when I landed, I was craving turkey wings. I went to Google and I found this restaurant. I parked in front went into an awesome vibe. The ambience was amazing. There was a DJ there as soon as I walked in I got their full attention fortunately for me it was the week that they made turkey wings. Unfortunately, they weren't ready and I was jetlagged so I could not wait. Again the atmosphere was amazing if I lived in Milwaukee, this would be a spot that I frequent. When the bill came, I did not have my glasses. I gave my credit card and also gave a tip. Once I got to my hotel, I realized that there was an 18% service fee added to a takeout order on top of me leaving a $8.26 tip. Take out-oxtails-$52.31total. $32 oxtails chicken dressing and cabbage an extra $20 to take it out the door,, . The chicken dressing and cabbage was fantastic. The oxtails just taste like salt not over salty but no other seasoning just salt one note. Whenever I'm in my Milwaukee, I don't think that I can return based on takeout with 18% charged . I may never know what the turkey wings taste like but a little soy sauce and vinegar to the oxtails would've made a huge difference or paprika or pepper. If you decide to try, ask before you buy for one person service charge.

Well, me and my family went to 1700 pull up for "soul food Sunday" And I really wanted to like this place but There were a few issues. We arrived around 3 o'clock and they're open until six, service seems very slow after ordering our food It took at least 30 minutes before it arrived at our table. They have a very limited menu with like only three options for your main meal (4pc fried/baked chicken, 2pc Cajun fried catfish, or beef pot roast w/mashed potatoes,) and of course that's not counting sides. But they were already out of chicken, so that limited us to only two options for dinner. I had the pot roast which was OK at best. It wasn't hot nor was it cold. It was more like Luke warm. And so was my sides, which was mac & cheese and "cornbread" which is considered a side for some reason. my wife had the pot roast with greens and cornbread for her sides and my mother just had corn and like with my food theirs was also lukewarm. It was very cold in there. My wife had to sit in there with her coat and hat on the whole time, she ordered some hot cocoa to try and help her warm up because they kept the inside door open. And there was a constant flow of people in and out of the outside door which consistently let cold air in. We asked if they could close the inside door which they did for about three minutes then it was propped open again. I also did not feel like I received the value for the price we paid for our "dinners". All dinners are $30 and that includes two sides, (counting cornbread) and that's before you add the price of any drinks you may want I may try them again on another day like turkey leg Thursday, (but will only order to go) but I definitely won't be back for the so-called "soul food" Sunday

We pulled up just as the restaurant was opening for Saturday brunch and were the first and only patrons. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Nice to see the restaurant as one of several businesses along the block helping to revitalize the neighborhood. A DJ was spinning 80's and 90's tunes, clean and nicely decorated. Be sure to check the menu online or note it changes daily. Took a little longer to receive our order but as the sign says on the door "Good food, not fast food". Wife ordered catfish and grits. Decent size of catfish and well seasoned. Grits were ok. She rated her order a 7/10. I had the chicken and waffle which came with 3 chicken strips and 2 waffles. Chicken well seasoned and hot, waffles were warm and a little harder than I prefer but overall tasty. I gave my order a 7/10. Also ordered lemon drop cocktail from the all day happy hour menu for 3 bucks. Decent size, good taste and a 9/10. Wife ordered peach cobbler for dessert. Good amount of peaches but not enough crust. Wife felt it needed more nutmeg but still tasty and we give it 7/10. We were there about 90 mins and more patrons began to arrive. My only negative is when we paid our check, the restaurant adds a surcharge for dining on Saturday which should be posted or told when ordering. Hmmmm, the waiter said it's due to how busy the restaurant is on Saturdays. Overall good vibes, clean restaurant, friendly staff, good music and good food. A much needed establishment in this area of the city. I would visit again and you should give it a try.

Cat fish, greens and chicken dressing-- yes it's better than it looks. The picture doesn't do justice

I've frequented this spot quite a few times over the last year and have come to appreciate this gem for the good music, the staff, and of course the food. Go before it gets late cuz they do run out of different things later in the day. I'm all for the turkey leg day but I'm really a fan of the soul food Sundays which is the only day you can get the fried cabbage. I could go on about the food. Really have not had anything I did not like. I've brought friends and they have not been disappointed

This place has amazing food! OMG, reminds me of the good old days, hanging with my Memaw and Grandaddy! Food that relaxes the soul! We had Gumbo, Catfish, and Alfredo... Recommending anything on the menu, they do an amazing job in the kitchen! Loved it!

Once inside, the friendly host staff will ask you for the password. Heck, if I can figure it out, anyone can. Then we were shown to the table. Riley, server, had greet us shortly after arriving. My friend order an Old Fashion (when you're in WI...) and I had ordered the Shamrock Shake with a shot of whiskey (we visited Milwaukee near St. Paddy's Day). Both of us ordered the Fish Fry. The drinks were delivered within a few minutes. The Shamrock Shake was certainly well worth it. Then few more minutes, the entrees were delivered. The three pieces of fish were very meaty and great crust. The well seasoned fries were very tasty. Riley had checked in couple of times with us. Great service, great food and great 80's music. We got a 1pm time slot for lunch on Saturday. We waited in the small crowded lobby once we checked in. Once our time came up we gave the password (I must have missed this part but I googled it while we waited) and were led inside. The concept was fun as was the decor but I thought it would be even more kitschy than it was. Our waiter was enthusiastic. The food menu is small but the milkshake and the boozy milkshake menu is big and interesting. The salted caramel milkshake was very good. I got their smash burger basket with the fries. I don't order smash burgers often and this was a reminder why. It was overcooked and dry. The fries though were excellent. My wife got a breakfast meal and she thought it was solid. The prices were reasonable but be warned they automatically tack on a 20% service charge. I was not surprised since I saw this in reviews. If it was on the menu I missed it. Worth one visit.

As soon as I walked up to the window, I was warmly greeted and asked if it was my first time there. I was offered a sample (which alone is a win), and she even asked about allergies, food sensitivities, and whether I minded my food touching..which made me laugh because my sister is that person. That level of attention really stood out. I sampled the mac and cheese, greens, and yams, and while I was eating, she took the time to walk me through menu options and current specials without rushing me at all. Once I placed my order, the great service kept going, she asked if I wanted ice in my drink, checked how much sauce I wanted on my rib tips, offered condiments, hot sauce, and made sure I had everything I needed. I usually don't tip on takeout orders, but I absolutely did this time because the hospitality and customer service were that good. The food was delicious, but the experience is what really sold it for me. It's hard to find genuinely good customer service these days, and people are quick to leave complaints but slow to give praise. So this is my shout-out. I enjoyed the food, the hospitality, and the overall experience, and I can definitely see myself coming back.

We quite literally came here straight from the airport. To make matters worse, we had not eaten anything substantial all day and had actually looked this restaurant up weeks before our trip while researching places to eat the infamous Wisconsin fish fry, so we were really looking forward to the experience. The experience started off poorly when our party was essentially scolded by the hostess for sitting at a table that apparently needed to be cleaned for the wait list. To make matters worse, the busser laughed and joked that we were "in trouble," to which I could only respond, "Sounds like it." Not exactly the welcoming atmosphere you'd hope for as a first time visitor. The fish fry was decent our tab came out to $150 for 5 people, but the service was absolutely subpar and our tip reflected that. We also had to send back two drink glasses because they were dirty one still had lipstick on it, and another had food stuck to the inside of the glass. Overall, this was a very disappointing dining experience. Between the unprofessional treatment, lackluster service, and cleanliness issues, I would not recommend stopping here. There are plenty of other restaurants worth trying instead.

Hats off to their host for being friendly and even a little entertaining and I like that you can order coffee at the register area and drink it while you wait. Too bad you can't get a cocktail out there. The menu sounded great and we were ravenous so we were excited to order. By the time we were seated we were limited to about 40 minutes to get to a ticketed event, all in. I told that to our waitress so she could pace the meal accordingly. While I understand that she can't control the kitchen time, I don't think she showed any expediency or attention to my statement. Spoiler alert - we were late. Two of us ordered the biscuits to start with jam. I was happy to try them and they were good. My coffee based martini hit the spot, but it was spilled a little when it hit the table and our server didn't say anything or wipe it off. My mom liked her bloody Mary and it was decent. When our food came I was immediately disappointed by the appearance. My chilaquiles looked like they had sat under a heat lamp for ages - the egg was dried and over firm. My chips were spicy, but 100% soggy and nasty. My black beans were - meh. Not a good dish overall. My mom actually didn't find fault with her Honeypie Benedict. I tried the hollandaise and it was fine. My cousin did not enjoy her Hopple Popple skillet at all. (Potatoes, bacon, caramelized onion, mushroom, bell pepper, cheddar, two scrambled farm eggs) She found it difficult to find any egg, as it was apparently shrunk into tiny bits. The potatoes were like fries and it was overall bland. Not a winner. We certainly won't be back. The dishes don't live up to the interesting descriptions of them and the hype seems to be from an earlier, better time for this restaurant.
