After not having a haircut for 7 months (life got way too busy with a new baby), it was finally time for a long overdue haircut! I stopped by QB House on a holiday around lunch- there were 4 stylists there, all busy- I waited about 10 min or so (really not bad). Interior is very typical of the usual QB House, where each stylist has their own station and has a closet for you to put away your coat/bag. Know that QB House's service doesn't include hair wash/dry- they'll sit you down, ask what you're looking for and spritz your hair with water but that's it. I feel that it's really efficient. Akiko-san cut my hair with precision and speed. I felt like she really listened to what I was looking for and expertly clipped away at my crazy mane of hair. Note that there's a credit card fee now- if paying by cash, its $35 but with card its $36. Great experience! Thank you QB House! read more

I strolled over to discover QB House Tokyo, a Japanese barber shop chain which offers no-frills, unisex express haircuts at an affordable flat rate. Put my name on the clip board list, joined the wait and was seated within the hour. I showed Joy, my stylist, several bobbed haircut photos. We talked about specifics, then away she went. Snip, snip, snip. She also gave helpful tips on how to manage my style post-cut. I love my new bob. Thank you, Joy! Others do too apparently, as I've received many compliments. I have been going to QB House for years and the price has been going up while the quality has sharply declined. While there are still some very talented stylists, there are some terrible ones. Today I stopped in for a quick haircut, which I keep very simple for a man. I took a quick look when it was done and nothing looked off. When I went home to wash my hair, I noticed that the back of my head was cut in all different sizes. I had chunks of hair that were long and some that were short. I am quite disappointed, as I work in a professional setting and cannot get another haircut/adjustment until next weekend. For someone that does this for a living, it's unfathomable that they cannot keep the same size constant on the back of my head. Safe to say I will not be going back again. read more

I am sorry to say but I had a first great experience here and the subsequent 5 times I've gone have been absolute disasters. My very clear instructions and photos of what I want are immediately disregarded and the first move made with the clippers completely ruins the haircut from first stroke. I have yet to look even decent leaving this place since that first haircut, I always ending up looking either looking like a 20th century fascist or like a blind mouse with severe motor disabilities did the haircut. She seemed confused by my hair type which is just a denser straight hair -- she struggled to get hair clips where she needed them and kept running the clipper into them. She ended up revisiting the back three separate times, each time cutting a little more away and she ignored my ask for a taper and gave me a squared edge that won't grow out nicely In the end I got something like a mushroom for a haircut because she left the sides long, sticking out, and "fixed it" by smearing a gross amount of wax along the sides that left my hair completely rigid and straight. Now that I've washed it I can also see there is no blending as it goes up and there's even a little bald patch on my left side above the ear. She said it'd look great once it grew out a little bit, like yeah I imagine a month of growth would cover up the mistakes I wish I had gotten the man to the right instead, I could hear him talk through everything with his clients and seemed much more fluent with his motions. I don't know what their policy is on returning for a fix up but if there's no update to this post then they don't accept it. read more

Excellent place for a haircut! I've come twice now on Fridays and have been helped by both Shige and Amy. I can't speak for the other stylists on other days, but these two were very professional and attentive to my hair needs, and quite fast too. It's affordable in terms of Manhattan rates, and the walk-in wait is typically not longer than 15-20 minutes. They tend to get a flux of people around 4-5pm, so maybe try to beat the evening rush if you want to be helped right away. All in all, I'm very pleased, and I think I found my new spot :-) read more

I don't think this is an entirely bad thing because if you just really needed a trim, it's a great place to do so. Came here on a Friday for a haircut. Drew Mei who hurried me to her chair. Had reservations but read the reviews here and thought all of their barbers would be of decent or similar quality. I was wrong. I've never had a worse hair cut. I showed her my previous pictures (6 of them and a video) from a haircut in July and told her exactly what I wanted. She cut it way too short and now I look like I was electrocuted with my hair sticking up all over the place. Wow, what a find! I was passing by and saw a sign for a $30 haircut and was intrigued since I was in need of a haircut. I didn't know anything about QB House Tokyo but it looked clean, all the chairs were occupied and there were a few people waiting so I figured I'd check Yelp for reassurance and then I went in. I'm so glad I did! Most of the other customers were men but there was another woman getting her bob cut. I waited about 10 minutes and then sat in Christine's chair. We chatted for a couple of minutes about what I was looking for and then she got to work. She trimmed 1.5 inches so now it's about shoulder length. As others have noted, QB House only does express cuts so they don't wash your hair. Christine sprayed mine as she went and then dried it so I didn't leave with wet hair but she didn't blow dry it straight, just dry. That was fine with me. I left so happy with my cut. I came here on President's Day morning at about 10am. There was no wait and I was seated right away. The hair cutter man was kind and polite. We briefly talked about what I wanted which was just a trim. He added some suggestions like light layers and thinning with shears. I said yes, that sounds good. I should have gotten his name, because he did a great job. He reshaped and cleaned up my outgrown hairstyle, without taking off too much length. I was in and out in about 25 minutes including paying, and taking off and on all of my heavy winter clothes. Ladies, don't hesitate to come here. Got my first haircut in 1.5 years here today! After reading some reviews, I arrived with my hair freshly showered. Three people were getting their haircut simultaneously, but since one was nearly done, I waited a scant five minutes before settling into the chair myself. The salon also has an inconspicuous vacuum tube close to the floor that captures all the swept hair when it's turned on, something I had never seen before! There are some things that I am low maintenance about, and hair is one of them. This place is perfect. No frills.
