Family dinner ! Server not knowledgeable of menu! Beautiful ceiling display of hanging variety of colorful wagasa ( Japanese umbrella) and painted wall of geishas in their striking kimonos!! I asked if they had soft shell crab he said no but upon reading their sushi rolls there it is ... a softshell crab roll !!!! Baked Mussels pictured on the menu was not as appealing as served . Mussels were bland and tough! Grandkids already had eaten some before I could take a good picture of it! Ordered the Lobster Roll which battered lobster were stale to munch! The shrimp tempuras were delish !!!

Absolutely one of my favorite sushi spots. Come here pretty much every other week. We are never disappointed. The atmosphere is nice, the staff is so kind and ALWAYS on top of it. I think about trying somewhere new but always decide against it because it's guaranteed to hit everytime!

After catching my friend's son's Little League baseball game, a group of nine of us--full of post-game energy and big appetites--decided to grab dinner at 21 Sushi House in Calimesa. Three of us went for the AYCE option, while the rest stuck to à la carte. To my surprise, the restaurant had no problem letting us mix and match, which is pretty rare. Most sushi spots won't allow partial-party AYCE out of concern for food sharing, and honestly, I don't blame them. But it was refreshing to see a place that actually trusts its customers. Huge respect for that. This isn't a trendy, high-end sushi lounge, but it nails the vibe of a solid, down-to-earth American sushi joint. I went with sashimi, albacore tuna, red tuna, and salmon; and what really stood out was the size of the cuts. These weren't dainty little slices; each piece was massive, easily two to three times the size of what you'd get at a traditional Japanese place. And no, that wasn't a bad thing. It was honestly hilarious how big they were, but in the best way. It made the whole experience feel generous and fun, and it gave me a glimpse into the restaurant's personality: they're here to feed you well and make sure you leave full and happy. I probably won't have the chance to return anytime soon since I'm not local, but if I'm ever in the area again, I'd love to go back and try their AYCE for myself. If you live nearby, you're lucky. 21 Sushi House is the kind of place you'll want in your regular rotation. Generous portions, a laid-back vibe, and a team that trusts its guests? That's worth supporting.

I discovered this restaurant a couple of years ago, and it has become my go-to spot for all-you-can-eat sushi. It's usually packed during lunch and dinner rushes. However, if you time your arrival right when they open in the morning or after the lunch rush, you might find no wait at all. I recently tried their new location in Yucaipa and was quite disappointed, so I had to return to my comfort spot at the Calimesa location. This place consistently proves that the original location is always better; not only is the food higher quality, but the service is also noticeably better. My dad and I decided to order à la carte for once since we weren't extremely hungry, but usually, the all-you-can-eat option is about $35 per person. Personally, I've been enjoying their new menu items, such as the TNT and SOS rolls, both because they are deep-fried in tempura batter and because the flavors are well-balanced. We also ordered the American Dream, a mix between a California roll and a Dragon roll, which is both my dad's favorite, and the 9-piece assorted sashimi. All the rolls were delicious, and the portions were worth the price; the sashimi cuts were large and fresh. I always enjoy my visits to this restaurant and will continue to come back.

This was my second time visiting the 21 sushi house in Calimesa. I was extremely disappointed and not impressed. I brought two people having different expectations and was honestly embarrassed by our experience, as I really chatted the place up as a great sushi spot. We did the AYCE menu. It took approximately 1 hour to receive our first round of sushi. By the time we put in our second round, they warned us they would be closing in an hour. I've never ever spent so much time at a sushi restaurant in my life. We had to get up every time we needed something: chopsticks, napkins, more soy sauce, etc. I honestly felt for them because I think there is extreme miscommunication among the kitchen and server team but my experience was so so so ridiculous. People who were in our seating section were receiving their rounds timely and much sooner before us. Handfuls of groups left the restaurant within our time there. They didn't have any small plates and offered miso soup bowls as small plates. The sushi came out with a tremendous amount of rice. The slices of yellowtail came out grossly cut and with bones. The miso soup had no seaweed in it. Generally, the quality of all of the fish was fine, just not the yellowtail. We ended up being able to do only 2 rounds out of 3 in a span of 2 hours due to the lack of timely service. I felt that our money was wasted. Would I return? Honestly, maybe, but not any time soon. My first experience was much better-- this was insane.

The Karaage Chicken was crispy and the dipping sauce for it make it chefs kiss. It was sweet, tangy, and had a little heat to it. I loved the crispiness of the gyoza dumplings but some people might feel they're too crispy. I had to get the Gyu set again. It comes with Filet Mignon Miso butter, Kalbi, and Shaved Ribeye. It also comes with Shishito Peppers and Mushrooms. You grill these items to your liking. That yuzu butter on those filet mignon medallions is fire. The meat is so tender and I suggest preparing it to medium rare. The kabli comes marinated and it gives it a nice sweet glaze after grilling. I like these with a little char on the edges. The shaved ribeye has no flavor but I like to grill it with a little bit of the dipping sauce poured on it. The service was amazing. Yvette was our waitress again and she's absolutely fabulous. I will always request her if she's on shift! She's tentative and on point with her level of service. The ambiance has an Asian contemporary feel. There's TVs with closed caption to watch, artwork on the walls, and during the day the natural lighting comes through nicely. They do offer a happy hour but we missed it. We were in the mood for sushi and didn't want to go far so we thought we would try this spot out…read more I'm so glad we did! To be honest it's in a part of town that I always forget about, so I'm glad it popped up first when I googled it! We got here for an early dinner around 545pm on a Saturday night. There was one other table occupied, and another came in as we were getting our food. The restaurant was a lot bigger than I expected it to be. It was very clean, and all of the booths, tables, and chairs looked like they were in fairly new condition. The owner greeted us as we walked in, waited a few minutes and took our drink order. Before bringing out our drinks she brought over complimentary miso soup and my little loved it! We ordered 2 rainbow rolls and a lobster roll. I always try my go to rolls when trying our a new place, and if I like it, I'll get more daring with the menu! We had enough time to enjoy our soup and talk a little before our rolls came out. It didn't seem rushed, and we were ready to eat! Everything was delicious! The fish on the rainbow roll was fresh and had great flavor and consistency. We loved them! The lobster roll was so good! The sauce drizzled over had a little kick to it, but it wasn't too much at all. The roll wasn't too big, and had a great amount of topping on it. Again, we loved it! The table next to us ordered the garlic edamame and it smelled absolutely divine! I really regret not ordering it as well! Definitely next time!! The prices were pretty consistent with other sushi restaurants, if not a little cheaper. I honestly couldn't believe at 6pm on a Saturday night that it wasn't more packed. I don't know if it's the area, or what because it certainly isn't the food or service. I really hope this spot does well and stays around for a long time. It is so nice to have a great sushi restaurant 8 minutes from home! I can't wait to come back!

But the food is just painfully subpar. -Tempura Shrimp was limp. -The egg rolls were good. Nice and crunchy. -The Yakisoba tasted like it was pre-made/store bought and then microwaved. -My spicy chicken teriyaki bowl had the same problem as the Yakisoba but the stuff I get at the Sushi Bar at Stater Brothers is FAR better. We usually like going to Darumaya in Banning, but I'm not a Sushi guy and they recently got rid of their rice dishes, the one thing of theirs I really liked eating. But like I said, the lady is SO nice, it just breaks my heart to say the food isn't great. :/

We ordered the Golden Crispy, the Hawaiian and the Sweetheart rolls. They were all delicious! The service was horrible at first. The first girl never cracked a smile with us or anyone else. She was definitely in the wrong business! I asked if I order from her or the sushi bar, since we were seated at the bar. She said either but when I tried to order from the bar, he told me to order from one of the two girls. I ordered from the second one b/c she, at least, had some personality. She was more pleasant to deal with. However, neither should have been in a forward-facing customer service position. Strangely, hard to tell who oversees the servers but the only other staff present were the sushi chefs and they seemed oblivious to the lowsy service. IMO customer service is almost as important and the food quality, hence 3 stars. This was on a Thursday night and there was no seating, only sushi bar. They are obviously popular since the food is great, but you have to be willing to put up with the service. Will definitely be back, but maybe best to order for pickup and dine at home.

So, of course, I look on Yelp and came across Nko Niko sushi, which is regarded as one of the best sushi spots in Redlands. I actually went as far as double checking on reddit and the votes were definitely in! This place seemed legit so I had to try it. It's located in a shopping plaza so there is plenty of parking. There are several restaurants in the area, while Niko Niko is tucked away near the water fountains out front. As I arrived, they quickly sat me at the bar area and my typical rainbow roll and I tried their snow cone roll. The rolls were so good and the fish was fresh! I loved the sweet sauce that was added to the snow cone roll. After about 20 mins, the chef, who's name is Yaser, started asking me what my favorite fish is and why I like it. I told him Albacore and he instantly makes me some concoction with ponzu sauce which was fire. He then asked me if I like salmon and I told him yes and he makes me a seared salmon roll with orange sauce and pepper. By this time I'm stuffed but enjoying this experience. He made going to a sushi restaurant interesting again like when I first tried sushi. We start talking about Japan and he ask me if I ever had salmon skin. I tell him absolutely not and that when I bake salmon I usually take the skin off. He then tells me that I HAVE to try a salmon skin handroll so I figured I should just go with it. My mind was blown!! I actually like salmon skin lol. It was so good! Overall, I had an amazing experience at Niko Niko and Chef Yaser. I left him a generous tip for the experience and he changed the way I will forever dine at a sushi bar now. I sensed something exciting was going to happen -- but relying entirely on word of mouth. Flash-forward to early 2026, where readers of the local weekly paper named this the Best Sushi of Redlands. I was so excited, and as my visit last week demonstrates -- things have only improved. KYO SUSHI was packed at 5PM on a Tuesday. Not only slammed, but standing room only. I don't know what happened but I'm so happy for them. Two subtle changes have happened and I'm all for them. A LOCAL NEWS channel sharing dreadful stories on the TV has been swapped for hi-def reels of lovely Asian spots, making our escape from the crazy world we live in complete. As an extra touch, we are now treated to soothing jazz, which helps in a room with so many happy customers. A special shout out to Sia, who greets regulars like family and will help you get exactly what you need. Hi to Wendy and the new young lady, all keeping a close eye on customer happiness. I believe KYO is on the brink of having outgrown this location, but a lease is likely keeping them there for a while. It's a shame they can't move next door into the old Von's location -- lol -- because what a place that would be. Enough room in their to farm the fish. Pro Tip -- try the Megan Fox roll!

The roll presentation was very good, and visually the food looked great. The plates came out clean, colorful, and nicely arranged. Flavor-wise though, the rolls were fairly bland. The house mayo tasted like regular mayo, which isn't necessarily bad, but I guess I was expecting something with a little more going on, maybe closer to a spicy mayo or some kind of signature sauce. We also ordered a Philly roll, but were brought the Philly "Pro" instead. The Pro is deep fried, which I wasn't expecting, and I took a bite without realizing how hot it was and almost burned my mouth. I did mention that "Philly roll" and "Philly Pro" are close enough in name that I could see wrong orders happening pretty easily. Service was direct and decent. Nothing bad, just more to-the-point than warm or memorable. I'd probably give this place another shot, because it seemed like we may have gotten caught in a rush all at once. Not terrible by any means, and the presentation was definitely a strong point, but it wasn't quite the standout experience I was expecting.

We always look forward to seeing Clarissa because she is seriously the sweetest! She's attentive, friendly, remembers us, and always makes us feel taken care of. We usually stick to our go-to Cajun Albacore (which is AMAZING every single time), but this visit Clarissa recommended trying the Jade Roll... and WOW. Soooo good!! We probably wouldn't have ordered it on our own and now it might be a new favorite. Thank you for always giving us such a great experience. Highly recommend if you're looking for great sushi, great service, and a place you can enjoy with family!

We went all in and tried the omakase, and while it's definitely on the expensive side, it was worth every penny. The chef hand selects each dish, and every course felt intentional, unique, and honestly like its own experience. The atmosphere is really cool and a little different from your typical sushi spot. You head down a spiral staircase into the restaurant, which sets the tone right away, and there's also an elevator for wheelchair accessibility which is great to see. Once you're inside, it has a thoughtful, intimate feel that fits perfectly with the style of dining. Service was excellent from start to finish, and the fish was incredibly fresh and high quality. The dishes were creative and unlike anything else I've had locally. This is easily a 5 star experience, and there's nothing else around here quite like their omakase. Definitely worth trying if you're looking for something special.

The dine-in location is kinda speakeasy-esque, located down a spiral staircase and behind the sliding door mural. There is also a much more visible touchpad ordering system for orders to-go. Interestingly, the to-go menu is more expansive and includes rolls, whereas dining in does not. The dine-in seating is also all counter seating, wrapped around in a U configuration where you can see the food prepared. My friend ordered tuna sashimi and miso soup while I got scallop and salmon skin cut rolls. For a weekday evening, there was a steady stream of customers stopping by to pick up orders, and a few others dining in. The staff were nice and it was neat seeing everything prepared right in front of us. I also enjoyed seeing the omakase that the couple next to us had ordered. The space feels pretty underground (because it is), with small windows coverings that I think lend to the ambience. It is a bit tricky to find because it appears closed from the outside, so maybe better signage to slide the door open would be helpful. I'd be interested to try the special rolls that are to-go only. They looked amazing as they were being packed!
