After years of great service they've changed dramatically at least the customer service has. Their new appointment confirmation process is deeply flawed and they know it, but when I protested being wrongly called out on not having followed their new procedures. (I had confirmed my appointment and not received any kind of acknowledgment, and I was on time) all I got was a lecture about not doing things correctly. I felt this was outrageous, especially after never missing an appointment in 20+ years. I also hate to think about how many thousands of dollars I spent on crowns etc. read more

If I could rate them negative 5, I would. I have been a patient of this dental practice for more than 20 years. They used to be friendly, efficient, had long term dentists and hygienists and they would get you in for emergency appointments quickly. Not so anymore. Receptionists take a long time to answer. This year I broke a tooth in late January and it hurt. I called and was told it would be three months before I could be seen for an emergency. They cannot/will not check their other offices and when they say they will call you back, they do not. I ended up at Aspen Dental, who got me in the same day and scheduled a crown the following day. I had a regular six month cleaning appointment scheduled for early September, got the text reminders and everything. The day before the appointment they called and left a message that my hygienist had "quit suddenly" and I couldn't be seen FOR SIX MONTHS. Now my hygienist actually left three months before this - I knew because my husband had been for his cleaning and got a replacement hygienist. So I insisted on keeping my appointment. The hygienist they gave me was late and then took more than 2 hours to clean my teeth, being more concerned with my blood pressure than my teeth. And there was no dentist to check my teeth. Yesterday, October 19, I broke another tooth - half my tooth fell out. Called as soon as the office opened today and was told that the first available appointment is November 24, 2023. Aspen Dental again got me in the same day. Meanwhile, my husband had three separate appointments to get his final crown fitted and they made it with the wrong sized screw twice. These people are playing games with the health and well-being of their patients. They seem incompetent, rude, and uncaring. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. read more

Horrible customer service and compassion. They cannot keep any dentist and they are all rough. My hygienist of many years and was wonderful has left. I went for a cleaning today and asked that he not use a certain tool on me as my teeth hurt for a couple days afterwards. My previous hygienist did not need to use that tool. I also said I didn't want x-rays taken today. Just a cleaning. Hi s response was to reschedule me with another hygienist and I was telling him how to do his job. What about listening to the patient and respecting their wishes? I will NEVER return there!!!!!! read more

My first impression of this place was less than impressive, however I will give them the benefit of the doubt. I went in after being screened for any COVID symptoms and then taken in to see the dentist. She seemed professional enough, however it became apparent that they were not 100 % ready for patients as things had to be located in another room. I was not very comfortable during the exam since I gag very easily and was tilted back a bit too far and had explained this to the doctor. I also didn't like that they didn't have a cuspidor (sp?) to rinse out my mouth and instead was given a cup to rinse and spit back into ugh. I was warned that this place is a business that will try and sell me something that I might not need, which fortunately did not happen on this visit. Warning, STAY AWAY!!!!!!! Their "billing department" that is just the people that answer the phones, are a joke!!!! I called the billing number and followed the menu to a FULL voice mail. Then I had to call 4x to their main service number, because NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING, to TRY to"settle" a bill that was their mistake and they WON'T fix it or take the blame! So, now I am STUCK with an OUTRAGEOUS bill! This whole practice is a bunch of THIEVES! Trying to get my records transferred, took WEEKS of several phone calls (with messages left), emails and mailed letters. I was told it was taken care of. When I called my new dentist, I was told the records and x-rays still weren't transferred. Plus, they need to know "WHY" you are leaving the practice. Huh, I wonder why... Never had such issues with a dentist. Don't even give them a second thought, unless you like paying bills that they make up. This is an ongoing issue that I find every time I go there. Dr. Koa performed a root canal on a molar - 2 hour procedure - ugh. I'll admit it, I'm a wimp and could have used a little more hand holding and TLC - it's hard for us 50+ to be in the chair in that lowered position for 2 hours, but I understand it as necessary and you definitely don't want a 2 hour procedure to be a 4 hour procedure. Dr. Koa was extremely professional and I'm happy I had the procedure done. I was also impressed with the front desk ability to work with my insurance (MetLife) and they calculated the correct amount for me to pay at each visit. Thank you! read more

I was scheduled for my 6 month cleaning, at that appt the hygienist took x-rays and measurements about 30 minutes, after all that I was informed I had to get a deep root cleaning. The hygienist also said she wouldn't clean my teeth today. looking into the procedure and educating myself, also talking to a few people who had it done and those who choose not to, I decided to get a second opinion; 1st advantage hygienist told me I could no longer come in for cleanings if I didn't get the deep root cleaning. I have been going to that place for a couple of years (had to change because my original dentist dropped my insurance) and this was the first time one of their hygienists told me I had to get that procedure done. I wasn't having any pain in my mouth, I didn't have, nor have I had any infections in my mouth, I wasn't experiencing any bad breath, I do have some bleeding while flossing but I explained to her I been dealing with that since I was a kid. I called my health insurance and explained this to them, and they told me I had a right to a second opinion and also to refuse that procedure. I had their office forward x-rays to another dental office; I had a consultation with a new Dentist where they did a thorough exam and proceeded with a cleaning, they also said I wasn't in need of that procedure at this time. I have to say I am disappointed that I can no longer use their services for cleanings and that my opinion or any options weren't discussed before the hygienist made her decision. read more

Been going here since I was a wee toddler, crying tears of sorrow and enjoying the bubblegum flavored dental floss that they gave out. They actually haven't changed the one picture of the dog with 3 tennis balls in his mouth for a while. My hygenist has always been Janine, absolutely wonderful lady. She's garnered a few gray hairs over the years but its one of those things where your relationship is defined by something so tried and true that its interesting over the years how my perspective has changed literally since I've gotten taller. Dr. Bradley kicks ass. She's an awesome dentist, always does a great job, never had a faulty fill or slight cosmetic fix. No nonsense, very quick and efficient. The one time I didn't have her check up on me because she was working on someone else I almost peed my pants because this woman was a horrid person, she kept gnawing at this one tooth and I wouldn't give her the time of day. Anywho, the funniest thing is when you're a kid, and you have a cavity, its almost cooler to be able to sit there (barring the pinch of the novocaine, especially in the back area I wailed like William Wallace when I was little). They talk so much crap about dating and guys and rumors and stuff, its hilarious to pick up on that stuff. This is suburbia at its finest. I've never had a problem with the front desk as well, they seem to enjoy working there more than most doctor/dentist offices (some are really terrible with customers). The lobby is clean and has plenty of mags to browse through, and its just a very spacious, nice office, part of a larger clinic. The goodie bag never gets old either. They accept most larger insurance places, and paperwork has always been a cinch here. read more

The absolute worst! Run, don't walk away from this so called dental office. Appointment time: 1:15, time that I was actually seen, 2:00. After almost choking to death during drilling of the tooth from pieces of tooth twice ( no suction device being used by the dental assistant.) and the assistant arguing with the obviously freshly graduated "dentist" about not having the proper tools to complete a root canal I was told that I had to go to another dentist to complete the procedure!! No referral, no instructions, NOTHING! I should have known when I walked in from the attitude of the front desk staff what I was dealing with. I have experienced bad customer service here on a number of occasions. My first experience was when I asked them if they saw children and they said yes. I brought my son in for a check up and they did a check up and a cleaning. They said that he had a cavity but refused to make an appointment to fill it because he was a child. They never explained to me that they only saw children for cleanings and check ups. When they told me that they saw children I had assumed it was for everything. I had to take my son to another dentist and pay out of picket for an exam in order to get the tooth filled since the insurance wouldn't pay for it because it was just done. Several weeks ago I had come in for my exam and cleaning and was told that a crown would fix a tooth problem I was having. I made an appointment for a crown and the dentist numbed me up and then told me she couldn't do the crown and would have to find out what could be done for the tooth and call me back. She never called so I called her and she told me that I would have to see a specialist. I made an appointment with another dentist and signed a release for my records to be sent. Both the other dentist and I have been calling and they still don't have the records. Most of the time they don't answer their phone and I leave a message but no one calls me back. read more

I have never in my life met a more vile and disgusting woman than Dr. Trinidad. After my toddler son sat perfectly still and easily cooperated for his cleaning with the dental hygienist the dentist (Trinidad) came in very aggressive. She sat next to my son and tried ripping his mouth open right away with her hands yelling at him saying, "NO NO OPEN YOUR MOUTH"! After about 30 seconds of her being in the room she stood up and told me I needed to go to a pediatrician to get him "put on something" to be able to sit through the dentist. My son was so scared during this, his first visit to the dentist, that he wet himself right in the chair while she man handled him. There's a HUGE picture of a baby right on the front of their building claiming to be a family dentist. Why did the dental hygienist with all her tools and cleaning have an easy time with his cleaning but after 30 seconds of her abuse the dentist tells me I need to medicate my son? read more

I just came home from having a root canal doctor KOA was excellent. Thorough. And very pleasant to work with. I was a total nervous wreck when I got there and his Dental technician Vicky helped me through the procedure by talking to me and even offered to hold my hand. I had told her my watch had stopped this morning and she took her watch off her wrist and handed it to me so I could keep track of the time as the procedure went along. I am very happy to have found 1st advantage and I will continue going and recommending this practice to my friends. read more

I went here because my old dental practice does not accept my new dental insurance. I wasn't thrilled. The hygienist was pleasant enough, although she never introduced herself so I don't know her name. She didn't say much. The dentist, on the other hand, was miserable. She spent less than one minute in the room, saying "you need a mouth guard, you are grinding your teeth to death" and left. So I assume this place is probably in the business of selling extra services that aren't covered by insurance. The receptionist at the checkout place was miserable too. She asked who I saw; I said i didn't know (because no one introduced themselves to me), and she seemed disgusted that she had to look my appointment up to find out. Overall, I got a good cleaning, but this place leaves MUCH to be desired. If I ever need any real work done (other than cleaning and x-rays) I will go back to my old place and gladly pay out of pocket for real customer service and the benefit of having someone at least say "good morning" and take some time to look and listen. read more

After attending this practice since its founding and experiencing a large change in staff, both administrative and professional, I've had nothing but exceptional service. As I've aged, old dental work had to be reconstruct due to my grinding of teeth while I sleep, chewing both hard and sticky foods, and natural deterioration. I've had root canals, cavities filled or replaced, crowns installed or replaced, and even one implant installed to replace an unsalvageable tooth now over ten years old and in great condition. In all cases, and through at least half a dozen dentists in forty five years, the professionalism has always been beyond reproach. Of course, not all of the dentists were identical in terms of their skills or personalities, but they all explained the reasons for their treatments, the costs, the procedures, the expectations, and the benefits. And, avoiding pain was an utmost goal since I've always been a wimp! My current dentist is Dr. Trinidad, an especially knowledgeable professional with an outstanding assistant. All of the hygienists in all of those years, especially Colleen currently, have done a great job in preventive care in limiting tooth decay and gum disease, an affliction prevalent in my family. As is probably true for any professional office, clients may occasional have a less than stellar experience interacting with specific staff. From my experience, though, employees are dedicated, concerned for the patients' teeth and wallets, and communicate well in delivering an outstanding service. read more

Had severe tooth pain. Got an appointment. Examining person did X-ray, but couldn't even make a judgement (had to consult with another doctor). Then I was told to do another appointment with a "specialist". To suppress pain, I was told to take painkillers. Next appointment was available only in a month. Fortunately, pain went away. So I showed up in a month. It appeared to be another consultation with a "specialist" who suggested to come back in a month (one more appointment) and redo root canal. They will charge you for each visit. But do nothing. Stay away from this place if you can. read more

**Update 07/31: Received a second opinion today of proposed work. Provided x-rays taken from Glenville Dental (1st Advantage). This dentist acknowledged while there was some evidence of a problem, it was so slight that it could have likely gone for a long time without needing restorative service especially in the absence of sensitivity or symptoms. Bottom line: 1st Advantage practices in my experience (Clifton Park, Glenville) are hyper aggressive with their treatment approach. While technically justifiable, their system does not put patients first, but rather their bottom line. Do your homework and understand the services they're offering you. I have cancelled all remaining appointments with this practice and will seek care elsewhere. Original Review: First visit today to this practice for a cleaning, x-rays, and to establish care. Front office was friendly, and seemed well informed. Hygienist took her time and explained each step of her thorough examination. Cleaning was average. My family has been using the same dentist for many years, but due to insurance I had to find a new dentist for a couple years (back around 2006). I went to First Advantage in Clifton Park, and suddenly began having to get 3-4 fillings at every cleaning. I eventually returned to our former family dentist, and the cavities seemed to disappear. I ended up selecting Glenville Dental after moving to the area this year. I didn't realize that First Advantage was a chain, and had taken over Glenville Dental before my visit, or else I would never have gone to begin with. In retrospect I should not be surprised that this dentist also found several cavities that would require two visits to repair. The dentist referenced various "dark spots" (there were others that looked identical, but were not cavities?) as the evidence of cavities. Deja vu all over again. I contacted my insurance company, who suggested I have the office submit a pre-authorization so they could review the evidence of the proposed work. When I called the office, I was advised they don't normally send this sort of documentation as the insurance companies just pay for restorative service. They very professionally obliged to do so, however. I'm interested to see the results of this pre-authorization. Also, the hygienist was attempting to sell a fluoride service during my visit "because as adults we need fluoride"... This was a general statement, and not a result of her findings during examination. I was offered a fluoride treatment, and a fluoride toothpaste to purchase. This is the equivalent of taking your car for an oil change and being offered additional services simply because you own a car. This does not put patients needs first, but makes it obvious that sales are driven factor of their day to day. After doing more research and finding other patients who have mysterious cavity problems when visiting this practice chain, I will be getting xrays at another dentist for a second opinion. Regardless of the outcome, I am cancelling my relationship with First Advantage. In fairness, if the other dentist agrees with the need for fillings I will amend my review appropriately. read more

The staff is pretty friendly if you're friendly. They take about 30-60 minutes to clean your teeth. They never seem to have called me back when I leave messages on their machine. They failed to tell me I forgot to write down my dads social security number so they never submitted to my insurance, so they were expecting me to pay out of pocket, thank god my mom caught it. So make sure you pay attention to paper work. read more

update... after contacting my insurance company !st aDvantageDentist called me back to explain... the money they are now billing me for is: 1) they forgot to bill me for my copay 2) and they used white composite for for the bonding rather than silver which isn't covered under insurance. So how does a dental office 'forget' to charge your copay? It's the first thing they put in every bill for every customer. Red Flag #1. Also, the insurance company rep says "that bonding isn't covered under my insurance". So i asked, why then did you pay them $24 then? The answer... the dental office submitted as doing a filling beacuse the material used for bonding is the same as doing filling for a cavity. "So it's like filling a cavity", the insurance rep said. I asked, two things... is this call recorded? Yes it was. So I said, "Then 'like a filling' is NOT doing an actual filling which is covered. So insn't that insurance fraud?" The rep didn't know what to say. Red Flag #2. Point is... stay away from 1st Advantage Dental. They engage in what seems to be Insurance Fraud, they tell you one price and charge you another leading me to believe their billing practices are subpar. read more

DO NOT EVER GO HERE! I should start out by saying that the only reason I went to this dentist was because my previous dentist stopped taking my insurance and so I went to the nearest one and all I have to say is, if you're looking for an excellent dentist, go to Doctor Salvatore In Malta off of exit 12. Amazing business and friendly workers......... But I cannot say the same for 1st Advantage in Latham. I have been here 3 times in the last month to get a filling redone because it keeps coming out AND they tried to make me pay for it the last time when they should not have because that's their own fault. The first 2 times, I saw Doctor Friedman, he is a nice man but I was not too thrilled about my experience with him or even my experience with Doctor Trinidad. While Doctor Trinidad was working on my teeth, she and her assistant were talking about how they wanted to hurry up and get done with my filling so they could "run out the door" and leave work. That is beyond unprofessional especially when you have a drill in my mouth. I will not ever go back to this place and I suggest no one ever goes to this place too!! read more

Dr. Trinidad is the worst dentist! She is rude and performs unnecessary procedures. My teeth were is good condition before going to her and now have had nothing but issues. She even tried fraudulent billing. When receiving payment from my insurance company for services that were never rendered, told me she would keep the money and would apply it towards a different procedure she said I needed. I said this was fraudulent and eventually the practice told me they sent the money back to my insurance company. Beware of this dentist! read more

Worst experience with a dentist, endodontist, and professional office in general. I was referred to an endodontist here from the nicer/completely different/ seemingly totally unrelated Delmar office where I had been for cleanings. I had a bad feeling about every aspect of my experience here and chose to never return, for the following reasons: 1) the office was dirty from the reception area to the restrooms to even the actual exam rooms, 2) the receptionists lack knowledge and act bothered when asked questions, 3) I have called the office seven times over three different days to cancel a future appointment there and have received no answer and have not been able to leave a message because the mailbox is full, and 4) the endodontist i met with was extremely awkward, acting nervous during the entire visit and being unable to provide useful information or even adequately answer the multiple questions i had to ask to obtain basic information about his diagnoses and recommendations. Please save yourself some trouble and do not go to this office. I have also decided to leave the Delmar office based on their affiliation as I no longer trust this practice. read more

Beware- these guys misled me completely about insurance coverage. Their 'estimate' was that my root canal was covered by insurance. Then after the work was done, they not only used a code that my insurance didn't accept, they charged me $350 more than the maximum my insurance allowed formy root canal. I got stuck with a $950 bill. They offered no help and were rude to me and refused to admit the mistake. Hopefully, it won't happen to you, but I wouldn't risk it. read more
