Love this as a restaurant in the harbor. First off, I love any building that is repurposed because it shows the local history and charm instead of tearing it down to make some minimalized architecture, so the power plant structure is unique. There are tons of seating inside and outside if the weather is favorable. The service was quick and attentive. No bread though. The lobster mac n cheese was decedent and loaded high with lobster meat. The steak was juicy and tender. The crab cake was nice, but nothing amazing. I did like their tray of desserts display because it did help tempt us knowing exactly what the options looked like. The cinnamon bread pudding was sweet without being too sweet and nicely cut into two pieces for sharing. Overall, I liked the location, the ambiance, and the food options. I'm assuming this place stays in business because of its location. We visited family in Maryland and decided to take a trip to the National Aquarium so we stopped at Phillips afterwards. After we were seated, we waited an additional 25 minutes for someone to come and take drink orders. We didn't actually get the drinks for another 15. When the food arrived I was disappointed again. The crab cake was very bland and the mustard sauce didn't help much. The fries were decent. The calamari lacked flavor as well. The plate I left behind didn't look too much different than what you see in the photo. I also couldn't finish the drink - couldn't believe how BAD it was. It had the taste of an attempt at fruity medicine. The bad service continued when my aunt - who had to send her food back as it wasn't prepared her instructions and she has allergies - didn't get served again until it was time for us to ask for the bill. We had friends visiting from Japan and brought them to Phillips after a day at the Baltimore National Aquarium. We had the pleasure of having Ellen (spelling?) as our waitress. She was absolutely amazing in every way. She went out of her to welcome our friends from Japan, talked to them about how special Phillips is and recommended just the right dishes to them to maximize their visit to Phillips and Maryland. They enjoyed the Crab soup, appetizers, platters and topped it off with some Smith Island cake which she rightly explained was the national dessert of Maryland. To make sure everyone could have a taste of the soup she brought tiny cups so even the kids could have taste. We used to really enjoy Phillips and now it is just ok. The food isn't bad but it really doesn't stand out either. I went with the Fried Seafood Trio. The standout for this was the crab cake. The shrimp were just ok and the fish was the same. The crab cake was far better. The fries were mushy and not well seasoned. I've wanted to eat a crab cake from Phillip's since I was a poor college student over 50 years ago. Tonight I did it. It's a well worn and well located tourist spot that can't be replicated. They take advantage of those attributes by offering good, not great, food at top shelf prices. The menu, as expected, is primarily seafood with a few apps, salads, and soups. The wine list is absolutely minimal with a couple of options in each mainstream variety. Our dinner tonight was a crab cake and a lobster roll, one with fries and one with coleslaw. The food was good. Service was professional but the wait for food was a little more than expected. The food was excellent -- fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. Everything we ordered exceeded expectations, and the staff was attentive without being overwhelming. Went to this Phillips location after the aquarium at the Inner Harbor. We had to wait 30 minutes and put ourselves on a waiting list. The host we interacted with was ambivalent, at best. Once seated, we ordered drinks and food and I ordered the fried catfish with fries and coleslaw. It was pretty good, but I don't think it was worth $28 dollars of a meal. Had dinner with a group of friends for his birthday, it was 7 of us total around 8pm on a Saturday night and we were able to be sat immediately. Our server was amazing! Super kind and patient with us. We got the Chesapeake crab dip for an appetizer, it came with some kind of seasoned bread which was delicious! Add some Tabasco for a nice kick! I was walking around the Inner Harbor when I stumbled upon Phillips Seafood. You can't miss the building as the signage letters are huge! There's an option to sit inside or outside, but I opted for indoor seating. My waitress was phenomenal. She was so pleasant throughout my dining experience. I was obviously craving seafood. My father was visiting from Arizona so we needed to take him to get seafood and at 8 o'clock on a Friday night after finishing up at the aquarium we needed up at Phillips. I've eaten here on the deck in the summer, but never inside. The inside is very old school classic restaurant feel. Lots of wood and black and white pictures. We ordered oysters, and the crab dip. The oysters were mostly okay. I wish they would've cut the abductor muscle instead of making my scrape my oyster out myself, and a few had broken shell in it. The crab dip we really liked, but if you're not a cheese fan I'd shy away. This is a very rich creamy and cheesy crab dip. My fiancé and father got the fried fish combo and enjoyed it, and I splurged on the captains catch. The lobster was perfectly cooked! Hard to find in baltimore. The snow crab was also cooked well! The mussels were okay, a little small. And the clams were good too! We were staying at a hotel a couple blocks from the inner harbor and my husband was nice enough to make a reservation at this restaurant for lunch. I am so glad he did because it was delicious. They have plenty of great sounding appetizers, salads and entrees. We decided to go with three seafood appetizers. We started with the boom boom shrimp. It was coated and fried and had a delicious but spicy sauce on it. Our next appetizer was the crab dip. It was hot and delicious and came with two small bread loaves for dipping. Our final appetizer was the tuna wontons. It was three fried square wontons with raw tuna, rice, ginger, spicy mayo and green onions. We loved all three of them. Service was fairly quick. read more

Perfect stop of after the aquarium as it is just steps away. However, the restaurant is massive and they clearly can't even staff it. I went on a Saturday night and we had a 20 minute wait. A wait is fine, but when we were walked to our seat, the restaurant was bare! Maybe 10 tables out of 50 taken. In this places hay day, every table would have been taken and it would have been an hour wait. This was shocking. When we got our food, I understood more. The crab dip had gobs of cheese not really melted in. The cheese pull was wild but it was like gobs of cheese and then separate gobs of mayo/old bay. My salad was massive and the salmon was great. So if I went back, I'd definitely get my salad again, but I feel like that shouldn't be the show stopper at a classic fish house like Phillips. The one that will make me never go back, my son's hot dog was salty as all get up! My son is a picky eater and this possibly turned him off hot dogs for the rest of forever. So while the food was sub par, I'm now mad that they messed up a hot dog. It could not be more simple. There are still classics there. Back in the early 2000s, Phillips was the place to be and I still love their freeze crab cakes at the grocery store. It is sad to say, there are better fish houses in Baltimore. read more

I thought this place was alright. I vaguely remember the food being super salty and that was a turn off for me. The drinks were extremely sweet and juicy. I felt kinda like a glorified red lobster but I think I prefer red lobster. Their was a lot of staff but it felt like it was really hard to get someone's attention if I needed it. When in Baltimore, you have to try the crab right? Pros We made an early reservation and were seated quickly (make a reservation for sure). Food was good, and pricing was clear. Other restaurants listed MP for crab cakes and crab legs, but at Phillips, all prices were listed on the menu. We ordered the broiled oysters, crab cakes, snow crab legs with a side of shrimp, and broiled barramundi. Prices of entrees ranged from $30-$60. The kid's menu was a great value at $7 for an entree, drink, and fries. It's a family-friendly restaurant for sure. Cons Service wasn't great. Our server forgot to put in my iced tea and the oysters. Maybe it was just busy, but she didn't come by to check on us during the meal. At the end of the meal, she came and brought us the check, without offering us dessert. She and another server were also complaining about their coworker near our table. I think if you're spending $200 on a meal, and tipping an additional $40, the service could be better. All in all, I would recommend Phillips, especially because of its location in the inner harbor. They also offer validated parking. Phillips Seafood is one of those iconic locations in the Baltimore Inner harbor area. While on vacation, we stopped by on a weekend afternoon and enjoyed a combination of appetizers for lunch - my favorite was the crab dip which should not be passed up. There are plenty of seating options in the bar and dining room areas - it looks like there's an active outdoor seating area as well, that we were there in cold weather season so we made sure to sit inside. Service from David S was wonderful, he had a great presence and made wonderful recommendations. Pricing all in average about $40 per person which is a reasonable value for the experience and quality of food. The location is quite active, so to expedite your visit, you may want to make a reservation as we did. The next time we're on vacation in Baltimore, I look forward to returning. read more

As a chain in a touristy area I wasn't really expecting much of this place but it really exceeded expectations! They have a choose your own type of dish with your choice of fish and compound butter with a side of mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies. I had the salmon with the jalapeno herb that really hit the spot - the salmon was cooked perfectly and was of good quality (none of that fishy smell/taste). The service was a bit slow but they were packed. I also thought they could've been more forthcoming with options on seating. They didn't mention the bar at all (which was coincidentally completely empty and also has bar top tables) and only wanted to mention that seating options were 45min to an hour long. The crab dip comes in a skillet with unlimited bread. The bread is nothing special, coated with (too much) garlic and butter. The crab in the dip isn't of great quality but who would've expected it to be, I suppose. They could do with some eco friendly changes - they put straws in your drinks without asking. Straws are a commonly non-recyclable plastic. Being on the water right next to the aquarium you'd think they'd have being 'green' more on their minds. read more

I visited Phillip's Seafood at Baltimore's Inner Harbor yesterday with my wife and daughter. Since Maryland is famous for its crab cakes and it had been a while, I was genuinely excited to finally enjoy one. I started with the Cream of Crab soup, and it was excellent--rich, flavorful, and easily the highlight of the meal. Unfortunately, the Boom Boom Shrimp was disappointing. The shrimp was battered, but the seasoning was bland and seemed to retain the oil it was fried in. It arrived drenched in oil and was served on a wilted bed of lettuce. The dipping sauce was overwhelmingly salty, making the dish difficult to enjoy. For my entrée, I ordered the Hoopers Island Crab Cake with fries. The crab cake was just okay. It wasn't bad, but it certainly didn't live up to my expectations for a restaurant known for seafood. The fries also tasted overly salty and did not seem fresh, with an exterior that felt artificial, almost as if they were not cut fresh and were outsourced. At around $30 for the entrée, I expected a higher-quality meal. The service was another letdown. I asked for the beer menu, but the wait was so long that I walked to the bar myself, ordered a beer, paid my tab, and returned to my table before I was ever able to place a beer order with my server. I don't blame the server--I believe the issue is with management. There were plenty of employees standing around, yet service throughout the restaurant seemed slow and uncoordinated. read more
