The sweet potato fries were amazing, perfectly my style that I enjoy. The Ribs I think would have been really good had they not charred them way too much, it was really unfortunate. I dunno what was going on here today, but there was definitely some friction between myself and the staff, as it seems everyone I interacted with, inside and out, was being rather abrupt or abrasive. I can hope that maybe it was one of those days. But the encounters just didn't leave a good impression. The outside deck was nice, though crowded, and I had my table moved around by the staff a few times to accomodate more customers, which meant playing musical chairs for us to stay out of the sun. The place is also very easy to walk up to. Since it's Truckee, just find parking where you can and just enjoy a stroll. As for the food, it was pretty good. One of my companion liked her turkey burger. The veggie kabob sides were decent, if rather unseasoned. And another friend and I split a BBQ sampler platter. The pulled pork was amazing, the tri tip was decent, if a little dry, and the chicken was definitely quite good and tasty. And the sides it came with, onion rings and slaw, were alright, too. My main complaint is the serving size, as for two people I felt it was kind of small for the price we paid, even considering this is Truckee and we pay higher prices here all around. But when your side of onion rings consists of exsctly FOUR small onion rings...... All told, it was an OK spot. What nitpicks I have aren't the most glaring, but my experience sort of makes me disinclined to swing by again when there are other options around. read more

The 1882 Deck is one of our favorite places to unwind in Truckee! We love stopping by for a drink while taking in the beautiful views of the Truckee River. It's so much fun watching the rafters launch or float, it makes for the perfect afternoon. The staff are always friendly, welcoming, and attentive, which is one of the reasons we keep coming back. On this visit, we ordered the Moscow Mules, and they were absolutely delicious and definitely packed a punch! They were worth every penny. The food is excellent too, making it a great place for lunch or simply drinks and appetizers. If you enjoy soaking up the sunshine, the outdoor deck is the perfect spot. Our favorite seats are at the corner of the outdoor bar, where you get a fantastic view of the river and can watch all the activity on the water while sipping your cocktails. read more

My family had a mini reunion in Truckee last week and our first meal together was at this restaurant. Although we arrived with no reservations (rookie move for a large group), we were fortunate to have been able to receive indoor seating right away. The service overall was really great and they checked up on us regularly and were on top of all of our orders. My only gripe is that this is a barbecue restaurant, and I felt that my barbecue platter had quite a bit of dry meat on it. The barbecue sauce did allow a reprieve from the dryness, but other than that everything else was great! Something that surprised me the most was how much I loved the vegetable skewer that was one of my side dishes! It had a delicious char from the barbecue, and all of the vegetables were in season and fresh. I would definitely be willing to give them another chance on my next trip to Truckee. read more

I thought all 3 were very good , with the brisket and ribs being my favorites. BBQ sauce was on point, a little bit of heat but not too hot- really good. The river view was the only good thing about our lunch. The BLT was the worst I've ever seen. Loaded with very burnt bacon, one piece of limp lettuce and one small slice of tomato on wonder bread. I started with the Chili Cup Fanatic and immediately wished I had ordered the bowl--it was that good. The flavor had real depth and tasted like it had been slow-developed, not rushed. Then I had the tri-tip sandwich, and it was excellent. The meat was clearly smoked on site, tender, and perfectly cooked. What I really appreciated was that it wasn't one of those sandwiches where you're wrestling the bread and meat with every bite. It held together, and each bite was balanced and satisfying. The thick onion rings on the side were a great touch--big, fresh, and full of flavor. Simple, but done right. Overall, really solid barbecue and great execution. My friend and I recently planned a lunch together during a very difficult time in our lives. I recently lost my mother, and my friend's father is currently battling cancer. We were looking forward to spending some time together and supporting one another. Unfortunately, our experience at this restaurant was extremely disappointing. When we arrived, there were approximately 10 available seats, and no one appeared to be waiting ahead of us. A server attempted to seat us, but the bartender loudly stopped her and repeatedly told us that there were four people ahead of us. The interaction felt unnecessarily hostile and embarrassing. Rather than being treated with courtesy and respect, we were met with rudeness and what felt like a deliberate effort to prevent us from dining there. The bartender's tone and behavior were unprofessional and unwelcoming. We left feeling humiliated and wondering why we were treated so differently. As longtime residents of Martis Camp, we have dined throughout the area for many years and have never experienced such poor customer service. A little kindness and compassion would have gone a long way, especially given the circumstances that brought us together that day. Sadly, because of this experience, we will not be returning and cannot recommend this restaurant to others. read more

Came here for a BBQ lunch, and will say up front that the ribs and the onion rings were excellent. Ribs had wonderful, smoky flavor, and were tender but still had texture. Onion rings were perfect, crispy and just a little oily. Ordered a coke as they weren't serving beer yet, and the coke was flat. The low rating is purely based on service. We also ordered chicken wings as an APPETIZER. I have a pet peeve that I expect my appetizers to be served before my main course, but the server brought out the ribs first. When asked about the wings, he said he'd have to check. When I pointed out that the wings were on the "appetizer menu," our server looked at me with a blank look, as if the concept was foreign to him. After checking, he came back and said the wings "would be out shortly," so we cancelled the wing order. Again, all I got was a blank stare. He didn't check on our table again, even to refill water on a blistering, hot day. I had to get up to ask for the check.
