We used to have lunch here in our ski days. Good fresh food, especially the veggies, a generous serving and reasonable price. We dropped in today after 10 years and who did we find? Our favorite waiter from the old buffet at Hunan Gardens at South Lake. We were happy to see our favorite guy is still making the same very respectable plates, with lots of veggies and yummy side salad. Only game in town catering to non asian taste. Nice size interior for indoor dining. Fish tanks with no fishey's in the tanks. They really didn't have a whole lot on the menu that interested me, I settled on curry chicken, big mistake for me. The curry was spicy enough for me after adding some white pepper, no decent asian restaurant is complete without it. However one of the biggest turnoffs to me is white meat chicken, that particular part of the chicken should only be relegated to the garbage container or for animal feed, You get the picture I abhor white meat chicken. A proper Asian restaurant would not serve this meat for its ingredients unless it were the whole chicken like salt baked chicken or soy sauce chicken or any other chicken cooked using the whole chicken. The next visit, I will order the curry beef instead either that or bring in dark meat chicken for them to use instead. The positive is the curry has a very good flavour and a definite go to. The restaurant staff/owners were wonderful and very inviting people. Awful. I re-try this place about every two years (since about 2010) and it never improves. Salt and pepper chicken wings? The recipe is supposed to be crispy and spicy. But here, they're soggy, drowning in a mostly tasteless sauce and have zero spice. I could go on but won't bother. Definitely a better idea to travel to Reno for decent Chinese. First off, we had very LOW expectations coming here after reading the Yelp reviews. (I also know many people only write reviews when they are dissatisfied.) That being said, we all wanted Chinese food that wasn't Panda Express, and this seemed like the best (and only) option during our Truckee vacation. When we arrived we were told by the lady in the front to sit at a table and that she'd be with us in 7 minutes because she had other orders ahead of ours. Ok...? We'll the menu is extensive and there is definitely something for everyone, which is nice. All of the traditional Chinese dishes are listed. When we placed our order, we wanted both a bowl of hot and sour soup and a bowl of egg drop soup to share amongst our family of 4. The waitress told us they could only make one type of soup and we had to pick one. Ok...? So we ordered the egg drop soup and an order of egg rolls. They came out fairly quickly and all were very delicious. The egg drop soup was a tad bland (I really wanted hot and sour soup) but I added some chili sauce that they brought out and it gave it a nice little kick. When the food arrived, we were VERY impressed. The pictures in the menu do NOT do it justice. The orange chicken was so flavorful and delicious, with tender chunks of chicken and not too much breading. We also ordered Broccoli Beef, Chicken with Vegetables, and Walnut Shrimp. (They were out of walnuts so the waitress asked if we wanted almonds or cashew instead.) Kinda random but it was fine. Our kids (15 & 13 yo) loved the food and my husband and I were pleasantly surprised (and relieved!) We left full and happy. I only give this restaurant 4 stars because the service was somewhat poor (blunt waitress, did not check on us, didn't accommodate our request for two soups) , and the ambience is old and very run down. However, if you're not a stickler for ambience or service, and just want a good meal, don't pass this spot up the next time you're in Truckee. We would definitely eat here again! read more

So happy to have some good authentic Chinese food in Truckee. I've been coming here since I was a kid and I always look forward to it whenever I come back to visit. The staff is friendly and provides excellent customer service in a timely manner. They are attentive and come by to check on beverages regularly which is always appreciated. While the ambiance may not be what it once was, I think the food and service outweigh it. Worth the visit time and time again. My regular order is the Hot and Sour soup, potstickers, and Szechuan Beef. read more

Two words " NEVER AGAIN!!" Was my first and last visit. I love love love twice cooked pork! This was the plainest I have ever had. I would have asked for them to remake it but the server never came back to check on us. The buster asked if I wanted a box but politely refused. He got our server (finally she came over) and I let her know I didn't like it and not sure what I want to do about it since my company was done eating. First thing out of her mouth, "you're not a nice person". So I asked her why she thought me rude and she couldn't keep on topic. Just kept insisting I was rude and then pointed at the "right to refuse service" sign. I definitely got loud at that point and showed her the difference between polite and not nice. Staying at near by hotel. I love Asian. I have it more than I care to admit. I tried the Chrispy chicken, extra spicy. It had kick but hot or "pretty spicy" is a major stretch, I'm okay with that. There's easily 4 tablespoons of minced garlic in this single serve dish. It visually overwhelmed things but over powering too. Now keep with me, I still liked it kinda. Chunks of chicken. Would have made all the difference. This was garlic with a side of chicken and maybe you'll get some tangerine flavoring out of your dreamsicle cocktail you're having Tonight I tried the potstickers. Perhaps one of my favorite Chinese eats. The weirdest potstickers I have ever had. The pics on their review do not show my experience or could they? I've never seen this before. They was equal parts of filling to outside wrap. This was more like a Chinese bun than a potsticker .. did they run out of supplies? I don't know but this was not a potsticker lol welcome to the Chinese bun-sticker. Odd. At least they were frozen premade just too off pudding for me. Don't dine in/ the family just yells volume 10 at each other over your entire experience. It had been a while since I ate here, and I decided to stop by again because I was really craving some Chinese food. Food (4/5): I ordered the vegetable chow mein, chicken and vegetables, and an order of potstickers. I really enjoyed the chow mein. It was flavorful, had a good vegetable to noodle ratio, and they use the thicker egg noodle which I prefer. The chicken and vegetable was good too. They used a little to much garlic, and the chicken itself was only ok quality, but the sauce was good. Overall, I enjoyed the food. If you're looking for really really authentic Chinese food, this probably isn't the place to go. But I really enjoyed it! Interior (2/5): I came when they had take out only because of shelter in place, so I couldn't actually sit down and eat. However, just looking inside, the interior looks kind of dreary. That being said, it seemed clean. Good service! The woman at the front seemed to have a lot to do, so it took me a little while to get my order, but she gave me some extra rice. Visiting North Tahoe during holiday and recommend this place if you want to try Asian food. We ordered Mongolian Beef and House Special Chow Fun (本楼炒河粉). The beef are cooked in a very tender way for both of the dishes with correct Cantonese seasoning to balance the flavor. The Mongolian Beef tastes similar like Beijing-styled stir-fried meat (炙子烤肉), which originates from North China by Mongolian Chinese and Manchus. The owner of the restaurant is so nice that she seemed to have a very good relationship with all her returning guests when they visited. The only pity is that we did not order their famous Beef Egg Foo Young (嫩牛芙蓉炸蛋) because one guy ordered tons of them during lunch and sold out. Alrighty, let's calibrate this review given they're located in Truckee (a small mountain town). Having a Chinese food option here is an absolute blessing. Irrespective of other choices they make really good food. I ordered a wide selection of Chinese American classics to feed 6 people and they nailed every single dish we ordered. Their sauces and consistency of cooking/finish was commendable. The topic of conversation for our hungry group was "this food is fantastic" and "I can't believe we have a solid Chinese option here". First time trying take out from Wong's and I would highly recommend it for tasty Chinese at reasonable prices (for Truckee). After 3 dinners in Olympic Village, it was time to feed my Chinese fix, and the only Chinese restaurants in the vicinity were Panda express and Wong's Garden, both in Truckee, 11 miles away.. I've gone to Wong's Garden decades ago, when I skied at Northstar, while staying in Truckee. My first wife, from Hong Kong, found the food acceptable. Spin forward 2 decades, with a new wife, and new hotel location, from the Truckee Hotel to the Olympic Village Inn. Talked to an old timer in the swimming pool, and he said he's taking his wife out to dinner to celebrate their anniversary. I ask where they are going, and he says Wong's Garden. Now this guy is white, and so can I trust his judgment? We drive 20 minutes from our hotel to the restaurant, on the southern edge of Truckee, right off of highway 89, in a shopping strip right off of highway 80. Perfect place for a stopover while driving on the freeway. Open the door, we are greeted by a Hispanic waitress -guess there aren't enough Asian waitresses in town, unlike in the Bay Area. We get a seat in a booth right next to the front door, receiving a wave from an old timer and his wife in an adjacent booth. I ask him his favorites, and he says moo shoo pork, walnut prawns, and pepper steak. Serving sizes are on the large side. We are seated and order the $11.50 beef broccoli, and the $11.50 moo shoo pork. Service is prompt, and our meal arrives 10 minutes later. Meals come with a huge serving of steamed white rice. The moo shoo pork comes with plum sauce and 5 pancake wraps. Lots of cabbage and pieces of pork, not too salty, and not too much soy sauce. I would have preferred more yellow onions and green onions. The beef broccoli comes with about 50-50 broccoli and beef in a tangy sauce. Brocolli is slightly undercooked -I like mine on the mushy side, while the wife likes them crunchy. Beef is on the tough side, and difficult to cut with a fork- a sign that it is not of the best quality. Booths across from me are filled with Hispanic customers, with the waitress taking orders in Spanish. No Asians here except for me, and very few white customers. One lady puts red hot sauce on her shrimp chow mein -hey this is not Mexican food! . Sign on the aquariums overlooking the booths say 'Please do not tap on the glass', while a kid speaking Spanish to his parents, taps on the glass. Some reviews have complained of phone orders getting messed up, due to employees not understanding English. In Chinese restaurants, in Truckee, you might be better understood in the language of south of the border! We waddle out of there, filled to the brim, and with a wallet $28 lighter, after tip and tax. read more
