So so so delicious for an amazing assortment of southern foods with a taste of chef Edward Lee's Korean heritage fused in. I went here for a 3 year anniversary with my boyfriend and the service and ambience were impeccable. Our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly, and the restaurant is unassuming on the outside and cozier and comfortable on the inside. It felt very intimate. Unfortunately, this was a 2-3 star experience for a special anniversary dinner. The total cost of the meal with the wine pairing was $485 for two people. The food was very good, and there were six courses. However, the service during and between courses was either rushed or nonexistent. At one point, we had six glasses on our table (two water and four wine), and it took about 20 minutes for the servers to clear them. We are fans of Chef Edward Lee from his appearance on the Black Spoon vs. White Spoon Netflix series, so we were excited to make the trip to 610. Made the trip to Louisville from SF just for this restaurant and it did not disappoint. Exactly what you'd expect if you're familiar with Chef Edward Lee's approach and culinary skill. The coursed menu was outstanding with Korean-infused flavors woven throughout -- the gochujang butter was unforgettable. The wine pairing was a perfect complement. We were lucky that Chef Lee was in and had the chance to meet him. Truly delicious, satisfying food. Nothing too extravagant or overindulgent, just high quality, unique and memorable. Okinawa sweet potato gnocchi was incredible. Halibut and PEI mussels were incredible. Kalbi braised short ribs were incredible. Dining room is small, open and dim, maybe 20 tables. Music is contemporary and nice, kept at a volume that allows easy, quiet conversation. Service is very professional and respectful but not, like, "elite" -- we're still in Louisville. Cost is very high by Louisville standards at $125/person, but I'd say worth it for a 5-course prix fixe menu: an amuse-bouche, 2 seafood courses, a pasta course, a meat entree, and a dessert. I'd recommend skipping the wine pairing and just ordering your own drink(s), the pairing's a $65 add-on and didn't deepen the flavor experience for me. I also think the smoky bourbon dessert is made more for the 'Gram but it's fine, the lemon mochi cake was better. Also read the bill, even tho you'll wanna be classy and act rich when it comes. I think they add gratuity automatically to all bills (they did to ours as a table of 2) -- and that's fine, I actually appreciated it, just check so you don't accidentally double-tip (or do, but do so knowingly). Overall 610 is a lovely, quietly-chic restaurant at the top of the Louisville dining scene, leaning much harder on quality dishes prepared extremely well than on flashiness or gimmicks to set itself apart. What an incredible experience. When you arrive, 610 magnolia looks like a house but appearances are deceiving. You walk in to a beautiful dining room where for ONCE, the tables are actually not squished next to each other. We were greeted by our waitress Paula who was awesome. The gnocchi came with house made sourdough bread and sorghum butter that I could've eaten for days. The bass and shrimp were excellent. The entrees blew us away. The quail was cooked to perfection. The pork was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside with the most stunning kimchi I have ever eaten. Dessert was no exception. An experience that lays not just with the food, but the staff. We had to switch our birthday reservation last minute due to driving our sweet cat Luna to the animal hospital. I felt horrible. Manager Anna was not a teensy bit worried about our cancelation, but exceptionally worried about our cat. She went on to ask Luna's name and other questions. Experiencing this human kindness meant the world - especially in that moment. Anna moved our reservation to the next day and made sure we were exceptionally cared for! She paired Neve to be our server (also a cat lover). I was surprised when he asked about Luna! We went on to swap cat photos and names. It was basic human connection - that I feel is often lost in society and certainly in dining experiences. Not at 610. Expect staff to care about you. Due to the cost and the desire to tip 30%+, a meal like 610 happens once a year for us. However, after this experience, we will go to less date nights - just to experience 610 more. So I'm an Edward Lee super fan and it's taken me more than 10 years to finally make it out to Louisville. But now that I knew we were coming out there, there was no way I was going to skip out on visiting 610 Magnolia. We booked our reservations a month out just to be safe and we finally got to experience one of my bucket list restaurants. It's a very quaint and modest atmosphere inside with a very patient and pleasantly cheerful wait staff. We had three different waiters/waitresses serve us and they each were all just unbelievably nice and explained each course in detail as it came out. This was a 5 course meal experience served without wine at 110 dollars per person, with an additional 65 dollar charge for wine pairings. There were at least two selections per course except for the second course which was not optional. Let's get into the meal. My wife and I each ordered differently on every optional course so we can experience the entire menu, which is what we recommend as the way to go. Our waitress started us off with their Signature BLT Amuse Bouche with Foie Gras. It packed a huge smoke filled bite and was the perfect way to set us off into this journey. First course, my wife got the New Potatoes with Mushroom Purée and I had the Tuna Ceviche in Coconut Milk with Papaya. These were delicious dishes on their own but not dishes I would call show stoppers. But a pleasant way to start it all off. The potatoes were crispy and lovely smeared in that earthy mushroom purée and my tuna was cold and fresh and super tangy in that coconut milk. Second Course was the Rye Capellini with Duck Ragu with an additional 20 dollar charge for shaved truffle on top (which we both opted in on). This dish was absolutely fantastic. Here was our showstopper. Just a super flavor bomb, I would have eaten a trough full of it. Chef's kiss perfection. Third course. I got the Green Mussels in Green Curry and she got the Octopus. So my mussels dish was very clean and fresh super balanced on flavor and the mussels were cooked spot on with a lovely chew. If you like Thai curry, then please enjoy this dish. But her octopus dish was the dish of the evening, month, and year! This octopus dish needs its own restaurant like yesterday! 10/10 on flavor and texture and concept and execution. You could taste the char and chew on it was perfect. That dish was worth the trip alone. Fourth course. My wife got the Pork Tenderloin Pozole and I got the Duck Breast with Buckwheat and Black Garlic. Her Pozole was the ultimate comfort food. It felt homey like grandma made it but super elevated and refined. The broth made me think of street birria tacos (in the most complimentary way) but the flavor all around was subtle and maybe even intentionally muted. A very successful dish. My duck breast was everything! Perfectly cooked with a skin so crispy I thought I was eating a chicharron and when smeared in that pomegranate molasses sauce, I literally felt my eyes roll back. The buckwheat was a perfect way to help cut the richness of the duck too. Another brilliantly composed dish. Fifth course. I got the Chess Pie with Sweet Potato Ice Cream and she got the Bourbon Aficionado with Drunken Banana Cake, homemade Butterscotch and Brown Butter Ice Cream. Guess who's dessert was better lol. Look my sweet potato ice cream was creamy and unctuous and didn't melt on my plate and the flavor on my chess pie was divine (the crust was a bit thick for my preference, but that's just a preference). Hers was damn near orgasmic. From flavors to textures to the visual appeal of the smoke being released from the glass. This is the dessert you want to finish with. All in all, 2 meals, 2 truffle upgrades, 3 drinks with tip we were in on 400 dollars for this meal. At the end of it all, I just found myself grateful that i finally to be able to enjoy Edward Lee's vision. read more

I happened to be in town during Derby Week. Based on reviews, I went to 610. They had a special prefix menu with choices for $150. The outside of the restaurant is crazy boring. Almost looks like you are walking into a warehouse, but inside is a vibrant, cool, small dining room/bar. The evening started started off with a small bites plate of 6 different canapes (see menu photo for descriptions). Super delish! Then, I had Green Garlic Ricotta Gnocchi, Ramp Cream, Asparagus, Preserved Lemon, Country Ham. It was amazing. Lots of flavors. For the entree, I went with Kalbi Ribeye, Gochujang Butter, Parmesan Grits, Zucchini, Fiddlehead Ferns. Cooked perfectly. The vegetables were amazing. remarkable. This is definitely worth the price of the meal for this stellar of an experience. The building is very low profile and modest. You almost could pass it and not give it a second thought. Inside the space is quiet, reserved and sophisticated. There is a second floor which I am not sure is a private space or just more seating, and an outdoor patio which I definitely would want to come back to sit at in the nicer months. It is a set menu (some courses you do have a choice between two dishes) and you can opt to have a wine pairing or not (I did not because it was mostly white wine the night I was there and I don't really care for white). When you make a reservation they ask if you have any dietary restrictions. I do not, but my date has a seafood intolerance so they made one of the courses vegetarian, which is so great. There are six courses including a tiny amuse bouche of their version of a BLT, which is made with an absolutely succulent piece of pork belly. The courses I selected were: 1) Hamachi Crudo (Cherry Tomatoes, Radish, Kombu, Tomato Water Dashi) 2) Butternut and Black Garlic Agnolotti (Hazelnut, Brown Butter, Goat Cheese, Sage) 3) Seared Scallop (Peanut Pesto, Edamame Grits, King Oyster Mushrooms, Pickled Peppers) 4) Venison (Celery Root, Brussels Sprouts, Cippolini Onion, Haskapberry Jus) 5) Creme Caramel (sorghum, apple, persimmon and black walnut) If I had any critique it would be that the creme caramel was disappointing. I told the server about an oyster dish I had about 7 years ago that I still think about as least once a week. Someone who worked in kitchen who remembered the dish came out and showed me a photo of the dish to make sure we were on the same page. Wow. Just wow. I am still trying to comprehend how incredible of a meal this was as I type about it the following day. Wanted to go somewhere local and unique for my golden birthday, and 610 had been on my Louisville bucket list for quite some time. I emailed the manager Liz to arrange for a reservation about a month or so in advance which was pretty painless and simple. It was cool to let them know in advance that someone in our party of 4 was pescatarian. Our reservation was for 6:30, so we all had a cocktail/wine before getting the overview and rundown of the nights menu offerings. I had the Fennel Sazerac which was phenomenal. The 5 course seasonal food menu was slightly intimidating to decipher all at once, but our server did an awesome job giving us about a 3-4 minute explanation before giving us some time to make our choices. To start, the 610 BLT was not what I was expecting, but a perfect segway into what to expect for the other dishes. I am not sure how it is possible for so many 'simple' items to be condensed into this mini square with perfect texture, but they did it. I could have eaten about 30, but I'll settle with the one I had. Next up, the Duck Rillette. The combination of the whole grain mustard, pickled vegetables, and the duck spread on a crunchy crostini was like nothing I had ever experienced before. The Buckwheat Noodles were mouth watering. With tiny bits of smoked salmon and caviar on top, the consistency was perfection. Up next came the Snow Crab. I would never have thought that a steamed egg would pair in a bowl next to bits of crab meat, but it worked. The fourth course was the largest portion by far. I went with the Guinea Fowl, which is comparable to very tender chicken drum with more appeasing texture and taste. The winter squash and creamed cabbage along with the smoked jus paired exquisitely with every bite. Finally, the dessert. I thought I died and ascended to heaven when I took the first bite of the Bourbon Aficionado. I'm not exaggerating that one bit. Sure, it wasn't cheap when the fun was over and we got our bill, but you only live once, right? My husband and I ate at 610 Magnolia to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. This is our new favorite restaurant. Literally everything we tasted was magical. I very much appreciated the non rushed service and the lighting here. On top of the amazing food. I am obsessed with the sorgham butter with smoked salt. Last night we enjoyed a fun tasting menu at 610 Magnolia! They offer a 5 and a 9 course tasting menu. We didn't find out until we arrived, but if you're interested in the 9 course menu you have book that ahead of time. *Amuse Bouche a fun take on a B.L.T. and a perfect intro to our meal! I have to admit I wasn't expecting a pate, but it was a nice surprise. *Course 1 salad Both dishes were excellent choices! I liked that the beets were prepared 2 ways. In the carrot panna cotta the texture differences with the panna cotta and the toasted spiced almonds were great. *Course 2 pasta This course had only this option as chef wanted everyone to try it. The gnudi is a gnocchi like dumpling made with ricotta cheese instead of potato. It was delicious and went perfectly with the asparagus cream. *Course 3 seafood The scallop here was cooked perfectly and definitely my favorite of the two. The Halibut is not to be overlooked. Coming from someone who hates collards I will say they made the perfect bite with the Halibut. *Course 4 entrée The quail came highly recommended, but the lamb was my pick. No gimmicks involved, the whole five course menu tasted as great as it looked.
