The food was superb. Ordered turkey wings, yams, and mac n cheese. All of the above was so delightful. Turkey wings were well seasoned, juicy, and not salty. The yams had the perfect amount of sweetness. The Mac n cheese was also seasoned, not salty, and very flavorful. Don't go there looking for anything but some damn good food. Babyyy Angie has my business whenever! I pulled up thinking I was going in to order, but was quickly handed a menu at the door and asked to return to my car - COVID guidelines that I am not mad at! He explained that items marked with a start were out for the day so while cabbage was my preference, I went with greens instead. The food came out quick and smelled amazing, I was so anxious to get home and dig in! The price was bomb, only $10 for all of this food!! And the man who took my order made sure to provide me with a loyalty card - after 10 punches you get a free meal! My only critique is the greens. They were cut super fine which made them a bit mushy. The flavor was amazing, but didn't love the texture. I described my experience to a friend as a black family fish fry with all the right people in the kitchen! They are taking call in orders. Went here today for lunch got flounder, mac n cheese, and cabbage. Mac and cheese is an artform and this tastes as good as my grandmas! The flounder wasn't fishy at all fried perfectly. The cabbage was good but the other 2 items definitely surpass it. My daughter got the ribs and they are super yummy, she hasn't reached to check on her phone once since she started eating and that's some late kinda Christmas miracle. I came in one morning for breakfast to meet a client. The meal was good; but the place had a stinch smell of spoiled water. I didn't see a health code posted either. The coffee was really bad! I even left samples of my gourmet coffee to have her serve to customers to try out as a new product to the menu. She didn't!! As good as the food was--I won't return. Between the smell of spoiled water and not listening to customers wanting to help you improve on your menu items...I prefer not to eat here. Okay so I'm mad about this, two days ago I ordered a vegetable plate with my pick up time being 2pm. I get there and they are out of the only vegetable I ordered. Just about 45mins ago I call to place my order so I could pick it up at 2pm being somethings are not yet finished cooking, so I call to place my order and put on hold where no one comes back to the phone and on top of that the phone has been taken off the hook. I know doesn't belong to one person just spenders however I feel this is total disrespect when I have to drive from out of town to get this food just to sit there parking lot to wait for it to finish cooking when I could be handling business until that time. The Mac and cheese is great as well as there collard greens and cabbage. I have ordered there Pork chops before to not be cooked hard and they do have great skin on them but couldn't bite it being cooked well done which again it wasn't ordered that way. Went for lunch today. Restaurant empty except for 3 people at counter. Was told to wear a mask. Explained I could not due to basil cell carcinoma (cancer) on my face and mask could infect the area. This is the best soul/southern style food in Charlotte. I've lived in the Queen City for over 14 years and chowed down at all of the soul food establishments that Charlotte has to offer. This one is by far the best. The food is always fresh. The fried fish, shrimp, and chicken are always hand-breaded and amazing. All meals are the same price and come with two sides, choice of bread, and a drink. You can eat like a king for under $8.00 which in Charlotte is a fantastic feat unto itself. The fried shrimp is my favorite as you get seven or eight large pieces of shrimp. My favorite sides are the homemade mac and cheese and the corn. I'm not sure what they do to the corn, but it's amazing. I also enjoyed their cornbread the first few times I ate there and then one day got a biscuit by accident. I will order the biscuit from now on. They're bigger and taste better than Bojangles! The service is always fast, friendly, and second to none. After like my fourth or fifth time ordering food from them the lady who always takes my order recognized my voice on the phone and now calls me by name when I call. It's tiny inside and probably only seats about 25 but more than five minutes in there and you feel like you're inside your mama's kitchen. I just ate there today and the food was AMAZING. I love soul food and this blows La'wans (which I still love) out of the water. The yeast rolls were not the crappy grocery store rejects a lot of places give you, they were hot, fresh, and buttered. My chicken was perfectly crispy and the okra tasted like it didn't come out of a bag from the freezer section. The creamed corn was great too! The food here is realllly good. Reminds me of the old Coffee Cup(the orginal, when the grandma still worked there). Now that being said..understand this is a "hood" place.
