Great place to hang out for drinks, entertainment and other activities. I have gone to several concerts at 1781, they being in a great variety of music. Also, they have a painter come in and has painting classes! I have made several paintings, they are so much fun. Best part is that there's, what I call, adult time. When children are expected to go home and adults can enjoy themselves. Sorry, I have four kids myself, but when I go out in the evening with my husband, kids running around ruins my night. I hired a babysitter so hunt and I can enjoy our time without kids. During the day, kids are welcome-with an adult. At night, it's 21 and over and I love it. I highly recommend 1781! read more

When they have live music playing, they charge you an extra 50¢ per drink and it rings up as an "entertainment glass". The service on the beer side was not good but, it thankfully didn't ruin the vibes and the scenery. It's a nice place to go to be outside and enjoy the view. However, I don't like the sneakiness of charging customers because the business chose to have live music. I'm torn on going back again because of that. It's not the 50¢ but it's the principle of false advertising prices on their menu and sneaky charges. read more

We've been supporting 1781 for years, but after tonight, we won't be back. Without any notice or warning, they've started kicking families out at 8:00 pm--even though the entire business is located on a farm with a playground and already has clearly marked adults-only areas. This place used to be known as family-friendly, but that's clearly no longer the case. On top of that, the beer is overpriced and honestly not that great. Now that they've made it clear that families aren't welcome, I can confidently say we--and a lot of other people we know--will be taking our business to Unionville. Kids are part of society too, and for parents who rarely get to go out, this feels like a slap in the face to the very people who have supported them for years. Disappointing is an understatement. This isn't the first time 1781 has missed the mark. Remember when they started charging a cover for everyone--yes, even the kids--whether you were there for the painfully loud entertainment or not? Classic. Their beer took a nosedive after they lost their master brewer, and when word finally got around that it was halfway decent again, we thought maybe things had turned around. Lesson learned. 1781 isn't the local gem it used to be--it's for the tourists and whatever pretentious crowd they're trying to impress this season. We're officially out. read more

We have always loved the atmosphere and beer at this family friendly winery, brewery and farm. Servers have always been friendly, no matter the time of day, event or how busy. Kids play on the playground, see the animals, enjoy wandering the area until 8pm (usually getting dark by then), as adults enjoy the live music and adult beverages. read more

What's not to love about this place? A brewery, winery, cigar house, food truck, and farm, oh my! This place has it all. Hubby and I came here to scope out the scene and ended up staying a lot longer than expected because of all the awesomeness this place has to offer. Upon arrival, you first enter the courtyard where the brewery is on the left and the cigar house is on the right. Walk farther in, you'll find the winery behind the brewery. It was a beautiful Sunday and there were plenty of outdoor seating available. Super family friendly with a band playing and plenty of open space for kids to run around. There was a small playground and a short trail for fun too. At the brewery, we had a few samples of the beer before deciding on the Doppelbock and L'Automne. Since we had no kids with us, we checked out the 21+ only section which had nice outdoor chairs and benches alongside a cascading pond with coi fish, very peaceful. There were ducks, roosters roaming around. We also checked out the winery and eventually came back to beer. A few things to keep in mind: 1. They only offered flight on weekdays so we just sampled a few, they do charge 50 cents per sampling, just FYI. The beer are pretty good and have a variety to choose from, they even have a hard seltzer. 2. The brewery and the winery has 2 separate system so you have to pay separately or keep 2 separate tabs like the lush we are! 3. Must checkout the cigar house! They have array of cigars to choose from... You can find a nice cigar for $5+. We tried the vanilla infused cigar with a stout, sooo good! We didn't get to try the food truck but plan to come back here with the kids soon! read more

Ambiance is fun, happy and casual. Love when they have live music. Only food trucks. (I didn't partake because I ate before going out.) Service was great. I would suggest paying as you order because the lines can get very long. It's annoying when all you want to do is get going. I came on Mother's Day and it was PACKED, not to mention it had it's grand opening the day before. The set up is unusual, since they are co-located with Wilderness Run winery, which means they serve beer and wine on the same grounds (but purchased in different buildings). Given the crowds, I definitely get the feeling this is a popular picnic & alcohol destination. Keep in mind, this place stays close to their 'farm' roots. They even have a horse stable nearby and plenty of farm equipment. You can even see their other animals, including turkey and a rabbit! My biggest complaint is they didn't have nearly enough bathrooms for the crowd. In theory they had 3 stalls, but 2 toilets were out of service. Not good. The brewery isn't anything fancy; I think it's a repurposed barn with a small bar with taps installed inside. There were no seats, so people end up sitting outside. On a nice day this isn't a problem. Not sure what they'll do in inclement weather. What I tried: Saison: Ok; the tasting notes escaped me but not a retry. Regular porter: Favorite of the bunch. Roasted coffee notes. Nitro Porter: Pretty good, but liked the regular version more. Kolsch: Good representation of this style, nice citrus flavors. Not tried was the IPA or the limited edition Chardonnay barrel-aged sour. I was looking forward to their sour but it literally ran out while I was waiting in line! read more

First time here after Thanksgiving and it was pretty good. They had a nice area for families to sit, several in fact with several fire pits as well. Was surprised that if we wanted fires to be lit, we would have to purchase the firewood which was a big turn off. The beers, especially the Stouts were quite good, however the prices are too expensive for a 12 oz pour. I'll pay $9 for a 16oz draft but for a 12 oz pour, not much of a fan. For two drinks each for both me and my wife plus 3 sodas for the kids was $44. I'd love to come back and review again, but I think prices need to come down otherwise customers may limit themselves to 1-2 beers only. read more

Who doesn't enjoy a relaxing day at the farm? We pop in often to this family farm/Brewery/Winery what an awesome combination. Love the atmosphere as well as the ever changing beer selection at 1781. The Pagan family make you feel like you're hanging out with old friends. Great events throughout the summer and awesome local musicians as well. Extremely family & dog friendly. Great gathering place. But also has a secluded area for over 21 only. And if you have a wine drinker in your group... they have a great selection of wine on the backside of the barn at Wilderness Run Winery! read more

Been coming out this way for the wine and events for a while; but i now come out much more often for the beer. Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Pretty sure they use Virginia based ingredients, if not even more local than that. Current batch of stouts and IPA's are delicious. Cannot recommend highly enough. Not only is it a brewery but winery as well. The beer is great and the wine is pretty decent. Very nice location that is kid friendly with play area and they sell treats for the little tykes or kids at heart to feed the donkeys on site. Good food truck rotation schedule with events. This review is for their wine and atmosphere. For the most part, the red wines were not very good. One was worth buying and there was a two guy band on Sunday, October 6th. They were actually decent and I enjoyed them and the environment. Just wish the wine was better. Maybe the white wines or beer is better and if so, I might raise the rating. Everyone likes something different so this may not be your location but for me and my peeps its a great place. Everyone working there is very friendly and attentive. They continue to grow the location and have really thought about the needs of their customers. Lots of fire pits for night time warmth, music, so many seating options for a group or individuals. There's even a cigar "lounge" area with cigars available for purchase. The place is large so there is plenty of room to spread out. Lots of seating or bring your own. We're huge fans of local beer... but this place left us lacking. Their brown ale was on point, and the service was fine, but the majority of their beers tasted like flavored water. I guess if you're not a fan of craft beer, and prefer your standard Bud/Coors, this will be enjoyable. But for hardcore beer fans: go elsewhere. I'm writing this to give the staff kudos! We stopped by yesterday for beers and some outside time. When I started to walk up to the building I stopped to put on my mask. A guy from another group literally pushed his way past and ordered. The staff member walked out from the counter, came up to me (he had a mask) and asked for my order. Which in and of itself was sweet. But then another member of the same group of guests came in and were very rude to me and the staff. Both staff members handled things well.
