The food was great. I liked the meat, the sides. They were out of coffee because it was too late on the day but offered americano instead. But service was slow. It took a while until e could put in our orders. The inside has character for sure, I just wish our window had a better view, like trees or something.

Food, service was great! The beef brisket and burger patty and salmon was cooked well and tasted great. It's simple, cozy and pretty clean inside.

Been here a lot. If you want BBQ this is the place. Always good food. Breakfast is delish. Chill environment. Sometimes this place can get really busy at lunch time. Be patient. There are only a couple of servers and they are always working their tails off. The chef and kitchen staff are also working their tails off. I've always been welcomed here as well. It's a bbq place- don't expect perfection like other reviews have described. Sitting outside is relaxing as well.

Weekday breakfast with fast friendly service. Enjoyed my Mexican Breakfast which had generous portions and nice ripe avocado. Cute Tahoe feel, very clean.

The chicken tortilla soup is to die for! Love this spot for bbq (any meat, but big love to the brisket), breakfast, and more. Great service and people who care about what they do. Love the old school truckee ambiance too!

"Large" fries, 15.75 - we ate a few by now but more or less this is it. =o]

Burgers were great, first and foremost. Big patty, grilled bun, etc., a la carte. Basic cheeseburger $16, small fry 6.75. The rest, not so great. Progressively priced 29 dollar sandwiches, large fries 15.75 (see photo), $40-50 meat plates. The smoked meat sampler tasted warmed-up. I don't blame them, if so, since no one was in there (on a Saturday), hard to justify smoking fresh meat every day. The sampler consisted of one "Beef rib" which was a big knuckle with almost no meat, two small slices of brisket, two pork rib bones. $18. In 2020, a sign was posted saying they raised prices 10% due to covid. Now that covid is in the past, prices are about 50% higher. Higher? My burger was $11 in 2022, yesterday $16. Meat sampler was $16 in 2023, now $18. I realize everything costs more now in CA, but it didn't have to be this way. If you voted progressive, thank yourselves for this austerity. I had a shake and cheeseburger in Austin recently - it was $8. Bill at Smokey's was about $190 with cash tip (as requested).

I can hope that maybe it was one of those days. But the encounters just didn't leave a good impression. The outside deck was nice, though crowded, and I had my table moved around by the staff a few times to accomodate more customers, which meant playing musical chairs for us to stay out of the sun. The place is also very easy to walk up to. Since it's Truckee, just find parking where you can and just enjoy a stroll. As for the food, it was pretty good. One of my companion liked her turkey burger. The veggie kabob sides were decent, if rather unseasoned. And another friend and I split a BBQ sampler platter. The pulled pork was amazing, the tri tip was decent, if a little dry, and the chicken was definitely quite good and tasty. And the sides it came with, onion rings and slaw, were alright, too. My main complaint is the serving size, as for two people I felt it was kind of small for the price we paid, even considering this is Truckee and we pay higher prices here all around. But when your side of onion rings consists of exsctly FOUR small onion rings...... All told, it was an OK spot. What nitpicks I have aren't the most glaring, but my experience sort of makes me disinclined to swing by again when there are other options around.

It's located at the peak of the mountain at Northstar California Resort, which is a nice setting and looked like a really nice spot for lunch during our ski day. When we arrived for lunch between 1:30 and 2:00 PM on a Saturday, we wanted to get in pine but the restaurant employee in the end of the line told us that those are the past people ordering and the kitchen will close now. According to their posted hours, they officially open until 3:00 PM, so I really did not expect the kitchen to be closed that early on a busy weekend afternoon at a ski resort. It was extremely frustrating and honestly disappointing -- especially after planning for it and being excited to try the food. We didn't even get the chance to order anything. Maybe the food is great, but if the kitchen closes this early on a Saturday, that should be communicated more clearly. As it was, it completely missed expectations.
