After…read moreRay Ban cancelled my online order for the Meta Ray Ban Wayfarers due to my high prescription, they recommended me to go to one of the nearest Lenscrafters locations; As I said in my review for Lenscrafters in Southpoint Mall, they said that they're not able to sell Wayfarers with my high prescription. I also called the Lenscrafters in Cary, but same issue. So, I searched for an eyeglass shop close to me online, hoping to find one who can actually do it. So, I called the Durham Eyeglass Company, and the person over the phone asked for my prescription details, and after I told him the numbers, he said that they could do it but that I would need to get the Meta Ray Ban frames from somewhere else. I ordered the Meta Ray Ban Wayfarers with the sunstone colored frames on Amazon with non-prescription lenses, and a day after I received it, I went to Durham Eyeglass Company to drop off my Wayfarers for them to add prescription lenses. After a 30-minute drive, I reached the Durham Eyeglass Company, which is located in a suite in North Durham. When I entered, I was fascinated to see the various eyeglasses on display. Met Matthew there and he examined my new Ray Bans as he wrote my prescription details on a card. We had a friendly conversation about hobbies and careers. He also told me that he designs his own frames, and when I asked him the name of his brand of frames, he said it's "Bull City Eyewear", a name cleary inspired by the city of Durham. He explained my options for the transition lenses well, and said that it could be done in 1 to 2 days. I went went with the gray transitions, and he asked another employee to call the supplier of the lenses to ask for availability. He said that they're able to have the lens delivered the next day. I was happy to know that I would finally get Wayfarers with my high prescription. When I told Matthew about how the people at Lenscrafters in Southpoint Mall told me that they couldn't put the lenses I need, he told me that they just didn't want to do the harder kind of work that Durham Eyeglass is willing to do, and that they were able to craft lenses with higher prescription than mine. After confirming the kind of lenses I wanted, Matt asked if I wanted to pay half or full now, I went ahead paid in full. The price for my gray transition lenses with anti-glare seemed reasonable. It was close to the price of the Ray Ban frames but significantly less than what I would have paid if Ray Ban did not cancel my order. I left the frames there that day, and Matt said that they will call me once my new glasses are ready in 1 to 2 days. A couple days later, I woke up around 11:30 AM, and saw on my phone that I got a missed call from Durham Eyeglass Company at around 9AM. I called back and another employee told me that my Wayfarers were ready for me to pick up. I drove there again but this time, it was with my girl, and when we entered, Matthew was there to show the new prescription lenses in my Wayfarers. He also handed back the non-prescription lenses. Matt went on to show me how the lenses transition to gray; not sure what he did exactly but it was like magic. Durham Eyeglass Company is the most professional eyeglass shop I've ever been to, and Matthew is a professional master lens crafter who can craft lenses that Lenscrafters and Rayban can't do. I was one of those people who waited until the last minute to take advantage of their vision…read moreinsurance benefits that were expiring soon... I had been meaning to go to the eye doctor's and get new glasses or contacts (if I didn't need new glasses since my insurance only pays for one or the other in a 12-month period). In the past, I've always gone to the places at Walmart or wholesale stores like BJ's/Costco. Now that I'm a fully functioning adult, I decided to do more research and choose a local practice. It was honestly hard to pick a local eye doctor, since there are many reputable ones in the area. It was ultimately between Rosenstein and one other for me, and I arbitrarily picked Rosenstein because it was literally 5 minutes down the road! They have an online booking system called PatientReach, so I didn't even have to call to make an appointment. When you make an appointment through PatientReach, you can include a comment, and I noted that I'd like to get a regular eye exam done, and potentially a contacts exam done if my vision is stable (enough) since last time, and there is no need for me to get new glasses. I made an appointment mid-November, and couldn't get a spot in until the second week of December (do not procrastinate like me if this would stress you out!). My appointment was with Dr. Gretz. Before seeing her, I got a few "tests" done really quickly by a staff member. Then my actual eye exam was performed by Dr. Grezt, who was pleasant and listened to my concerns. I did explain that I'm interested in getting contacts but only if I do not need to get new glasses. My vision was stable enough, and I did get the contacts exam done as well. She brought me to the optical department where Austin walked me through the process of getting contacts (should I choose to do so). Austin explained that I'd have to come back for a training session where I would have to put in and take out contacts three times. We also reviewed my insurance benefits, and I was told what my out-of-pocket expenses would be ($10 copy for eye exam, $60 copy for contacts exam + training, and up to $300 coverage for contacts). Optical department was more flexible in scheduling, and I was able to come back the same week for training (which was harder than I thought). I had to go back a second time to finish my "training." Then I was given a few different trial sets to use for the next week or so, before I met with Dr. Gretz again to finalize my contacts prescription and order new contacts. When I met with Dr. Gretz, I complained of the contacts drying out my eyes, and she gave me even more contacts to try. This put me back a little bit in terms of ordering, but I appreciated having 5+ contacts to try (I have astigmatism + dry eyes so this was basically me being extra). Since it was close to the end of the year, I called to finalize my order and made a payment over the phone. Once your contacts (or glasses I assume) are ready, you get an email notification, and you can pick them up any time during their normal business hours. Thank you for reading my novel.
