We stayed two nights here while visiting Yellowstone and it was exactly what we wanted. We actually switched to this place mid-trip. We'd been booked at an older property inside the park with no air conditioning, cancelled it, and found the 1872. Best decision we made. The AC worked exactly as it should, and after long days in the park it made a real difference. It's an adults-only boutique property at the edge of town -- close enough to walk downtown, far enough to escape the crowds and noise. Quiet is the word that keeps coming to mind, and that's rare in a gateway town in August. Check-in was easy, and the gentleman at the front desk walked us to the room himself and showed us how everything worked -- the gas fireplace, the towel warmer for the bath towels. Small touches, but you notice when someone takes the time. The room was spotless and a good size. We had four pieces of luggage open at once and never felt crowded. Beds were very comfortable. Anything we asked for, we got. We loved it and would stay here again without hesitation. The switching story is the strongest thing in the review now. Anyone weighing in-park lodging against staying in West Yellowstone is going to read that paragraph and make a decision. read more

Probably one of the best hotels I've stayed at in years. Perfect for a romantic getaway or just a nice quiet stay (no children). Amazingly comfortable beds (really!!), in room fireplace and dual person showers. The furniture, headboard and trim all reclaimed wood and a very above standard Continental breakfast. Walkable distance to the touristy shops and great food of downtown West Yellowstone (an oddly large amount of ice cream shops). When we first checked in, I was so happy with everything. The lobby, the service, the room with fireplace, double shower heads (on opposite sides) in shower very romantic and great atmosphere. I loved it so much we extended our stay another night (from two to three nights)... well had I not extended it it would have been 5 stars. However since we had gotten up early the previous morning I'm talking 3 am to drive into park before sunrise, we hoped to sleep in, but I was awoken by a LOT of noise around 6 am. I was so sad as the previous two nights were barely short of perfect. I literally had to go investigate where this loud banging was coming from... it was behind a closed "employee door" and I believe it was laundry and there must have been boots in the dryer or something that was banging every 3 seconds. Cry face. So I guess the walls and ceilings aren't as sound proof as I had originally thought, I also stayed at a time where it was not sold out so that may have helped my first impression. I recommend very much if you are a deep sleeper. I would most likely stay again as well but ask for maybe an end of the hall room away from laundry. Also service was fantastic and the two men we encountered working were soooo friendly and nice and we liked chatting with them. Breakfast I didn't have but hubs said it was a great layout. I definitely should note the Bed and pillows were comfy. It was a softer bed but still supportive and my bed at home is pretty dang firm and I slept great (other than above). West Yellowstone is adorable and don't miss out on the Buffalo bar. read more

Outstanding in all aspects: we were checked in by Jannel who was bright, cheerful and very nice. She even walked us to our room and showed us around a bit too. Room was very well appointed, Dbl shower for two, fireplace, a few snacks, soda, water, etc. The breakfast in the morning was more than you could ask for: two different style scramble eggs, potatoes, bacon, oatmeal, breads, donuts, fruit, yogurt, cereal. The decor was beautiful throughout the property, you couldn't ask for anything more from a stay in West Yellowstone or anywhere else for that matter. It was great staying at an adults only property. It was nice and quiet. There's a free parking lot. The room is very nice, nice bedding. As others mentioned, I was disappointed in the breakfast. I think the items came from Costco. The potatoes didn't seem freshly made. Muffins aren't homemade. I still would return as it's a very nice hotel. Just wish they would improve the quality of the breakfast. read more

No better place to stay in West Yellowstone! Stayed two nights here while visiting the park. The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. This is the nicest place in town, and being adults only, a nice touch as well. They charge like a 4-star hotel yet there are no amenities or service, also no elevator. The rooms are European style, very small, and not sure why, it's in Montana so not like space is an issue. The rooms are well-appointed, great bed, decor, furniture, the bathroom is huge with his and her shower, nice romantic touch. There is no place to relax in the room, just one chair and the desk is useless, it just feels cramped and like a place to sleep only. My biggest issue with them. The breakfast was horrible, it was like a motel. No vegetables, soggy oatmeal, very little fruit, bread from the supermarket instead of fresh from the bakery, eggs were the only thing could eat so we had to supplement. Also, it should start earlier, at 6 am instead of 7 am since people leave early to see animals. Having said all this, given the options we would stay again, they have a captive audience and don't have to try too hard. read more

This hotel is great for adults looking for a break from all the swarms of families around America's First Park. The location is quiet, but close to the hubbub of W Yellowstone. The decor is fabulous, breakfast is good, the lounge area comfortable and every employee is kind and friendly. The only trouble we had was the people above us seemingly doing the Riverdance from 5:30-7:00 AM. Why any two people need to stomp across a room hundreds of times so early in the morning is unimaginable to me. But that can happen anywhere, might as well be in a swanky, cool spot when it does. read more

Really 3.5 stars, rounding up. 1872 Inn is a lovely boutique, adults only accommodation a bit further away from the center of West Yellowstone but just a few minutes drive and maybe a 10 minute walk from the hustle and bustle. After my husband and I stayed at the Best Western Desert Inn for our last night I had a new appreciation for the fact that this hotel is relatively quiet with no kids and no crowds. Let me start with the positives (and there are many)... The decor in the lobby is beautiful and the rooms are well appointed. For a 3-star accommodation they offer amenities that 5-star accommodations usually provide, like a robe and slippers as well as a fireplace. I loved that the shower was huge with dual shower heads and that they provided his and hers toiletries. It was really nice to have double sinks. The room was not large but it was immaculately clean and big enough for two. Service provided by the hotel staff was friendly and courteous. The complimentary "continental" breakfast was actually quite substantial. The hard boiled eggs were rubbery and not good but the rest of the spread was great. There were two different types of eggs, bacon, fruit, yogurt, a variety of breads and pastries, coffee/tea, juices and two types of milk. The reason why I can't give this place 5 stars is because of the thin walls. I am a light sleeper and for someone like me we got possibly the worst room in the bunch: room 1, which is on the ground floor closest to the lobby. This meant that we heard any kind of conversation that occurred in the lobby and footsteps from above. Despite all the wonderful qualities this hotel has my number one priority, especially with early morning wake up calls to head to Yellowstone National Park, is to get a good night's sleep. I was woken up several times by noise outside my room. I would consider staying here again but only if I could guarantee a second floor room all the way down the hall. We also paid over $400/night. Despite all the amenities I still believe this is overpriced. $325 (low season) to $375 (high season) would be more reasonable. read more

There's only 18 rooms and adults only it's really quiet and relaxing. The lobby is one of nicest in town and they have a little dining area and OK breakfast. The hotel closes in Oct and is only open 5 months a year it's a one minute drive or a 5 minute walk to downtown. The robes and slippers were a nice touch read more

Once again, my fellow Yelpers steered me in the absolute right direction! What a little gem of a place. My husband and I pulled into West Yellowstone after a long drive, and were immediately charmed by the exterior. The small building on the edge of town sports weathered-looking wood, 'rusted' metal signage, flickering lantern-style exterior lights, and lovely plants and flowers. My best description of it is farmhouse modern. Inside, it's a rustic/modern and very welcoming place. The entire building has an amazing light forest scent, like a very expensive candle in the best possible way. The combination lobby / breakfast area has a variety of comfortable chairs and a fireplace. The walls are bright white, accented with wood, linen curtains, and Montana decor like paintings of landscapes and buffalo. We were greeted by an enthusiastic and friendly front desk clerk who checked us in, escorted us to our room, and showed us around the amenities. We were on the second floor and should note that they don't have an elevator. The young man who checked us in offered to carry luggage up, but the stairs were not a problem. Our room was small, but very comfortable and well-appointed. The luxurious double shower was a real treat, as were the wonderful linens and the complimentary snacks and drinks. Thoughtful touches included high-quality his and hers toiletries, a makeup mirror and dedicated makeup removal towel, a heated towel rack, robes and slippers, a coffee maker, refrigerator, and loads of device charging ports. (We moved on to a large, but nice, chain hotel when we left West Yellowstone, and I really wish I had taken the 1872 Inn toiletries because I missed them so much in comparison to standard hotel issue!) We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel because we wanted to head straight into the park as early as possible, but the spread looked very nice. We did take advantage of the complimentary coffee and fruit-infused water in the lobby. The front desk clerk also recommended a place for late-night eats, even providing a highlighted map to get there. Add in the fact that they don't allow kids, and we were in complete getaway heaven. I don't know when we'll get to visit West Yellowstone again, but I know for sure where we'll be staying! read more

Quite likely will extend to another night. It's very clean, the staff is very accommodating and the room itself is wonderful. If I ever decide to visit Yellowstone National Park again I will be staying here no doubt about it. My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights and we were impressed. The Inn is about a minute drive from the West Entrance of the park and there are good places to eat in town. I will say this once and please believe me, do not ever stay at a hotel inside of the park. We had booked 2 nights at the Canyon Lodge and it was horrible. As soon as we walked into our room we called the front desk and asked for a full refund because we were leaving immediately. We called the front desk at 1872 Inn and luckily they had a room available for 2 nights. Came back here and we felt like we hit the lottery. 10/10 would recommend this place to anyone! read more

We decided to book this hotel after browsing the accommodation options in West Yellowstone. It was a bit pricier than the usual motels/inns and we thought we'd give it a chance. Best decision ever! The place is absolutely charming, comfortable and well maintained. Everything was new and spotlessly clean. Our King size room was a bit on the small side but perfectly decorated, and included a gas fireplace. The bathroom is quite large with double showers and his and hers sink. I wish I had the same at home. What stands out at this property is the attention to detail: complimentary snacks in the lobby and in the room, the cosiest common areas, a delicious breakfast buffet with fresh and healthy products and lots to choose from. Also the woody smell of infused essential oils all around. Service was attentive and friendly. Overall this place is a dream! read more

I am in hotel heaven! This hotel has everything times 2! King size comfortable bed with noise cancellation alarm clock. His and hers vanity sinks, his and hers showers and towel warmers. Complimentary robes. Krupps coffee maker, steamer instead of iron (which works much better in my humble opinion). Flat screen tv above a fireplace. The hotel is located at the end of the hotel row so its quiet but close enough to walk to everywhere. The concierge service was really handy as we traveled the park all day and were tired. There are numerous channels on the tv so lots to veg out on. There are numerous attractions located close by along with an IMAX Yellowstone Park adventure (last show is early) and a Grizzily Bear/Wolf experience. We can't wait to try the breakfast. We had never been to Yellowstone or Montana/Wyoming before so we didn't know what to expect. This hotel is in the town of West Yellowstone. It's great if your planning a trip to Yellowstone Park because this hotel is 5 minutes from the West entrance. No kids are allowed at this hotel; which helps keep it super quiet and very very clean!! The rooms yes are small but very cozy. I really appreciated how this hotel put so much effort in the details. The decor is on point and the rooms are loaded with everything you could need. Huge showers!! One thing I enjoyed most is that the rooms are equipped with an itinerary for seeing Yellowstone Park. If your like us and have never been before, you can follow the itinerary day-by-day that is offered in the room. It was a superb itinerary (my husband and I followed it for two days in the Park) and allows you to see all the good highlights of the park. read more

We did an end of Summer trip to the Tetons and Yellowstone region. Almost all the hotels in the area were fully booked, so we were somewhat skeptical to find this hotel with open rooms. I have to say this is one of the best small hotels I have ever stayed at. Great rooms with everything you need. Very helpful staff. It's on the edge of town, so if you don't like to walk it's a little out the way. But if you don't mind a 5-10 minute walk, it's perfect. A little gem read more
