I was getting my car serviced at a dealership in Concord. The wait time was 3 hours. So I thought perfect time to get a haircut. I yelped a bunch of close by shops & no one seems so want to answer their phones. After about 5 calls & much frustration, 1920 Barbershop actually picked up. I asked if they take walk-ins & they said "definitely". I asked what the wait time was & they said "none, just come on by". So I Ubered over & in just that short 30 min ride, they now have a few ppl waiting for haircuts. Luckily for me... they were still able to squeeze me in right away. Rudy was very friendly & accommodating. He asked me how I liked my hair cut & I gave some fairly specific instructions. I was very happy when Rudy actually followed all of my quirky instructions & gave me one of the best haircuts I've ever had. I usually don't write bad reviews but I am disappointed in my haircut cut. I should've caught the red flag when he was cutting my hair facing away from the mirror for the whole time. As soon as he handed me the mirror to check out the finish work. I was extremely disappointed. I could've done this myself. When I ask him to fix it I'll pay extra if I have to he told me it's going to be a whole new haircut and he got another customer coming. I was charged $56 for some amateur work. I even tipped him $10 to show him it ain't about the money but the principle. Don't be too caught up taking peoples money when you should worry about cutting people right. Most barbershops are closed, especially because of COVID-19, but I see why Barbershop 1920 is open: they are strict with their guidelines and follow protocol during this pandemic. Off the bat, they take your temp and they have superb customer service. They might be my new go to place for my fresh cut! Ricky was my barber: he was nice, polite and even gave me new hairstyle suggestions to rock a good look. Haircut lasted 30-45 minutes and we chatted like long time friends! I get a hi bald fade and I also decided to purchase some of their product. I'm satisfied, and though they have been open a bit, they have gained a good reputation with this one visit I've had. I mean look at the AMAZING job they did for my son. MY 2 YEAR OLD SON. I usually don't post him online but I felt like his first haircut DESERVED a well earned review. First off it is on the second floor so I'm unsure if they have an elevator honestly though whatever it takes to get up there that's how impressed I am. My little one is super hyper and doesn't like others touching his head myself included. Ricardo his barber did such a great job keeping him calm. Ricardo was so calming - calmed mom too! Ricardo gave my son some candy and allowed my to stand by him. He work around my LO moving and even me getting in his way. He also explained that as a first hair cut a scissor cut would be best to not scare the little one. Which I hadn't even thought of! Ricardo did a phenomenal job on my 2 year old and even sold us on hard cream that can be used on the my little one because it's natural and better for little ones hair. We drove from San Leandro and although we didn't make the drive for this specific barber - We will definitely make the drive again to get our little ones hair cut. Also convinced the dad to switch over - betray his own barber... Than is how good they are. They have a old barber feel inside - Super Clean. Not sure if they cut women's hair but I definitely think I'll saty out of there only because it definitely feels like a man's sanctuary which I think is great because I feel like we don't have enough if those around. I've had two great cuts from Moody. I had been looking for a new place in the Walnut Creek/Concord area, and this place is amazing! All the guys are genuinely great at their jobs, and Moody/Maury helped me cut a new style I haven't tried before. They're efficient, and I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes after arriving for my appointment, but they take their time on the details for the cuts (I don't feel like they're rushing anyone to get to another client). [What I Experience] Poor organization and customer skills. Also there were customers w/o masks in a tight space with little ventilation. [How I experienced it] I had an appointment for my son to get a much needed haircut. I called before driving over to confirm the time and barber's name. They seemed confused and sloppy over the phone but ended confirming. I arrived sharp on time and after I mentioned the time and barber's name, I was told to sit and wait. Twenty minutes went by and I asked how much longer I needed to wait. The answer that I got was: "I will help you, "bro", I am backed up". I waited another 5 min passed by and I asked how much longer would it be. The answer I got: "15 minutes more, I told you that I will be taking care of you, I am backed up". At this point, I was way beyond my patience. These guys had two clear chances to let me know that they were backed up: over the phone when I called and when I arrived. Instead, they did not care and had me waiting there nearly 30 mins that could have been 45 mins, as if my time was worthless. I ended up leaving. [In End] I really wanted to find a good barber in the area and looking at other reviews, it seems that these guys have good skills. However, my experience was not positive at all. I recommend them to focus on developing a proper customer service approach (your clients' time is valuable) and get organized. If you are running late is fine, just make sure that you 1. My husband goes here and sees Ricky, and always comes back with a slick cut. My husband used to see Ricky when he was at the Parlor down the street, and came over here when Ricky opened up this shop. Matt appreciates that he can make his appts via text and Ricky is always quick to respond and makes sure to work with Matt's schedule. He says it has a cool, retro atmosphere, and the vintage chairs look awesome and are very comfortable. Ricky always does such a great job, and his hair always grows out well.
