Over the Horizon is a new brewery in town, located in the "brewery district" just off Upper King Street. When I looked at the brewery's website, I could not find a beer list, only a food menu. Google yielded results from the brewery that used to be in this building (Brewlab). So, I went into Over the Horizon blind as to what beverages they served. Thankfully, they have a variety, including margaritas and espresso martinis on tap, and they have wine. I was glad to find a sour on the menu, the Washout Sour. It was VERY sour, and a generous half pour was $6 (reasonable). The atmosphere is darker than this brewery's predecessor, with a sleek look. You won't find stickers covering the brewing area or counter. A lot of tables are here for standing or sitting around, along with an outdoor picnic area. This is a great location and seems like a promising idea. I hope Over the Horizon can get the kinks worked out with an online beer menu soon.

This incredible brewery opened in August of 2024 and has a cozy, open warehouse style indoor area with a bar and food. They are community minded and have even named two of their current brews after coaches at The Citadel. Pizza is their food specialty, think old timer Pizza Hut personal pan pizza. Thick buttery crust and lots of cheese! I had the Hot Oil pizza, which was amazing! The pizza offerings are gourmet in style. Talked to one of the owners who is the master brewer and got the whole story of their beginning! GREAT staff and great support of the local community AND our military!! If you believe in supporting local business, love the brewery experience, and love our brave men and women of the military, THIS IS A MUST GO!!

I was surprised to find that it had changed to Over the Horizon, as I seem to be out of the loop with updates sometimes, but having been familiar with the location, I like the space. It gives definite sports bar vibes, but I adore that they have parking on site! The staff was super friendly and helpful, including offering taste tests and suggestions on drink options. One fun concept is that they have a plain seltzer that they can flavor with different syrup flavors/combinations. I liked this idea and appreciated the option to customize a drink. They also offer flights so you can sample things. They don't have a huge menu, but they do have a full bar, I believe. I ordered the pretzel and it wasn't the best, but also not the worst. It was confusing because it came with mustard and cheese, but also seemed to be brushed in a sweet cinnamon glaze, which I do not feel are probably the best combination - it was just a little mix up of flavors. Overall, I'd possible go back to sample some things, but it won't be the top of my list to visit. Staff was great though!

Great new-ish brewery! We had the Pepperoni pizza (really good) and a few beers. Will come back for more!

Chill place, good atmosphere. Limited wine and liquor, but hey it is a brewery, so makes sense.

Service was slow. Avoid the deep dish pizza - it's not Chicago level. Experience could have been better

Cool little hangout. Great seltzer options. Beer was good also. Bartender was very helpful with suggestions and samples before ordering.

Best customer service in Charleston. Citadel alumni own this place... pretty self explanatory. Best bar here. Go Dawgs.

One thing I really appreciate is their QR code ordering system. You can order at your own pace, whether you're looking for a quick meal between shopping stops or want to settle in and enjoy a more relaxed dining experience. It's a simple system that makes the whole experience feel effortless. Our group's go-to order is the trio appetizer to share, followed by one or two tacos each. Everything is flavorful and just the right portion size, making it easy to mix and match different tacos each visit. Bartaco is almost always busy, so expect a 10-30 minute wait during peak times. Thankfully, with so many shops nearby, the wait goes by quickly and is well worth it. Between the convenient location, good food, and laid-back atmosphere, it's a spot we find ourselves coming back to again and again.

I used to make it a point to stop here every time I'm in town for work--but after this experience,…read moreI won't be coming back. Last night I placed a large order: burrito de birria, two tamales, pozole, large bag of chips , guacamole, drinks . After driving 30 minutes back to my hotel, I opened the bag to find the tamales were completely missing. Then I tried the pozole, and it was so salty it was absolutely inedible. On top of that, they didn't include a single condiment--just a bland, overly salty soup. I tried calling for 30 minutes straight--no answer. Left a voicemail--no call back. Not that night, not the next morning. Completely ignored. The next day, I went in person to give them a chance to make it right. I had my order number and explained everything clearly. Instead of even attempting to help, they refused to do anything without a physical receipt. No effort to look up the order, no accountability, no customer care. Just excuses. Expecting someone to drive 30 minutes back with uneaten food just to prove a mistake is ridiculous. I ended up having to go to Wendy's just to eat dinner after spending money here--that alone says everything. Mistakes happen, but the way a business handles them is what matters. This place clearly doesn't care once they have your money. This wasn't my first issue here, but it will definitely be my last.

It definitely has a more upscale feel than most Mexican restaurants I've been to. It's a bit pricey, but honestly, the complimentary salsa bar with perfectly crispy tortilla chips is worth it. I had the chicken fajitas as my main entrée, and that chicken... easily some of the best I've ever had. It was incredibly moist, loaded with flavor, and perfectly cooked. I also got to try the quail from the JJ, and that was definitely the star of the show. So flavorful. I could eat about 10 or more of the quails. Great atmosphere, delicious food, and plenty of reasons to return. Highly recommend!
