I hate having to give 2 stars, but I just did not have a great experience. I was in town for work and stopped here for dinner. I was seated at a high top in the bar area. It took probably 10 minutes for anyone to greet me. There were servers walking past me and I was so confused why no one said hi, or we will be right with you. Nothing. There was a couple of women at a table near me that must have been employees, because the servers kept going over there at chatting. I ordered the salmon with au gratin potato's and Brussel sprouts. The salmon was cooked nicely, but everything was so extremely salty that it made it difficult to enjoy. I tried scraping off as much of sauce on the salmon so I could finish it. We had a great experience here. Apparently it's also called the Timberlodge Grill so if your GPS brings you to either spot, you are in the right place. I chose the tenderloin medallions stuffed with onions and mushrooms and wrapped in bacon. For sides, I had the Caesar salad, green beans, and mashed potatoes. I wish I would have had one more medallion for the cost of the meal but it was quite tasty. Husband had panko shrimp which was also quite good. Entrees come with a hot-out-of-the-oven popover. Yummm. Service. The bar was extremely understaffed for Martini Monday. We were told to leave the bar because the bartender was only making drinks for people outside. Should have been at least 2 bartenders. One dedicated to outside patrons and other dedicated to guest in the bar and restaurant areas! read more

We ate here while staying at the hotel for a family getaway. The food was incredible. Everything was cooked perfectly and our server was awesome. We had the prime rib, salmon and the kids had Mac n cheese, pizza and chicken strips. They have a nice beer and wine selection along with a full bar for cocktails. The Fillet was excellent, perfectly cooked, as were the 2 sides. The Au Gratin potatoes were some of the best I've ever had. Service was friendly and fast.... And they have Popovers as their bread!!! So so good, warm and tender!!! I even tried the Escargot as an appetizer. (Reminded me of Garlic Portobello mushrooms) I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Grand Rapids. read more

My husband and I enjoyed a delicious and relaxing meal here last night. Beginning with a steaming basket of popovers! We enjoyed the quiet, pleasant ambiance. Mary, our server, was a delight. Friendly and accommodating., she allowed us to dine at our own pace and helped to make it a perfect meal after a tiring day. Although most tables were full when we arrived, there was nothing to jangle the nerves. We had a quiet conversation over dinner and could hear each other, no problem. A perfect place to come for couples, business associates, or for catching up with friends. I've enjoyed similar experiences here infrequently over the past 15 years or so when visiting family and am pleased to know that their standards for a winning menu, great service, and an oh-so-pleasant setting remain the same. We've just relocated permanently to the area and know this will be a favorite. read more

The food was good and the service was phenomenal! The restaurant is attached to the north side of the Timberlake Lodge. My wife and I were staying at the hotel so, of course, we tried out the restaurant for a late dinner. We sat at the bar. The food was good. It came out quickly and it was prepared perfectly. We were very impressed by the service. In particular, the young bartender was great. He had phenomenal product knowledge and amazing sales skills. We watched, in amazement, as he was up-selling everyone at the bar to top-shelf specialty drinks and interesting beer flavors. This restaurant is attached to a hotel, small but nice. I had the surf and turf which were both cooked perfectly and my Husband has the prime rib special which was great as well. Best part is the serve homemade popovers which were delicious!! Service great, would go back if in the area! read more

Excellent service. Decent wine selection. They updated their menu and I think hired a new chef. Last visit I was not as excited about the food but everything I had there last night was excellent. walleye cakes Are a must have one visiting Northern Minnesota. Also had two of the salads both of which were good. I had the lobster pasta and you could actually see clause of lobster in the ditch. It was the right amount of spacey. Not sure what is going on, but our last 3-4 visits have been terrible. Used to be the best place in town, but has quickly dropped to near the bottom of our list. Food has been very mediocre and service has been poor, snippy, and slow. Hope they can get this straightened out, but we won't be back for a while. read more

Absolutely fantastic! Son had a prime rib dinner that was cooked to perfection. I had the walleye, delicious! And the salads and sides were also excellent-brocollini and au gratins tasted fresh and seasoned just right. The staff is friendly and efficient. My take-out wasn't quite ready upon arrival, but it's all good. I added an order of soup (chicken and rice)and salad for momma. I ordered the chicken and shrimp Oscar. I'd requested the hollandaise sauce on the side (my dirty secret, I don't like hollandaise, blech). The chicken was great, shrimps were delectable. They were served atop aspargus which was cooked perfect, not overdone. And, the foundation was wild rice, I mean, it's Minnesota, of course. Yummy. Good value, and felt healthy. Upscale Grand Rapids. Comfortable, spacious dining area. Professional, friendly staff. Good, but small, selection of craft beers. House wines were well above average. Someone is doing their home work. Great entrees and sides. Recommend the steaks any burger. BBQ ribs were really good, but could use a shot of smoke. Nighty specials. Family of 4 could run up quite a bill. Closed Sundays. I noted another critic considered themselves a foodie and didn't like the steak. First, I consider a foodie to be someone trained in some or many aspects of cooking or the restaurant business. Second a foodie would not have accepted a bad steak or overcooked steak. The wait staff at 17th asked twice "Is everything satisfactory." They don't do this just to interrupt your meal. It's your right/duty to tell them that there's something you don't like. They NEED the feedback. Lastly, I cook/bake/grill almost daily and love it. I also enjoy eating out locally or when traveling. I would never consider myself a foodie or pretend that I have the credentials to give 5 stars. read more

I've eaten at this restaurant twice now. Once with my young family and once with my significant other. Both times the service was excellent but the good was mediocre. To be fair, I am a foodie so I've had great food. I had the steak which was overcooked and leathery with a side of pickled onions and carrots which was super strange. Then I tried the sushi which was no good. There was very little actual fish in it and it was very small for the price. I will not be eating here ever again. It was strange not to be offered refill on water, nor have the dishes cleared or even brought us a bill until we all stood up to leave. A pretty big let down. I expected the prices to be high and that was confirmed, but at those prices I was willing to give them a break if the food and service matched the price. If you're going to pay major metro prices, I think you should get major metro quality. That didn't happen. The food was described in grand terms in the menu, but only ordinary at best. I had a shrimp Alfredo dish, that was so overdone with seasonings that it is was a bit unpleasant. Good and expensive food doesn't overwhelm you like this. Throwing more flavors at you isn't what well prepared food is about. Probably will not go there again unless 'forced'. read more

This was our favorite go to restaurant for many years. But no more. The last couple of experiences were less than stellar and a big disappointment. Our most recent visit was 5/9/15 to take some moms out to dinner. We were 6 adults and one child. The children's menu offers what we consider "plastic food". Chicken nuggets, hot dogs, etc., stuff we don't normally buy, let alone order in a restaurant. Why not have buttered noodles, a couple of ravioli, a small piece of walleye? Two in our group enjoyed their walleye dinner and scallops dinner. The rest of the adults had the prime rib special. It was not special. The orders ranged from rare to well-done but we honestly could not see much difference in any of them. Prime rib should have a nice crust around the edges and these had none. Also, the roasted potatoes were so salty, no one could eat them. I took a small piece of potato with each bite of prime rib to get some seasoning for the meat. The restaurant has expanded and maybe they don't have the staff in the kitchen to meet their needs but something needs to change. We are a family of foodies and do not mind paying for quality but to pay $230 for what we got is just not worth it. So sad to see such a great place degrade to what it is now. read more
