I went into the San Leandro branch of 1st United Credit Union for the first time to get some cash because it's close to my office and I asked about my high yield savings account. Apparently it had not been accruing interest. Alycia who is one of the tellers there took it upon herself to look into my case and made several phone calls while I was there. Then she told me she would further investigate what was going on and let me know something by the end of the week. At the end of the week I received an email and a phone call saying that they were back paying me for the interest I should have earned on it over the last year and they deposited into my account! Alycia went above and beyond to ensure I got my money and the correct acc and I am SO appreciative!! read more

I just needed a check to pay a plumber who fixed a burst pipe for us. Who keeps a checkbook any more? I was told they don't give out checks, that I'd have to order checks for $30 and wait for them to arrive. I can't get a check for my checking account with your bank? I was told no. 30 minutes later I was handed 4 "starter" checks at a different branch in Pleasanton and was able to pay the plumber. Wowza! What can I say?! I've been with 1st USCU since I was a wee lad / high school student, and have always been satisfied with my experiences here. Easy parking (both on & off street), in addition, to being within walking distance of a Safeway, a hardware store, several restaurants/eateries, and a vibrant & buzzin' coffee shop! (Zocalo's) I always had frequented this location when I was still a student, however, I do 'bank' more nowadays at the Hayward location, since it is right next door to the office! I do find myself a few times here, since it is located in the city where I currently reside. The area is safe, secure, and super convenient - being right on the corner of Bancroft & Dutton in the 'North Area' of San Leandro; boasts an amazing & personable/professional staff, AND includes a security door - similar to those screening machines in the airport where it scans you via a metal detector & camera before staff can let you in! I've never seen that in the other 'basic' financial institutions, ahem ahem - ya'll know which banks I'm talking about LOL. Always have been a satisfied customer and will continue using their services. Thank you, 1st USCU! I am giving this specific location 2 stars. I am currently a member and love 1st United but I will not come to THIS location again. I am only giving it 2 stars for being open on Saturday AND for the convenient location. The customer service gets no stars. I brought my daughter here to open an account (new business!) at 12:28. They close at 1pm and they told me the process to open an account was 40 minutes so they couldn't help us but I could make an appointment to come back! Absolutely not!!! Who turns away New business! I don't know what this specific branch's policy is but in my experience as a customer service provider, you provide service until your doors close; you don't turn away customers in anticipation of your doors closing!! I've been a member for over two years and dealt with other financial institutions. In these days "Customer Service " is out the door. With that said I want to give a big shout out and thank you to the branch Financial Services Representative lll Michelle Bedolla. This lady was nice courteous helpful friendly, and sufficient in her job. The HR department at the company I work for misplaced my pay into another account at First United and told me I had to get the bank to release the money it should be noted this was HR fault so I go into the branch not knowing where to start. Ms. Bedolla greeted me and 20 minutes later it was all done money taken from the wrong account and placed in mines. Two weeks later I have the same problem, who's there to greet me and take of it? Ya I I was going to be nice with these people but I'm not gonna be nice no more first off I went there a week ago and the line was out the door as usual. I thought that there was Covid restrictions going on? My wife and I both regarded it as a stressful experience (we now have to go to this location because the Union City branch is about to become an ATM-only location). This branch is open on Saturdays from 9-1 p.m. (my wife and I only did our banking today because we both have the day off). The Hayward branch is closer to us, but it's no longer open on Saturdays (I'm starting to lose faith in 1st United Services). The parking lot is abysmally small and tight. There is only 1 way to enter and 1 way to exit. I'm truly annoyed that a better location for this branch wasn't chosen (it was a hassle entering and exiting, and my wife wonders how things are on Saturdays- we're sure that things are worse then). Returning home was even a pain (after waiting a minute for traffic to clear, my wife made a U-turn on Dutton Avenue). (3/28: 2 spots would have been available had we waited another minute, but my wife and I ended up parking in front of a house about half a block up.) One of our favorite tellers works here (Franco). Sadly, though, he wasn't around (the 2 tellers who were here did a solid job). There are at least 4 teller stations (modules). In addition, some tellers from the Union City branch will probably begin working here soon. If you have to wait to be helped, it's a little confusing as to where you should stand. A woman who entered after us basically stood near the wall, as if we were diseased (I just smelled myself and now have a different theory). You have to wait for a blue light to appear in order to exit (at the Union City branch, you're only waiting for a blue light in order to enter). (Maybe they suddenly changed things, as this wasn't an issue on 3/28.) It's not a big deal, but I got spoiled by the chairs at the Union City branch (my wife and I usually go up together- if there's a chair, I'll sit down while she does her banking). It was also nice not dealing with bulletproof transaction windows (I guess my life of crime is now over). The waiting area consists of 3 chairs on the far left (on 3/28, a boy was killing some time on his phone while the rest of his family was taking out a loan or something). There's no area for children (there was a small play area at the Union City branch). It smells a bit musty inside (my wife noticed this). The building seems older than it actually is. There are 3 ATMs (1 inside, 2 outside). All 3 were used while we were here (there were at least 6 other customers around). "Is there anything else?": Our teller made me feel a bit rushed (I felt like telling her that things were going to take a while), but she handled a lot of transactions quickly and accurately (my son now has enough money in his savings account to go to college for a week). Kudos. We were in a hurry. The chief financial advisor was around, but he wisely left us alone (I don't know what he was promoting exactly, but he talked to 2 women around us). I've been with 1st United my entire life and have always been satisfied with my experiences here. I have both a savings and a checking, and when I was about 17 they sent me my first credit card, with a $300 limit. Online banking with them is easy to use and I paid a balance on my credit card seamlessly. This location in particular has friendly staff, and they recently included a security door where the staff has to buzz you in before you can enter. My only problem with 1st United is that they don't have enough atm's available around the bay area, so you can pretty much expect to be faced with atm fees if you're using your 1st United debit card at an atm. But other than that, I've never experienced any other fees or problems using them as my bank and plan to continue using their services. read more
