Great to be back at the Cuban Place! We are in the area and decided to eat here since it's been a while since we visited. We ordered beef empanadas for starters. The dough was crispy and the ground beef filling was tasty! For the main entrees, I got my favorite Ropa Vieja. Delicious shredded beef cooked with spices and tomato sauce, so good! I placed an order to go so that I could take dinner to a friend who is at Brooks rehab. We both ordered a steak dinner, which I will say was much higher priced than what I anticipated. The rice and beans were average, having wished that the black beans had more of a rich flavor than what it actually did. The steak itself was extremely tough like shoe leather, but had good flavor. The size of the side salad was actually a joke. It was so small so minuscule that I was quite surprised at what little there was. Given the price I really had much higher expectations than what was delivered. Nice dining room, so eat in or pick-up are both good options. But the food, some really good options: Material Soda - think Yerba Matte carnonated, really good. Empanadas - really tasty, the boating and the filling Plantains - Maduroes are served with most entrees, they only give you two, but they are delicious.. Steak Sandwich - my son loved this, I was not as thrilled. It is a beautiful presentation. We shared the 3 Egg Cuban breakfast, but 2 of us couldn't finish it! Coffee is FRESH BREWED, comes with foamed milk( no cream, no refill). Coffee to go was enough to top up ours plus take some away. Not a fan, I've had better Cubans at a Tampa gas station. I was holding out for the food to redeem this whole experience, but no salvation! The service feels forced, with little warmth. The staff seams oddly under trained and annoyed. To boot 6 Cubans sat next to me, each apparently caring on their own loud conversation, as the each spoke louder and louder to drown the others out. I did not feel welcome here. The women were cordial but the guy wasn't. They all just stared at me so long that it made me uncomfortable. I wished I would've left before placing my order. I don't want to seem rude. Go figure! There were about 5 people dining in when I arrived. We went to the new restaurant in Orange Park. We were looking forward to a good experience & good food. We were sadly disappointed! Service was slow & inattentive. Food was terrible. I had the Cuban sandwich - 1 slice of ham (cold cuts) on each side, & much more pork fat than pork. My husband had a combination- 2 tamales, fried pork, & ?beef?. The tamales were just ok, the meat overcooked, with more pork fat than pork, & the "beef" dry & tasteless! The server came to our table only once to check on us, & I told that the sandwich was definitely not good & showed her the gummy mound of fat I had scraped off. There was no "sorry", no offer of something else, not even an offer of a free cookie! Just a smile before she walked away! This was definitely not a way of making a good first impression! We had an appointment nearby shortly after leaving the restaurant. When we told them about our experience, they laughed. I finished my first dance lesson last week and was hungry. I went on Yelp and found the Cuban Place was in the same shopping center. I sat outside and ordered a salad and a Cuban brisket sandwich. The house salad was more than I expected and I loved how the tomatoes circled the outside of the plate. The brisket sandwich was delicious and I even liked the little tiny fries. This place was so good! Place was well maintained and the waiter was attentive. Restaurant did not have many people and I am surprised because it was really good. We got the empanadas and the meat inside was really tasty. My wife got the Cuban sandwich and it was also good. OMG, I was referred to this spot by someone who's well informed of the small business around the Mandarin area. The Cuban Place was a little taste of being in Cuba for dinner. They had Cuban music playing on the tv and on the speakers of the restaurant to give you that Cuban vibe. The exquisite taste of each item I ordered was amazing. First we started off with a chicken and beef empanadas, also in the photo you can see pork bites. Sprinkle a little lemon on the pork bites to make it pop. The empanadas are made to melt in your mouth with every bite. The chicken and the beef have all these seasonings in them that an avid food taster can name a few while tasting. You receive a nice size plate of the pork bites that you will have some leftovers for the next day. Moving on to my entree of the Cuban Sandwich and my girlfriend had Pork Sandwich. My pictures of each sandwich, I tried catching every little piece of what each sandwich looks like inside. Both sandwiches the Cuban bread was flattened and grilled to perfection. You the bread is made well when you look on the top of the bread and it isn't burnt but still have the grill lines on the top of the bread. The cheese was melted perfect over lapping each style of meat that the Cuban brings. When you take that first bite and hear the crunch of the bread and then followed by the warm tasting meat with the cheese and pickle with a tad bit of the mustard sauce they place inside the sandwich, all you can do is close your eyes and let the sandwich take you to Food Heaven. The Pork Sandwich isn't far behind with the yummy and tenderness of the meat with every bite. Next, the Tres Leches cake as a dessert was the perfect ending to an already fantastic evening. The moist of the cake topped with the light milk sauce under the cake and on the plate. Never the less it will give you a Foodgasm that you won't regret. Take it from me I'm Fluffy! Lastly, the man who attended us was marvelous. I told him it was our first time there and he attended us like if we were family. Letting us know the specials and also what's already made. He kept coming back around and asking us if we were good and how was the food so far which to me is a great sign of fantastic service. It's safe to say I will be heading back to this place and most likely trying everything else on the menu! read more

It was decent. Probably closer to 3.5 stars. A little on the expensive side for what you get. My lechon meal came with rice and tostones and I asked to substitute black beans for the tostones. When I got home, I had both so it appeared based on what I paid that they just charged me for a side of beans in addition to the meal and dessert. Maybe it was a communication breakdown, but nonetheless it was pricey. Meal was good and the tres lechés was enjoyable as well. Then I recently came back because I remember they serve Cuban Sandwiches. First of, I'm always on the hunt for THE BEST OF...like Philly Sandwiches, Shrimp & Grits, Coffees, Cuban Sandwiches...just to name a few. The Cuban Sandwich here is definitely off the Cuban Chain...the best I have ever ever had. And I have a Top 5 places for best Cuban Sandwiches too, but it doesn't matter now. Every time my husband and I come to this restaurant we have the best lunch ever. The meal is fresh, well seasoned, and hot. The service is great. The server always remembers us from last time. He is very cordial and friendly. The place is clean and well kept. We are Cubans and we know what Cuban food should taste like. This is a Cuban restaurant!
