I've been visiting around to the different 1928 Cuban Bistro's and sampling through the menu. Today's stop was the Baymeadows location for a ham and cheese tostada. Food-10/10. For the ham and cheese tostada I could stop in every day. That bread is so heavenly. Crisp on the outside and soft a d fluffy inside. It soaks up the flavors from the ham and gives it the most delightful taste. Normally I like some kind of condiment on a sandwich but the way the ham flavors the bread leaves that tostada needing nothing at all. It is perfection. I paired it with a cafe bombon for a little treat. If you have t tried their cafe bombon you must. A shot of espresso over condensed milk is just what the coffee addict ordered. Service-10/10. It's counter service here but they don't just serve you and forget you. After bringing my coffee she noticed I didn't have napkins so went and got them for me. She brought my food later and brought me more napkins and checked to see if I needed anything else. They were so hospitable from the moment I entered until the moment I left. Atmosphere-10/10. I love the decor here. It's gives an open and welcoming vibe and is so bright and airy feeling. It invites you to sit down and enjoy your meal without rush and to sit and chat a bit while having a cafe and snacking a bit. read more

Fast service. Cute little shop with Cuban decor. They had an old school Coca-cola refrigerator with Mexican drinks. The yerba mate wasn't very good, too sweet. The beef empanadas were delicious! I was here several times and never disappointed until today I ordered the 1928 empanadas for an office party and was told there were none. I did ordered chicken and beef as well. How disappointing. I was offered a coffee while I waited. At least I was told about the snafu and they offered me shredded beef instead. I was sad and had my mouth all toned up for my 1928 Empanadas. Cuban pastries and empanadas may very well be one of my top favorite foods. And the ones here are no exception. The guava cheese pastry was so flaky with a good amount of cheese inside. I do wish there was some more guava though. The pork and 1928 empanadas were also so hot and buttery. And I love how thin the crust was, if just came apart in my mouth. And the green sauce is so addicting. The cafecito is pretty sweet, and it's the perfect little shot of caffeine. And the Cuban sandwich was delicious too, packed full with all the toppings. read more

Walked by this place after my doctor's appointment and saw some empanadas so I had to stop in! My husband loves empanadas and I was excited to see alot in the display case! They had so many varieties from beef to chicken to even a cuban sandwich filled one! I was greeted with a warm smile as soon as I walked in and the lady up front was so sweet and answered all my questions. The place was so clean and the decor was lovely. I picked 6 to try with flavors like ham and cheese, cuban sandwich, pork, beef, chicken, beef and yuca, beef and plantain, etc. She also gave me some dipping sauces and I was on my merry way home. The empanadas were AMAZING! I put them in the air fryer to reheat them and they were flaky, crispy, and filled to the rim! I tried the beef and yuca one and it was heavenly! The filling was flavorful and the combination of the beef and yuca was quite delightful. All of the dipping sauces went so well with the empanadas too. There was a garlicky one, a spicy one, and a mild tasting one. Not sure what was in the dipping sauces but they were delicious! My husband literally ate 4 in one setting! I would definitely try this place out and the prices were reasonable for the size of the empanadas. Planning to come back for more and to try out their desserts and coffee as well! read more

This spot is super awesome and super authentic. I had a delightful empanada to start and my all-time favorite, a croqueta preparada (which is basically a pressed sandwich with ham, swiss, a smashed croqueta with pickles and mustard). Totally hit the spot. Great service from the waitress there as I sat at their counter. They were pretty busy which was great to see! Shop is super cozy; not too big so don't expect to come here with a super big group. read more

I love 1928! Today I tried the elena Ruth which was delicious. I also tried the new guava matcha latte and I would recommend making this drinking more traditionally. The matcha is almost just a foamy topping to the oat milk and really has no flavor. I'd recommend making the matcha more traditionally. The matcha flavor with the guava would be amazing, but as it is now it just tastes like guava oat milk. As always the service was great tho! read more

I visited 1928 today 07/01/2025, and ordered a sandwich with scrambled eggs and Swiss cheese. Unfortunately, the quality was very disappointing. The eggs used were clearly not fresh -- they were liquid eggs from a box, which the cook later confirmed when I asked. Instead of soft scrambled eggs, what I got resembled a dense, tasteless omelet-like paste. It's frustrating to pay for what should be a fresh breakfast sandwich only to be served something so processed and unappetizing. I won't be returning, and I think other customers deserve to know what kind of ingredients are actually being used behind the scenes. Quality and transparency matter -- sadly, neither were present during my visit. read more

The detail that goes into this restaurant before even biting into your meal - Wow! The design of this Cuban restaurant is so pretty. Look at all of that vibrant color and print! I love that this restaurant is so welcoming. I would hands down come here any day with my laptop, grab a fresh baked bakery item and a coffee, and post up at one of their tables inside to work. I love all of the natural light from the big, open windows. You are immediately welcomed with warm, friendly smiles upon entering. I'm a little embarrassed that before last week, I had never been to any of the locations before. Of course not by choice; I have always wanted to visit. I'm so happy I finally had the opportunity & time to stop in, and try a few things! Oh my gosh the baked goods, I made a mess pulling these apart to truly see each and every scrumptious layer. I usually get the chicken empanada and sopita. The soup is great if you want something mild or maybe you're coming down with something and want some homemade soup. The sopita has chunks of veggies and chicken, which can be annoying because they're too big to eat and you have to break it up a bit before eating. I am obsessed with this place!! The coffee, the pastries, the ambiance, chef's kiss! We went for breakfast recently and of course both started with a cortadito (our favorite). This coffee will truly keep you wired for the day. We shared a guava pastry (our other favorite) and I loved dipping mine in my coffee. So good. We added a cheese pastry, coconut, and coconut and cheese all to take in a box to go. The huge puff pastries are so reasonably priced. This was the first time ordering breakfast at 1928, and now we are hooked! I had the mezclado sandwich with no ham (scrambled eggs and cheese on Cuban bread). The portion was HUGE. I only ate half and was stuffed. It was delicious! My fiance got the la gordita open faced toast (croquetas, avocado, bacon, mozzarella, fried eggs, and chimichurri on Cuban bread). Another huge dish that we will probably share next time. Loved it! We had a cute little breakfast date here on a Saturday morning, and the restaurant was consistently busy. Ther lot to love is this small Cuban counter serve restaurant. Cuban food you expect, a few dishes that might surprise you, and some delicious sweet dishes that will knock you off your feet. Parking is plentiful. Service is efficient and friendly. Maduroes - just as expected, very tasty. Yuca Fries - okay, but Maduroes are a much better choice. Cuban sandwich - not my style, missing the traditional sweet taste that I am used to do. The Medianoche - the owner suggested I tried this version and immediately recognized the sweetness I missed in the Cuban. Really good choice. Cuban Sloppy Joe - really great flavor, love this dish. Maybe a little more bread than I like but the taste is on point with Maduroes and Yuca mixed in. El Ruthie - AMAZING, this is my favorite sandwich they do. Make sure you order yours "fancy" and you will thank me later Tres Leches - wow, delicious Flan - another solid choice Guava Cake - I had not had this before, so it was good Key Lime - not Cuban, but looks delicious, maybe next trip. If you have gluten or dairy issues, go for one of the plates and ask that they cook them without butter. I don't think there is any dessert that fits but ask them, maybe after reading this they may come up with one. read more

1928 Cuban Bistro is a small but apparently popular place to grab a meal. As the name would imply, the focus of the menu is Cuban inspired and they do a relatively good job in their culinary creations. Though they call themselves a bistro, I found it more to be a lunch counter type place. You go in, stand in line to place your order at the counter and find a seat. They call your name when your food is ready and you go up to the counter and grab it. Be advised that at least for my experience, the food was a bit slow coming out. The Cuban sandwich was pretty good, though it could have been on the sandwich press longer. The cheese wasn't even melted. They also used dijon mustard instead of the more traditional yellow mustard. I did not notice, but my business client noticed. He is a huge Cuban food fan. The papa rellena was good, but a bit smaller than what I have had in Muami. Overall, it was a good lunch. I was really excited to try out this place for a Cuban breakfast, but overall, it was just okay, left a bit to be desired. The food was on the dry side, especially the eggs and the bread, which really needed a bit more moisture or seasoning to stand out. The portion size was decent, and the presentation was nice, but I found myself wishing for a bit more flavor. Service was friendly and prompt, but unfortunately, the meal didn't quite hit the mark for me. Maybe I caught them on an off day, but I was expecting a bit more from a Cuban breakfast. Lastly, there was a Yelp check in promo where you get a free pastry with $15 spent. The lady told me they couldn't honor because I have to spend $15 or more. lol. Ok. Very pleased with 1928. I'm from Tampa, home of the proper Cuban sandwich (boo to all the "Miami version is better" folks). I've enjoyed quite a few different sandwiches and hot plates from 1928. Their desserts are absolutely fantastic. Their key lime pie is out of the world delicious and their guava cake is heaven. This place lived up to my expectations. I was caught by the Cuban sandwich and guava sweets but what I didn't know was that this would be a total experience. I knew that I wanted the La Aly Babalub and doing what Cubans do, a cafe expresso. My order was made to order so looked at the candy and danishes at the register . I had a seat in the waiting area which was clean. I looked more at the Yelp photos as I was headed for the bathroom. I decided to try an empanada and it was delicious. I thought I ordered a Cuban, before they added pork. I thought it was on the sweet roll but I. I longer see it on the menu. Hoping to check out the Roosevelt location soon. Went for a quick "Merienda" (Quick afternoon snack in Spanish) at Good Ol' 1928 Cuban Bistro by the one at Baymeadows Road. I ordred a Cafe con Leche, steamed milk with a shot of Espresso for $3.75 and it was really creamy and delicious just as they always do here. Got there pretty late as they were about to close at 6PM and one of the remaining items was the Tequeños, 3 pieces of fried dough with Queso Blanco (White Cheese) stuffed in the middle. Barely tasted any cheese and was a bit salty I thought but ate up all the pieces. We have been here a few times and the best time to go is from breakfast to lunch and everybody should try their Sandwiches-especially The Cuban and is easily one of the best sandwiches at the 904. I love Cuban food as it reminds me of "home". When we spotted them, we just had to stop in. 1928 Cuban Bistro was a wonderful lunch spot! Hubby ordered the Pan con Bistec (steak sandwich) and I ordered the Cuban sandwich. Both were very good. The palomilla steak on hubby's sandwich was tender and seasoned with traditional Cuban flavors. The use of plantain sticks was great for an added crunch. I really liked the amount of roast pork on the Cuban sandwich. A lot of places will skimp on the roast pork but 1928 Cuban Bistro did not! I would have liked the Swiss cheese more melted and the sandwich hotter. The Cuban bread used for both sandwich was super delicious - buttery and well-pressed. I expected it to be good based on the reviews, but it far exceeded my expectations. Everything was excellent. The Cheese pastry was delightful with my Cafe con Leche. Mami came from the kitchen and brought everyone samples of her chicken soup. She was adorble and we could feel this was a family owned business. I ordered an assortment of goodies to share with others and to try for myself. The beef empanada was amazingly flavorful and has me already wanting to return.. It's a 30 minute drive for me but when I need my Cuban fix this is my go to! The food is delicious and the cafe con leche always hits the spot. There is indoor and outdoor seating and the service is good. The food is definitely the main event, except when I need my coffee fix, yes Cuban coffee is good, but the pastry chef is awesome. I have never heard of this place, but was able to try this place out today thanks to my manager Carla for putting an Elite event together. I can't believe I have never been hear before or heard of it, and I am so happy that I got to try this place out today. It is such a lovely and adorable little cafe. I love how the interior design is contemporary and clean. There is a cute little corner where you can sit and take photos. I'm not really sure what it says but it looks interesting above the little chair. The staffs are so sweet and kind. They got my order right away and my food was brought out to me in a timely manner. I got a cafe con leche, a cheese pastry, and a pan con lechon sandwich to go. The coffee was smooth, and delicious! I love how it isnt too bitter and too sweet. It was just perfect for me. The cheese pastry was yummy. I love how it was crunchy and sweet on the outside, and the inside had so much cheese filling! I'm glad it's not more bread than cheese, because some places, their pastries have more bread than filling, but this place gave you a good amount of filling for the pastry. Very nice! As for the sandwich, it was delicious!! I didn't get to take a photo of it because I didn't have time to since my parents were coming to visit. I shared it with my mom and dad and they both enjoyed it. Overall, I truly enjoyed this little cafe and will be coming back again to try more of their food. 10/10 highly recommend. read more
