Jane is a sweetheart and so good at what she does! She decided what looked best for my face shape and how my hair naturally flows. Convo and vibes were natural and immaculate. I came back a couple of days later for another blow out and brought my bestie. I'm from Cali (the bay helloooo) and thinking about booking another trip to NY just for a cut by Jane.

I had long hair below my shoulders I needed cut because it was getting too heavy and severely damaged from the bleach to make my hair blonde. So I decided with 18 Pell Hair to get my hair cut. I thought they had a closet in this salon but they don't so you need to carry your purse with you everywhere. I love the shampoo and conditioner they used to wash my hair. The shampoo smelled like expensive fruity apples. It was a subtle smell and not overly strong. They shampooed my hair twice and applied conditioner and rinsed out my hair 3 times. It was very clean and thorough. Afterwards, one of the ladies cut my hair. She was pretty fast and cut my hair at where the shoulders are with little layering. It came out very nice after the hair spray. The hair dresser was very nice too and fixed some parts of my hair that stood out. The end result cost me $45.

I've lived in NYC for a few years now and this is the first place where I've been satisfied with my haircut. I've gone to places that are much pricier with way worse results. William was amazing! I'm super picky about the way my hair is cut - I have thick, long, coarse, straight hair so how it gets cut is exactly how it's going to look , there's no hiding it if it's bad . I asked for ~5 inches off with long layers & some thinning (attached photo). $45 total including the wash, and the whole process was less than an hour! Will definitely be coming back. Thanks William!

Great haircut for an affordable price. James walked me through the entire process and told me what he was doing and how that improved my hairstyle. Highly recommend.

Surprisingly GREAT?!!! Had a male perm and haircut for $100!! I was a little skeptical because of how cheap it is... so I went with caution. It was completely packed, a little unorganized with how they do their customers. But they get the job done. I have a very gentle woman hairdresser who speaks English which is really helpful. Most of them just speak Chinese. But she was so good, listened to what my needs are, and alas! It was a job well done. The old lady assisting her is good too. Gave them both tips. There's an ATM machine (with fee) nearby so you can pay them cash. I think they also accept cards but with fee.

Ladies! I came to Pell 18 on my trip to NYC. When I tell you this was the best layers I got in a while. Made me even want to ditch my own hair stylist at home. Ask for William!!! He pays attention to so much detail and is so efficient I think I got a cut, wash, and blowout in about 45 minutes. All the ladies waiting in line loveeeed my hair. I got lucky enough to where William was available as soon as I walked in but you can also make appointments with him. I paid $55 ($45 for cut&blowout + $10 tip)

Cheap haircut but I asked for layers in a bob and got the ultimate auntie fringe bowl cut. Tough look. Wouldn't go again. Ask them for very simple layers!

What I asked for (in red) what he gave me. He's never given me this cut!

My first review was in 2017. I had high praise for Nelson, my go-to stylist. Fast forward to today, 11/4. I went in when it was calm and not too busy. I asked Nelson for the same bob that he has given me several times in the past. Shorter in the back and slants long to the front. Usually, he will give one side shorter than the other and I have always loved this cut. Today for some reason, he did not understand what I was explaining. I also felt he seemed frazzled by everyone coming in or having to answer the phone. He's always been friendly and patient and today he was rushed. He recommended I keep the back to the base of my neck and not shorter. Then, my left side he cut it straight across which is shorter than the back and from the front view, looks choppy. When I told him that it looked choppy, if he could fix it. He was dismissive and said "it's too late, I already showed you the back. I can't go shorter" it's my hair and I want a stylized bob, why can't it go shorter?! I'm very disappointed with this cut and his attitude. He's lost me as a repeat customer.

Amy is very nice and knowledgeable about how to take care of hair. Great for long layers!

I paid $480 for my appointment and left with hair that looked patchy and not like what we had discussed. While disappointing results can sometimes happen, what bothered me most was the complete lack of communication afterward. I reached out to Masaki on May 13 regarding my concerns and attempted to resolve the issue privately. I never received a response. It has now been about a month, and despite giving plenty of time for a reply, I have been ignored. I did not immediately leave reviews or make public comments because I wanted to give him the opportunity to address the situation directly. Unfortunately, that opportunity was never taken. For $480, I expected a higher standard of work and customer service. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Masaki.

This was their "best advice for me" and that I should come back and get both together. I only needed a haircut and this was the only chance I got (I am a SAHM with 2 kids and minimal backup except this day) so I said I would consider it but I need a cut now. It was 6 months since my last. That must have just not been the right thing to say bc I was judged, insulted during the entire session and I got the worst haircut of my life. I can't even get it fixed because it is so much shorter than I wanted. There are huge "texture" discrepancies all over my hair, the most obvious being in the back near my neck. There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. I could have done it myself.

I went back recently to bleach my hair and I was so shocked by how good it came out - and in only 4-5 hours! He's definitely a professional and knows what he's doing especially when it comes to dying/bleach/toning and cutting short Asian hair to fit my face shape. I asked for ash brown (which I usually get) but I got a way lighter color than expected and the bleach (he went over the bleach twice) really damaged my hair. On top of that, they charged me for a haircut I never asked for. During the balayage, the stylist cut/thinned (no idea what he did because he never asked me) some of my hair (maybe 10 "snips"?) and they later charged me an additional $70 for the "haircut." This really pissed me off because in the middle of my appointment, I even heard an assistant ask in Mandarin "is she getting a haircut?" and the stylist shook his head. I was really unhappy with my hair that I went to get a hair treatment (for the dry, damaged hair) and toner at a different salon a week later. That stylist even asked "who did your hair?"

What sets Charles apart is how much he genuinely cares about the health of your hair. It's so hard to find a stylist who prioritizes maintaining healthy hair over trying to sell you additional services.
