1816 modern kitchen is fabulous if you're ever in the Corridon area. It is in an original building to the downtown area that has been remodeled, but kept most of its historic charm. The staff there is friendly welcoming, and stay on top of your order the entire time you're there. The food is delicious. I strongly encourage you to try the lettuce wraps. Well, I haven't been here in a year, that's far too long. I went with a group of friends and the short version from me is that place has changed and not for the better. Without going into great detail, none of us were impressed with the any of the meals. I could list the different meals and the thoughts on each dinner or app but the consensus was a lack of seasoning or overall taste. The food used to be a home run but, on this night, it was just very average. That was my opinion and unfortunately the feeling from the entire group of 10. The service was excellent; the beer was the best part of the night. It's beyond me on what's changed, recipes, owner, chef, standards? I don't know but I hope they find their way back. Still great five star service and food. Have to mention our waitress Payton was fabulous. My wife has some strict dietary restrictions and Payton wrote her questions down and then went to the kitchen to get the answers. Afterwords my wife ask for some alternatives and the kitchen made the meal in a way she was able to not only eat but enjoyed as well. A surprisingly modern and enjoyable gastropub in the heart of Corydon! Named for the year when James Monroe defeated Rufus King in that year's Presidential contest. Just kidding. Obviously, its a reminder of the year that Indiana was admitted as a state and the capitol was down the street. The food isn't old-fashioned, though! The menu is more adventurous than most of the pubs on this side of the river and the food delivers! I was very impressed by the options on entrees, but there are also more typical fare that I'm sure are executed well. Drinks were on point as well! The space is fairly small and they do offer a few outdoor tables when weather permits. Service was friendly, attentive, helpful and everything you want it to be. Great spot! We were very pleasantly surprised with our lunch experience. Someone had told us to check out Corydon because it has a cute downtown area. Unfortunately, I wasn't very impressed with the local shops, however, I will gladly go back to Corydon to eat here again! I looked at the menu online and it sounded good. When we arrived, it's much smaller than I anticipated. We were the second party in there for lunch and it filled up pretty quickly so I would say you should probably make a reservation if you're going for dinner. Online there was a lunch and dinner menu but there was just one menu given to us that had soups, salads, shareables, and entrees. There was also a drink menu. I went for the smash burger and it was so delicious, made to perfection. I'm a picky eater so I only got cheese on mine. It came with fries, which had a great flavor to them but could have been crisper. I overheard another server ask if his customer wanted truffle fries. I wasn't given that option and was unaware I could have but I'm sure they would have been good. My husband got chicken that came with beets, brussel sprouts, and sweet potatoes. I tried sweet potato and it was quite yummy as well! We didn't order any drinks other than coke and water but it looked like there was a variety of beer, cocktails, and wine! read more

We had a very nice Valentine's Day dinner. For starters we had the egg rolls. My husband had the bison and duck meatloaf. I had general Tsao Chicken stir fry . We finished with the cranberry orange bread pudding. Everything was delicious. The service was excellent and we left with a smile and a full stomach. Been there three times now. The egg rolls are awesome, definitely recommend those. The smash burger is good, the fish n chips is awesome, and only had the Old Fashioned-which was good as well. Always quick to host and get you seated, they've checked pretty often to make sure whether I'm good or need something. The old time fans are super cool, outside seating was limited when I visited-but heard they're getting a bigger place here soon if they haven't already. Without a doubt it's a recommendation, but be ready for a a little extra cost due to a lot of extra quality. We went to 1816 for our 44th wedding anniversary. We had a pork and a meatloaf dinner. We also tried their Fried Broccoli with goat cheese. My main complaint is they still have a menu on their website that is way outdated and doesn't say it's lunch only and so I went there expecting to be able to get a hot brown for $14. Then I got there I had to settle for a hamburger and fries for $18. It really is false advertising if you don't keep your website up, especially if somebody comes from a half hour away or further to come for a specific thing on your menu. I was there on a date so I went ahead and ate, but I would've left if I was alone Now all aside I did have was good. The burger was tasty and there was a really good tomato aïoli they put on it. The fries were OK but way too much like four orders of fries on one plate. I ate them all and took my burger to go home, but I think a couple dollars less than half. The fries would be much better. I was also unhappy that when my dad asked for extra aïoli, they charge two dollars for a tiny little sauce cup. The burger already came with aïoli and didn't have any actually on it so just paying two dollars to get an extra cup seems a bit stupid. My did enjoy her drink. I believe it was called a lemon drop. She said it was made perfectly so I'm still giving them three stars even though I'm not very happy with the prices or the outdated menu. The burger was about the most affordable thing on the menu at $18 so there's no if you've got the money. There's no problem with the quality but just beware that you can't trust anything on their website. It's way outdated. The service was prompt and fast and friendly the meat and the burger taste a decent quality it's located in a historical part of Coryden. Street parking was pretty easy even though it was a Saturday night. There were lots of interesting things on the menu for a foodie with a budget. read more

Corydon, IN is such a gem! We decided to stop in to 1816 for a Saturday lunch and it was such an amazing surprise! I literally can't wait to come back to try more on their menu. Not only is the building historic and full of character, the decor and vibe are something you would find in an artsy city eatery. Brad was our waiter, and was full of personality and down to earth We started with an old fashioned and wildfire cocktails. Hubs said it was probably the best old fashioned he's ever had. The fun dip rim and red wine float were the highlights of the wildfire. Appetizer was corn fritters- delish without the sweet Thai chili sauce, but out of this world dipped in it. Our entrees were duck nachos and roasted veggie salad with chicken. First of all, I never thought I would be that person that ordered roasted veggies - but the beet and goat cheese combo has my heart! You add the garlicky, spicy chimmichurri magic, and I will literally dream about this salad. Duck nachos on wonton crisps. Need I say more? Yummm. Just yum. The slaw and sauce were to die for. Hubby and I dropped by for a casual anniversary dinner on Thursday evening. Good tip: make a reservation! We got there early enough to get a table. It filled up fast! Our server was Cheyenne. She was great! She was really helpful and super nice. Eric wanted the salmon, but they were out, so he ordered the Korean BBQ Shrimp. I ordered General Tso's chicken. For appetizers, we ordered the Crab Gumbo and Fried Broccoli. WOW! So good! Especially the fried broccoli. We had never tried whipped goat cheese before, and it was delicious. Took my adult son here for his birthday last night. Made a reservation and indicated the occasion. Not sure why that mattered. They do nothing for birthdays. No free dessert. And if you bring your own in like we did, you can't eat it there! They did offer us a candle. This place has like 10 tables and 3 servers. Even so, we did not get much attention from ours. She was not overly friendly and not accommodating on any of our requests. One of our guests asked for substitutions or alterations to multiple dishes and none were honored. She ended up with the chicken and dumplings. She said there wasn't a dumpling in it! I ordered truffle fries and fried green tomatoes for apps. Tomatoes were very salty. Fries were good. My son ordered the smash burger. He said it was good. After we ordered though I realized that the burger also came with fries and since we had some for an appetizer, I flagged our waitress down, which is sad I had to even do that, but asked her if he could substitute the fries for another side. She hesitated, of course and said well I guess you could there's a couple of options but they're all an up charge so we said forget it. His fries came out and they were very hard and overdone. I ordered the tempura vegetables but once I realized my mistake since I had ordered the fried green tomatoes as well I wanted to make a change to a salad but again seemed annoyed and said I think he's already making it so you're too late. My mom's salad was just OK. It had a lot of weird green sprigs in it not your typical salad. Also, the table next to us was told they needed to get up and leave because the next reservation was coming in. They were sitting around too long. I thought that was very rude. The good thing was the hostess was friendly and took our picture for us and offered us a to go bag. The quarters are very cramped in there and it's a little claustrophobic. Must get the appetizer of FGT fried green tomatoes, four large truly green heirloom tomatoes layered on some pimento cheese. field greens and a slightly sweet jam glaze. Reservations are suggested on weekends and accessibility is a problem. If you are a wheelchair user or have trouble with a step or two, expect some barriers. The space is small and tightly packed so navigating with assistive devices may be frustrating. Our table by the door was set for four but could really only comfortably seat two due to the constant in and out traffic that caused patrons to bump the outer chairs. The menu is best described as Southern Asian Fusion. It seems the majority of the menu items included the corn and edamame succotash. I liked that so that's fine by me. The Egg Rolls were mediocre. They managed to be both crispy and soggy at the same time likely due to the presentation. They were swimming in sauce on the plate. A ramekin might have salvaged the situation. The filling tried to get by on the seasoning already in the sausage. The result was bland. The General Tso's Chicken came on a bed of "fried" rice which was basically just rice with the corn and edamame succotash mixed in. While they may have paused over the skillet on the way to the plate, the rice didn't have the fried texture that is expected when ordering fried rice. It was a little mushy. The Chicken was nicely crisp (albeit could have done with more seasoning). The sauce was the star of that particular show. Very nice. Sweet and spicy enough to tingle the tongue but not overpowering. The Bama Salmon was fantastic. It was flavorful and well-seasoned. It came in a bed of corn and edamame succotash, a pile of leaves, and a sauce that was less like a barbecue sauce and more akin to an aioli. Either way, it was delicious. Went here on a whim. We constantly don't know where to eat and love to either try somewhere new or go to a place where we already know what we like. We were very pleased with this sweet little spot in Corydon. For starters we got Truffle Fries with the Sun Dried Tomato Aioli, the Sunbeam drink, and my boyfriend had the Old Fashioned. Our waiter let him try it first which was very nice especially if you're not used to bourbon or bitters in your drink. For our entrees we got the Shrimp Ramen and the Salmon Poke Bowl. Came here for the first time eager to try this food joint out! The first thing I noticed was very well decorated, clean & but small space! Was greeted by a friendly hostess and taken to table! Ordered sweet ice tea and yes it was really good! Upon recommendation of the waitress, we tried out the fried green to tomatoes! Wow now that was absolutely unique and absolutely delicious for an appetizer! I ordered the Smash Burger comes with the fries, the presentation was stunning! The pic is included! It's massive to say the least! The fries were okay, not crispy and but soggy! Tasted good though. The hamburger was a huge with 2 meat patties and all the fixings! It was definitely a smash burger! Could only eat one half brought the other one side home! I felt the hamburger was tasty but felt it may have been a tad greasy. Overall the food was good but should have tried something else! This place is definitely on the expensive side! For two we almost spent $50 for lunch on Saturday. Now that's expensive for food in Corydon! I hope to be back again to try something else! From the Old Capitol Fashioned to every piece of the meal to the awesome service and terrific music, this place was a hit. I actually think I found my new favorite restaurant! It's a little bit of a drive from Louisville, but so worth it for any of you that live there! I despise Brussel sprouts but my wife loves them. If you imagine what a fart tastes like, that's brussel sprouts, in my opinion... but these ones were dressed up enough that I even thought they were good! The Fried Green Tomatoes with pimento cheese were incredible! Most likely the best ones I've ever had. A perfect sweet heat going on. The smoked meatloaf that was stuffed with cheddar was very good as well. It is a neat mixture of pork and venison, which paired nicely. I wish there was a tad more cheese in it, but it was still awesome. The meatloaf had a perfect char to it. The tomato sauce on top did have a little kick to it as an FYI if you're not into that kind of thing. I've been to 1816 several times. This is the first time for lunch. I really wanted to try their Nashville hot chicken. As you can see, it comes between two waffles. The waffles aren't like your typical waffles that you have for breakfast, they are more like cornbread. The flavor of the chicken is very good, it's very tender and moist. The chicken is a little spicy. I personally didn't care much for the waffle corn bread. It comes with cheese, pickles cucumbers and a sauce. The fries were good. Overall, I would still recommend the hot chicken to someone. My girlfriend got the egg roll and a salad. I don't like egg rolls and this was one was no different but don't listen to me. Was so looking forward to writing great things about this place. All prior reviews with 5 stars made this place sound clutch. Well, dang. It was BAD. Started out with being seated right next to the door, which I understand it sucks in a full house you don't get much of a say, but when it's about 20 degrees outside and it keeps opening, put up a patrician. Had to asked to be moved when tables started opening up because the appetizer got so cold so quickly due to the door problem. Secondly, the food. I ordered the meatloaf, per the recommendation of the waiter. The kitchen had already ran out of pork belly and salmon which took out a lot of their menu. I asked for fingerling potatoes in leu of the mashed potatoes, and my co worker got the crispy chicken. As you can see by the photos, the meatloaf was black. Burnt black. And I had mashed potatoes. Am I impressed? No. It took way to long to be disappointed for burnt meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Hope someone else has better luck eating there than we did. read more
