Was so looking forward to writing great things about this place. All prior reviews with 5 stars made this place sound clutch. Well, dang. It was BAD. Started out with being seated right next to the door, which I understand it sucks in a full house you don't get much of a say, but when it's about 20 degrees outside and it keeps opening, put up a patrician. Had to asked to be moved when tables started opening up because the appetizer got so cold so quickly due to the door problem. Secondly, the food. I ordered the meatloaf, per the recommendation of the waiter. The kitchen had already ran out of pork belly and salmon which took out a lot of their menu. I asked for fingerling potatoes in leu of the mashed potatoes, and my co worker got the crispy chicken. As you can see by the photos, the meatloaf was black. Burnt black. And I had mashed potatoes. Am I impressed? No. It took way to long to be disappointed for burnt meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Hope someone else has better luck eating there than we did. read more

We were in town for a birthday party and stopped in before leaving town. It was a great choice. It doesn't seat lots people, but the food was awesome! My wife had the shrimp and grits ( Very keto friendly) using cauliflower grits. I had the smash burger, It was very good. Parking was easy & Loved the town. This was 1st time I have used Toast. I didn't get this recommendation from Yelp. In fact, it was hard to find for me (page 2). We were a party of 11, with 4 from Chicago (me & my family) & 3 from St Augustine. This is a very good restaurant for Chicago. For Corydon, IN, it's exceptional. We had drinks, apps & entrees. The old fashioned was well received by two of our party. Apps included poutine, egg rolls & fried broccoli- all were well received! Apps across the board included Fish & chips (huge/good), Smash burger (all liked), Chicken & waffles (good, waffles not as good as the chicken) & General Tsos Chicken. Service was attentive. This is an absolute gem- I can't believe I haven't been here before! My wife, mother in-law, sister in laws have visited & really enjoy this spot. So, this is a 5-star review x8 (minus the teens... who incidentally enjoyed)! I travel for work 50+ nights a year & we eat out another 50+ times a year around Chicago- this is objectively a great spot and a truly special spot for this area! This small, quaint little place in Corydon is the REAL DEAL. GREAT food, fantastic service, and a comfortable, non-pretentious vibe. We visited on Saturday for lunch. The building was beautiful and felt very comfortable. Our server was not as friendly as she could have been but maybe she was just having an off day. The fried green tomatoes were AMAZING and really gave us high hopes for the rest of the meal. Unfortunately the General Tso Pork Belly looked better than it tasted. The rice and sauce were delicious but the meat was tough and dry. My husband ordered the meatloaf which did not look very appetizing but did taste pretty good- especially with the gravy that came with it. I was disappointed that they only serve the dinner menu on Saturdays as I really had my heart set on the Pork Belly BLT on the lunch menu. It was pretty good and I would recommend checking them out but I felt it was a little bit overpriced for the quality. read more

We have been on multiple road trips throughout the United States of America and this restaurant is by far one of the best we have ever been to. From the selection of drinks, to the absolutely delicious divine flavor of dishes to the outstanding service! My family had the Eliot ness Baer lager, truffle fries, smash burgers, chicken and ramen and finished off with the bread pudding. We are foodie heaven!!! Great food spot in corydon, probably the nicest spot in town. We split truffle fries that were fantastic and a great starter. I got the general tso which was good. I do wish the server would have followed up to suggest chicken or pork belly. The menu list both as an option and I forgot to specify. By default I got chicken, but really wanted pork belly and forgot to specify. We also got the Cajun shrimp n grits. The grits were probably the best we've ever had. Everything had good flavor and a nice kick that wasn't too overpowering. For drinks I got the elmarita (margarita with blood orange) and this was fantastic! Defiantly going to add blood orange to my margs going forward. Also tried the Crazy Daisy which has an electric powder rim. This is a cool powder that stimulates salivary glands. I wish this could have been explained better by the server as they just said it was a numbing sensation. I had to google what I was even eating which is kind of a bummer. Defiantly recommend this spot for dinner, but think they can do a lot better with educating staff of dishes and cocktails. Also no full bar or person trained on making off menu drinks which is a bummer. Also had to google what happened in 1816 to see where the name came from. Would be cute to put a blurb about this on the menu so it felt more cohesive. Decor was cute in the main area, but had a religious theme in the bathroom that felt not cohesive. We found 1816 Modern Kitchen through Yelp, as we were unfamiliar with the area and needed some leads. We decided to give this restaurant a try, after a family fun day, because the food photos looked delicious. The decor was cute, and unfortunately, that's where the pleasantry ended. We walked in around 5:15pm. The place had patrons but wasn't overly packed. We were advised that they didn't have room for us until about 8:30pm. The hostess was apologetic but explained that "they had some big wigs" that they needed to accommodate that night. 2/5 stars because we were turned away about as quickly as we arrived! Maybe we will give the restaurant a try again if we're in the area. We shall see. read more

The food here is amazing and the service matches! We couldn't decide on an appetizer, so we ordered them all. We also had the burger, chicken and waffles, and general tso chicken. Twice visited over 3 days. I couldn't believe the flavors of our appetizer, Fried Green Tomatoes. I don't like tomatoes period but these were indescribably flavor bombed. A thin slice of tart apple and pimento and jalapeno jam. Just enough heat and crispness all from 5-6 local farmers vegetables. The entrees are temp hot and seasoned tangy to allow all the flavors explode. Having Gen Tso and Korean Shrimp made me eat items I normally disliked but this combination was irresistible. I cleaned the plates, making 3 meals. Our waiters and waitresses were stealth keeping our drinks topped and replaced. The area is small and intimate and the area people were friendly with advice. Just wow! Since Bobby was so kind and took time out of his day for an interview, what better restaurant to try? For an appetizer we wanted to try the poutine. It was awesome. Freshly cut fries with crispy pork belly, a delicious smoked Gouda gravy and picked jalapeños. Super tasty. For the entree I chose Ramen with pork belly, Brussels sprouts and radish slices. Just a little kick of heat from the jalapeños. The broth is out of this world. So rich and flavorful. If you ever wanted to know what the word umami means, try this. This is one amazing dish. I'm glad there is enough left over for another meal! It is a full quart. Hubby wanted a burger and so the smash burger was the way to go. It sure doesn't look smashed! Two. Thick. Burgers. Added pork belly, on an amazing seeded bun. Also served with a very generous portion of hand cut fries. All this for just $46 INCLUDING a 20% tip? We stumbled onto this 1816 Modern Kitchen & Dinks while walking around downtown Corden for the wine walk and we were pleasantly surprised by the wonderful lunch. We both ordered this Smashburger which was amazing and I had the basil gimlet with strawberry and my friend had the Moscow Mule both drinks were great but I believe mine was better ;) We had such a great time that we decided to come back for dinner later this week. Service and food were amazing. On our second visit tried the Ramen and was not pleased at all, the miso broth was sweet and the egg was over cooked. I still like this restaurant but I would order the burger instead. read more

I'm from Louisville but was meeting a friend in Corydon for dinner and had this spot on my list. We weren't sure if we needed reservations but since they accepted reservations, we made some anyhow...a Wednesday night at 7pm. Glad we did because we didn't realize how small this place was. For dinner, I ordered the salmon which was served on succotash. This dish was great, perfectly cooked, with the right amount broil on top for that slight crusting. My friend ordered the steak-n-chips... a flat iron steak with chimichurri, served with parmesan and blue cheese fries. Had my friend not already decided to order this dish, I would have because I love chimichurri steak. This dish was wonderful as well... perfectly cooked steak (he ordered medium, I would've ordered medium rare; however, it was very flavorful) and tasty fries. I'm not a blue cheese fan but it's just crumbles on the fries so it's easy to not have it with your bite; although, I tried it and it wasn't a powerful blue cheese flavor with the bite of fries. I actually liked it. They have some specialty cocktails on their menu and I really like trying different ones at the different places I go, so here, I had their lavender mule. Very good with not too much of a lavender taste. The restaurant's service was super fast and our waitress was friendly. As mentioned earlier, it is very small so if going at a popular time, you should make reservations, just in case. They also close pretty early... 8pm. We didn't realize that so we wrapped up faster than we probably would have if they stayed open later. read more

Enjoyed our Thursday evening meal. Very small and quant spot. Food was delicious. Got the shrimp and chorizo nachos to share, orange salmon and wild boar rigatoni. The nachos were such a fantastic combination of flavors, would definitely get again. Salmon was tasteful and filling without being too heavy on the stomach. Wild boar rigatoni was full of flavor. Stopped in for lunch today first visit and will definitely be back. For lunch I chose the small garden salad, fried green tomatoes, and iced tea. Salad was fresh with fantastic dressing. Fried green tomatoes are one of my favorites try them anytime I see them on a menu and these were right up there with ones I had had in the low country. Cooked perfectly with a delicious pimento cheese to give them some sharp contrast. Beautifully plated and pleasant to the eye as well as the tummy. Can't wait to return and try the dinner menu! I didn't like it because the lettuce wasn't cut up. Looks like someone just took the arugula out of a bag and put it on the plate. I expect food to be prepared before serving. Customers pay a lot of money to have a meal prepared in this case the work wasn't done. read more

This was some of the best food we've had! My husband had the Cheezus sandwich on the sweet potato biscuit. The biscuit and cheese sauce alone could have been enough for me, but the chicken and sweet spicy sauce made the whole thing amazing! I had the black bean soup Bc it was GF ( and yes I still tried the biscuit and it was worth it!) AND GET THE TRUFFLE FRIES!! Don't hesitate. Don't question. Just get them. We walked in for lunch today and there were 3 open tables (4 tops). We were a party of 5. They had one reservation for a party of 4 on the books. We asked if we could put the two tables together as we would not fit in a single 4 top (we had two adult men in our party). The sweet hostess (Natalie) tried to figure it out but had to ask the manager if she could combine the tables. She also told us about the other reservation. Her manager told her she could not combine the tables and did not offer us the opportunity to wait for another table. At that point, we were not seated - even with the three open tables so we left. I have worked for many years in the restaurant industry and as a hostess/server/bartender the rule I always followed was to do what I could to seat tables, especially for larger parties as that is wheRe the bigger tips come from. If I had been waitressing there, I would have been pretty angry to watch a decent size party with a decent potential tip walk away!! After we left, I called the restaurant and asked to speak to the manager. From the start he was defensive (I suppose he was the person who the sweet hostess talked to) and stated they were already booked. Since the hostess had already confirmed they only had the one 4 top coming in, this was a blatant lie. Why would any manager turn away business? We were not dressed like homeless, street urchins and have dined at the restaurant before, hence our excitement to go back. In short, the manager was rude and had no clue how restaurant seating should work? Maybe he was having a bad day but he just lost us as customers for life. If you wish to be treated badly, by all means go to this restaurant- I do hope the owner sees this review and follows up with this manager. He is really clueless and is costing the restaurant business!! I'm a long time Corydon restaurant and will certainly be spreading the word. By the way, we ate at Flip Daddys, sat in a very comfortable booth and had amazing food and service! i am sure the manager is going to post some sort of rebuttal about reservations but rest assured, we saw the upcoming reservation list and there was only 1 other party coming in.
