My wife and I dined there in January 2025 and then again in January 2026 to celebrate our winter anniversary. We stayed at the beautiful Beauport hotel and this place is right inside next to their incredible bar that must seat 30-40 people. Anyways, we love seafood and this has an ocean blue oyster bar which wasn't too well attended but most the tables were busy and full. Wife went with the swordfish and I had broiled scallops but a bit disappointed it was only 4 of them, although they were good sized ones. Served with baked potato and broccoli which I also enjoyed. Very kind to let us celebrate with a compiimentary glass of champagne which was very much appreciated. Service was solid and efficient. Must say that this is located overlooking Gloucester harbor and the ocean views are spectacular there. Very comfortable and pleasing place to spend time. read more

We called a 2 weeks before 7/3 and made reservations for 6 for our anniversary. They called me the day before, to reconfirm. I also spoke to them in between with specific questions on valet parking. When we arrived in Gloucester...the city was shut down due to a horribles parade. A parade which anyone that lives or works in Gloucester would be aware of. The 1606 failed to mention that all the streets would be closed down and there would be no way to get anywhere near them. We spoke to police at several blocked roads, and they all said the same thing, you're getting no where near there. You can find a spot and walk ( Over 1 mile- 97 degrees out ). We called the restaurant to ensure they weren't going to charge us for missing our reservation... and the woman that answered the phone, had no clue what was going on... acted like it was business as usual. I know that the 2 other couples had ALSO called and asked if there was any alternatives, a later reservation perhaps... and had brought up the blocked streets to this same person. Absolutely horrible customer service. Get a clue, and start telling people for 7/3 reservations.... about a late evening parade that will shut down the streets for hours. Ridiculous. read more

We visit several times per year and always enjoy having a few drinks, taking in the view and sharing small plates from an extensive selection. This week's first visit since January found a new chef and a significantly shrunken shareable menu. Stuffed clams, gone. Crab dip, gone. Meatballs, gone. Fish croquettes, gone. The food we had was still very good, but we absolutely missed the variety of options. Will we be back? Considering this restaurant is inside a hotel, it is very unfortunate how little they care about offering a menu that has options for those with dietary restrictions. I called and talked to a manager Emily who sounded like she could care less about making accommodations for a vegan diet. I was basically told we are not a vegan restaurant and you can have the falafel. It takes so little to have a menu that has an entree for all. I will take my money elsewhere. read more

Perfect Holiday Party Venue We hosted a "friends" holiday party fireside at The Beauport Hotel and it was absolutely wonderful. Emily (Restaurant AGM) was fantastic helping with the planning, with Gail (Hostess Manager) stepping in seamlessly to ensure everything ran smoothly, staying way over her already long shift. Chef Jon and his team delivered incredible food, and our servers, Katie and Chelsea, were so attentive and went way out of their way to ensure we had a wonderful time throughout the evening. The Beauport Hotel setting is truly magical -- it genuinely feels like Christmas the moment you walk in. The décor is beautiful, the atmosphere inviting, and the team clearly cares about creating special experiences. We also hired local piano player Jack Favazza, who added the perfect festive touch. I had my wedding dinner here and it was magical! Jessica helped prepare for the evening and was in touch a couple months before, sorting out details with me. I had an intimate dinner with 12 people in the private room and Arwen was our server. She was so excellent; she was warm, attentive and knowledgeable. The table was set beautifully and met every expectation. Everyone really enjoyed their meals, especially the oysters and french fries! When we arrived, we were greeted by our server, Libby W., who knew this was a special occasion, and we got a very private booth. Libby is one of the best servers we have had! We had already decided that this would be a night to try the Champlain Tower, with assorted seafoods including clams, oysters, shrimp, haddock ceviche, crab claws, and lobster tail. It was fresh and delicious. we drank an Austin Hope Chardonnay, perfectly crisp for the seafood. We were served warm oatmeal bread with sweet onion butter as well. After the seafood tower, we completed the meal with the Korean chicken meatballs and fried calamari with peppers. For dessert, we took Libby's suggestion and had the Banana Trifle. It was extraordinary. Throughout the evening, the pace of the service was excellent. We had time to completely enjoy the seafood, and when we had enjoyed it, and only then, were we asked what else we might like. Although we did not NEED a dessert, we devoured the banana trifle with pleasure. We've dined at the 1606 a handful of times over the last few years and it's such a gamble. We've had an awesome experience with brunch in the summer outside on the deck with our young kids but then last night experienced subpar service and food when out with friends. I wish the consistency was there for this to be a solid choice always but that hasn't been our experience. Last night items were missing from our seafood tower and our waitress forgot to bring drinks a few times, our table had a few folks unhappy with their entree dishes but some pleased. For the location inside the Beauport and the prices I would expect a higher caliber of service. read more

Great food, even better views! Service is good too, we went for brunch on a Tuesday morning. The menu is varied and comprehensive for a hotel breakfast, there was also a buffet available. I picked a croissant sandwich with bacon on thee side and avocado added, we also got an everything bagel with lox added. They forgot to put the bacon on the side for mine, noticed it before I said anything when the food was brought to the table, and redid the egg for me which was very nice. The croissant sandwich and the side potatoes (seasoned to perfection) were each very good, they happened to have excellent croissants which is a rarity on the north shore. Parking was also very easy, they have their own lot and there's another public lot down the street. The ambience is spectacular. The view is amazing and there's ample outdoor seating. read more

My fiancé brought me to this hotel for our anniversary and 1606 (the hotel restaurant) was strongly recommended to us by friends. Make sure to call ahead to make reservations if you're heading there for dinner especially on a weekend! Okay so...where to begin. Everything was so good we came back twice already and I'll bring every Boston visitor I have here!! We ordered the crab cake which was large and had a hearty amount of crab meat. Between the two of us the crab cake and delicious clam chowder (large size) were sufficient for dinner and we ended up having to take our entree to go we were so full! The house tartar sauce was perfection. We loved the half bottle of wine option and views were amazing despite a bit of a stormy weekend. Been coming to this restaurant since the hotel opened. Food has always been amazing with a unbelievable appetizer/small plate selection for seafood and non seafood people.Just recently came to dinner here with friends who have never been here and was so disappointed with the menu. Appetizers catered to people who like seafood, we had some non seafood eaters with us. Found a cheese board and oredered that. MOST disappointing if you like lots of blue cheese and a goat cheese (it was very strong, if that makes sense. I guess just not a really good one), cut up sweet pickles lots of designer lettuce, few almonds, and crostini for $27 then go for it. The type cheese is not listed on the menu and i guess from what I was told its whatever the chef has at that time is what will be on the cheese board. So I recommend you ask. 2 years ago the cheese board was outstanding 4 types of cheeses (the goat cheese was amazing) and it easily was shared among 6 adults. We were told there is a new chef when we asked about things that use to be on the menu. 2 of us got the haddock and it was dry, how in Gloucester can you mess up fish! I could go on. The food was not up to the elegant hotel standard you would think u are going to get and its on the higher price side. The 3 stars are for the restaurant, I recommend going to another for dinner there are so many great less expensive ones down the street. I recommend the restaurant/owner look back 5-6yrs at the menu, it was amazing, even the locals ate there a lot and recommended it highly. Not sure why it has continued go downhill over the years. I will however say the hotel itself and the workers (valet, desk, hostess, bar, and wait staff) are a good 5, very attentive pleasant and a joy to be around. The bar itself is great and all the bartenders know their stuff and come up with some great cocktails. This restaurant more than likely doesn't need my review because it is a well known spot in Gloucester. But I have been here many times now and not leaving a review feels rude. First, I would like to say that all of the wait staff is wonderful. They are very nice and top notch professionals. The indoor ambiance is nice and comfortable but the outdoor deck is the place to be with fireplaces, heat lamps, mushrooms and personal table fireplaces. The mood is rich and waterfront property. But that doesn't mean a regular Joe won't have a great time here. Things to note: the appetizers are gargantuan in size so be ready to share. The short rib appetizer can easily be a meal and you must have the pear salad or the fig salad. These two dishes will convert any carnivore into eating clean. But the short rib is reasonably priced and a creatively delicious dish. The dinner offering change because the seafood is fresh. So over the summer I had a tuna meal that was caught the same day. I have never tasted tuna so fresh and I love sushi. I had a pasta dish once and it wasn't my cup of tea but the haddock carousel is delish! But to be honest the appetizers are very creative. The dinner options are delicious seafood and steak options. The vegetable pairings are also to be praised. Go 9 months of the year when you can be outside. Nothing beats the beach view and the whole beachfront atmosphere. The food is worth it but the entire experience is a must. I forgot to mention, if you're a fan of Wicked Tuna, you have a good chance of seeing the captains eating here. My friend visited from NYC and I brought him because he is a huge fan and BOOM! Local here... usually eat here regularly over the summer and fall. Tonight was my first experience with the new menu and I found it very disappointing and below standard quality and selection. I'm told, new chef, new menu. No more of those delicious thick Angus burgers and those yummy squishy French fries. Only a smash burger offering and most plates come with only flavorless shoe string fries. I ordered the mussels which was a much smaller portion with hardly any flavor. Previous ones were always spicy and enough to split as an appetizer. Prices have gone up and despite good service and ocean view, I won't be going back unless they improve the menu. Why remove some of the best and most popular items? There are plenty of other good restaurants to choose from in Gloucester without paying high prices for small portions and lesser quality. Such a shame, because for 7 years this was one of our favorite places to hang out. Don't be afraid to explore elsewhere and maybe Beauport will get the message! read more

We ventured up to Gloucester on Sunday to enjoy the slightly cooler weather. It was mid-70s and perfect to sit outside overlooking the water and have a delish breakfast! We were too early for "brunch," but their breakfast options were very satisfying; we actually ordered too much, *gasp*! We started with juice and water, then ordered the fisherman's omelet, which had tri-colored perfectly sauteed bell peppers, onions, lots of cheese, and spicy linguica! Along with that, we had to try the lobster benedict, which was a lobster cake, perfectly poached egg, more lobster meat, and a Newburg sauce. The "home" fries looked like homemade potato chips at first glance, but they had a neat "puffiness" while still being crispy; what the what?!?! And the seasoning was just right; we didn't need to dip them in anything, but we found out they are super yummy in the Newburg sauce! The yogurt parfait is quite large! Lots of seeds, granola, nuts on top of mixed fruit, and vanilla yogurt with honey! We def could not finish everything and probably could have done with one entre and the yogurt, lol. I had the most amazing lunch at 1606 the other day with my sister-in-law! We were greeted by Gail, happy and smiling as always! Everyone else was also just as friendly. It was my sister-in-laws first time there so Gail chose a table by the window. Kathy was so sweet as she walked us over. Vanessa was such a great server! Greeted us right away and brought us some refreshing water. We couldn't decide on what to get and Vanessa was very patient answering all our questions. We both got the smash burger...so good! Then we followed it up with a slice of the coconut cake. I was worried it would be too big and we would need a take-out container but Vanessa explained it's "just the right size" for dessert. And she was right! There was also a delicious scoop of mango sherbet on the side. Yum! We both ate every last bite....really, really good! I also recommend the non-alcoholic beverages. I got the "no proof, no problem", which tasted like a pina colada...very tasty! And then I got the cupcake drink with the coconut cake. They went very well together! I would not go out of my way to eat here based on the food, but its great when you are staying at the hotel, and the seating on the porch with the water views is gorgeous. The lobster roll - $40. We got is cold with mayo. It was good! It comes with a side of sliced potato fries. The roll was a bit dense. The beet salad - delicious except for the beets! They had such a strong clove flavor, it burned my mouth. I had to eat around them. The cheese platter was fun post dinner. We liked the goat and the cheddar, but not the blue. The candied nuts were delicious, as was the candy and crackers (we ran out of crackers before we finished the cheese). It also came with an olive tapenade and something that looked like figs, but was not sweet. read more

Usually love to go to this place with my family and we celebrate a loved one who is no longer with us. Called about a reservation and the woman who answered the phone was unbelievably rude. I asked about available reservation times. I wasn't done speaking... she tried to cut me off, made a rude noise, then says "OK, my turn now!" Then proceeds to say they have no reservations at any time of day or night. Doesn't offer any other options or suggestions. No kindness. Like, excuse me? Are you high and mighty? To put it simply, everything but view was terrible. It was 82 degrees and we wanted to sit on the patio. We stood at the host stand for at least ten minutes, watched 3 or 4 servers walk by as they averted their eyes and didn't acknowledge us. Finally we're seated and my friend asked if we could move to the area next to us (maybe 3 feet away). Within seconds, a couple left also right next to us and they were sitting in ocean facing rocking chairs. Of course we moved there. The server came by and very rudely said "uh, did a host put you there?" And proceeded to go greet the people next to us (who'd been there maybe a minute.). She brought us water (no ice) and while bringing the neighbors cups filled with ice (again 82 degrees in October). We ordered food and both the tuna tartare and the stuffed clams were awful. Tuna was minimal but the giant rice cake was huge and flavorless. The stuffed clams were fishy and I couldn't eat them. We spent over $120 to look at the ocean and be insulted by terrible service and inedible food. read more

The bread is healthy and extra tasty with the chipotle honey butter. The crab cake and octopus were delicious. The Allen's Brothers' New York strips were delicious and tastier than a nearby favorite steakhouse. We supplemented with the New England fries which are delicious and not greasy. We are frequent visitors to 1606 restaurant and always have a lovely time, but our recent experience was very disappointing. Our server, Shilo, was incredibly rude and condescending our entire dining experience. She forgot our orders and acted incredibly rude when we wanted to get more drinks and other orders. No one ever checked in on us to see if our food was okay even though we had several requests that needed attendance. We would have left a lower tip but an automatic tip for a large party was added. WOW! Was I ever fortunate to help plan, host and attend back-to-back events at 1606 Restaurant & Oyster Bar recently! We had the BEST parties and viewing area in all of Gloucester for the Greasy Pole, Seine Boat Races and 3rd of July Fireworks, everything was simply incredible! A special thanks to Chef Jon McKechnie, Emily Moore-AGM, Katie Irving-Mixologist, Ray Johnston-Managing Director of Beauport Hospitality Group and the entire 1606 Team for putting on such wonderful back-to-back events, they could not have been better and a most memorable time had by ALL! We had perfect weather for both days/nights...combine this with fabulous food carefully curated with Chef Jon and Emily Moore, popular signature drinks created by Katie Irving, then layer in some of the best co-workers, friends and family anyone could wish for! Everyone had an AMAZING time, and was reinforced by never-ending positive texts and calls I received following each event (lasting memories)! Food highlights from our events: 1606's Famous Raw Bar, Cheese and Charcuterie Board, Pavillion and Korean Chicken Sliders, Pizza, Fried Clams, Baked Haddock, Pasta Bolognese, Fried Fish Nuggets, Chicken Tenders, Beauport Fries, Cookies and Brownies! Chef Jon and his team outdid themselves, Emily did a wonderful job with set-up and course timing and Katie with her terrific smile providing great beverage and food service! Behind the scenes, the team pitched in as "Raw Bar Handlers", keeping the gulls at bay, in addition to supporting Katie and Emily throughout both events!
