix menu. It was 99 dollars per person which wasn't the issue, but there was no notice of this in advance and it did not have what I wanted to order on it I also have a gluten and dairy allergy which made several of the dishes a no for me. I love the atmosphere of the inside of the restaurant; it does seem quite small though not a lot of tables. Our waitress Lisa was the best! She informed us of all the specials today, so my dad decided to get the lobster which was a special and I got the sea bass, recommended by Lisa. Also we tried the fall special drink, the apple pie marg and it was very warm and for sure gives you that fall feeling. As an appetizer we got the wagyu dumplings which were good but I guess I like my dumplings cooked a little harder, but they were still great. Also ordered some oysters, good ole oysters, nothing special about them. But what was my favorite was definitely the risotto that came along with my sea bass! Very moist and flavorful and was a great addition to the sea bass. I also tasted the lobster which was buttery and delicious. I've had the lychee milk punch, and ube colada, and both of the tequila cocktails. This last visit, we had dinner as well. We had the lobster spring rolls and wagyu dumplings which were good but nothing out of this world. I had the surf and turf and was unfortunately disappointed. I forget what it was served on, Both the lobster and the filet lacked tenderness and were a bit tough. My boyfriend had the steak flight which I believe has 4 different cuts including one wagyu. He liked it but said it wasn't anything special. Despite having a less than wonderful experience for dinner, I kept the rating at 4 stars because the drink menu is still in my opinion the best in town. Their service is also top notch. This was literally the best meal I've had in St. Pete! I found it from a post on Instagram and decided to give it a try on date night. There were plenty of reservations available and though I was dressed up, others weren't which made it that much more inviting. Though the tasting menu for $99 was tempting, we started with the seafood dumplings...pan seared perfectly! I had an Ube Colada which screamed a combo of Japan and the Caribbean. It was on the rocks and absolutely delicious. My husband had a smoked old fashion. It was fantastic and perfectly served in a snifter glass which captured the aromas. Next we moved on to the she crab soup. I'm certain there was more crab than soup in the bowl. It was perfect to share but slightly on the acidic side for my tastes. The crab did help to offset the sherry and it wasn't too creamy. Next our entrees; the ribeye was cooked on an open flame as some parts of it were cooked differently and some of the fat wasn't completely rendered, it could have used a tad more salt but was great. We also had the Lobster Risoto...y'all...this was to die for!!! I lived in Japan for 2 years and this brought me right back. The curry sauce was calm like a Japanese curry and ratio of curry to risotto was exact. The lobster was PERFECT. I'm also glad it came in 2 portion sizes because we wanted an appetizer and soup. Our waitress was amazing, accommodating, and friendly! We can wait to go back and try more of the menu. One thing I would change would be the acoustics of the space. There didn't seem to be enough noise dampening through the open space so it did get a little loud. Maybe some noise panels on the walls or ceiling. I noticed the same thing at Fortu. Either way, I've already told all my friends about this place! The menu is a perfect blend of seafood and land food. The drinks were intentional and well crafted.
