I have used numerous mechanics throughout my life and this place is definitely a hidden gem that I somehow missed. The owners of my company recommended that I take our delivery truck here to get it repaired. Our delivery truck is very old and has so many problems I wouldn't even know where to start as far as lifting them in the past we have used a few different Canix and they always seem to make things worse while"fixing" the issue at hand. This location is different! They are quick thorough and don't force you to do additional repairs, even if they are needed, just to get more money out of you. We brought the truck to them this time because we did not pass DEQ we were sure it would be a few thousand dollars for the repairs but it was a 10th of that and the truck is good to go. I think the thing I appreciate most about thisParticular Mechanic is he does not talk down to me because I am a woman, he did not talk in circles to avoid getting to the point, and he was more than willing to answer any and all of my questions no matter how silly they seemed. I highly recommend taking your car here for any repairs. I would say the only downfall is they are extremely busy, probably because they are so good, so I would suggest making an appointment! read more

I was expecting a "diagnostic fee" of some sort, but Brandon did not charge me anything for the inspection. Additionally, his team looked at it right away without an appointment. My brother called John and made an appointment for my mothers vehicle to be serviced. The day of the appointment I arrived early to drop off the vehicle. The appointment was nowhere to be found and I was informed they MAY be able to squeeze me in. Aaron at the front desk informed me that it was normal for John to NOT enter appointments and customer concerns into their reservation system. The NO BIG Deal attitude at this service center is inexcusable. John carelessly did not do his job and inconvenienced myself, my brother, my mother and my co-worker who followed me there to then take me to work. Unbelievable. I first went to 1st choice, when I had to pass my car through the deq as I had 2 sensors that failed. I brought my car in, and spoke with Brandon, and he quoted me 600$. I thought kind of expensive, but since it was on the deq's list I figured o.k. After I got my car back, and driving for 2 days the check engine light goes back on, so I call back John, who told me to bring it back in. Now I "need" another sensor that s 150$, o.k I'm in deep now, might as well finish it off. Nope. Two days later my check engine light goes back on, bring it in the 3rd time, then I drive it for two more days, check engine light again, so I go back to deq, and they give me different sensor that is not working. So they basically changed out the wrong sensor, and charged me an extra 150$ I go to another mechanic to confirm this, which they did. I bring it back to first choice one more time. then two days later, right before I get to the deq my check engine light goes on. Now after spending 750 my car is still not fixed, and I have to start over again with another mechanic, which is probably another 250-350$. The worst part is this is $ I had to put on a c.c. so it will take me 6 months to pay off a debt of something that didn't even get fixed. I couldn't tell if the mechanics at 1st choice were either not capable of fixing a 1996 infinity, or they were just "taking me for a ride". I would have to guess that since John recommended I take it to a dealership that it was beyond them, but that smug look he gave me when I got my car back saying "good luck" makes me think otherwise. I don't think I should need "luck" after taking my car to 1st choice ( 5x), but I guess luck is what you need. read more

I had the computer reading of everything that was wrong with my car and the gentleman that helped me showed me what should be done asap and what could wait. John and his crew at the Tigard location are very knowledgeable and their prices are fair. They have serviced several of my vehicles. Recently I took in my daughter's car with an A/C problem. It turns out it needed a new compressor. There was something wrong with the wiring and the computer needed to be replaced. It took a lot of time to figure out the problem, but they worked through it to get it fixed. The car is running better than ever!! read more

This is our go to shop for everything mechanical. Not enough space here for all the compliments. I needed muffler work and they recommended A-1 Muffler. YES, those guys were great. Quote $458 LESS than Midas (Tigard). Two hours & $120.50 was the final bill. If you need work 1st Choice doesn't do, ask them and they will recommend reliable, honest shops that can do it for you. read more

1st Choice Auto should be your LAST choice when getting your car worked on. I brought in my Honda CRV into the shop in August to get the clutch master cylinder replaced because my clutch pedal lost pressure, along with an oil change. They ended up replacing the slave cylinder as well (okay, fine). I get the car back and they tell me that I need the clutch replaced. I say fine, I've never had issues with the clutch, but it does have 200k miles on it. I had the car back no more than a week and the pedal went out again. I have it towed back to their place and they tell me the pedal went out because there's issues with my clutch. I go okay, so I have the clutch replaced by another mechanic (no way am I taking it back to these guys), and about another week later the clutch pedal goes out AGAIN. I have the car towed yet again to 1st Choice and they have the audacity to tell me the pedal went out because of issues with my clutch. I tell them I had the clutch replaced, and they tell me it wasn't replaced because "they can tell". After getting my car back from them for the third time, they tell me they won't work on the car anymore until I get the issue with my clutch fixed. About a week later, guess what? The pedal goes out again. I take it to the same mechanic that replaced my clutch and haven't had issues my clutch pedal since. And the other mechanic I went to was CHEAPER than 1st Choice. To add insult to injury, remember that oil change I had done? Yeah, they put in over a quart of extra oil that I had to go ahead and remove myself. Don't go to 1st Choice Auto. If they can't get a simple oil change right, they are likely not to get anything right. read more

I came in 8/27 around 4:55 to have the driver's side windshield wiper arm looked at because it stopped working. There were 4 or so Tech's in the garage, and Josh was inside. There was one customer. ONE. I explained: the arm worked, but was out of sync, would catch on the other, then stop working. I asked to have someone look at the arm, I thought it was just a nut or screw that needed tightened or was stripped. I apologized for not having an appointment, but stated I thought it'd be a quick fix. Josh gave me a big sigh and said, "boy, the guys out there are really busy right now". When I pulled in, there were cars up in the bays (not all), I could see a couple working, but there were a few others not under a car and not looking "really busy". Again, I realize I did not have an appointment, but I didn't believe this was something that would take more than 5 minutes. Josh said he'd talk to a tech real quick and left. I reiterate, I wanted a tech to LOOK at the arm of my wiper. Josh came back and relayed to me the tech said it was the assembly, and the entire assembly would have to be replaced. I said I really didn't think that was the issue, the other arm worked fine, the problem wiper was working, but being slower than the other it gets caught and stops. I just wanted someone to look at it. Josh again explained to me, in case I didn't get it the first time, the tech said the assembly's are separate from one another and the one arm could work while the other didn't. I asked how much that would cost for my 2002 Hyundai Sonata. Josh said it looked like it would be a tough part to obtain. He then found it, and relayed the cost of the part not including labor was $270. I thanked Josh for his time and said "I'll take my chances". I drove down the road a mile or so and went to a mechanic recommended by a friend if I ever needed one. By now it's after 5:00. The owner of the shop, not one of his 3 mechanics but the owner- after I explained to him what was going on-had me run the wipers. I didn't even need to open the hood. He had me run them a second time, said the screw was turning, went and got a wrench, came back, tightened the nut, had me turn them on once more, and they worked-both arms. He then loosened the nut, adjusted the arm to lay in the same line with the other, re-tightened the nut and wouldn't allow me to give him a dime. I think part of the shuffle at 1st Choice was because I didn't have an appointment. I think another part-I'm a woman. What could I possibly know? Surely, although I had examined the assembly myself-something not done at 1st Choice-I couldn't possibly know what I'm talking about. It takes a special gift to be able to diagnose a problem without even LOOKING at the problem. What I know with certainty is - 1st Choice will be my last choice and if anyone I know ever talks about needed car repairs, I know exactly where to tell them NOT to go. I also made sure to share my experience with friends who don't need a mechanic, so they too will be able to not recommend 1st Choice. read more

Was recommended to come here by my dad. My car overheated Tuesday, and I called Tuesday evening to see if they had availability for Friday (didn't have anywhere to be Wednesday/needed to have my car Thursday to take a final), my car began smoking Thursday, so I dropped it off at 1st Choice to avoid driving it back home. I wasn't expecting them to look at it until Friday (which was totally okay because they looked busy and I had called to be seen Friday). I get a call a couple hours after saying I need a new radiator and they can have it done before they close. I went to First Choice Auto on the recommendation of a friend. He could not say enough nice things about them - honest and fairly priced. Plus I did look at reviews about them and they were, for the most part, positive. I took my car in on a Saturday morning after my power steering went out while driving home from work the day before. Needless to say it was a bit scary, much less dangerous! I certainly did not think they would get it in that Saturday, but when I had not heard anything from them Tuesday afternoon, I called. They said that they could not find anything wrong, and that they were going to drive it more the next day. Still no communication the next day, or the day after. I called on my way home from work Thursday and the guy who answered the phone said "Oh, its done. You can come pick it up." I said that would have been good to know and he just kind of poo-pooed me. When I did get it that evening, they were already closed. The power steering went out on me THREE times before I even left the parking lot!! I had to hobble it to the gas station across the street as I had ZERO gas left in my car. I had to keep turning my car off and restarting it to get the steering going, just to have it go out again. It went out SIX times in a two mile trip back to my house. I find it VERY coincidental that they drove my car SO much, had it for FOUR days and it NEVER happened to them ONCE. Give me a break!! I don't think they did anything. I called and left a voice mail that evening asking them to call me to try and figure this thing out, and (SHOCKER!) not a word. I am disappointed to say the least. It was an inconvenience to try and figure out getting to and from work, absolutely NO communication from these guys and my car is STILL not fixed. I will never go there again or recommend them, and I will let everyone I know how crappy their service was. read more
