Steak and swordfish we ordered were of very good quality. The blackened swordfish was VERY disappointing ... covered in some brown sauce not at all something called blackened. Service was poor , maybe because it is Memorial Day? Polite nonexistent staff ... was sat down and waiting over 10 minutes for water or any human to appear. I love this place, for the porch and the local vibe. It's our go-to place for dinner on our way from White Plains to Litchfield. I love the Sweet Chili Thai Pizza with shrimp. But the last two times have been extremely disappointing. Several weeks back, we were essentially ignored for 35 minutes. No water, no menus, no acknowledgment even though we were sat by the host. I could see that he was engaged with someone, talking and joking, then disappear and go back and talk some more. I had to go up to the hosts station to say "hey, no one's acknowledging us." Then he came out and said "sorry we were taking a large order." Really? Yet, there were three servers on the porch, and only three tables active. The glasses were filthy dirty, and the napkin looked like it had been dragged on the floor. Last weekend, we ordered our food, listened to a server talk about himself for 10 minutes after he took an order, then took ours. Ten minutes, 20 minutes, he's out there chatting it up with another table, makes eye contact with me, and keeps talking. I had to get another server to stop him from blabbing, Then finally, he comes to my table, I say " you forgot my drink. I don't want it now, our food is here and I like to drink a cocktail shortly after I order it. Not with my food." He says "okay" --that's it. The food is always good, but now for the second time, the service has been pretty bad. I didn't write a bad review after the first bad experience, because I wanted to give them another chance, and then it happens again. I appreciate a nice, friendly server, but if you're out there talking up a storm, and not paying attention to your tables, you must understand how to be timely and better at your job. Loved so much about this place. The warm, welcoming feel, the out-of-this-world sausage rigatoni that's both savory and sweet, the tender short-rib with horseradish spinach and mashed potatoes (what!), and the incredible campfire bread pudding that's drizzled in this caramel sauce that you could just lick off the plate. There is nothing better than this restuarant. Let me tell you why. First, I can't resist the food, especially the black bean burger. I can eat 100 of them. Came on a Saturday night with no reservations and a party of 4, totally knowing it would be a wait. Lots of empty tables but we waited about 30mins and were seated. No issues there but after we were seated we waited another 15min to be acknowledged and after placing our order we didn't see anyone for at least 45mins. We didn't even have anyone to ask because no servers were even walking by us. all we ordered was two pizzas and a burger. I got the goat cheese pizza and sister got the old school pie. While we were all content with our food, the waiting made it a pretty miserable experience. Thankful it was a night nice out but wouldn't return because of this. It was super late by the time we got out of there. They need to hire more help! read more

I sat down at a table and it was very sticky. When the waitress came over I asked her to wipe it and she replied that's just the way it is I will bring you a placemat. The placemat had glass ring marks on it. I have never ever experienced anything like this before. I wonder what the kitchen looks like if this is how the dining room is. Mediocrity at its finest. My party of 6 arrived and was promptly escorted to the basement, which looked and felt exactly as you think a basement would. It is built for high school kids to drink beer in - that's it (the basement emergency exit also sticks, for those fire safety enthusiasts among us). The menu is blah with nothing jumping out, which is why I ordered a simple burger cooked medium. It came out scorched. Dishes arrived haphazardly, so that warm salmon become cold waiting for other dishes to arrive. Wine list prices are reasonable and the desserts were good - so there's that. read more

As planned, I returned here for dinner and it was a nice experience. From our table in the upstairs dining room, one can peer into the kitchen directly through the etched glass window and enjoy the hustle and bustle and watch the food being prepared. The ambiance is warm and the noise level just right. Conducive to conversation. The fish, steak, chicken, sandwiches, pizza and appetizers were all very good and very well prepared, but didn't rise to the level of "wow" factor. The wine list is just right. However, I still have a negative view of the adjoining bar, which I find noisy, crowded and ill-configured. I stand by my previous review of 121. I also remain mindful that this is North Salem, and the dining choices are limited. read more

Have been here periodically over the years but like many of the other reviewers it seemingly has gone very downhill. Our waitress was good but the cleanliness of the room, table/silverware and seats was poor, we waited a long time for our food which was at best a C+. Really unfortunate as it's in a fun relaxed location and has a good layout for a place to catch drinks, drinks and apps or dinner, however it was bad enough for dinner that we likely will not be back anytime soon. read more

Love this place! It was cute, casual, and charming on the inside. Our server was so attentive and helpful and gave us great menu recommendations. The food was fresh, modern, and delicious. For appetizers we had the tuna tartar--the lemon tamari ginger sauce was amazing and the calamari--was so light and crispy. For the main we got the cauliflower pizza (which I believe is seasonal)--it had roasted cauliflower, goat cheese, arugula, hot honey, and pistachios, and per our servers recommendation we added prosciutto which took it to another level. I've eaten here many times. It's always been good enough for a local place. I ordered a veggie burger. It had the piece of paper in it that separates the burgers when you buy them. I told the waiter. He spoke to his boss who told him to tell me "its just the wax paper that comes with the burger " Personally I think they should have discounted the meal but the boss thought just telling me what it was would be the correct response. Obviously i knew what it was. I certainly don't expect much from 121 anymore. At best, the burgers are ok when they don't include the paper. read more

Lovely restaurant with good wine choices. Caesar salad: good lettuce but not the traditional creamy dressing with shavings of parmesan. Rigatoni with sausage was delicious. Prosciutto and mushroom was also very good but with the truffle but was a little too much for my stomach. Good service. read more

This review is for their Thanksgiving Day family style meal. We booked our meal the day before Thanksgiving and we're very grateful they had room for us. We had adults, children and my elderly parents. My parents recently had a very bad round of Covid, and we nearly lost my Father 2 months earlier. As the holiday approached, we all wanted to celebrate, but all were exhausted and didn't feel up to the huge effort of hosting. We decided on 121 for our meal~and are so glad we did. They fit us in to their schedule, accommodated my dietary issues (DF and GF) and got us a delicious dinner and dessert. We weren't rushed or bothered, staff was incredibly nice, and even sent us home with the leftovers. It was wonderful to watch my Dad, who had previously been so sick and lost a lot of weight, enjoy 3 servings of dinner. We would like to thank 121 for their kindness this Thanksgiving. I must admit to being offended by the fact that the "hungry couple from Naugatuck" arriving at 4pm didn't get fed, and seem to think the restaurant is being mismanaged. Perhaps they can buy the place and put in a bar menu, or simply try calling ahead next time. Then they'd be sure to know service starts at 5pm, not 4pm! We live 45 minutes away and only get to visit occasionally, BUT we have known manager James Brown for more than a decade. He is, as his resume would attest, one of the most competent and customer-centric managers we have ever encountered. In fact, James is the main reason we drive 45 minutes to eat here, although the food is pretty darn good, too. Mr. Brown's previous engagements included a multi-year stint at the venerable Crabtree Kittle House, an extremely successful run at the Granite Springs Inn (now Somers 202) and prior to those a mutli-year run here at 121. Allright, so we really like James a lot. But the restaurant has a wonderful menu, a deep and reasonably priced wine list. On the negative side, it is packed on weekends, so be sure to make a reservation and bring your patience. Or, try 121 during a quieter weekday night, and get the personal attention you crave. Do not show up on a jamming Friday, put in a dinner order at 6:55 and expect to be fed by 7:30. The bar is a great spot for drinks and conversation, and during dinner hours can get 2-3 deep, hence the inability to serve food there. Let James guide you to a nice wine & food pairing. We had a wonderful meal. The staff is excellent. Greeted immediately with a smile and they accommodated a simple request with a package I had. The atmosphere is casual with great natural light , not too noisy and comfortable seating. Pizza is highly recommended as well cauliflower and shrimp appetizers. Local produce especially Watson Farm mushrooms truly enhance the menu. Our waitress was delightful and the manager was so friendly. I am not normally in this neck of the woods, but I was in the area and we were looking for a dinner spot. Based on the direction we were heading, we picked this spot and I'm glad we did! We started off with complimentary bread - a basket of pretzel croissants accompanied by sweet whipped butter! I could eat these all day! They were nicely done, texture was light and flaky, and tasted buttery and savory! For the mains, we shared the Kale & Avocado Salad to start. It was light and fresh. I can't say it was refreshing or tasty but we ordered heavier entrees so it was nice to break from the croissants and eat clean before digging into the hot dishes. Off the specials menu, we ordered the Fig & Prosciutto Pizza (with prosciutto on the side per our request for non-pork eaters). The pizza was thin-crust and tasted great with or without the prosciutto, which were extremely thin-crisp pieces like small chips and unfortunately didn't add any flavor to the pizza which thankfully we loved on its own. From their regular menu, we ordered the Shrimp & Grits, Crispy Tempura Chicken, and a side of Truffle fries. The chicken dish needs a dip, sauce, or simply some seasoning. Eating the chicken was similar to eating chicken tenders plain - after awhile it's just plain rough on the throat, dry and boring. The Shrimp & Grits were the highlight of the meal. That dish alone wins 5 starts which brings up this review. Grits to me are typically bland but accompanied by the sweet chili marinated shrimp, they were quite tasty. For dessert we thought the lemon-lavender crème brulee sounded interesting and it was very aromatic (if you like lavender) and refreshing. Ate at the bar 9/11/13, did they change glasses ? My $7 draft beer was brought to me in a 8oz glass. Are you kidding me? Smallest beer I have ever been served. Had to deduct 1 star. Excellent meal and bar selections. Try the shrimp band grits original and delicious.
