There was one other car in the parking lot. It took 20 minutes to order as there were several to go orders. We were told 10-15 minutes. We waited for 25 minutes to get our food. My burger was cool. I really like this cute, little burger spot. My son and I were in the area picking strawberries and went to Hot Mess after for some lunch. Everything was made fresh and served hot. Recommend: Not impressed. The wait to order was incredibly lengthy, food was barely mediocre - at best. Ordered nearly $100.00 of food and from the entire family partaking in the food, no one was impressed. All this being said, it's an independent business located and isolated on a lonely side of the road, with one intersection way out in Stanfield, NC. Not only is it cute as button, but whoever thought of converting a shipping container into a fry shack, and then plopping it nearly nowhere was just plain genius. I love it. Make sure to select the "no cheese" option on the single burger if you don't want cheese. I made the mistake of clicking "plain," assuming that meant no toppings, but they still added cheese. I paid $12 and when I asked for it to be remade, they refused several times. I had to explain that I'm lactose intolerant and can't eat cheese before they finally agreed to fix it. It was exciting when this place opened a few years ago because there aren't enough restaurants around here besides fast food. Of course, Hot Mess is also fast food, but was a little better since they made it while you waited. At first they were decent burgers. Beautiful day in Charlotte so I ventured out to Hot Mess Burgers. This place is WELL off the beaten path. Cattle graze across the street and classic cars pass by on 601 out for a Sunday drive in the countryside. From the picture you can see that it is a steel shipping crate, and that just adds to the coolness of this place (that and Dean Martin blaring from the speakers). The double burger was good. The onion rings were great! Sprinkled in Parmesan cheese it gave them kind of a mozzarella stick vibe, and I was good with that. Service was friendly and helpful for this first time customer. I like to ask questions about what they like on the menu, as long as I'm not holding up a line. That is how I settled on the onion rings. I absolutely will be back, with the family and dog in tow. First time I tried this place after passing it several times. when I ordered I was told it would be 20 mins. I said no problem. it was busy at the time. but in my opinion not overly busy where it should be taking that long but I figured I can overlook the wait if the food is worth it. after about 45 mins I went to the window and asked how much longer. The person, who I believe is the owner, rudely asked what my name was and I told her. She then said, again rudely, "it will be up very soon and I'm sure you were told there would be a wait when you ordered" to which I replied "I was told 20 mins. its been 45" at which point she got visibly upset and commented "I'm cooking as fast as I can". and shuts the window and walks away. after about 10 more mins she tells me my order is ready. still with a pissy attitude. I didn't care though I was just glad to get my food and get out of there. I get back to my car and decide to check my order. it was not right. it was missing an order of onion rings. I go back and politely tell her that I am missing onion rings. she says you must have taken the wrong order! lol really? you gave it to me and it has my name on the receipt. after explaining again she realizes she was wrong and angrily throws rings in my bag, walks over to the register, pulls out a 10 bill, slams the register shut and proceeds to put the dirty bill in my bag of food. I told her I didn't want any money back she said "I want to" and slammed the window shut. as for the food, the fries were dry and had absolutely no flavor. they say they use salt and parmesan. maybe they do but I tasted nothing, literally nothing. F grade on the fries. Onion rings overcooked and also lacked any sort of flavor. F grade on those as well. Burger was very good. I enjoyed it .
