    Chicken pot pie

The value is great! Our food and drinks were very good, the flaky crust on the pot pie was gorgeous. My salad was big enough for dinner and lunch and the prices were reasonable. We had a nice bartender (eating at the bar, per usual).

We had attended a funeral earlier in the day. The after dinner get together was at the open flame. When we arrived at our table, there was a plate of olive oil and a bread basket with delicious soft bread arrived shortly after for us to dunk in. We had four choices for our dinner entrée. All of them sounded, and when they arrived at the dinner table, they looked and smelled absolutely delicious. I chose the wood smoked Greek chicken. It had such good lemony flavor, but not overpowering and I love the grill marks with a hint of smoke to it. It was served with garlic, red mashed potatoes absolutely delicious and roasted carrots and broccoli again absolutely delicious. We also had a salad and it was huge. the vegetables were all completely crunchy and fresh. Our waitress who helped all of us again for a funeral setting was very sweet and caring. I forgot her name, but I believe she went above and beyond our needs.

My financial advisor holds a ladies luncheon every year in February, for Valentines Day for his female clients. After a couple years and some staff changes in the office we resumed having it at the Open Flame. I think there was about 20 of us this year and they put us in a side room with a dedicated waitress and everything was perfect. The private space, the waitress, the food, everything were above par. They do serve breakfast all day, plus lunch and dinner menus. They even serve drinks and several ladies imbibed on Bloody Mary's and wine. I just had a diet pepsi and free refills were included. Soups of the day were a cream of spinach and chicken dumpling. They started us out with warm bread baskets and that was served with butter or an olive oil dipping sauce, the bread was very good but I only had 1 piece. Who wants to get full on bread when you have 2 more courses coming, right! I chose the cream of spinach soup and it was very creamy and delicious. For my entree I chose the chicken marsala. Served with a crab cake, garlic mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. I tried to finish it all but just couldn't do it. I will return soon to try the breakfast because some at the table had waffles and stuffed french toasts and they they looked amazing as well

Ok I'm done with this restaurant because my last two orders were messed up and today's order was seriously messed up. I called in for takeout and I wanted the Philly cheesesteak that comes with Swiss cheese and I ask the guy who took my order if I could have American cheese because I tell him that I hate Swiss cheese and he says yes. I also ask for mayo, lettuce, tomato and onion. When I get my food home and looked at it it has Swiss cheese which I explained to him that I hate. I look closer at the sandwich and it's only lettuce and tomato with no onions or mayo and the receipt states mayo but he didn't put the onions in my request that I specifically asked for, yeah maybe he thought that the grilled onions which comes on the sandwich was enough but as a restaurant you can't put 2 and 2 together that I'm asking for fresh burger toppings, guess not. Seriously how do you as an established restaurant completely F up a simple sandwich request and at the $21.43 price point for a sandwich with frys I expect a correctly made sandwich when I could have went to any fast food restaurant and got a sandwich and frys for half that price. What a complete fail, swing and a miss.

My wife and I went to Open Flame on Valentine's Day. It was decorated to fit the occasion. Balloons and red everywhere! We arrived for our 6:00 reservation a little late, but were seated immediately. Upon being seated, we noticed it was quite crowded and were prepared for a few bumps along the road. Our waiter came to our table relatively quickly. Gave us waters and asked if we wanted any drinks. My wife went with a Diet Pepsi and I ordered the Wisconsin old fashioned. When the drinks came we were ready to order and put in our food order. My wife always gets the New York strip, but wasn't positive how she wanted it prepared. The waiter suggested to get it a step lower because they could always recook it but you can't bring it back. So she went with medium (she later stopped the waiter to change it to medium well). She also noticed on the menu that she could get a Grecian side salad instead of the house side salad for $2.95 extra. She went with that and a side of French fries. I had never been to Open Flame but my wife was raving about their steaks. So I decided to follow suit. I got the New York strip steak cooked medium. I always get French onion soup with my steak, and I also decided on French fries. A few minutes later we get our salad and soup. Except that she was brought the dinner sized salad instead of the side salad. After mulling this over when the waiter came back to ask how the first few bites were we told him about the mix up. He said that he told us it would be an up-charge and we knew that going in. We told him about the fine print on the menu where it said it'd be a side salad. He went and found a manager and they went to the serving kiosk. The came back to the table and said that it would be adjusted on our bill. The salad was gigantic and had lots of feta, onions, bell peppers, and pepperoncinis. The French onion soup was very delicious as well. After looking around I noticed that all the tables around us had bread baskets and we didn't have one. When the waiter came to clear our plates and give us a box for the salad I asked for one and he said he'd get it. Shortly after that we got our steaks. One of them had a white stick in it to tell which steak was cooked which temp. I cut into the steak without the stick and told my wife we had to switch, and we were very glad we did. Her steak was cooked a wonderful medium well and the medium steak was cooked very well and the center was still warm. The fries were quite delightful and the vegetables were cooked very well too. The vegetables just needed a touch of salt and pepper. The bread came at the same time as our dinners and it was welcomed because it was warm and pillowy inside but the crust had a nice firmness to it. It was great to sop up the steak juice on the plate. The experience was pretty good all things considered, it was a busy night with a lot going on. We both took some food home to enjoy later one. When the bill came we were anxious to see how much off they took from the dinner salad. They made it right and gave it to us for the price of the side salad upgrade. It was a 30 minute drive for us and we talked on our walk back to the car that we would indeed be back, but not at such a premium time or date.

The server seemed like he didn't want to be there. The food was ok but my chicken pot pie was very greasy. My partner's steak was dry and vegetables were over cooked. Overall probably won't try this place again.

Pecan Encrusted Sea Bass with asparagus and red potatoes

Stopped in Saturday evening around 6 and it was packed! We were seated quickly but waited almost 10 minutes before a server acknowledged us, but once he did he was on it. We could see they were understaffed for the amount of business so we gave some grace. Our server brought bread right away and took our order quickly. The bread was fresh and hot from oven, delicious. My husband has the pecan crusted sea bass with roasted red potatoes with a salad. He said it was very good and cooked perfectly. His salad was fresh and good portion size. I had the cashew chicken schnitzel with mashed potatoes and the chicken was divine! The arugula, tomato's and cream sauce on it was perfect addition, only complaint was my potato's were cold. My daughter had the jumbo corn dog with fries and she enjoyed. Our meal was very reasonably priced; we were very pleased and will return again.

Luckily the patio was open & it was great weather plus we had a 2 month old with us so could make it easier to step out. Prices are a little steep for an area like Franklin/Greendale. Probably a "nice occasion" dinner than a once a week dinner. Anything with some sort of protein is at minimum $21. I got the Fried Perch Dinner. My dad got the Prime Rib. My wife got the Tenderloin Sandwich. The Prime Rib was massive, not awfully fatty but I wouldn't pay $45 for it but that is also bc I am frugal. However, if it was a special occasion then I'd splurge for it. Dinners come with a salad or soup, bread, potato, & zucchini & squash. This is alone why I didn't get one of the salads & instead got the fried perch. This was definitely 5* to me. Cooked great, great portions, & I love zucchini. I just think the cost on the whole menu is where I dock the point. If you're okay with $26 to $30 on a dinner then this is an A+ spot with high class decor & interior. Heck, even the kid's grilled cheese looked SUPERB!!! They use the bread in the picture & we joked that we wouldn't mind ordering that when we saw a family order two of them.

When I saw the location, I thought what a idilic setting to enjoy a Friday fish fry. On this particular Friday, we elected to sat outside and maybe should have known something was up when the hostess called us brave. Seemed weird but the patio was bustling with people all appearing to be having a good time. All I'll say is the website incredibly oversells the condition and setting of the patio. Online, everything looks well manicured and on point. In reality, their patio area is a mess. Weeds, both dead and alive are a plenty. Besides a few small hanging baskets, not many actual flowers brighten the patio space. Even the planters that were displayed highlight dead flowers. Oh what this space could be with a bit more attention. With regard to food, I ordered the perch fry. The pieces were so ginormous I mistook them for cod. I was assured it was perch. The breading was delicious and the fish flavor. The fries, sprinkled with Parmesan are ok. If I come back I may stick to the inside dining room since its decor outshines the outdoor space.

We went on a Thursday night and still needed to wait 40 minutes for a table. I didn't expect that since this place is a bit off the main corridor. I had been here several times, but my last visit was probably 8-10 years ago. I always forget about it since, like I said, it's off the Hales Corners corridor of Hwy 100, and a little too far east on Janesville Rd from main Muskego corridor. The place hasn't changed a bit on the inside. Still a semi-formal interior with plenty of seating in both the dining room and bar area. It can be a little loud when full, and having a conversation with my husband was quite difficult. That's a pretty typical experience in these older buildings though. Just something to keep in mind if you're looking for a quiet dinner location. I ordered salmon, my husband ordered a steak. We both had soup as a starter along with a relish tray and bread - both of which seem to be unlimited. I thought my salmon was cooked perfectly, though my mashed potatoes were watery tasting. My husband thought the same of his steak and potatoes. Not the worst thing in the world, but mashed potatoes are not hard to do properly so I was a little disappointed in that. Would I come here again? Probably. Our two dinners were more than $80 before tip, so it was an expensive night out. It's not a place we would add to our normal rotation, but it's a decent special occasion spot.
