I recently completed the two-day MTC course at the Coyote Valley Center. The online sessions was delivered by Chris via Zoom. He kept them funny and made sure everyone is engaged. He also ensured to stress on the critical points of riding. For the range sessions, our first day instructors were Skip and Shayon and second day instructors were Skip and Dave. All the instructors seemed passionate about motorcycles and ensuring everyone learns the right technique. I had last ridden a motorcycle 11 years ago and was feeling a bit nervous for the range sessions. But all the instructors were good and provided feedback to the point. Just following their instructions to the T helped me to get back my confidence. On the second day, I was feeling very comfortable. I believe all of the students in our class had prior riding experience and everyone seemed to learn pretty quickly. I believe everyone cleared the riding portion of the test. The written test was taken at the end of day 2 and I didn't wait for everyone to finish, as I wanted to rush home. So hoping everyone cleared and got their DL 389. Sam, Pierre, and Diane did an amazing job teaching and being mentors on the range. I had a very positive experience with the 3 because they explained to me exactly what I was doing wrong when I messed up and praised me whenever I did something right! Sam (who gave our eval debrief) explained to me that I had scored the lowest points (which means the highest score) in the class. He also encouraged me to join IRC (the intermediate riding courses) to continue learning how to ride and all. Overall, this was a great first experience on a bike and I just want to say thanks to all my instructors for having the patience to deal with us new riders!!! After a brief experience with the booking system that charged our bank account 4 times with no feedback, I called their office in Hayward the next day. The receptionist ignored the information about the booking system error that needs to be addressed and suggested it was my fault that the error occurred. The best thing is, she claimed to receive no information along with the payments. Which means, that we don't have any reservation made in our name. She offered no excuses or options for holding our two spots for the next week's rider course, or any other way to pre-pay the reservation. I am not at all impressed that so many reviews state the same: this is a place where you get ignored and harassed, all for your own money. I do NOT recommend you EVER doing any business with this school. read more

I just had my class this past weekend. The first classroom training by Chris was fun and entertaining. Then came the first range training. The instructors are professional and knowledgeable. But it wasn't until I got on the motorcycle, in the middle of an exercise where I needed to balance my bike and apply some speed to the bike that I was overcome with fear. I wasn't counseled out of class, but I chose not to continue because I didn't want to hurt myself or anyone else. I called the office asking for partial refund, or even postponement of completing my class at a later date. They were unreasonable. Absolutely no refunds, and if I want to continue, I would need to pay more money. I would not recommend any beginners to take this class, especially if you've never been on a motorcycle and you realize while you're on the range that you have to stop because of fear. I didn't want to hurt anyone because of my fear so I didn't continue. But apparently choosing to be responsible means losing all my money and on top of that having to pay more if I want to continue. read more

I completed my motorcycle safety course with this company recently. They emailed me asking for my feedback. And below are the contents of the email I sent to them. ***************** I did complete my motorcycle safety course with your company recently. And I do have some feedback regarding one of your instructors. The story behind this feedback: (Some background about myself. I'm a citizen of India and I've been living in the US for about 3 years now.) On my second day at the range in Newark, all the riders in the class were asked to enter the staging area and park the motorcycles. While I'm completely sure I was not passing the rider in front of me before entering the staging area, the instructor accused me of doing that. Below is the exact conversation I had with the instructor. Instructor: Tell me what you did wrong. Me: Nothing. Instructor: You tried to pass him, didn't you? (pointing at the other rider) Me: No, I didn't. Instructor: You're disagreeing with me for the second time. Me: No, I didn't try to pass him. Instructor: Now for the third time. Me: I don't know what you saw. But I did not try to pass him. Instructor: Now you're arguing with me for the fourth time. I remained silent, not wanting to start an argument, and the instructor talked to the other rider. Instructor: What do you think? Do you think he tried to pass you? Other rider: I don't know. I don't think so. And now, the instructor says something that I'll never forget about your company and its way of treating its customers. Instructor: Who're you going to side with? Me? Or the terrorist? Is this the way instructors are supposed to treat their students? I did not react at the time, because I did not want the time the other riders had already spent in the range go to waste. The instructor in context here is Derek (I think that's how it's spelt). I really hope this was a one-time incident. Please note that we pay full fees for your services. And we expect decent services in return. But instead, having to hear such racist remarks from one of your employees, is unacceptable. I hope this feedback is taken seriously, and some action taken against the instructor. I will, in fact, copy the contents of this email and post it as a Yelp review, so that other people who plan on taking classes from your company know what to expect. ************ read more

The thing about these guys is they take you for granted. They have a lot of people (mostly under 21) that are required by state to take the class that their customer service has suffered tremendously. I signed up and paid the $250 fee, went to the 5 hour long class...state apparently requires their students to spend a certain amount of "time" in class room...so the focus is not so much on the actual content, because honestly I didn't learn much and you can just read the manual yourself in under an hour....but they do a "class activity" - every couple of people are assigned a few questions, and they basically find the answer in the book and read it, first few times its ok, but after a while, it really gets dry. The instructor told us we will need to stay in the class until 10pm even though we were all done early, reminded me of the high school days... Then the range portion, I showed up before the requested time at 12:30pm...the guy told me to go find a helmet, I tried bunch of different ones and only ONE fit...I took it over and he said, no you can't use this....this is Rick's helmet. I said well, this is the only one that fit....he said you will need to find another one...I said I'm not going to ride with an unsafe helmet, a ill-fitting helmet is just as bad as no helmet if not worst... Anyways, he then told me that I can no longer participate in the class because I will be holding up the class because of needing a helmet...I said, well, what do you want me to do? I came here and you guys promised to provide me with the helmet... The instructors walks away and tells me I need to call the office to arrange for another range... I call the office, they tell me I need to pay a $50 service fee and they don't have any spots available for another few months, I said this is very inconvenient...he said well, in here in the report it says you were argumentative with the instructor, you put your hands on them, and your were late.... I told them this is such low class of the instructors, of course, I told them I am not going to ride with an unsafe helmet, and I may have touched the guys elbow, but to actually put that in the report and then tell me I was late.... Anyways, I said I will need a full refund or I will do a charge back on my credit card, he checked with management and gave me the full refund. -- If you are over 21, you don't need this class. If you want to take this class, take it with another company. There is something seriously wrong with these guys.... read more

I came into the desire to ride pretty late in life and figured it was a timing thing- maybe I was just busy doing everything and anything besides riding a motorcycle. It seemed like something for other people and that I would be a spaz and the gear wouldn't fit and all that. No way would I ever be able to handle traffic, hills or pedestrians walking willy nilly in front of me. Two years ago, I took the 3 part class. I passed my written exam, given on the first night. Whew! Two full weekend days of riding around a parking lot to go... I dropped the bike. I was slow on the group stuff. I was very self conscious. Little by little, I learned to ignore the asshole guys who thought they knew everything. Little by little, I learned how to speed up, slow down, and stop. I learned how to look at the bike and how to get on and off. I learned how to turn widely and turn tightly. I learned how to not be so afraid of this incredible machine between my legs. The instructors were completely dedicated to their work and took no shit from anyone. They said things like "We're not yelling at you, we're yelling towards you!!!" They all knew a lot about beginners and were completely focused on getting everyone through the learning curve. The course provides a bike for each student, but you need to bring helmet and gloves. And lunch. I got a bike recently, but the lessons all came back on the first practice ride around the local parking lot. Today I took my first solo ride to the store. Yes, me. Traffic, beginner skills, less than perfectly stylish clothing, but the true beginning of a most amazing new chapter in my so-called life. read more

I want to update my review on these guys. Its been 3 to 4 years since I've seen these guys. Although i left a negative review for them I want to retract it. My original complaint was that they don't give you enough time in the saddle/range to get more familiar with riding. Although that was true but what I failed to realize is that all the time they spent showing/explaining about all the " safety" skills we needed was more important than the riding part. They want us to be safe!!! That is key to riding. Learning how to ride a motorcycle is the easy part. U turns n slow riding skills is the next easiest part. But riding safely and knowing what to do at all times to be safe is the most difficult part about riding a motorcycle. Riding safely is the most important thing that they will spend time telling you about. Riding isn't for everyone. If you don't even get the basics down on just operating a motorcycle they will see that n eject you and if you make it to last day you will most likely fail test if you haven't got operating a motorcycle down. You need to know the simple fundamentals of operating a motorcycle before or during classes. When they're telling you the fundamentals of riding a motorcycle you have to really catch on on the 1st day. And their training system is hoping you catch on to operating a motorcycle quickly and training system focuses on safety a lot more which is the BEST MOTORCYCLE TRAINING to give a new rider. read more

Prior to taking the training, I had only ever been a passenger when I was a kid. By the end of the first day (I took the 2 day course), I was confident in my ability to use a clutch. The instructors were very accomodating and concerned about our safety as they knew we may be riding on public roads soon. I signed up for extra ride time since the course was a little crowded due to slower riders. I had a great time :) read more

Worst business ever seen in Bay Area. All their rules are aimed to kick you out of the class or gain additional charges. If you need waiver - go and get if from other school for same price there at least 3 other places without those strange policies. At Mission College they don't have their own parking so you have to pay or will get a 35$ ticket. If you will be late no matter why - they will ask you contact office, and office will just ignore you and you will not be able to reschedule you class, so you will waste you 300$. If staff will not like your sneakers - again, you will waste 300$. Bikes which they offer for ranges - crap with worn clutch / brakes. Best option is to go to DMV lot on weekend. Practice for 30 minutes. Pass driving test. Save 300$ for better gear. Tell a friend. read more

I took the course at Gavilan college. Very informative! I'm glad I took it, but I'm even more glad it's over! The main instructor (Chris) was a little too gruff for my taste. He is a former drill sergeant and it shows. His way of teaching just doesn't jive with my way of learning. The constant barking of orders often flustered me and made it difficult to progress. I felt tense every time I had to deal with him. What I needed was coaching and practice, not barking. He mentioned twice to the whole class that he knows that's how he is and not to get upset by it. But if you know that's how you are - why not tone it down a bit? I get it that they have to yell to be heard but this was a different kind of yelling. It was not confidence inspiring and the experience was not fun. Dude was also on the phone for half the class. I'm sure he's busy - but maybe he's too busy if he needs to be on the phone that much. My other gripes were that the bathrooms were far away and often locked. Breaks were too short. And it was very difficult to do Zoom class at home, then only have an hour to get to the range - under the threat that you fail and get locked out if you're late. The schedule was very fast paced. Otherwise, the course was great. I HIGHLY recommend it, but I would recommend a different location other than Gavilan College as long as Chris is there if you think that that aggressive style of teaching isn't for you. He knows his stuff, but he's just a bit too much for me. There was another visiting instructor, Patrick, who was phenomenal. He was really great at helping get skills built up quick. If I take another course, I will likely try to find out where Patrick is teaching and try to take it with him. Patrick is the man! Re: Price, I paid $350, which is actually decent if you consider that it includes two days of riding a borrowed motorcycle, helmet (if needed), and multiple instructors pay. read more

Took the Basic MotorCycle Safety class 19, 21, 22nd of February 2015. First the positives. All the instructors remained focused and available to the students. Timely in both positive re-enforcement and compassionate corrections. They managed to walk the fine line between being personable and maintaining authority and control. Good Job to all. Special mention to Kelly who did a lot of the heavy lifting instruction wise. Classroom content was good all useful even if some parts like a unit on the wisdom of driving sober were just plain common sense and could have been omitted in favor of other topics perhaps not so obvious. This was either the first or second class taught with the newer and more difficult format. The driving section was the full 5 hours for two days. As a novice rider I will say it was a serious challenge. Make sure you are rested and good physical conditioning is very helpful. I can not over state this. This class is no cake walk. I dumped my bike twice during training. Both times my fault. Immediate assistance was rendered. I now know much more about what a truly good rider should be able to do. I got a serious ego check and I am fully aware of how much practice I still need. I highly recommend this class and company and I feel it was a REALLY GOOD VALUE. OK so here is my gripe and its a little unreasonable at that. Some of the bikes are in pretty tough shape. The selection is a little limited for people that have body types and sizes that fall outside the Norm. But I get it, the bikes get rough treatment and it would be very costly to have a motorcycle boutique for students to browse and get a custom fit. read more

So i just got my first motorcycle and was told to go to this class before i "Hurt myself" and i got to say it was a all around great class! I got lucky with the Monday-Tuesday class, as in there was only 5 others taking it. Our teacher Kevin Magee was the best! Very clear in his way of teaching and always in control. The bikes were a little old and WELL used but they are great learner bikes! Kevin Kept the class cool and funny, I'll be back once i get some more EXP under my belt for the intermdiate class! The basic training consists of a day in a classroom and two days out on the range. The classroom goes over a wide range of material about how a motorcycle works, what to do in certain situations, techniques, safety tips, etc. It's pretty dull since you just go over questions in the book and watch a series of training videos. On the range, you start from the very basics and was extremely helpful for someone who has never ridden a motorcycle. By the end of the course, I was pretty comfortable operating a bike. The instructors on the range are cool people but also pretty strict. In an environment like the range, it really is important to be stern to enforce safety. I had Dianne for the classroom and Ian and Don for the range. Class was enjoyable and definitely helpful. 2 Wheel Safety is recommended. read more

This course is definitely worth it. It's fun, it's exciting, and its educational. If you are interested in riding a motorcycle and you have no knowledge what so ever. 2 Wheel Safety would be a great place to go. They break it down into 3 parts in 3 days. Day 1 - You go to the lecture class to learn about the safety of riding, the laws, the basics of the operating systems on a motorcycle, and at the end of the 5 hour lecture, you take a test that you have to pass. You cannot miss 10 questions out of 50. The test is pretty easy and everything you learned in class is on the test. The lecture course you go through over 120 questions together as a class and find the answers as a group. Riding Portion Day 2 & 3 - You have to have your own gloves that cover your hands, your own boots and you SHOULD bring your own helmet. The course supply helmets for you to borrow but they are disgusting. Imagine this, someone else has been wearing that helmet for 10 hours in the heat for 2 days. Who knows what they have done in it. One of the instructors said that old people sneeze inside them so I highly recommend you purchase your own helmet. Your helmet HAS to be DOT approved in order for you to use it. Day 2 - You learn how to properly go onto a motorcycle, you learn how to properly shift into gears, you learn how to check your motorcycle so it starts up correctly, you learn the friction-zone or contact point which enables the motorcycle to move. You learn how to turn towards the direction you want to by using the " look where you want to go " technique. You also learn how to properly stop and smoothly. Day 3 - You learn how to do a very difficult turn on a motorcycle called the " U-Turn ". It is difficult because you perform the U-Turn in a small box. You learn how to quick stop by using both of the breaks. You learn how to swerve out of danger and you learn how to ride over hazardous objects. Day 3 is where you will take your riding test. It is point based so if you miss over 20 points. you fail. You can land right on 20 and pass. The course changes and from what I've heard, the test is designed so that if you completely mess up on 1 of the 4 courses during the test and do well on the other 3, you will pass. read more

I had an overall positive experience learning the basics of riding a motorcycle. I've never ridden before and passed. It's not very difficult to pass the evaluation, but with that said, it will help to practice more (at parking lots or a quiet, non-busy neighborhood) to gain confidence on the streets. I certainly don't feel well-prepared to ride around on busy streets or highways in the city. BUT I feel like I know well enough to ride around less busy areas since the riding portion of the class only happened in parking lots and not in the streets. It will also help to know how to drive a manual transmission car. It's not necessary, but it will help transfer the knowledge to understand the friction-zone on a clutch and shifting gears. The course consisted for 1 classroom day and 2 riding days on the range (parking lot). The classroom day was fairly dry, but lasted about 3 hours instead of the advertised 5. We didn't go over everything we SHOULD know, but did go over everything we NEEDED to know for the range. We were given a book, so we can always go back and read it to learn the things we didn't learn in the class. We essentially learned mostly from watching videos and some study questions. There was a written test at the end of the classroom day, but it's absolutely nothing to worry about. The study questions were essentially the same questions on the test. In fact, the instructor said that no one's failed in the 12 years he's taught the course. The range portion of the course was actually quite fun and consisted of various exercises riding around cones. Some of the things taught/practiced: braking, swerving, corners, u-turns, and shifting. Some advice: just listen to the instructors. If you happen to mess up or yelled at, don't get flustered. The motorcycles used for the class were all 125-250cc and ranged in age/condition. There were two new Honda CBR sport bikes. The rest were older supermotos and cruisers. read more

Took this class almost 5 years ago at the Hayward/Newark locations. I came into this having never rode a motorcycle before in my life. The classroom instructor was very knowledgeable and helpful. The riding portion of the class went smoothly and the two instructors there were helpful as well. They were very concerned about our safely. They constantly made sure all our gear was worn properly, caught me without my helmet strap a couple times. At any rate, I ended up passing the course (as well as everyone else there) and I'm still riding today. read more

This course was easy enough. Most of the instructors were stern and tough but pretty cool as long as you listen, show improvement, don't make excuses or act like a know-it-all, then you'll be fine. Joe was awesome and approachable. There was an asian instructor (I forgot his name-ken or alvin) that was BEYOND rude. He was one of our instructors on the last day ( Evaluation day). He waved his arms and screamed at people like a crazy person which made everyone nervous and frustrated which then caused us to mess up more ( safety hazard?!). When people asked him questions he was sarcastic and rude. My advice is don't let an instructors attitude hinder your learning experience- if you have questions ask someone else or confront them about it so that you get as much as you can out of the class. Its your money, time and safety. Also don't be on time, BE EARLY. the days were set up as... first day: 4 hour instruction Tip: they do not give you the handbook in class. It is attached in the email confirmation. Go over it the first night Second day: 4 hour riding exercises; 1 hour Lunch; 4 hour instruction theres a written test at the end of class and they grade it right there. Third day: 5 hours riding exercises then evaluation. The eval was a lot easier then I thought it would be. Just make sure you get everything down during the exercises. read more

The class was very helpful. I obtained my M1 motorcycle license back in 92'. I haven't ridden since I took the DMV test. I took the beginner's course as a refresher. It was well worth it. The instructors (Ian and Derek) were great. They were very patient and informative. My classmates came from different riding experience. There was one old salty rider that was only taking the course to get a discount from his insurance. He even mentioned that he learned a few tips from the class. There were a few riders that were new to riding a motorcycles. It was very refreshing when the more experienced riders gave their fellow classmates words of encouragement during the breaks. Here are a few tips. 1) Study the handbook online BEFORE attending the first class. It is presented at a quick pace. This is done so that the class won't go over the 4 hour mark. 3) Bring water and snacks to the outside training seminar. There were clean bathroom (men/women) at the Newark Pavilion. I was worried about there being no bathrooms. 4) Show up 15min early before each session. They will turn you away if you are late. 5) Bring the right gear. I bought mine at Walmart. I didn't want to spend over $100+ for gloves at the local bike shop. I found very sturdy leather gloves at Walmart for only $10 buck that met their requirements. 6) Bring your riding gear to the first class if you are worried that they won't meet the outside riding requirements. I was worried that my Walmart gloves/Payless boots were not up to snuff. They were. 7) Have fun. read more

Had a great class with TWST. I've got umpteen years of riding experience with several thousand miles under my belt but I wanted to save some coin on my insurance. My driving record is spotless and I'm out of the "high-risk" category but my premium still hit my wallet hard! I spoke to several ins companies and the common denominator to SAVE any more money was to complete an MSF course. That was my número uno reason for taking the course. To my surprise I was also able to pick up (read: break some bad habits) some tips even after 18+ years of riding. A good rider is always learning something new every time they throw their leg over a moto. A smart rider puts what he learns in to practice. A great rider knows lesser riders don't do either and will take the necessary steps to ensure he makes it home safely. That being said, I was happy to find myself humbled out on the range with my rider coaches. Turns out you CAN teach old dogs new tricks! This instructors were very professional and helpful. One was a little harsh during course 2 but it was a little motivating. But I felt like I received my moneys worth. Not only in knowledge, but discounts @ the Cycle Gear and insurance wise. -1 star 'cause the instructor was late for course 1 'cause she didn't know she was scheduled. I gotta disagree with Somala however...If they asked you to reschedule you should have asked to reschedule for a time that suited you better and not in the early am, if you are not a morning person....and State Law Prohibits tardiness during course #2. Meaning they are not allowed to let you in if you are late by any means. They don't have a choice. You would have known that if you took a moment to read the disclosures you are told to read, sign and turn into the instructors during course #1. read more

Just completed the basic CMSP led by Adam. Although it's set material, his pacing of classes are really good and informative, making it way more interesting overall. Adam's range courses are structured and you'll get instant feedback to improve riding skills. I took this course a few years ago and it worked out great. They make sure that you pass all the book knowledge and written classroom tests before you can actually get on the motorcycles. The classroom part was in Hayward and the hands on riding lessons were in an empty parking lot in Fremont. At one point I was trying to turn the bike around and I lost balance and dropped the whole motorcycle. No fear though because the bike wasn't even in gear. It was just too heavy for me so I literally got off it and let it drop. Instead of getting yelled at the instructor commended me for shutting of the engine =) I thought that I would have to take the class over but they didn't mind because the bikes were pieces of crap anyway. They also teach you everything essential for riding safely and the instructors are there to help you and answer all the questions you may have. read more

I finished the class this weekend (2/18/12, 2/19/12) and as someone with NO motorcycle experience at all, this class was great. I felt such a sense of achievement when I passed. Was it nerve-wracking? Yes, but I've never ridden a motorcycle and I don't know how to drive a manual transmission so I expected it to be difficult. My instructor in the classroom was Derrik, and both he and Ian instructed my class on the riding range at the Newark Pavilion. On the first day on the riding range when you learn to shift from first gear into second, and after my five or six unsuccessful attempts to shift into second, Ian took the time to run beside me on my bike and say the steps to shift out loud to me so I could finally get it, and I did! I also want to comment on the review that said that as a woman they felt uncomfortable in the class because of the various sexist comments, that I never heard or experienced anything like that (not to say she didn't experience it, but that not every class will treat you like that). My classes were with Derrik and Ian and I never felt like I was being talked down to. There were two other women in my class with me, one being a very good friend and she definitely would have said something if she felt as if she was being treated differently. If you're looking to get a scooter after the class, let them know and they'll get a scooter ready for you to use on the course. You can use your own bike on the course if it's under 250cc's. If you don't want to buy a helmet, you can use one of theirs. Bring a beanie to wear underneath it if you don't want to mix your head sweat with the hundreds of other people who've also worn that helmet. read more

YES excited that I made the decision to take this course. Deciding to learn to ride a motorcycle is one of those things that can get pushed back and back, giving yourself reasons of "not this time, but maybe in [insert time frame in the future]", and then repeating that cycle over and over until years pass and you still haven't done it and so on and so forth (possssssibly speaking from experience here :3 ). Anyway, if you're undecided but actually just finding ways to talk yourself out of it, definitely just do it, take this class! This specific course with 2 Wheel Safety is well-organized and the instructors dole out tough instruction, so bring that thick skinned mentality with you to the range. You will be learning a lot of new skills on a bike (if you're very beginner like myself), so prepare to be a learning SPONGE and implement as quickly as you can. TIP: This is mentally and physically more exhausting than I had imagined. Example: do not go to class very tired and/or sick. My mistake was thinking that an upset stomach wouldn't affect me that much, but your physical and mental state makes a biiiiig difference in how you'll feel out there on your bike Also note: I am like... 5'1.5" ... and they had motorcycles to fit my height. If you are also a girl/female, you will be in the minority. BUT... do not let height or gender stop you from taking class!! Just do it and have fun!!! :))) read more

I live in Palo Alto but picked Hayward/Newark location since it's got a more intensive calendar (Santa Clara would take you two week to complete the training). Overall, I enjoyed my class. I have never ridden on a motorcycle my entire life and being only 18 I can't say I've had much experience on the road either. However, the course is simple and pre-knowledge of basic safety will help wonders. Instructors Kelly and Ian at the Mission College site were blunt but were very very clear on critique and criticism. However, their instructions on what to do after you've obtained your DL389 were quite a bit off. The DMV gave me a normal CLASS C written test to go along with my M1 written test, and if you are under 21 you will obtain a PERMIT for 6 months before getting your actual M1. (Which you only have to wait 6 months and walk back in to the DMV) Knowing the basics of a manual transmission car is necessary to take this course. Yes it is supposed to be a beginners course to teach students the basics of a motorcycle from the ground up, but c'mon its a 3 day course with only 2/3 of those days dedicated to riding. Knowing how to successfully operate a manual transmission will allow you and the instructors to focus on the other motorcycle-specific skills such as taking corners, swerving, etc. Which should really be why you're here, not learning what a clutch is. read more

These Machines are heavy and they do not come back up with pure strength. I believe it will be nice if they taught us how to pick up the bike because they don't, and it is a needed on the road. read more

Had a great experienct taking the BRC all around in Hayward/Newark. Derik led the classroom session and he made the fact that we were there after a long day of work for several hours bearable. Got the information across through a good mix of group/individual work and discussion/videos. Answered questions, gave some tips from his personal experience, etc. He brought energy that helped the time pass more quickly. I had a very small group for the actual riding portion, which was led by Dianne. She did a fantastic job. Got a lot of very good feedback from her, she was very patient, explained things very clearly, answered my dumb questions about checking the oil in my bike, etc. Everything about my experience with Dianne was positive, she was great too, letting us practice for the eval until we felt comfortable, offering encouragement, etc. read more

I just completed (and passed!) the Basic Safety Course. The class is presented in 3 sessions. First, you do a classroom session at their Hayward location where you do group work to complete a workbook. After each section you are asked questions about that section and watch a video to reinforce the topics and the instructor (Derek in my case) asks questions and reinforces parts that will be needed later. At the end of the classroom part you take a 50 question exam. 40 is a pass. The next two sessions take place at their driving range at the Newark Pavilion. The practical part is pretty comprehensive, beginning with familiarizing you with all the components on the bike, proper technique for shifting and finding neutral and then, of course, riding drills to help you learn proper technique for start/shutdown, shifting, braking, cornering and swerving...etc. The final session tests the skills you learned. Derek was a great instructor. He was patient, confident, communicated clearly with everyone by name. In my view he conducted the class very professionally. Importantly, he judged the level of the class and adjusted the pace appropriately. My class was a mix of people that have ridden before and novices and I think everyone's needs were met and everyone in our group passed. I recommend this class. A good review if your coming back to riding and a lot of useful info if you're new. read more

Loved this class! Derik did the classroom instruction in Hayward... he covered a lot of material, but was really fun and funny.... it was an enjoyable evening with lots of laughter. The handbook that you will be given in class is on-line on their site... if you have time, read through it ahead of time... it will help, as the class goes fast with lots of material to cover. All of the rider coaches were great. Derik was my favorite because he really instills confidence and encourages you... "how are you feeling about this? you're a rock star, you can do it" He has a plethora of knowledge about riding safely and being a good rider. He is a gentle soul who really wants to give you the tools to succeed. Whatever they pay him to work there isn't enough! The most important things... don't be late to class (be early), bring your own helmet if you are particular about hygiene and having other people's funk on your head, bring water/snack on riding days, eyes up, chin up when you ride (don't look down), when you are riding at slow speeds - use 95% clutch and 5% throttle. Worth every penny and then some! read more

I recently attended the motorcycle safety training with a different school. I took the form they gave me for completing the class to the DMV, and was rejected because they hadn't stamped it with a special authorizing stamp. The clerk at the DMV showed me what it looked like. My school didn't answer the phone, but later emailed to arrange for stamping the forms. In the meantime, I'd called CMSP, who runs the program for all of CA. Trish there answered the phone, and arranged for me to visit 2 Wheel Safety Training to get a stamp. Both Trish and Joy at 2 Wheel Safety Training got me set up the same day, and always answered their phones when I needed help. Despite not having me as a customer, Joy went out of her way to help me. I'd gladly recommend 2 Wheel Safety Training based on this over-and-above service, for someone they didn't have to give the time of day. read more

I took my course at Mission College in Santa Clara. Marcus was my instructor for the entire three days. He's a super nice guy and never raised his voice at anyone. A student arrived late to the range and he let him stay. Another student didn't wear the proper shoes, so Marcus swapped shoes with him for the day. My class was five hours for three consecutive days starting at 6:45 am. You will have to pass a 50 question multiple guess exam. Don't stress it because you are allowed to miss up to 10. I finished it in three minutes and only got two wrong. I recommend the motard (dirt bike) because it's lighter and therefore easier to control. I rode the Suzuki 250cc cruiser, which felt weird to me because I am so used to riding supersport bikes. The only thing that people might have trouble with is the figure 8. The smaller box is a little tricky. You can do it in first or second gear. I use first gear while keeping the clutch in the friction zone; this prevents the bike from jerking when applying the throttle. Remember to turn your head as much as possible and do not look down! Was this a waste of time? Well, I have thousands of miles under my belt, and I still thought the class was very informative. I definitely recommend this over the DMV course. Do you need this course to learn how to ride a motorcycle? The answer would be no, but that doesn't mean it is not beneficial. I got my permit, jumped on a Ninja 250cc, then upgraded to a 600cc supersport and I am doing just fine. Another example would be a young kid learning to ride dirt bikes without any formal training. Everyone is different. Learn at your own pace. One more thing...stay off highway 9 until you get some serious seat time. Improper cornering is the number one reason why people go down. I had a serious confidence issue after being in a bike accident several years ago. It took me a long time to decide I would get back on and try it again. I found TWST on the CMSP website (http://ca-msp.org/Default.aspx) TWST was at the top of the list as being the closest to me, so of course, the first thing I do is read the Yelp reviews. What really caught my eye was how many females had talked about their uncertainty and lack of confidence and how the instructors helped them work through it...and who the hell is this Derik character? They offer so many classes, you won't wait too long, I think I booked my class less than 2 weeks out. They promptly responded with a confirmation online and shortly after, I received the paperwork in the mail. Classroom: 5:45-11pm...holy cow that's a long time right? DERIK (I know you read this) was our classroom and range instructor. He was very engaging and got everyone (and a lot of the shy ones) to speak up and laugh. The videos are the same ones I watched the first time I took this course back in 2005, they're kinda outdated, but they're short and painless. The classroom portion can be described as traffic school with a kidergarten teacher (Derik). Range: There were only 5 people in our class, so we only had Derik as our coach for both days. I realize everyone learns differently, I'm the type of person a lesson needs to be beat into my skull...thanks to our coach, that's exactly what happened. I had such anxiety and nerves, but as soon as I got back on that little 250, and Derik "speaking loudly in my direction" I started feeling more confident in my abilities. The pace was set by the class. Since we were so small, we got a lot of one-on-one time and lots of seat-time. This is a great foundation course, and really confidence boosting. Derik gave me some words of wisdom/encouragement that really hit home with me. He says a lot of things that don't make a lot of sense too, but if you just go with it, it's fine. I was so sure I would never pass, I thought I could never get back on a bike again...BUT I DID!! And I'm so happy, and I know I made the right decision with this company to help me build my foundation in safe riding. Notes: -Afternoon classes can get hot, wear light clothing and bring lots of water. -You paid $250 for the class, you pay these people to teach and guide you...so follow directions! -Ladies, they have small bikes, I'm 5'3" and I was able to sit comfortably on the bike (feet flat on the ground) And there was another girl even shorter than me on a bike. -Ask questions, they're there to help you. Thank you TWST crew, esp Derik...you gave me what I needed to confidently get back on a bike and feel in control of the machine, and not the other way around. read more

You may think you have so many positive reviews, but on other sites you've still got plenty of negative comments. Your stupid super low refund was total bullshit! You guys should be smart enough to know that most beginners cannot learn on uphill/downhill settings. You should stick to flatlands like Mission College, which I know you guys have classes there too and I've practiced there in my own bike before I took the class. You should be considerate of beginners and use common sense that there might be people who can't handle that location. You should also note on the courses locations the state of the land so customers can decide if they can handle it or not. You should anticipate the needs of beginners. read more

Took the basic MTC course at Mission College. Both classroom and range sessions are paramount to staying safe on your motorcycle and I completely recommend it over the DMV driving test. It was comprised of two classes and two range sessions (where you actually ride) that were approximately 4 hours long. Lots of info presented to you and all the range exercises are straight forward and demonstrated prior to participation. The written test is similar to the DMV's and pretty easy to pass. The riding evaluation, however, is more challenging and to my surprise, not everyone passed. For my group, the ones that didn't pass ran over cones, were visually uncomfortable at handling the motorcycles and just all around unsafe to be allowed on the street. Derik and Ty were awesome and patient. They're great instructors who really make sure you don't build bad riding habits like covering the front brake. 5/5 Stars. read more

I took the rider course in Mission college. I've been riding in India for 10 years so I know how to handle a motorcycle. I took the course just to get used to the style of riding in the US. I recommend this for anyone who is a first time rider in the US (even if you are expert in some other country). read more
