Me and a couple of friends visited on a hot Saturday. I ordered the catfish dinner and they ordered chicken and chicken and waffles. There was a DJ while we were there and it was a good backdrop to our drinks while we waited for our food. I enjoyed my catfish and my friends enjoyed their food as well. The food came out piping hot which I really appreciated. It really helped us to continue to enjoy the flavors and throughout our meal. I stopped into 1700 Pull Up on a Sunday after church with my partner, and we were very pleased with our visit. There was a DJ playing some good music, TVs playing NFL games, and we were able to sit down immediately. We both ordered the Fried Catfish with steamed cabbage, greens, and sweet potato cornbread. The staff were great, although our food took a little long to come out. However, it was worth the wait! The catfish was savory, greens and cabbage cooked perfectly, and the cornbread melted me internally. I am willing to wait a little longer for good food, especially if that means supporting a local establishment in Milwaukee. Check it out! I'm not going to lie, I am REALLY surprised that this place doesn't have more 5 star ratings. The music was 10/10, the food was 10/10 and the undisclosed entertainment was welcomed lol. If you're coming for a nice quiet meal, I definitely would skip this place. But if you're down for some super good food and drinks and some good music I would check this place out. The service was slow, but you can tell they cook the fish to order, so I didn't mind at all. Great place for some southern food. when I landed, I was craving turkey wings. I went to Google and I found this restaurant. I parked in front went into an awesome vibe. The ambience was amazing. There was a DJ there as soon as I walked in I got their full attention fortunately for me it was the week that they made turkey wings. Unfortunately, they weren't ready and I was jetlagged so I could not wait. Again the atmosphere was amazing if I lived in Milwaukee, this would be a spot that I frequent. When the bill came, I did not have my glasses. I gave my credit card and also gave a tip. Once I got to my hotel, I realized that there was an 18% service fee added to a takeout order on top of me leaving a $8.26 tip. Take out-oxtails-$52.31total. $32 oxtails chicken dressing and cabbage an extra $20 to take it out the door,, . The chicken dressing and cabbage was fantastic. The oxtails just taste like salt not over salty but no other seasoning just salt one note. Whenever I'm in my Milwaukee, I don't think that I can return based on takeout with 18% charged . I may never know what the turkey wings taste like but a little soy sauce and vinegar to the oxtails would've made a huge difference or paprika or pepper. It took another customer to get the owner to come out and check on us. At first we only offered free alcohol beverages. I declined because I do not drink alcohol. This restaurant was recommended by my daughter, so I tried it. The atmosphere was cool. My food order took one hour even though the weight staff told me 30 minutes. I decided to have my favorite drink lemon drop martini using goose vodka.The drink was so weak, it taste like water down lemonade. I did not drink it nor did the waitress asked me to pay for it. Well, me and my family went to 1700 pull up for "soul food Sunday" And I really wanted to like this place but There were a few issues. We arrived around 3 o'clock and they're open until six, service seems very slow after ordering our food It took at least 30 minutes before it arrived at our table. They have a very limited menu with like only three options for your main meal (4pc fried/baked chicken, 2pc Cajun fried catfish, or beef pot roast w/mashed potatoes,) and of course that's not counting sides. But they were already out of chicken, so that limited us to only two options for dinner. I had the pot roast which was OK at best. It wasn't hot nor was it cold. It was more like Luke warm. And so was my sides, which was mac & cheese and "cornbread" which is considered a side for some reason. my wife had the pot roast with greens and cornbread for her sides and my mother just had corn and like with my food theirs was also lukewarm. It was very cold in there. My wife had to sit in there with her coat and hat on the whole time, she ordered some hot cocoa to try and help her warm up because they kept the inside door open. And there was a constant flow of people in and out of the outside door which consistently let cold air in. We asked if they could close the inside door which they did for about three minutes then it was propped open again. I also did not feel like I received the value for the price we paid for our "dinners". We pulled up just as the restaurant was opening for Saturday brunch and were the first and only patrons. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Nice to see the restaurant as one of several businesses along the block helping to revitalize the neighborhood. A DJ was spinning 80's and 90's tunes, clean and nicely decorated. Be sure to check the menu online or note it changes daily. Took a little longer to receive our order but as the sign says on the door "Good food, not fast food". Wife ordered catfish and grits. Decent size of catfish and well seasoned. Grits were ok. She rated her order a 7/10. I had the chicken and waffle which came with 3 chicken strips and 2 waffles. Chicken well seasoned and hot, waffles were warm and a little harder than I prefer but overall tasty. I gave my order a 7/10. Also ordered lemon drop cocktail from the all day happy hour menu for 3 bucks. Decent size, good taste and a 9/10. Wife ordered peach cobbler for dessert. Good amount of peaches but not enough crust. Wife felt it needed more nutmeg but still tasty and we give it 7/10. We were there about 90 mins and more patrons began to arrive. My only negative is when we paid our check, the restaurant adds a surcharge for dining on Saturday which should be posted or told when ordering. Hmmmm, the waiter said it's due to how busy the restaurant is on Saturdays. Overall good vibes, clean restaurant, friendly staff, good music and good food. I love that the owner went into a restaurant setting. I used to purchase dinners from her. The food is always really good. My favorite is Turkey Leg Thursday. It's the most tender fall off the bone Turkey. Went into the restaurant for the first time last week. Let me tell you we had a GREAT time. The service was great. Seemed like everyone that works there kept checking on us. Love that. The food was good too. My only complaint is that they pass off Swai as Catfish. Swai is not Catfish. Was very excited about going here only to be disappointed. You have to have a number just to get a drink. When our turkey legs came the greens were dirty, gritty and sandy! I only took 1 bite. The cook came from the back and told me they weren't gritty but mentioned that she DIDN'T wash them and they came straight out the bag which she should've kept to herself. Yesterday I went to 1700 pull up. I was very turned off by all of the greedy, petty, nickel and diming that was being charged. Before I even got through the front door there was a sign saying that there is a %11 "tip" added to any take-out orders. Why am I being charged a tip for a to go order? Since we were being charged a "tip" anyway, we sat down. As the server came to take our order we were told that there was an %18 tip added to any dine in order. Plus there would be an additional $3 charge to pay with my credit card. What is this, a gas station? Finally, I was able to order a turkey leg and 1 side. When I asked for my side on the side. (not slopped all over my turkey) I was told there is an additional $1 charge for that. At the end of the meal the server told us that the %18 tip that we were charged didn't go to her, but went to "the house" like a servicecharge, and if we wanted to tip her personally we would have to leave another tip in addition to the %18. The tragedy is that the food was good. If the management and/or owners weren't so darn greedy, petty & opportunistic, it would have been a good experience. Unfortunately they won't be in business long. They aren't taxing correctly, and to add an additional service charge and call it a "tip" (that goes to the house instead of the server) so it can't be taxed is illegal. Me and my fiancee pulled up on 1700 Pull Up soul food today and I have to say that the place was immaculately neat & clean and the music was good 90s R&B. we started with the martinis and my fiancee's martini was handshake and served in a classic martini glass... but for some odd reason my lemon drop martini was served to me in a cup? I overlooked it and said to myself it looks nice so I proceeded to take a sip and my lemon drop martini tasted like lemon water with no alcohol in it at all? well I wasn't there for the drinks anyway I was there to try out the soulfood which looked spectacular online. The young man who waited on us proceeded to take our orders and he was very mannerable & courteous. My fiancee ordered the catfish platter with a side of candied yams and chicken dressing and I ordered the oxtails over buttered rice with a side of mac & cheese and a side of green beans with smoked turkey. I must say the wait was a bit long but when the food finally showed up at our table I wasn't impressed with the look of the oxtails which was clumped on a bed of over buttered rice and when I took a taste the oxtails were tender but very salty and the texture of the gravy was thick & lumpy. But the side order of green beans with smoked turkey was full of flavor and very savory while the mac & cheese was so creamy & tasty... the two sides turned out to be the best dish on my plate while my fiancee's catfish dinner was off the chain! and her sides were amazing as well. next time I will choose the catfish platter and steer clear of the oxtails. but all in all I recommend 1700 Pull Up soulfood to anyone who is visiting Milwaukee wi and who is looking for good soul food. read more
