I discovered the webcams for the West Gate Hotel this winter and it made my life so much easier. I live about 90 miles from West Yellowstone and it's one of my favorite places to snowmobile. The West Gate Hotel is right next to the trailhead and by checking out their webcams I can see the conditions for sledding. And if you are going to West Yellowstone to hike/jeep the trails into Two Top and beyond, it's about as perfect a starting off point as you'll find. So the place is a bit dated, for sure, but you came to Yellowstone to be out in nature, and this is a great location for that. read more

Update your rooms at least to the 2020's. First thing that caught my attention when we walked into the room was that it had a musty odor. Then I went to turn on the air and nope no air, probably wouldn't have mattered much anyway because the second room was more less closed off from the rest of the space if the door was closed and it had no air. After traveling all day naturally everybody wanted to charge their devices. This room and no means of charging devices other than the outlets required by code when the place was built. They could at least update their table lights that have means to do this. I had mixed feelings about how dark the halls are and rooms, but then I thought it kind of has that western feel. Breakfast, hahaha, best breakfast in town as the billboard states. No way, there was nothing special about this breakfast. Scrambled eggs,(no stand alone meats, such as sausage or ham)cereal, grits, toast, pancakes that you put in the toaster, really. Nothing was to order or off the grill. You get the same breakfast at a Hampton Inn and your stay is a heck of a lot less. Then what made it worse, is that they are essentially at the end of Madison and it nearly took an hour from there to the gate, traffic is horrific and it was during the week. Wonderful customer service! The man at the front desk was lovely and very helpful. Check in was very easy. Free hotel parking and free hot breakfast. They have coffee, tea, and water available 24/7. Location is very convenient to the West Yellowstone gate entrance. Also very convenient to town. There were plenty of restaurants, bars, and markets nearby. The room itself was pretty spacious and equipped with microwave and fridge. Beds were pretty comfortable. Also have an indoor pool and hot tub which we used once. The hot tub jets were very weak though. My only complaint is the breakfast is very bad and low quality so I wouldn't recommend eating it. Otherwise our entire stay was great for the value. read more

We had a lovely stay of 4 nights. I just noticed the webcam so I can gauge the winter. The hotel has the Yellowstone country feel. The complimentary breakfast had a good selection of items. The Front Desk personnel were very helpful with information and they even let us borrow bear spray! How lucky is that? It is an older hotel but it was clean & the service was good. The location is very good to Main Street West Yellowstone & eateries. A few "downsides" such as small round toilets & the loud AC room unit, but hey, it's not a 5 Star Hotel in Vegas. Stayed here for my first visit back in Oct 2021. It's affordable and they have plenty of onsite parking. Free breakfast in the morning with rotating foods the 3 nights I stayed. Great for large families. I loved that they have an indoor pool for the kids to use during the night time. read more

Pros: The room accurately matched its description online, hotel was clean, pool clean, staff was friendly, and Breakfast was good! Cons:Their parking lot is small in my opinion (but driving around a bit. I think this is a common theme with hotels here), and the carpet in the hallway was atrocious! Hah! But the biggest let down for me at this hotel, was the bed. For the price I paid. I expect a comfortable bed. It was rock hard!! I stayed 3 nights, after hiking 2 days straight, and a rough night sleep all 3 nights. I was exhausted on my drive to CO my 3rd morning. So much soo, I was failing asleep an hour into my drive. On 7-8hrs of sleep. I had to grab an energy drink just to drive. And I never drink caffeine/coffee nor need it. read more

The room had a "funky" odor to it. Visible mold was seen in the shower. The HVAC unit sounded like a train going through the room as it ran. I felt that the bed was uncomfortable. The breakfast was fair. A large piece of equipment was parked in two of the three handicap parking spots that the hotel has to offer. I use handicap parking when I need to and have the proper placard. I wanted to use a handicap spot but was unable to due to equipment being parked in two spots. The only parking spots available were as far away as possible from the door. The staff is very friendly but didn't have much to say when notified about issues at the hotel. I felt that the rooms were VERY overpriced for what the place has to offer. The location is very close to the West gate of Yellowstone, and that's its only value. read more

The place isn't in walking distance to the Main Street but that's just me the rooms were average. The pools small and the breakfast wasn't that great but your probably here to go to the park I'm that case if you get a good room price the place is worth it. Clean, comfortable hotel in the SW corner of town. First - Location: If you're looking for being right in the heart of the restaurants and attractions, this isn't the place. If you're looking to be a 10 minute walk away and have some quiet - this IS the place. To top if off - they border up on state forest (that is adjacent to Yellowstone) - easy access to trails for exploring, biking, etc.... my son went 5.5 miles off into the area on a jeep trail. Second - Room Size: We are a family of 4 - had a large room with 2 queen sized beds - wonderful! Third - Breakfast: Hearty breakfast, had biscuits and gravy, family had waffles - great for stoking up for a day in Yellowstone Fourth - Pool/Hot Tub - they have a large pool with a comfortable hot tub for soaking out the aches and pains after a day of activity. Very little not to like.... the only downside for us (is something that the ownership can't do much about) is that the walls and floors/ceilings aren't very thick. We could easily hear people walking about in the room above us - and sounds from the room next to us. Fortunately, they went to bed early as well. read more

Greed at its lowest. $341 for maybe a Star and a half Hotel. No restaurant, no concierge, no real class. Room ok with fridge, micro and coffee. No view in area that you would think you would be paying for. Felt like one of biggest ripoffs I have experienced. For Jeff S. I am fully familiar with tourist areas as I live in Hawaii. I stayed at this beautiful cozy hotel last week and i couldn't go without leaving a great review because it is well deserved. My sister and I did a week road trip from LA . We arrived to out last destination (yellowstone) late around 10:15 pm. Exhausted from being on the road for a week and sleeping in the car. The front desk host. (the owners, and her husband) were amazing, friendly and kind. Mind you we are from LA and not used to people being nice lol. We were greeted kindly, check in process was smooth. This hotel Offers laundry station, pool, Jacuzzi, and a decent breakfast. When we arrived the pool and the laundry station was closing in 30 minutes. The owner was so sweet when they found out we have been on the road for a week and we have dirty laundry and we are exhausted they ignored the fact that they have to close the pool and the laundry in 30 minutes. We told them it's OK we will do the laundry in the morning. They told us oh no way go ahead do your laundry right now and go enjoy the jacuzzi, we will close it later for you guys. you guys had a late check in and you guys have been on the road for a while I'm sure you guys are tired. They Mentioned you guys had a late check in but I still want you guys to take full advantage of the goodies the hotel offers. Like can u be any more understanding then that? Woow. Great experience over all. Super clean pool, jacuzzi, rooms, beds, bathrooms... and the price is great. And oh my God the location was also amazingly close to all the attraction places we wanted to go in the morning. Like 10 to 15 min away from All the attraction places. Overall very great place with a great customer service and price. I Highly recommend your stay, you will not be Disappointed. And oh I cannot forget about the delicious breakfast we had before we head out for our adventure. The free breakfast saved us another $50 from eating out in the morning. It's a bit set off from the busy part of town ... but not so far that you couldn't walk it in about 10-15 minutes. The staff is very friendly and the breakfast, available till 9 AM is decent. It's got a waffle station, some warm / savory foods and the regular assortment of juices, drinks, bread and pastries. Nice lady working the kitchen makes sure everything is stocked. This breakfast will serve you well enough for your first moderate hike of the day. We had come confusion with our rooms ... we thought we booked a suite but instead it was a giant room with 2 bed and a pull out sofa so it could actually sleep 6 - but with only 1 bathroom, it was rather awkward. I liked that they had a TON of outlets ... so with my very wired / connected family, we didn't have any trouble with each of us claiming our 2-3 outlets for our devices. My only advice to them is that they should add a stand / cabinet and more hooks into the shower / toilet room. It's quite large - but missing a place for you to put your stuff down (unless you put it on the toilet). If you're in a room big enough to sleep 6 people, you likely wouldn't be walking around naked outside the bathroom to get dressed. read more

Let me start off by saying that the location of this hotel is great and.........that's probably it for the positives. For nearly $300/night, you'd think you'd have a comfortable mattress, actual pillows you can sleep on. Pillows are so small, I think they are probably couch pillows. We booked a queen sized bed, but we received what seemed like a full. If the beds are queens, they're the smallest queens you'll see. Sink/vanity area is outside & around the corner of the bathroom. Kind of odd. AC/Heater is very loud & vibrates while on. Almost better keeping it off if you actually want to sleep. Hotel does have a minimal breakfast, which seems to be overrun by all the Chinese tourists. Pool & hot tub on site were nice & the laundry room came in handy. Walking distance to main part of town with plenty of gift shops, movie theater & restaurants. Very short drive to Yellowstone National Park. I guess that's why you pay the ridiculous price of nearly $300/night. Location. While the location is nice, it's hard to justify that price, especially for a hotel of this quality. read more

This hotel was good until the staff told the kids to be quiet in the pool or they would be kicked out. They were not being very loud playing Marco Polo. The reason we chose his hotel was for the pool but shouldn't have bothered due to the kids not being able to enjoy the pool due to rude staff. read more

If you are looking for a place to relax in peace and quiet after your adventure in Yellowstone then this is not the place for you. With paper thin walls and floors you will hear children above you running back and forth for hours. Don't bother calling the front desk for help to quiet them down because they could care less. The rooms are clean when you arrive but they used the corona virus as an excuse to not give daily cleanings. We carried out our own garage every day and saw the waste baskets of other rooms in our hall outside their door waiting to be emptied. Spent a little more to get a place that cares about their visitors comfort. There are plenty of other places in town to stay so choose any place but here. read more

Yellowstone West Gate Hotel is fine. Just fine. The room was clean, and much nicer than the hallway leading to it led me to believe it would be. Check-in staff was friendly. There is an indoor pool for the kids to run wild and burn off steam. The WiFi is not built to handle more than a few people at one time, and we were unable to download email faster than 1 email/5 minutes at night. That speed picked up at 6am when everyone else was asleep. We could hear people moving around in the rooms above us quite clearly, and could hear people coming and going in the hallway quite clearly. I ran the fan all night just to provide cover noise. The free breakfast is what you'd expect - we chose not to eat it. All told, this was close to the most we've spent for a room on a per-hour basis: $259+ tax for one night, and we checked in late and left early. If you have to stay in West Yellowstone, this place will have you well situated to get in and out of Yellowstone quickly. But at a high price. read more

Fairly solid hotel. Check-in was painless, and the staff seemed nice from the limited exposure we had with them. Pet friendly, which was important to us. Clean room, and common areas. Wifi was painfully slow. If you have any business to do, avoid this hotel like the plague, or wait to use the internet at 3AM or something to that end. The walls are thin, we could hear other's conversations in the room above and beside ours, and for some reason there were some parents who allowed their children to run around the hallways for an hour, which was very annoying, especially considering they had a pool. We booked this hotel with our AAA rate, which ended up being $129.99 per night. Pretty affordable for a hotel so close to yellowstone park. The hotel is back a little ways from the beaten path, and the parking was awkward at best. West yellowstone in general seems to like forcing you to drive over the small curbs. All in all, it was A-OK, certainly not the best or worst I've stayed in. read more

The hotel itself looks just average and feels a little old however the room was actually quite spacious for a hotel room and was very nice. There was a microwave, refrigerator, and free breakfast as well. It's in a good location on the edge of town away from the busy and touristy part of town. read more

I stayed in July 2013. The hotel is clean, the room was clean. Plenty of towels. The complimentary breakfast was below average in my experience. I had a hard time finding something my daughter would eat. The eggs and sausage were disgusting. The employees were friendly. The thermostat in my room was not functioning correctly. It was either too cold, or unbearably hot. The room itself was nice. Smelled good. Sheets clean. Nice TV, with average channel selection (we weren't there to watch TV). Carpet in good shape, as well as the furniture. The hotel is located a few blocks from the main street of West Yellowstone. But for me, and the walk was nice. My biggest complaint was that the pool was ICE cold. I don't know if this was a temporary problem or not. Finally, the WiFi was ridiculous, and pretty much unusable. read more

We just recently stayed there for our Yellowstone National Park tour. The hotel was great!! A little pricy, but clean and comfortable room. The beds was a little firm but comfortable. Came here after a long day of traveling. I expected nothing too big, considering it is an independent hotel in a small town. Check in was fast however everything after that went downhill. Within being the hotel for less than 24 hours, I am without a doubt willing to say I will never stay here again. The people above us seemed to have paced in their room all night, stomping continuously. This lasted for around 2 1/2 hours. Even after multiple attempts to get them to stop, they didn't. Those staying in the room behind us had screaming children and a dog who continued barking. After deciding we would drop our next reserved night, we decided to at least try and get our breakfast. Disappointed yet again. Broken water machine, broken milk machine, broken ice machine, broken pancake machine, stale bread, and HORRIBLE coffee. What can I say. First trip to Yellowstone. Picked this hotel because lady that answered the phone was friendly and asked if we had been to Yellowstone before. She gave us good advise and tips. She really cared. I called two others and the people didn't seem to care. We got there and the two women were friendly and showed us a map of the town and offered advice. The breakfast was great Marylou who ran the breakfast made something new every day. Breakfast was hot and good choices. On our last day she was sad to see us go and even offered to make us some eggs. We will totally stay here again. Good location and quiet. read more

And the response was as follows "I can get you a different one but I can't promise it won't also be covered in hair. We don't wash them. Most amenities were ready to go and well cared for pool laundry etc. Our room had a extra pull out they had extra towels in room for kids didn't have to request more - so they do think about what they are doing! read more
