We visited 17 River Grille for my mom's birthday (her suggestion, as she had previously been there for lunch), and it turned out to be an excellent choice. We had an amazing experience. Per our request, our party of six was seated on the outdoor patio overlooking the Chagrin River waterfall, which made for a beautiful setting. One thing to note: you cannot reserve patio seating in advance, but you can request it upon arrival if space is available. We started with four appetizers: *Heavenly Biscuits - AMAZING. *Short Rib Potstickers - Excellent. *Spinach Artichoke Dip - Excellent. *Grilled Artichoke - Good, but not really my style of dish. For entrées, we tried several different items: *Grilled Fish of the Day (Grouper) - Excellent, although the portion was on the smaller side. *Lake Erie Walleye Fish & Chips - Very good. *Thai Steak Noodle Salad - Excellent. *Steak and Frites - Excellent. We also ordered two sides: *Coleslaw - Very good. Is it the best coleslaw I've ever had? No. Is it excellent and worth ordering? Absolutely. *Roasted Baby Yukons - Excellent. Since we were celebrating a birthday, the restaurant graciously provided a complimentary dessert sundae. While the gesture was appreciated, I do wish guests were given a choice of dessert. The sundae was fine, but with several outstanding ice cream shops nearby, the ice cream itself was fairly average. Service was quick and efficient overall. There were a few minor areas for improvement: Wet naps would have been appreciated, as we had to request extra napkins multiple times throughout the meal. Service slowed down a bit during the dinner rush. The steak entrée arrived noticeably later than the rest of the main courses, which may have been due to the kitchen being overwhelmed. It also took a little longer than expected to receive extra plates when requested. These were relatively minor issues, however, and did not significantly detract from the evening. Overall, this was an excellent dining experience with great food, a beautiful patio overlooking the waterfall, and solid service. We would gladly return and would certainly recommend it for special occasions or a nice evening out. read more

Went to 17 River Grille for brunch and it was absolutely delicious! The chicken and waffles were definitely the star of the meal -- perfectly cooked, flavorful, and such a great brunch choice. First time here. Tried to make last a minute dinner reservation for 6 on Thursday night, but they had no tables. They suggested that if we're willing to dine late, walk-ins are welcome after 8:30PM. So we arrived at 8:30 sharp and were seated immediately at a table with a very nice view overlooking the falls. The food: I started off with a lobster bisque. Exquisite! Just the perfect consistency, creaminess, flavor, with generous chunks of lobster meat. My main course was filet mignon. I asked for medium-rare. It came a little closer to medium, but I'm not complaining. It was tender and juicy, topped with crispy onion straws, and served with mashed potatoes (very good!), broccoli, For dessert, our table shared carrot cake, key lime pie, and a "post-mortem" chocolate cake with coffee ice cream. Visited today for lunch, and it was a great experience! The atmosphere inside is very beautiful and lively. The restaurant was well lit and very clean. We sat near the bar because we weren't the only ones craving lemon parmesan chicken, the place was packed! Service was speed and our server was attentive and polite. It's a beautiful sunny day in Chagrin Falls. A perfect day to sit in "17 River" and enjoy a view of the falls. We made an impromptu stop during a stroll through town just to have a glass of wine and small lunch. We enjoyed a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and shared an order of Deviled Eggs. I had a Heart of Palm salad and my wife enjoyed the Lobster Bisque. Everything was excellent. Sarah, or server was very friendly and efficient. She did an excellent job. The falls and river were beautiful. It was a wonderful outing. We're looking forward to visiting again soon. read more

Fun! Visited 17 River Grille in chagrin falls Ohio on a sunny July 29th for a friend's birthday for happy hour on the patio. Very lively, lots of people dining throughout the place, and many people choosing the bar. It's clear of why as well. They have a lot more selection for happy hour than many other places. You can get a hamburger and fries for $13 and drinks for under 10. I had a large sushi roll in my friend had potstickers that were excellent. Very reasonable. For for drinks and two meals that were fully satisfying, the bill was under 80 with a tip! Our server, Sabrina, was friendly and adorable, and displayed having fun making drinks. While the patio is casual, this restaurant is situated for the views of the chagrin falls, and makes her a great upscale dining if you go into the full dining room. The patio vibe was engaging and great for a summer occasional outing, happy hour is a great $ deal. I'd like to go back soon. read more

We returned for a second time to 17 River Grill. Again views were outstanding staff was very friendly and of course the food was just as good. My wife had salmon on a cedar plank and absolutely loved it. I got the walleye and it was very good. The food was very fresh, hot and seasoned perfectly. We will definitely return again. read more

Granted we didn't have dinner, this seems like a place where you're paying for ambience and service, not necessarily quality of food. We ended our night here with dessert and coffee and for a highly rated restaurant, desserts typically reflect your food quality and we were disappointed. The crème brûlée had heaps of sugar almost like they forgot to finish the toasting process. The brownie dessert I had was no different than a Dairy Queen Sunday. Bland flavor, cold brownie yet weirdly in a cast iron skillet, but the fudge made it better. Sitting by the windows is the spot to be and the waterfall is gorgeous. We started off with the spinach and artichoke dip. The top cheese layer was ~1/3 inch thick and to hard to eat. I also had the French onion soup, which must've been made by the same cook because the cheese was so thick and hard I couldn't get to the broth. I even tried to use a knife and it didn't work. It boasted so many flavors and textures, it passed hitting the mark! But even better than the food was the most charming and attentive server, Angiolina! She notified us of any delays, apologized for nothing within her control and was just a pleasure. I am highlighting her because we are regulars at all of the Doody family restaurants and although our favs are Cedar Creek Grille, Bar Italia and Jojo's, I would return time and time again to 17 River for sweet Angiolina! The view is incredible from the outdoor patio, from the lower level and from the dining room. The upstairs level was more packed but because this was my first time in Cleveland we took in patio vibes. So glad we did! Food was great! Service was great! Ambiance was great!!! The burger wasn't special but it was a really good burger. The chicken dish was good and had a lemon caper taste to it. I'd recommend getting a side as it does not come with a side outside of the salad. The decor was wonderful and sitting out near the waterfall was great. After brunch (if it's not raining) you can go explore more businesses as it is a walkable area with other small and locally owned businesses in the area. Because it was raining, we left after brunch. Also, it is paid parking (meter) so keep that in mind. Overall great experience. Definitely check this spot out! read more

The service was great with no delays and refills without asking. The ambience is very nice right alongside the river. The restaurant is clean with many windows for a river view. Food wise I had a cheeseburger with fries and it was just average or acceptable. The fries were not hot enough and a little soggy and the burger was a little dry. It was cooked to my order and did taste ok. Was here for a late lunch so would probably come back to try other dishes at dinner time. My wife and I split a Caesar salad which was good. For her main course my wife had the Short Rib. The meat was very tender, juicy and flavorful. We took my daughter for her 13th birthday to this restaurant. She is a fan of their brunch, specifically the chicken and waffles. However, upon arrival our assigned table and section was infested with flies. We were told by the waitress, the manager stated there is nothing they can do about it. We would of left, but I knew it would ruin my daughter's birthday wish to eat there.
