We really enjoyed our visit to Commonhouse Aleworks--it's the kind of spot that instantly makes you feel at home. The outdoor area is huge and inviting, with plenty of space to spread out and relax. We especially loved sinking into the comfortable rocking chairs, the perfect place to kick back with a drink in hand. The overhangs and fans kept everything cool and breezy, which made hanging outside even more enjoyable on a warm day. One of our favorite features was the outdoor ordering window. It's so convenient, especially if you're visiting with your pup--you never have to leave them behind just to grab another round. The whole place has a fun, welcoming vibe with great music setting the tone. While we didn't sample the food this time, it was definitely tempting, and it's nice to know it's available if you want to make an afternoon of it. Drink-wise, Commonhouse nails it. While beer is their specialty (and they have a solid selection), they also offer a frozen drink and a few seltzers for those who prefer something a little different. And for the pups? They've thought of that too, with outdoor water stations so your dog can stay refreshed right alongside you. All in all, it's a truly pet-friendly spot with a laid-back atmosphere that makes you want to linger a little longer. Came here for a networking event because of their large gathering areas both inside and out. Even with the rain there were plenty of covered seating areas available outside free of being affected by the weather. The drink menu was quite large with many choices to choose from. If you can't figure out what you want they do offer flights for tasting. They do have a decent food menu as well everything that came out looked absolutely amazing. I love how active Commonhouse is. They always have events or are involved in the community events. They have a huge outdoor space and a small indoor space. I appreciate that they offer a couple of frozen options for drinks too. The food is solid, nothing crazy, but a little better than your average "bar food." The staff is usually pretty friendly. Love the inside which is air conditioned but outside is fun, especially when there is a band like the one on Saturday 6-13. Great fun vibe. Since I discovered how good the food is here, it's become a regular stop. The smashburgers are so damn good that I get a craving from that won't go away until I stop in to eat. I've now worked my way through some of the other menu items like the brisket grilled cheese, the cheesesteak special, and the hummus platter. You can't go wrong with anything here, but the CAB Smashburger is my go to. I love sitting on the patio on a nice day with some live music and some good eats. Inside feels a little boring, but I would only sit in there if the weather was particularly crazy anyway. There is a good selection of non-alcoholic drinks. The food is not my favorite, not to much of a variety to chose from. Nice staff. Weird food and expensive. I grew up in Charleston and visit my mom pretty much quarterly. Lately I've resorted to flying vs driving because I hate I95 and the drive is boring. Anyway on this trip I had a little time to spare so I stopped at Commonhouse to get a glass of wine and a small bite to eat. For my food I got pimento cheese thinking it would be a small bowl of the spread with bread, ham and pickles. After waiting a long time the server brought me these small bites with pimento cheese and ham that had been heated. It wasn't that great and for the price it was ridiculous. Looked like something a 5 year old would make. Anyway, not sure I'd eat here again. Next time I'll get chick-fil-a and then just have a glass of wine. read more

We just added a new pup to our family last week and decided to try out Commonhouse with her as our first venture out! What I hadn't noticed before was the little window to order from if you couldn't leave the dog with someone which is awesome, along with a wide selection of clean dog bowls for water! The mimosa hit the spot, and the red fox ale was a winning selection. Kids gave the cheeseburgers five out of five stars and the beer cheese on the tots just made the trip totally worth it. I recently went to common house ale works for the first time and I love the space. I like that it has an indoor but a huge outdoor area. They also just celebrated six years. They are located in the park Circle area which is a very up-and-coming hip area to go sip bite and taste everything. This venue is great and really combines a sense of community with great food, drinks and atmosphere. There is a stage where many locals come out and perform so you can catch comedy, music, dance and fun pretty much every day of the week. I haven't found cheese sticks this good in Charleston since Josie Joe's left Shem Creek. And their deep-fried giant pretzel is to die for... Just found out they make a dessert pretzel as well, so that will be for next time. Do yourself a favor and order one for the table, it's definitely share-worthy! We went for the brewery tour. It was a great tour and the owner is very passionate about helping the community and his team. I got to try the wise beer and had the smash burger (swig and swine). The smash burger was really good I recommend a try. The wise beer was really flavorful. This was my first visit to this brewery even though I've been to park circle many times (primarily for lunch). I found the bar tender friendly and more than willing to offer a sample of a particular beer if a customer is unsure which beer to choose. I decided to try the paddle fruit (IPA with Prickly Pear) it had a mild fruit taste but was not overly sweet. The beers are available in different sizes ranging from 4 ounce to 16 ounce. They also offer food ranging from wings and burgers to pretzels and tater tots. I decided against food but noticed many in my group did not finish their pretzels and other menu items... I may try food on the next visit. The exterior had plenty of picnic tables and rocking chairs, it's probably really nice during the fall or cooler months ect. It's worth stopping in if visiting park circle. Plenty of other eateries within walking distance. read more

We were in Charleston with friends for a wedding and walked over to Commonhouse due to the close proximity from our Airbnb. After snagging a few beers and brussels sprouts for the table, we basked in the twinkle lights and live music, all agreeing that it seemed like a fun neighborhood to live in. There were a few local businesses scattered nearby, including an ice cream shop and eatery with Louisiana cuisine. There was a cool neighborhood vibe and was super family-friendly. Parents were socializing, kids were dancing to the live music, and all-in-all, it felt incredibly welcoming. The beers we got were delicious and their food menu was super enticing too. Common House Ale Works is generous enough to open their venue for one night a month to entertain the neighborhood with a Comedy Night consisting of several local groups of Improv artist. I wish I could remember the names of the groups. These artists get together to perform some funny stuff. Theater 99 is just one of the many groups. Nice large area with inside and outside seating. Finally stopped in to Commonhouse. Been on my list for some time. First impressions was great as there was PARKING! To me that is a huge plus. I hate driving around forever trying to find a parking spot! There is plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. We got here fairly early so we didn't get a chance to hear the band. Bluegrass, I believe. The beers we decent. I tried a couple different IPA's. I'd say nothing spectacular, however not too bad. I typically like the Park Circle Pale. That's always a safe go to! The menu was right up my alley when going to a brewery. Good ol tots and pretzels. How can one go wrong! We had the totchos, Brussel Sprouts, and the ginormous pretzel. Of all the Brussels were by far the winner! The pretzel was okay, beer cheese was also jut okay. The totchos were not bad either but thats it. Overall, cool little spot if you're in the area.
