    Mezclado Sandwich
    Erin S.

We had a party of 4 for breakfast at 9:30 am on Sunday, 9/1/24. In a strip with plenty of parking. We ordered at the counter and they brought out our food. There's limited seating inside and a 4 or 5 2-seater tables outside with one umbrella. I got the Mezclado Sandwich ($10.95) and we all split Magu's Yuca Fries ($7.95) and Maduros ($4.95). The sandwich and fries were good, but the green sauce really made it. We asked for extra because only the fries came with the sauce, but we recommend dipping the sandwiches in it too. The sweet plantains were delicious too, but only came with 4 pieces. Decent fast-casual food.

The restaurant is very clean and organized. The service was very friendly. I had a Medianoche sandwich and it was delicious!!!!

    Deluxe mezcal deal

On this rainy day my husband was carving some comfort breakfast food. The staff was awesome, helped us decide what entrees to get. I LOVE LOVE their cheese rolls absolutely delicious I have to try hard to share with the family. My husband ordered a deluxe mezcal sandwich, he said that he would give it a 4 out of 5. I ordered their version of steak and eggs, I felt the steak was a bit tough and the eggs were overcooked. It had great flavor though and the bread was good. The decor is cute and chic, they even set up these black and white umbrellas for their outdoor seating which made the yellow seating color pop.

Last minute plans... can't figure out what to have for dinner. What an amazing surprise?! 1928 is in our backyard now. We walked in an hour before closing. So hospitable. They made us fresh empanadas! So delish. We will definitely be back more than once!

Really good stuff. Cafe con leche yum. Cuban sandwich and yuca fries also delish. We stumbled in during lunchtime. They were busy. My cousin and I opted to share a sandwich and an order of yuca fries and sip on some cafe con leche as we waited. No complaints here. We were two happy guys.

    Guava pastelito and cortado

After moving back from Miami, I really missed my weekly (sometimes daily) cafecitos and pastelitos. Not having a cuban restaurant or cafe on every street corner was an adjustment I've gotten used to, but I still have cravings from time to time. When I stumbled upon this bistro and discovered it was a local chain, I was thrilled! I wanted to order some vegetarian empanadas, but since they make them fresh, it would have been a 7-minute wait. Though in hindsight, I was in no rush, I could've and should've waited because they sounded wonderful! Plus, who doesn't love fresh empanadas? I was still happy to grab a guava pastry, which is one of my favorite treats. It was exactly as I expected, delicious, sweet, and flaky. I ordered a cortado as well, and it hit the spot. The to-go coffee cups are strangely too big for cuban coffee, but other than that, my drink was good. I didn't dine in, but the staff is really nice and the restaurant is so cute inside! I could see they were going for that vintage art deco look, and they nailed it!

Came in for a quick coffee it was packed. Only ordered a colada, cortadito, and a flan total was $14. A little steep. Service was slow, and cold not very friendly. The patrons were more friendly. I'll give it another try on a weekday perhaps.

I had been wanting to try 1928 Cuban Bistro as I've seen many pictures and read a few reviews. I was on this side of the town getting my hair done and saw I was less than a mile from this location. The location had some inside seating as well as a patio. My server was so sweet. Since it was my first time, she suggested the Cuban. Wow, was this sandwich big I had it for two meals! And loaded with meat! It was an excellent sandwich. I paired it with a Cuban pineapple soda which was refreshing. It had just the right amount of pineapple flavor and wasn't overly sweet. They sold tres leches in to go containers so you know I had to take one home. It was also delish! The server told me there was a new location at Jacksonville Beach, and I'm looking forward to trying some other menu items soon!

1928 Cuban Bistro is my special treat breakfast spot. Cafe con lethe is ALWAYS hot and creamy and wonderful for shipping. I alternate between the Mezclado (without ham) - a scrambled egg and cheese sandwich with buttery, toasted cuban bread, or just the Cuban Tostado (cuban bread and butter). It's the closest thing to the cafes in Miami and it brings back so many incredible memories. Service is always flawless, and I love the bright and cheery vibe of the store.

This is one of those places that we love but haven't been to in far too long. We both tried things that were new to each of us tonight as well, which was cool. I ordered The Ole Smokie, with everything on it and choose cheddar cheese. My first thought when it was brought to the table was "oh, I'll probably have to go at this with a fork & knife" but I decided to give it a shot as intended. I'm glad I did because the bread held up surprisingly well! As far as ingredients go, the brisket was good and smokey. There was a good mix of everything else and more than enough cheddar. My wife ordered the Chicken Cheesesteak. She also had a choice of cheese and she picked whizz. The thing that separates this from what people might expect is that it's chunks of chicken, not shredded chicken. She said that's not a bad thing at all, just a change from what some might exoect. She thought it was a welcome change. She liked their cheese whizz a lot and liked the roll as always, so she was glad she tried it. It's worth noting that both sandwiches were big enough that we both took half of each home. I didn't get the name of the two people that were working there this evening, but I'd still like to give then a shout out. They were both incredibly patient with the customers ahead of us and they didn't make us feel rushed even though we were there fairly close to the time they close on Friday evenings. Another good visit to Clarke Bros. Here's hoping it doesn't take us so long to get back here again for the next visit!

Ordered at the front counter and was greeted by a friendly young lady... good start. I went in planning to get the muffaleta off the specials board. They checked on it, but no luck... they were out of the cuts needed. I was pointed toward the Italian, but my buddy already grabbed that and I felt like being different. Noticed another special on the wall, a smoked brisket sandwich. Can't remember the exact name, but that's what I went with. Instead of chips or their homemade tots, I grabbed the balsamic roasted brussel sprouts as an appetizer. Tables weren't the cleanest and were a little wobbly, but nothing deal-breaking... we made it work. Food came out pretty quick and looked solid. Flavor-wise... a little mixed. The brussel sprouts were very flaky and leafy, almost crumbled apart. You really had to work your fork to get a bite. I was picturing larger roasted halves. Sauce was fine, nothing bad, nothing special. I'd give those a 3 out of 5. The brisket sandwich was interesting. The meat was very fatty and kind of tough to chew through. Not sure if that's just the cut or the prep. I ate about three-quarters of it. It wasn't bad, just didn't hit the way I hoped. Probably still thinking about that muffaleta. Another 3 out of 5. I'd come back, no doubt... but next time I'm sticking with what they're known for. Those cheesesteaks always look great, and that's probably the move. Today was about trying something different, and I'm glad I did... even if it didn't knock my socks off.

Let me tell you this small deli/restaurant is so worth your visit. It is conveniently located on US one south State Road 312. In a small strip shopping center. Turn when you see the McDonald's it's in the shopping center behind it. My dining companion and I split the The Boss sub for $11.99. Filled with generous amounts of Mortadella, Sopressata, Prosciutto and Provolone and topped with tomato and shredded lettuce, this sandwich is a total winner! It is enough for two people and probably could be shared between three or four people with some chips on the side. We had no trouble finding a table at 3:20 PM on a Saturday however, by the time we left, there was a line out the door! We chose to sample the dessert in order to cannoli for $2.99 and a huge piece of tiramisu for $4.99. This meal may be one of the best values in all of St. Augustine. According to the menu, the restaurant/deli opened in 1989. I'm embarrassed we did not know about it sooner. The desserts were wonderful and probably one of the best cannolis I've had in years crispy shell and delicious filling. There are so many more options to try on the menu and a wonderful range of pasta, sauces, and toppings to take home. There are a wonderful Italian cookies and frozen ravioli and stuffed shells too many to make a full mention here. We definitely will return and I certainly encourage anyone reading this to try it for themselves!

And it was supposed have oil and vinegar and it didn't seem like it did. Now this is why they don't get a good rating. I ordered a soda she asked me for a bottle or fountain I said fountain. She brought my drink and than never followed up for a refill. So I get up go to counter and ask for one the guy tells me "they are a $1 and than I'll have no problem getting it for you." So I say I was choking on their dry sandwich. I go to hand him a $1 and he says I have to pay the cashier and made me wait for her to take my $1. As I left I checked for any refill signs - NOPE!

Everything on the menu is delicious, the staff is wonderful, and they stand up to bigotry in their own backyard. You can't get much better than that. The only drawback (if you can even consider it one) is just figuring out a good time to arrive to avoid a line. Regardless, even if there is one, the staff moves through it quickly and efficiently. As Sub Cultured is a walk-up window, there's some outside tables to sit, as well as the option of sitting in your car for that car-hop action. Otherwise, you're so close to the beach and parks that taking your sandwiches for a picnic isn't a bad idea either. If you can't find parking immediately at Sub Cultured, there's a little shopping center just next door since there doesn't seem to be much for street parking outside of their handful of spots. All of that said, I'm a transplant to Jacksonville via the Navy since 2004. One of the biggest cravings that I have from back home is a real authentic sausage, pepper, and onion grinder. I can't even begin to describe to y'all how great Sub Cultured's is with that spicy Italian sausage and perfectly cooked peppers and onions. Add a little spicy brown mustard and you're all set.
